also, the clones not being treated as one dimensional cannon fodder would be a good start. i think messing around with the idea that literally any one of these shadows could have been found first and be considered the real one by his friends, and even touching on the theme of "what makes him any different, special, and more entitled to exist than any of the others" would be pretty rad.

imagine him coming to terms with being a faker and generally avoiding bonding with anyone who knew the real him so as to not betray their memories of a person he isn't. rouge sticking to him out of wanting to have known the real one better and feeling responsible for waking him up and coming to form an inseparable bond for a reason, not just "because team dark means they gotta". omega not caring whether shadow is real or fake because he never knew the original.

then imagine the potential for battle damage. as a flesh and blood hedgehog, the best you're gonna get out of shadow is scrapes and bruises. but if he's a robot? you can straight up have the guy lose limbs, get holes blown in him, etc and be repaired later.

is all of this kind of "edgy"? yeah. would i love to write stories with these things in mind? hell yeah. sure as fuck beats him being an alien demon.

If I were to rewrite Shadow the Hedgehog, I'd reveal that "Shadow" was never actually meant to be the ultimate lifeform. He was ultimately an artificial research assistant created to help Gerald and act as a friend for Maria. When G.U.N. raided the Ark, Gerald implanted Shadow with false memories to make him think he was the ultimate lifeform and that it was his duty to bring the Chaos Emeralds to the Ark. The logic being if Shadow simply thought he was just a guy, he wouldn't have the confidence to achieve Gerald's wish. Ultimately Shadow is in fact just a guy, like how Sonic is just a guy that loves adventure, and Shadow isn't the ultimately lifeform or anything.

The reason why Shadow can use the Chaos Emeralds is because anyone can, if they have sufficient willpower and self-control. Gerald implanting him with false memories made him think he was the ultimate lifeform, giving him the confidence to make him believe he can do what he wants, but the truth is he got through everything on sheer willpower and not some inherent super powers.

Okay, let me rephrase what happens in the Dark version.


Shadow defeats Sonic and gets the 7th Chaos Emerald. Black Doom reveals the true intentions of the Black Arms to Shadow, about how they want to feed on humanity and stuff. Shadow is willing to go along with them, but Sonic isn't so easily defeated. Sonic comes up and is determined to stop Shadow. At that moment, Sonic's heroism resonates with something inside Shadow, and Maria's heart and soul is fully awakened or revealed or whatever. Maria, transparent and glowing blue, pleads to Shadow not to do this, to be the brave and heroic hedgehog she knows he is. But, Shadow's too far gone, and goes against Maria's wishes. So Maria teams up with Sonic.

After the Last Way, Maria does something that gives Sonic a massive boost of power before he goes Super on top of it, and Shadow uses the negative side of the Chaos Emeralds to undergo a dark version of a Super form. Dark Super Shadow, with Devil Doom, fights Super Sonic and Maria. In the end, Shadow kills them both, completely destroying whatever potential for goodness remained within him, and Shadow and the Black Arms rule the world and the universe.

The comparison to the comics is because the post-reboot comics are also an expansion of the game world under approval from Sega so they go through the same process as the strategy guide lore. The comic example fails because the comics DO contradict the games and have been stated to be a different continuity altogether. While post reboot follows the games more closely, it's still its own continuity. Separate from the games and the original archie continuity. Prima guides are written to further explain the games they're about. Often clearing up plot holes and other inconsistencies. You know, some games are so easy to predict.
Last boss? Cutscene's going to have Infinite's theme playing during the whole thing, except very quiet and subtle, kind of like the beginning of his Trailer. Pretty much everything will be explained in some backstory. Both Sonics will be out of commission, leaving Buddy by himself. That's when the song really kicks in to the 1:38 mark. Wide panning shots, side by side close ups, "It's only me and you, who is gonna save you now?" Boss battle starts.

Based on stuff Ian's said in the past, comic issues seems to be written roughly three or four months in advance, so they could end up releasing in January if they start hiring creatives now. Give enough time to decide on the direction the comic wants to go in and the general story for the first few issues, give the first few issues four months to be done up so they're really nice and snazzy to help draw new readers in, they could definitely release in January to take advantage of Forces being out right before (assuming it's not delayed).
