Been wrapped up in Xcom 2 expansion and the new Gwent patch. Mostly Xcom though, only played 3 games for my daily on Gwent and then fucked off to go shoot more aliens. Unfortunately that also means I didn't play nearly enough to get a good handle on if the new patch is any good or not. It's certainly different at least. I threw together a mulligan squirrel deck and a meme Temeria deck (Because that's what matters) and won every game with them.

The vrihedd officers or brigade or whatever (The dudes that used to get buffed every time you mulliganned something) are really fucking iffy and I'll probably cut them next time I refine the deck. If they buffed all elves in your hand and deck they'd be good. Since they only buff elves that are in play they sort of suck. The other elf mulligan cavalry dudes however are really fucking strong, the ones that let you mulligan a card and then boost based on the power of the card you draw. Shit is nuts. The new Francesca is really powerful too since she can tutor any card she wants out of the deck and boosts it if it's a unit. New Eleyas is probably playable, especially with the new Francesca, but he's nothing super amazing and is kind of a smaller silver Ciri: Dash. Still not entirely sure how I feel about the new Saskia. Probably good. I may cut the blue mountain commandos I put in the deck for additional thinning and elf synergy but I'm not sure.

I just fought Letho in TW2. Aard was more useful than I remembered. Fun fight, wish it was longer. Geralt vs. Olgierd is still better as it is.

For the first time ever I encountered a weird glitch. Roche spawned there before I even talked to Letho. He rushed out and started hacking at Iorveth while I escorted him to the ruins. He couldn't do any damage but it was very amusing.

I don't know. Let's say Radovid would enter Novigrad first and take it over like he does anyway and then Emhyr would start a siege of the city. Geralt would be caught in the city at the time. So maybe Radovid would have a task for him to sneak out and sabotage Nilfs in some way, or Dijkstra would offer something similar to sabotage both. Then you''d meet Emhyr and he's have his own offer. Which is a shame. In the beginning it's said that Novigrad has the power to tip the scales of war and that both Rad and Emhyr want it. This is a common mistake. The hardcore fanbase is always the only one that cares. The other people buy what they're told. They'd not have noticed if they catered to the core fans any more than they noticed them abandoning the core fans. In the short term it works out the same but the hardcore fans are the ones that still talk about the games years later and are the main generators of word of mouth. You can abandon your original fanbase and do well after you're established...for awhile. But the inertia doesn't last forever. Just ask Bioware.

I don't think it's that simple. There is a big difference in adding some random points of interest with generic content and doing major changes to the main story. The later requires far more man power, resources and time. Writers, animators, voice actors, quest designers and so on...The question marks could be added for cheap and by smaller number of people that wouldn't necesserally be needed for the main story anyway.

The POIs were only one of their latest panic mode attempts to fill in the open world. There were way more shitty side quests and monster hunts than that, all because of the size of the world. Sacrificing some of it for the main story resource wise could have worked.

I don't think this is true. The game is very well accepted and praised even among the hardcore fans despite most of them having a few complaints ranging from the Hunt portrayal, better politics, lack of TW2 consequences, more Yen/Ciri time, more Triss, Iorveth...

Those disappointments weren't enough to ruin the general experience for most, myself included. I had big expectations for TW2 consequences and that was one of my biggest disappointments. Trying to make the game standalone hurt the trilogy coherence. Sure, I hoped to see Iorveth, Saskia, Roche, Henselt...but I can't lie, I still enjoy the game without it.

After release, when the time for complaints was right and when there was still a chance for changes, most people didn't express their concerns loud enough. Sure, people complained about those issues but not enough of them did and not in the right way imo. The only thing they addressed was Triss due to the sheer power of persistent waifu autism we threw at them. If other issues were advocated for that passionately, maybe they would add an EE. But the reality is, not enough people care and for most the game is a masterpiece as is.

Regis and Anna were good, it looks nice and has some decent amount of side content. I enjoyed it all things considered but it's not CDPR's best work.

For Now or Never, help Triss with her party quest and then help her save the mages. After that quest Dijkstra will approach you and ask for your help in killing Radovid. He'll give you a quest called A Deadly Plot in which you'll find Thaler. Do this before Isle of Mists.

Later when you go to free Philippa with Triss, don't break Dijkstra's leg and talk to him instead. Hell invite you to participate in the murder of Radovid and that's Reason of State quest.

So, I'm playing through the first game, and I'm on Chapter III, and I feel like a big piece of shit. I just did the Bank Robbery quest, and I helped the Scoia'tael escape in spite of supporting Siegfried up until that point. I wanted to negotiate, as I felt slaughtering them all was a bad idea that would ease tensions, which led to helping them escape.

How badly have I fucked everything up forever?

I also nearly fucked up the investigation in the second chapter, only salvaging it by having to reload an old save due to fucking myself into a spot where I couldn't figure out how to proceed.

Sadly that's the normal experience on transitioniong from TW1 to TW2. TW2 is totally different and a much harder game on top of it. In addition the difficulty curve is fucked so the early game is by far the hardest part.

What you need to get used to is that group style is absolutely gone. if Geralt is surrounded he is dead. You must, absolutely MUST, use every tool in your arsenal to survive early on, and play cautiously with positioning. You have all signs, bombs, throwing daggers, potions and traps. use them all, always. And remember, despite the inspiration, this is not Dark Souls. Riposteing is hard and rolls have barely any invincibility frames.

Eventually, it will simply click and everything will work out. Usually this is sometime near the end of Act 1 or beginning of Act 2. Just stick with it and come back if you're having trouble with a specific enemy.

Also remember that you haven't beaten TW2 unless you've finished it twice. Good luck, have fun with the best game in the series.

Combat is uneven in the second game. It's hard in the beginning but becomes a cakewalk later. Invest in that skill that prevents them from giving you 200% damage from behind, take your time getting used to the controls and soon enough you'll be cutting through hordes of enemies with no issues. TW2 was the game that made me fall in love with her. She was just shady enough, but with some tender moments too. I loved her explanation of the mutations and genetics, or the way she laughs at Geralt for the tattoo, her jokes about Roche's soldiers and her face when Geralt gives her the rose. Translating colors between languages that aren't closely related can be weird. I think the Brownish-red that was meant by the Polish word got turned into Reddish-brown and then yet again into Brown in the English translations.

A couple years ago I'd have told you that it'll be ok if she's the main character they don't have to rely on selling her relationship as daughteru to the player and have more time to flesh her our. So she'd be fine. But a couple years ago I thought CDPR had everything under control and was just waiting for EE to fix everything.

A shame, you could make some fun game mechanics out of a character like her but she'll probably just be Commander Shepard if they do a Ciri game.

The presentation is a huge step back in some ways but it is a charming game with some great atmosphere. Unlike the other two, it's not an ARPG, even though it pretends to be. So be aware of that.
