theoretical question:

say there's this game. the game has been out for several years, and has established a reputation as a great speedgame. there's a bunch of cool tricks, sequence breaks, optimization, and little to no cutscenes or RNG. the run lasts about an hour or so, and at the several times it's been at marathons, it's had enormous positive reception. several of the top runners are some of the best known in the community.

now, imagine if someone found a way to beat the game in 15 minutes. but, to set up said trick, you had to play the game virtually natural route up to a certain point with little to no other glitches, including several cutscenes. the early game is widely regarded by most people who play the game as incredibly boring, and love the fact the speedrun skips it, but the speedrun would now have it but little else. worse, once you get 15 minutes in, you have to actually do the trick, which not only has a 1/10 chance to even be possible, but is frame perfect with no useful audio or visual cue, and leads you directly to the credit. there's no rhyme or reason to how the trick works; you're on one end of it, some inexplicable shit happens, and the credits are rolling. it also turns the credits music into ear-rape, and doesn't do much better to the credit visuals.

Really resets should never have been allowed in the first place. They're for people who are too lazy to make a segmented run and have too little skill too make a single-segment run.

The only thing that could possibly make it seem segmented is a save warp after link becomes adult. In Pokey's run this is instead a reverse DoT skip. I was generous and said that save warping saved 20 seconds there.

Iateyourpie, I know you are reading this. There is a reason why people give you a hard time. That reason is because you try to justify your ideas as good for the community when in reality all your ideas are money driven and toxic for the hobby as a whole. People are genuinely angry towards you because it seems your goal is to not play games fast but to make as much money off the community as possible. Stop being a fucking degenerate and just play your games. Stop forcing showcase races, sub nights, audio notifications, "pie family" gimmicks, collective mumble talks, etc.

You tweet about not wanting to please everyone anymore. There is a difference between not pleasing everyone and not pleasing anyone. If you want to be taken seriously you should stop trying to obviously force gimmicks for personal benefit and openly mock about how much of a sellout you are. You may think all those papa john's sponsorship jokes are funny, but people are actually laughing at you because of how much of a money hungry person you are. You can still change your reputation, but it starts at just playing your games.

Try a few weeks of no webcam, no mic, no gimmicks and see if true speedrunning is for you. If you can handle that then there is hope for you after all.
