I had a lot of fun as Bretonnia, especially my crusade against the Elves. It was tricky but doable and a challenge.

Vamps can be fun but it are also quite easy.

I personally don't enjoy Wood Elves on the Grand Campaign. The standalone one is better IMO. Staying in the forest and massacring PeePoos as they come in.

How does this kind of army compare to Brettonian armies in the lore?

I've had enough of SFO. It was nice at first, but endlessly regenning vamps, overpowered OC donut steel units, and the egoistic fucking around they do with the splash screen put me over the edge. It's radious for a new generation. Back to vanilla.

Thing is, even though they're "female", they're basically indistinguishable from the men. Except for the slaaneshi of course, but the rest, because of Chaos corruption and gifts from the gods, the women end up just as capable as the men, which most of the time means just huge muscled brutes. Like you wouldn't know the gender of a random armored Chaos warrior unless you looked in their pants, because they end up looking the same as "hulking brute human".

Yes, as one would expect, different god-blessed will look different, as slaaneshi tend to have exaggerated features of their gender.

Nope, the elf factions are all at the top for it. All three factions expect all of their adults to be trained as part of the militia. With High Elves typically the women don't go past being part of the militia, the Sisters of Averlorn are the only real fighting force that women join. Since Ulthuan is relatively safe, they only need to fight during invasions. Then you go a step up to Wood Elves, who need to constantly fight against enroaching Beastmen and Orcs, and so a lot of WE women stay and advance further in their armies. Then you get the Dark Elves, where everyone at all levels of society and the armies are expected to fight, and you have the massive Cult of Khaine and the Sorceresses on top of that. I don't know where you're getting that 70/30 stat from either for Chaos, the only real Chaos females have been Valkia, Justine from Blood and Darkness, and the Norsca Shieldmaidens, and Norsca far from being the majority of Chaos's forces.

So why are the victory conditions so damn hard for vampire counts? My empire campaign had it pretty simple: take over empire lands, kill the vampire counts, and whip Archaon's ass. But for vampire counts it's a shit show of having to slowly spread your corruption across the entire damn map.

After spending a hundred or so turns fucking around and conquering the filthy Bretons I decided to venture out only to find chaos warriors and/or beastmen had devastated the entire fucking rest of the central bowl area

Tilea appears to be the only surviving human faction I've run across and they're fighting with Grimgor's WAAAAAGH over that whole area

The lore. It's not apparent on the tabletop because of the GW equivalent of Charlemagnes, but in the setting the Chaos gods don't have any hang-ups about gender, and give out blessings like candy. Named/important characters aren't a good indicator of their faction at large.

Late game christanity vastly outpaces any other religion because they use dosh instead of food since after climate change you will be in dire need of food to keep regions from getting the -public order. You are right that Theaters are great early on to stabilize the empire. I usually do it by theme areas. So I stabilze Italias food/public order, Magna Graecia etc. Food+baths in every town and theaters in the city. Usually Africa is up next, since I send Honorius down to bring all of Africa to heel so I never have to worry about that area and its already well developed with plenty of slots to utilize. Hispania/Gaul are the worst, since they have few developement slots and have very angry populations. Illyria/Britannia is generally the next.

this, i delayed on the techs that removed legacy techs, just until i got at least top ranked libraries and top sanitation buildings in my core provinces.

i found that i was able to hold southern gaul, hispania, mauretania, but had trouble holding africa until i was finally able to stabilize public order.

a lot of shuffling legions around to keep public order good or crush rebellions.

Public order is outrageous on higher difficulties for the WRE. But I also wasn't destroying as many buildings as I should have since some provinces have some mighty shitty buildings like industry in the cities which cost 10 public order.

I am not sure what the balance is like for the WRE but the idea that they should only have access to t2 sanitation if they want to remain christian and want to improve their churches was such a shitty design but I really haven't played much of Attila since barbars weren't very appealing to me.

I generally raise two different kind of legions, one set of legions which are based around decreasing building costs and increasing public order alongside commanders with the ancillaries to boost it and use them to stabilize and kill off rebellions. Then I take two of the legios and have them turn into actual field battle machines. Works out pretty good, but the shuffling in the mid-late game gets really annoying quickly.

As vampire counts, focus on capturing Kislev and expanding north, or at least keeping two stacks there. Ive had Chaos show up, declare war on me when I only had one stack in Stirland and proceed to raze half of my cities in Sylvania before I could get Vlad and Isabella and other armies back from Tilea/Brettonia.

Ive arguably found late game much much harder for vamps than early.

About to start a SFO Chaos campaign, first time trying the game out modded, what do I need to know?

You can actually expand through force pretty fast. Your units early on are cheap and easily replaceable. You can also crush rebellions for extra xp on the side.

So after my first two campaigns (Dawrfs and Bretonnia) I have to say the pacing sucks as both.

Not really, every campaign I've played has felt like a long slog at the end, half the time because Chaos has fucked everything up so there's either no rival power that could possibly challenge you so its just a matter of time to sweep up the map and/or you have to recolonise a desolate wasteland.

No. The campaign map is the weakest point of TWW, and all TW games.

The AI is stupid as shit, with very little self preservation. Every war is identical with you defeating a single 20 stack then taking the majority of their settlements unopposed. The AI cant build mid or late game armies at all, 90% of your time will be spent against early game units. The AI cant multitask, so they will either camp all armies in one city or attack with all armies at one city.

Its why W2 has objectives now that you fight over rather than regions. Personally I think thats a cheap ass way to get around making proper AI but at the same time if it works it works and I would be happy with a TW game for the first time having an engaging campaign map.

Until then there is nothing you can do; every single race is a cake walk of snoozing on the campaign map whether its vanilla or modded with horrid pacing. You can try to make it harder by limiting yourself (only use generic lords, 10 stack max armies, themed armies, ect) but ultimately you will always have a shit time on the campaign.

But that doesnt fix the core issue, its still entirely RNG that the AI builds a military building + supporting structure to recruit mid/late game units. The AI needs to get a stronger focus on teching up that scales with difficulty. On legendary the AI should get late game units within the first 50 turns.
