Pursuer doesn't really feel like a casual filter to me. A boss lots of shitters tend to struggle with is the Ruin Sentinels imo. Pursuer's not that hard, but some of his attacks are a lot easier to dodge than others, making him a little rng dependent, and if you went in blind and didn't start leveling ADP early, dodging him is really difficult.
But I'd say the true shitter filter isn't a boss, but a level : No Man's Wharf.

I think the biggest casual filter is Gascoigne. Most of the Bloodborne bosses are easier than he is and he teaches new players on how Bloodborne works but if people don't learn they will just get killed over and over. Another casual filter would be Ludwig and he stands as the price of admission into the DLC.

What do you guys think the parry dagger should be like?

I wouldn't mind if it had stupidly long active parry frames (after the usual startup), making it easy to parry with but also easily punishable.

Alternatively super short frames but slightly earlier than anything else.

Dark souls 3 scrub here. Does spear and halberd really have long range? From what I experienced, I don't really feel much difference between a straight sword and a spear on the early stages.

Depends on the specific spear and halberd, a lot of early spears like the basic spear and partizan don't have as much range over straight swords if any but there are definitely longer ones as you go through the game. The main benefits of spears is being pure thrust damage which benefits from counters and Leo Ring more when you get that and halberds tend to have higher AR and hyperarmor on 2HR1s and R2s.

Enemy chain combos, multiple-enemy targeting, proper dual wielding, AoE attacks for melee users.

Basically everything you should expect out of a hack and slash.

Nier Automata is actually a pretty good example, where while you attack with melee on a single enemy you are constantly shooting spells in the background to keep surounding enemies away, combos chain from one enemy to the next automatically, your melee movesets always include a spin or wide sweeping attack, even for spears, and if you customize it right you restore your health by killing or damaging enemies so there's no need to disengage and heal when surrounded.

The L1s need to be stab/slash combos, so that you can actually use it offensively instead of holding it up in front of your face like a retard. Then give the L2s small shield parry frames (starts slightly earlier than medium shields and lasts longer) but you take more damage than when whiffing with a small shield (and like Caestus parries you lose your entire stamina bar if you whiff).

Cut content? No. Both DeS and DS1 had more content that was actually planned but never made it into the final version. DS3 seems like they didn't plan much and just stopped when they had sufficient levels strung together to make a game. Nothing in the game's structure really implies that there are actually missing areas, bosses, etc. like DeS's 6th archstone or the entirety of DS1's priscilla, quelaag, or lost izalith plotlines that have items, enemies, and areas within the game's code that are not actually used.

For pve? No. Any boss that's resistant to lightning is weak to dark and you could always do blessed infusion instead. Dark Blade is weaker than Darkmoon blade, but doesn't require any grinding and both use the same stats.

For PvP, it's worth it because more players level faith and intelligence. Darkmoon blade is maybe ~5% more damage than lightning balde because of it.

If you honestly don't care about the achievement or that 5% edge in damage, it's not worth it.

for the record, darkmoon blade is EXACTLY the same as lightning blade, except that it deals magic damage. Players tend to have low magic defense though because the only characters that level intelligence are pure sorcerors (sometimes melee characters will go 15 fth for blessed weapon and replenishment, but no one goes 15 int for frozen weapon after freeze was nerfed) so that's why it's better.

It's pretty much a boring bog-standard melee dex build. Right down to Havels+FAP+Elite knight set.

Elemental resistances aren't that important because you can just slap on a stoneplate ring for a specific boss, and anyone who is using elemental damage against you is either doing less than pure physical (such as chaos damage twinks) or is going pure sorceror and one shotting you so defense doesn't matter anyway.

For your first playthrough, ignore mugen or trying to plan ahead and optimize. Just play the game normally, use what feels good, don't stop at any specific level and try to experiment and figure things out on your own. The more you try to optimize the more boring the game will get.

That being said...

Like I said, it is fairly boring/standard. It will get you through the game, though you might want to upgrade to a heavier weapon for some of the later bosses, since the balder side sword's damage caps out pretty low.

It might be worth getting 16 intelligence so you can use great magic weapon and the oolacile catalyst, enchanting your sword for a relatively free 200 magic AR. This also opens up a lot of other intelligence options too, as there's little or no need to go beyond 16 int if you aren't specializing in a sorcerer, but huge benefits at 16.

Yes, to reach certain poise breakpoints having some heavy armor is good. In terms of defenses there is a noticeable gap between having rags and full Havels, but between medium armor and heavier stuff it's less noticeable. Absorption values past 25% scale down in terms of practical effectiveness anyway and having better innate defenses to things like Dark damage matter more in effect.

Some weapons have pretty good scaling when infused though, like LKS, Astora's, and I think even Corvian Scythe. For Lightning infusion, LKGS (if you can get your hands on one) gets upward of ~500 Lightning damage due to the innate damage already present.

Generally it depends on online activity, you may get lucky. SL65 can go down 15 levels and 10%, so you could still catch people in Smouldering Lake and Irithyll, as well as Pontiff's.
