A game about nothing

Last thread : >>183298737

>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Rimworld, Age of Decadence, VA-11 HALL-A, Subnautica, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, ((Grimoire)), Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

You cant make a shit party since you will get plenty of pre-built bros, and can recruit "non-story" pre built characters if you need something your party lacks.
>>
>>183529034
Don't try to be a jack of all trades. Pick a few things to be really good at. It isn't quite Age of Decadence where you simply cannot do everything and you will screw yourself if you even try, but still try to be good at something.

The class system gives all the restrictions necessary. I don't think it's even possible to make something bad, even if you let RNG make your characters. I know I tried. Although I never took any random generated party farther than early Act 2, because it was boring as fuck.

Me neither. Can't wait to see the psi/AP costs and cooldowns for hybrid potentials.

And finally some non-damage spells that work on bots, fuck yeah. Imprint+Recurrence is going to make life so much easier against Industrial fucks. I hate those things.
>>
>>183542029
You can always assume Underrail, which is correct in this and most cases.
>>
>>183541552
It looks broken on paper but you have to keep in mind it comes at a pretty steep cost.

Full psi already needs to max out 3 combat skills each level instead of one like all other builds do, maxing 4 will leave them with very few points to spend on anything else.

Any other build that wants to pick it up as a support skill will have to suffer the 25% HP penalty. This hurts a lot, especially on hard.

Sure, 15 AP and shorter cooldowns look cool, but so does 25% HP and a ton of skill points.
>>
>>183543216
I was thinking of building either a sniper or crit plasma pistol character to exploit Entropic Reocurrence, but now that I think about it the only occasion where so much single target damage would be practical is the very end and maybe one or two encounters.

The great question with this school is, will there be ANY way to resist its effect or mitigate its damage? You can't stop time with shields and armors, probably not even Locus can snap you out of Stasis, and it doesn't seem to fall under resolve or fortitude either.

So would casting Implosion and then Recurrence basically mean gg for Tchort? Not that pure psi builds have any trouble there, but still. Does this school have any counters at all?

Any of you guys know MARDEK RPG?
Series has been dead for years but it's still one of my all time favorites. Probably the single best Flash game and flash RPG I've played.
Basically built on a basis of parodying Final Fantasy games, but with a ton of own twists.
>>
>>183564056
How is that surprising?
Most speedrunners do it for "fame", competition, very few for the achievement itself.
If the game is obscure, nobody will have the motivation to run it.
You need to be popular first, then hope your game has sufficient tricks and preferably - exploits that would make the runners interested.

Could there be a necromancy idle game?
Or maybe a dialogue focused RPG or trypical indie interactive experience where youre a necromancer and the combat plays itself just as an excuse to still call it a game.
>>
>>183569098
I'm pretty sure a good necromancy game would be something made in the style of Dungeon Keeper, where you could take full advantage of that fact that you can raise the dead in large numbers.
>>
>>183567265
I love that series, except for the coockie and cache saves that I always forgot to save, wiping out all of my progress.
If the creator doesn't let its weridness and depression prevail, a new title scould be released.
>>
>>183568893
I want to talk about the game so, how does it do it?
I mean it has an atmosphere I havent been able to find in any other RPGmaker game. It's comfy at times but you can always feel some sense of uneasearound you. It IS dark, yet it doesn't feel edgy. I don't know if it can be even be called a horror game.

What I do know and I love about it is the amount of things you can do in different order. I love how NPC seems to have their own backstory. It's cool because it makes that little word feel more alive. The dev is pretty nice too.
I've been using the game as a learning method to get into RPG maker. I was never able to learn with tutorials or reading other games in-event scripting, CG showed me how to think in clever ways. the dev gave me a couple of tips with events. last week I made a card-reading minigame on paper, I havent tried it on the program yet but I'm writting on paper as if it was my event screen

I'm thinking...
* Crisp sounds (not canned RPG maker ones?) at the right times.
* Creepy soundtrack, doesn't overdo it.
* Dying is fine.. but you've got a number of "reasons to live" that keeps counting down. The wording of that is deliciously creepy. Infinite respawns would have killed the tension.
* Being on a time limit, additionally
* There are lots of slightly off things (inn door stuck halfway underground, a wishing well that... does nothing(?), a place to sit out of the wind in a goddamn video game, large centaurs which aren't actually enemies but just bonk you out of the way, etc).

I imagine combat being simple is in its favor too, keeps danger on the table, but doesn't spend too much time with going through the motions of combat mechanics crap
>>
>>183569954
Thanks
>>
>>183570271
If I recall well the dying depends if you are playing on easy mode or not, but if you are playing on not easy, I noticed that if you talk in the REFUGE the Reasons to Live counter stops and you start playing as if you don't have reasons to live at all. just don't get killed/jump off and die
In the CG concept book it mentioned on a page the idea of gaining reasons to live, one of them was talking to the REFUGE kids. As for how it works on the demo if it happens or it's just an impression of mine I don't know

I love the combat system, reading it is very amusing.
I don't think I'm touching it/making my own combat mode. I don't think I want combat at all for my stuff.

As for the infinite respawns I wonder about being able to save everywhere, anytime.
It's pretty good if you are exploring and you walk a lot, but you can even save while fighting or before. so when found in peril/not knowing if an enemy is strong, you can just save
>>
>>183569430
Yeah if by "new title" you mean "a completely different game that has been stripped of all violence in favor of ' feelings' because of 'toxic masculinity', setting completely re-witten, main character race-bent to be black and some of his friend genderbent into women for the sake if 'more famale representation' " then yeah, it might be released.
But I wouldn't count on it. As far as I've read on his blog, Tobias has literal brain cancer and is contemplating suicide while he is still able.
>>
>>183570765
I was thinking I'd pull an autosave stunt if I wanted to make an RPG like that. Dunno if that's possible in RPG maker.

That way you'd have to go so far as savescum (duplicating the save folder to avoid dying) if you really wanted to go as long as possible.
>>
>>183554480
It's there, look again
>>
>>183571218
it is possible on RPG maker versions that allow script editing as VXace.

I tried on 2000 and I can't do it. I'm still checking if I can do 8 direction walk on 2000, but most things are done via scripts or messing with the program itself. So far I've seen on 2000 you can only work with the default features the progam comes with. What makes me wonder how the fuck Oneshot did the whole meta deal.

>That way you'd have to go so far as savescum (duplicating the save folder to avoid dying) if you really wanted to go as long as possible
Man, it reminded me that you can do that on DCSS. It is too much power.

>Like, why would you even expect it to change?
Maybe he's been datamining and thought that the line is conditional. It looks like that on a glance. The Institute ending slide does weird things like accessing the npc_tch_eidein_dead flag but on a closer inspection, curiously enough, it doesn't do anything with it. Doesn't even assign it to anything, much less use it as a condition.

All in all it's yet another hint that there were plans for a scenario where Eidein survives and descends with you. Man, that would've been interesting alternative point of view for the endgame. And for some reason that Eidein's passage map connecting Cytosine and Nucleus is still distributed with the game, unlike most other cut content...

Maybe they have plans for it. The experimental branch has quite a bit of new content in it already.
>>
>>183582190
That could have been interesting. One thing that always bothered me is that nothing ever came out of giving the Institute your blood sample. That's one thing that just screams "this is going to bite you in the ass".

Same goes for Hollow Earth and the two bases. Can't help but wonder if it was ever meant to be an actual battlefield between the two factions.

I never saw it as such. It's just a blood sample Anon, what do you expect them to do with it? Clone you? Maybe they made a hypo out of it.

>Same goes for Hollow Earth and the two bases. Can't help but wonder if it was ever meant to be an actual battlefield between the two factions.
I don't think so, constant battles wouldn't really fit that atmosphere of isolation DC has. The battle is supposed to be long over when you arrive.

It was a very ominous blood test, alright? Do you really need large black needles with tentacles to test for tapeworms? Maybe that's the only kind of needle they have, but you can't blame a jack for freaking out. Always thought they send it to Tchort to munch on it once it was tested for diseases.

>The battle is supposed to be long over when you arrive.

I was thinking more in the terms of patrols and maybe occasional fights if they meet up, but I suppose you are right. The debuff timer is more than enough distraction anyway.
>>
>>183584336
>Do you really need large black needles with tentacles to test for tapeworms?
That's just the way tchortists do things. Uniforms, symbols, tapestry, needles, figurines, etc. Everything is better with tentacles.

How come no indie dev made a proper Wild West RPG yet? At least something like the Expeditions series, preferably with hardcore gameplay elements. Hard West is the closest I can think of, even though it's clearly an inadequate example.

Zombies are also boring. The problem with both genres is that once you've seen one, you've seen all. As long as you work within the genre there is not much room for creativity, not enough to fill an entire RPG with content.

>>
>>183591110
And Tolkien fantasy games come with class variety, magic, enormous bestiaries and different landscapes. Sci-fi is also limitless, you can come up with any kind of setting and technology. Enough room to build an RPG. What would you do with Wild West? What classes if any, skills and weapons would you have? How would you make encounters interesting and varied?

Wanted to do an energy pistol run anyway. Plan was to wait for the buff Styg promised, but Gunslinger/Execute sounds good to me.

If I can get my hands on the alpha, that is. So far the only alpha torrent I found has no active seeders or leechers, but I'll keep it open, maybe one will drop by. My pirating skills are beyond rusty, but then, looking for a released game's alpha from at least two years ago is a pretty long shot anyway. Doesn't help that pirating Underrail, no matter the reason, feels all sorts of wrong.

Wasn't that a post-release nerf? If it was I might give it a go should plan A fail and I become too bored waiting for the expansion.

You monster. I don't like killing muties, they don't put up much fight and don't have any interesting tricks. And, well, they mind their own business and stay in their designated ghettos. You don't see muties hurting anyone unless you invade their privacy. It's like shooting up people with lepers, sure you can do it, but it kind of makes you a cunt.
>>
>>183645001
>You don't see muties hurting anyone unless you invade their privacy.
Nah, that's Core City gangsters. Muties attack on sight so fuck them. Gotta do something with that JHP ammo.
>>
>>183645193
Attacking on sight is probably a wise idea when you have green tumors everywhere and acid is dripping through the holes it burnt in your throat. Nah, muties are alright. Stay out of their way and they are perfectly chill. It's not like they go out and hunt like lurkers or muggers, or do anything bad really.

But if you just wanna use up some ammo, why not.
>>
>>183646159
>Attacking on sight is probably a wise idea when you have green tumors everywhere and acid is dripping through the holes it burnt in your throat
Apparently not since it gets them killed. Juke and Doublestep on the other hand are doing fine.

>But if you just wanna use up some ammo, why not
They are one of the very few enemies that are vulnerable to JHP while having high enough HP to justify using it over standard ammo. I can't let the chance slip by.

>>183653903
big SPOILER, I would reccomend this after finishing a blind walktrough
there is an area in the game where if you reach it before 3-5 days (?) you can trade items in exchange of other items. It's on a shop kept by a Z called Zludnek.
you can trade you walking stick for a tin and a key. The key you get can open the chest. The tin lets you repair a dirty green ring,, turning it into a jadestone ring which allows you to use MP and teleport to far away areas.
Once you get teleporting (you can also get it by failing the witch bone quest when equiping a pure femur)you can go to a MONUMENT. Meet a girl on an area beside a waterfall. she wont talk to you. Now inside that hidden chest, there is a blue mushroom which seems to be her favorite color. then you do other shit. damn, this is very long and took me a month to figure out.the reward is the best weapon in game that makes crazy damage to everything

>>
>>183654479
I wrote on the spoiler HALF of what you have to do
I'm gonna write the rest for when you done exploring the whole map
Opening the chest will cause you to go BLIND, which means you can't see shit in the game, you are gonna get lost so it's better to get that playthrough once you know all the areas.
You are Blind. You go back to the MONUMENT area, equip the Blue Mushroom in you equpment slot. THEN talk to the girl again, she will compliment the color blue, she is gonna gift you the Blue Sword (which made me have an ATK of 300). yet you are still blind.

In the area the GIANT was guarding keep going north to where you saw a pentagram on the ground, if you go there without meeting the girl, it's game over, but once you meet the girl it allows you entrance to another pentagram which transports to a hidden town. on the hidden town there is a man who can cure your blindness.

BTW depending on the days you can find Zludnek on his shop, him leaving the area near some trees or find everything empty.

shit would go like this

>get dirty ring/pure femur (if femur, teleporting)>go to Zludnek's shop on early date>get the key (and upgrade for the ring w/ teleporting)> get the heresy scroll > kill Pawkey, the P looking dude> get mushroom/blind>teleport to MONUMENT> talk to the girl, get sword and access to whats beyond the pentagram> go to hidden town> get healed

there is also a walktrhough on the dev channel with that route, it was nice to see I didn't forget anything

on the scroll
it's a powerful item which kills NPC's for huge amounts of EXP, depending of where and whom you use it you might get different results. some of them hilarious

From what I've gathered from interviews/footage it's like a sports RPG about gaining rites to ascend (descend?) to hell or some demon life. I trust them after Bastion and Transistor though, I can't fucking wait.

you died without reasons to live?
I will have to replay normal mode.
Btw you can always lay easy mode which gives you many items when you start and dont have to be worrying about your reasons to live

did you complete the witch's quest?
>>
>>183512872

Playing though Expeditions: Viking. Finished all the quests, so I made a save where I finally have to decide which side to support at a battle over a town that wants to stay independent so I can do them all.

Did an independent run, but didn't have enough power to actually take over Britain, so I just had to go home, but I had a high enough prosperity rating to not get screwed over my rival thane.

Currently doing a pro-Northumbra run, it's a little fun to bully people or be rude in this game even if you're doing a peaceful run.

Saving the pro-Picts run for last since they're my favorite faction and have better waifus.
>>
>>183669617
>you died without reasons to live?
Correct. I liked having my life on the line, if I play it again I think I'll do it on normal again.

>did you complete the witch's quest?
Nah. I don't think I got very far at all. Lost a few reasons to live trying to kill a spider or something.

I explored everywhere I could figure out how to get to... and then died to a snek in the caves.

When I died it said I "cleared 14 events" if that gives you any clue.
>>
>>183669738
there are like 44 events you can get, they are more but some routes block you from getting some events (for example one that requires one thing or the other)

the spiders and the snakes are a biiit strong imo. With time you will get to know which ones are stronger or not. Remember to check everything that looks a bit off and it's always nice to check the [look around you] command to read a description of where you are.

anything in particular that may have caught your interest?

The game has a couple of stats for your hometown called Power and Prosperity, and the bulk of these stats come from buildings you can build. I think once either of these stats hits 100, or you secure an alliance with the Picts or Northumbrans, you can end your quest and go to the endgame scenario where you have to make your case to let the king keep you as Thane instead of demoting you to being your rival's vassal. I chose buildings that boosted prosperity instead of power, but I think that was a mistake. You can boost prosperity by bringing gold back home, but there isn't a similar mechanic for power. So if you pick the buildings that give you power, you can still get 100 on both stats, but if you pick the buildings that give you prosperity, you can't.

The main benefit of building for prosperity is that you get access to a market with good rates AND lets you buy thralls earlier than if you went for power. Next time I play, I'll probably go for power and play as a grill.

So far, I only gotten the ending that happens if you get 100 prosperity, 60-70ish power, and have secured no alliance. Your rival basically says you're a huge pussy and when Charlemagne comes to invade the Danes, you'll be the weak link that screws the kingdom over. So I want to see what case he makes if I have guys (either my own or an allied country) to help me.

also:
>tfw can't romance the edgy assassin lady
So she tried to kill me a couple of times, big whoop. Makes victory that much sweeter.

Biggest questions after dying:

What does "curse" do exactly? (I admit I loaded after getting cursed).

Does that respite from wind to the left of the starting house do anything?

How do I get inside that mansion with a locked gate in front of it?

Curse lowers you ATK stat in combat in a 50%. Being DOUBLE CURSED affects other stats as as DEF aswell. Don't fight while cursed, you do shit damage.

Being Warm is Normal, while being Cold lowers you DEF in half. wear something warm or use a scroll of warmth.

There are others status effects but you will see them later. Learn how to brew recipes, in case you get poisoned.

And using Holy Water gives you a chance of 1 in 3 of doing a critical attack per attack, the holy water effect wears off after 3 turns. Carrying water, holy water and recipes is what makes important finding empty bottles. In normal mode you can find them on hidden places/people

I don't understand second question

if by the mansion you mean pic related?

if you can TELEPORT, you just select ZLUDNEK and simply appear inside.

The gate requires a key so you have to either teleport or take another route to reach the area.
I don't want to say where to go since you are about to start another game, but I do think the entrance to that connecting area was kind of bullshit. Sometimes when there are fences you can kick them down. but it's not the one in pic related. have fun looking for it. you have a lot to stumble upon.

>>183681086
It's still turn-based, except moving a square counts as a turn as well as attacking. It's very story and character heavy focused, and the overall story that connects the individual chapters is very JRPG-esque. The presentation is obviously akin to something like FF4/5 style graphics. It has all the stats, equipment, skills, leveling up, grinding (you can in fact grind in several of the chapters), crafting, random encounters, bosses, music, etc. of the style of many other JRPGs of the time, tweaked here and there as any individual JRPG does.

Having a slightly different version of a battle system, having less grinding, and not having infinite resources available at all times doesn't make it not a JRPG anymore.

Already allowing me to modify the soil to maximize crops would be nice. I recently played Emperor (the old Sierra city-builder), and it had some really nice, comfy farms. Imagine being able to dig some small trenches to irrigate your crops, or even digging moats.

In fact, I think I want Stronghold.
>>
>>183725001
Wouldn't trenches require this game to have Z-levels? As it stands, the game is only 2D with some rudimentary support for layers above (hills, mountains, mostly rocks) and layers below (only used for deep mining, afaik). Simulating Z-levels and getting those to generate across an entire planet could be a difficult task, though.
>>
>>183725174
>Wouldn't trenches require this game to have Z-levels?
You can do without, just treat them like sandbags (slow the enemy down), or like obstacles. Like a wall, but without the ressource cost, just some labour.

Actually, I'd like to see the labour changed a bit. Like packing the dirt (like the Chinese did) to make a dirt road. Or being able to make an item more expensive labour-wise by requiring it to be of a specific quality, instead of wasting ressources to spam crap until it's finally decent.

Well disaster struck my first attempt at a game as a bear, any tips for a new player?
>>
>>183726485
First, individuals chambers. 2x3 should be enough.
Second, keep uncooked food, it's preserved longer, only cook it when you need to eat it. Keep it at 10 cooked food. Basically (your colonists) x 3.
Third, keep your food stockpile under a mountain, and build airlocks to keep them under 0°c.
Also, don't build too many air conditioner. Build vents, and build 3 passive coolers to keep the temperature at 15°c.
Build walls around your crops, but make sure the pawns won't build a roof over it.

Once your situation is stabilized, build that table that let you chip chunks into stones. Stone walls are not flammable, so use them to either build walls or roads.

Stockpile steel as much as possible, and use renewable ressources to train up your crafting abilities (like wood).
>>
>>183726485
Oh, also.
Rice is pretty much the best crop early, but on the second year, you might want to grow some corn. It takes a lot of time to grow, but it lasts for 2 years without being frozen, and it gives a lot of food, but it grows for a long time.

And make good food as soon as possible, it gives a mood bonus.
Ideally, you want to grow some cotton too, but unless you get some nudists, you can wait a bit for that. The animals you hunt can give you enough leather for starters.

I'm not even talking about the waters, I'm talking about the Aurora.
With /indie/'s help, I managed to assemble a sea glider, so I went to explore that ship, and I got a shitload of stuff (including a lot of fire extinguisher that I brough home because I can probably recycle them or at least fill them), but at one moment, I don't really understand what happened, but... I'll greentext it.
>arrives at the Aurora
>explores around
>kills some headcrabs because I'm a murderhobo
>finally go in
>there's a corridor that abruptly gives on water
>"????"
>jumps
>move forward
>start going through the engines
>understand I somehow clipped through the wall
>start panicking
>tries to force myself in
>miraculously managed to clips in
>hands shaking
>spent 40 minutes repairing the reactor and trying to find a way out

I don't know if there's a name for that phobia of falling through the level, but that shit panicked me as much as the fucking xenomorph from Alien Isolation and Sadako. And these gave the 27-years old me nightmares.

Fucking Aurora.
>>
By the way, still about Subnautica...
Spoilers : I explored the Aurora, repaired the core, stole basically everything, built myself a sea moth, and followed the signals leading to Botanica Island or whatever the name is (the island that has a teleporter leading to lithium Land), and checked everything there. What now?

Just explore. Try to find the materials to build a prawn suit, assuming you got the blueprint. There should be a PDA on the floating island with details of another location.
>>
>>183736901
I think I found a PDA telling me to consider the officer dead or something, and then I found some underground vents.

Is the prawn suit good? The Sea Moth had me really worried about pressure.
>>

The PRAWN suit can dive deeper than anything else and is basically a seafloor walking tank with drills.

I have built a seabase in the void, at a depth of 2.7km
Turns out the cyclops does automatically take damage below it's crush depth, but it does so slowly enough to be manageable, and both using the shield and going outside makes it stop taking damage
And surprisingly enough, the seabase doesn't need any reinforcements, however it only has 1.9 hull points, which I doubt will be enough to tolerate any more at this depth without reinforcements
The floodlights are necessary for seeing the seafloor, as there's absolutely no light at these depths
Given their power consumption compared to the bioreactor's output, I'll try replacing them with creepvines and see how well that works at making the seafloor visible
But otherwise, with a bed, bioreactor, and growbed with an assortment of floating island plants, this base is already fully self-sustaining, though difficult to access and in what's honestly the most terrifying area in the game

Also, what's the deal with the shadow guys in Pointless are they ghosts or souls or something? It's a little trippy, because I think this game involves a little more magic than Painful did. Most of the magic in Painful was fingerbeams and firebombs, while in Pointless, you got the ghosts and that weird heart land, and the pink pill with "occult properties."

Made a Palace Miniboss with NTT.

> Greater Guardian (+ Lesser Guardian x96)
> HP: 420
Hijacks the stage and surrounds the player with a wall of invincible guardians. The Greater Guardian phases in and out of the crowd while the Lesser Guardians fire at you. Killing the Greater Guardian dispels the rest.

It's not a particularly hard boss to fight. Its worst trait is that it phases back into the crowd faster as a response to damage, meaning you can't just fire a planet buster at it like you can with YV and an SPC. On that note, someone recently reached the YV world record at 1-3 L12, and did that trick against the throne often.

That's kind of the point though, it is supposed to be one of the greates challanges in the game. It's probably he most tense part of the game when doing an ironman run (or at least attempting as few deaths as possible with no savescumming), gasing the drones is a close second.

Goo and the whole sewers in general are most likely to get you killed simply because RNG is very strong early on. If you manage to get past goo you most likely have gear good enough to carry you through the entire game as long as you regularly upgrade it.

Maybe not on your first attempt, but once you get familiar with new levels it's pretty easy.

I would say crabs and goo are the only enemies that can screw you regardless of how gud you git. If you manage to get a good armor and/or weapon early on you are golden.

Subsequent runs get a lot easier once you defeat the 2nd boss- he drops a Tome of Mastery that allows to choose a sub-class. Once you defeat him once you will start every run with said tome.

>Should I make a pair of striders and take the Stealth hit or just stick to tabi boots?
It's been a while since I even made striders but the last time I played they gave less movement points than top tier tabis. So not only do you get a hit to stealth, you are getting less MPs.

The only reason to wear striders instead of tabis that I can see would be 100% more damage from Dirty Kick and immunity to caltrops if oyu make them out of metal. But then again infused siphnoer tabis make you immune to immobilization, infused rathound reduce the cooldown of Dirty Kick, black cloth gives a big stealth bonus, etc.

>Also, how good is Interloper?
It's mostly just convenience if you don't have the patience to deal with the default stealth speed. Those 15 MPs in stealth can be useful in combat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get 7 AGI just for them. I usually go with 6 for Sprint because 30 MPs for 2 turns is do good for basically any build.
>>
>>183811573
Alright, thanks. Now that I think about it Interloper would've been infinitely more useful in Depot A than right now.

What are the different approaches about crafting in video games? I see you guys talking about it like it's very powerful, but in all the games I ever bothered to play, you find the best stuff by murdering people.

Disguised bump.
>>
>>183826173
> I see you guys talking about it like it's very powerful
It is. Crafted gear is the best gear you can possibly get in nearly all aspects, with only a few exceptions that you could count on one hand.

The catch is that most of the top tier stuff is only accessible late in the game (tons of useful stuff early and mid game as well though) and it requires a ton of skill points that could be spent on something else.
>>
>>183827790
Which game are you talking about? In general?

In Diablo 3, crafting is pretty shitty, and in survival games, it's usually to make, well, survival stuff.
>>
>>183827941
>Which game are you talking about?
Underrail.
>>
>>183828283
So in Underrail, crafting is a talent you develop in the game to unlock the bestest stuff, to compensate for being average in other disciplines?
>>
>>183828386
Basically, yeah. You also need to choose what exactly do you want to craft, as there are 5 crafting skills and you are not likely to be able to get them all high.
>>
>>183828683
So it works differently than in New Vegas.
>>
>>183828807
A lot. New Vegas has far fewer skills, you can max a lot more skills and crafting is limited to utility such as drugs, ammo, medicine, etc. not armors and weapons (well maybe except the gecko leather/metal armor).

In Underrail you can craft basically anything.
>>
>>183829835
I remember crafting in New Vegas being mostly an alternative to trading. You still had to drop the best stuff by looting a fresh body.

Rage and frustration. I beat the game twice with the starting guy (the commando), trying to finish it with any other character was way too long because it takes ten years to kill anything and monsters arrive in pack of fifty, the makes some achievements downright impossible (hello hello, it's impossible to have all the monsters dead by the time the teleporter is charged when 1) you're constantly spawning new ones, and 2) you're hiding them somewhere in the level).

Ultimately, I gave up on it when I changed computers and found out my save wasn't even on the Steam cloud and I had no clue where it was.

It mostly applies to deeploopers (ie, people that go beyond L3), however;
> Corrupted Crown Vaults (Vaults have a chance to generate with your current area's enemies and destroy the crown pickup due to finnicky generation)
> Throne II crash (damaging it with Boss Intros enabled has a chance to crash the game)
> Portals spawning on top of barrel debris (GameMaker's fault, rather than Vlambeer's)
> Rad Canisters (and thus, Hostile Horrors) spawning as Rogue when skipping weapon chests
> Softlocks involving Ravens (and other similar enemies) attempting to fly into 1 tile wide tunnels (typically created with Hammerhead and Ultra Crossbows)
> Elite Shielders not teleporting (Teleporting actually makes them MUCH easier to deal with)
> As many as Six chests spawning as Rogue on one level (CoLove + Open Mind can potentially yield two strikes and four ammo chests, as opposed to just five)
> CoLove spawning four chests as Rogue instead of three (Intentional?)
That's to name a few. Some are good, while others are bad. Corrupted Crown Vaults can end runs if you do them late enough in the game, and the Throne II crash has claimed the runs of many deeploopers.

It's a give-and-take thing. I personally like corrupted crown vaults, enough that I wrote a mod for NTT to recreate the effects while keeping the crown pickup present.

Unrelated; To anyone out there that missed it, Iji updated in March and added two new endings. One of them is a gutpunch end

It's absolutely worth the replay. Dan originally did it just for the reason that he wanted to update it to GM7, which is a bit friendlier with newer systems, but as expected, he added a lot of extra content
Two new endings, a kill log for every single Tasen/Komato you kill in your run, Non-Lethal nanoweapons to make pacifism a bit more pleasant, andMissile Pony X, to complement Hero 3D

I've only came across a few, none game breaking.

While camping, you can get certain beneficial statuses like Wellfed and Well rested that boost your stats, however, these only last a certain amount of time. And camping passes about twelve hours, during which the beneficial statuses expire, making them effectively pointless.

You can still camp to remove hunger and fatigue just fine though.

Another bug I found was an ability that normally works by having a duel-wielding fighter attack an enemy's shield with one weapon, and then doing an attack that can't be blocked with the second weapon. If you use the witchcraft ability "venemous" on them before they do this, they will instead do TWO unblockable hits to the enemy's health instead. It came in handy with Gunnarr and Roskva, but I usually just like to have Gunnar use expose shield instead and then take out the exposed guy with my bowmen.

Other than that, I didn't notice any bugs, and I still am having a lot of fun with the game. I'm probably going to start a new guy so I can get my power stat to 100 this time (in my current run, my power is low, so my ending always has it so Christianity makes its way to my country), preferably getting 100 prosperity too so I can see all the different ways to end the game.

I like how they added some more ways to end the campaign. Back in Expeditions Conquistador, your main options were "Work for the Aztecs, Work for the Toltemics, and then when you finish their questline, you have the option of betraying them to claim the land for Spain." You can do the same thing here, but you can also decide to fuck being all sneaky about this shit and raise a big army to fight these guys instead of gaining their trust and betraying them.

I needed a way to get all players into the arena. It's guaranteed to spawn on top of one of them, making it a non-issue in 1p, but the other three players can be anywhere on-stage. For that reason, it spawns a guardian on top of you that drags you back to the stage.

Not the most graceful, but certainly functional.

>Do siphoners even prey on non-humans?

Pretty sure they do. I don't think an animal would survive preying exclusively on humans. IRL, the only things that survive solely on humans are tiny parasites. When you're bigger, it's not a good idea to restrict your diet solely to things that can sharpen a stick and throw it at you or just shoot you. Although humans are probably a tasty and filling target, I imagine they mainly subsist on fish, other aquatic animals, and stuff like pigs and rathounds.

>>183857536

Buzzer basically tells you what the Faceless are trying to look for, which lets you skip ahead in the questline a little. If you let him die, you have to look for a different lead on what the Faceless are doing. I think you can go to Foundry and do a quest there to find a missing guy, and the guy will tell you what you need to know, or you can go to a place near Foundry with a lot of gangsters, one of which has a little machine with various info, some of which tells you about the supercube whatchamacallit the faceless are looking for.

I don't think they could survive with blood alone. There's a reason why hemophages are usually small animals.

But they don't have claws to scratch with, and they don't have teeth to bite with, so maybe sucking blood is the only fast way they can kill, and sucking is the only way they can feed. Could be that after the prey is dead they feed like spiders, pump the corpse full of digestive enzymes then suck out the liquefied tissues.

>Both by definition, are bad endings.
A bad ending is not a gutpunch end. Alpha Striking the planet due to your violent and generally brutish actions is to be expected, as that is the logical course the story would take. In contrast, Iji being murdered in cold blood after having her pacifistic ideals chewed up and spat out in her face has the "punch-in-the-gut" effect that leaves you feeling sour afterwards. The latter directly contrasts the good "true" pacifist ends that have come up in a lot of games where saving everyone is a good thing. Iosa is scum who never should have been spared to begin with.
>>
>>183891896
On that note, I went forward knowing there would be a gutpunch, and thought it was the alpha strike at first. I did an Extreme Pacifist No-Kills run to commemorate whatever ending was going to follow, and well, I won't be forgetting it any time soon.

He relocates to a different "safer" place as soon as you get him out anyways. It's highly unlikely he will work around Foundry since it's possible that sooner or later authorities will find out that the merchant you framed is innocent.

It really makes no difference, he's not oging back to Foundry anyways. As a matter of fact breaking him out leaves no evidence against you while getting him out involves bullshitting the Chief and possibly the prison warden.

While true, you could say the same about breaking Maura out. They are already hiding as is.

Breaking him out has no downsides at best or is a trade-off at worst. Not to mention it requires a bit of effort. Should count as optimal to me.
>>
>>183905961
>That means more work and more risk.

Half of the work was already done before you even arrived. They prepared the field for you and wanted to see if you'd figure out what should be done.

>While true, you could say the same about breaking Maura out.

Not really. They don't have a cell in Junkyard, they were just doing an assignment there. The prisoner was a known Free Drone sitting in Protectorate prisons, if someone breaks her out then suspicion naturally falls on the Drones.

>Not to mention it requires a bit of effort.

Doesn't require any more effort than doing the optimal solution the stealthy way instead of just talking your way through it. In fact it requires less effort, since going in and getting him out doesn't require doing other quests or passing fairly high checks.

Finally got the double jump and now went full backtracking. This villa in particular was way too hard to even get past the 2nd enemy before but now I got it explored all out. The boss in this suddenly starts to spam real danamaku and I did not see how to damage it so I am grinding for a 22.000 item a hidden shopkeeper in here asks for a nightmare pendant.
The bird is named Citrus and is my favourite spell. Sits on your head when idle and attacks all enemies that come close.

>>
>>183931381
What exaclty do you mean? Thought control is already silent and really fucking powerful compared to other silent options. Psi also gets an ability that allows you to break the line of sight, debuff enemy detection and enter stealth immediately.
>>
>>183931701
A large AoE spell, imagine something with a radius similar to Cryokinetic Orb's, that doesn't let sound travel out. Not exactly crowd control, more like making sure you can fight without reinforcements arriving too soon, at least as long as everyone stays within the area. It's something hybrids could find plenty of use for.
>>
>>183932107
Something like this would trivialize the entire sound mechanic. There would be no reason to choose the silent option over being loud if you have an ability that makes everything silent.

I'm not saying things within the radius would be muted, that's the point of keeping it large. Anyone staying inside would still hear everything, so it wouldn't be a good option for single targets. But it could, in theory, gain you a turn or two.

Ah sorry if you ahve been waiting. I was way into the game to take a break for a while.
This screen I thought I did not have a third jump or higher jump yet because I activated the 2 switches in the wrong order.
So I just jumped into damage boost with the green fish into double jump which made this possible without switches.
>>
>>183932964
I'm confused.

>I'm not saying things within the radius would be muted
>Anyone staying inside would still hear everything
How does this change anything? Enemy groups are almost always pretty far apart so no matter how large do you make the radius, it's going to prevent other enemy group from getting attracted to killing another one. Unless you make it cover half the map, but that's just silly.

Not to mention that even silent weapons need to kill the enemy in one turn or keep him stunned/incapacitated to prevent him from calling for help. That ability would make psi the de-facto best option in yet another area.

The idea of an ability that makes loud weapons silent is not a good one. It will always end up trivializing the mechanic.

That's mechanically just a boring single target ability.

I want something that reverses the entire gameflow for predetermined duration. CTRL+Z basically. But when it stops, you get an extra turn at that time.

And enemies can also use it!

That would not only be hard to implement, it would also be obscenely OP.

>And enemies can also use it!
First of all, making everything OP is not a good way to balance things. I've seen this approach many times and it just ends up in one giant clusterfuck.

Second, you are greatly overestimating the AI ability to make tactical decisions of such depth. Enemies will often use morphine while under 1/3 HP and you want them to decide when it's a good time to Ctrl+Z the game? Come on now.
>>
>>183936174

> I'll build a sniper and preemptively drop everyone with a purple bar
That's already the best course of action. No matter what build you make, thought controllers are always top priority.
>>
>>183936612
It's not any more OP than savescumming but it would be absolutely hilarious for dicking around in combat. Until it happens to your perfectly executed flawless turns.
>>
>>183937295
>It's not any more OP than savescumming
You can't prevent savescumming without limiting the players ability to save the game freely. You can however balance the abilites to not be OP.

Come on Anon, it's like saying
>why doesn't the game give me infinite HP, feats, skillpoints and carry weight? It's not any more broken than using Cheat Engine or editing files!
Saving the game is not a part of the gameplay itself. Games such as Undertale might be an exception, but Underrail isn't.

>Until it happens to your perfectly executed flawless turns
Or until the AI decides it will rewind its perfectly executed flawless turn instead. Or maybe it iwll rewind your fuck up instead giving you an edge.

AI is not advanced enough to judge what constitutes a "flawless turn". Again, it's not advanced enough to figure out using a drug that will kill you if you are below 1/3 HP is not a good idea if you are below 1/3 HP.

>How does this change anything?

There are many cases where within a larger area something can make blind zones, like corridors, columns, or rocks, which can be strategically used to pick off enemies one by one with regular stealthy methods. The idea was if the radius was large enough, you wouldn't be able to deal with just one, you'd have to fight the whole group, because the sound would travel to them even if they can't see you. With high enough AP and psi cost it would put a higher pressure on you to finish it up in one turn or use the usual stun/incapacitate strategies, since nothing will stop them from leaving the area when their turn comes. Think of something like how they try to leave areas on fire.

Well, at least that was the general idea. But I've been trying to do some mock ups with different enemy placements and vision ranges, and couldn't really make it work. So yeah, shit idea I guess.

But you still avoid drawing attention from the other group of enemies somehere nearby. If there is no other group of enemies then the ability does pretty much nothing.

So it still boils down to preventing another group of enemies from investigating regardless of how loud your weapons are, which still trivializes the mechanic to a certain degree.
