On average Sonya won't be promoting until like the Sage's Hamlet in Act 4. There's no way in hell Sonya will learn entrap before her act is done. You'd have to go out of your way to grind, not just like fight an extra skirmish in your path, but entering and reentering dungeons multiple times, messing around on the map for skirmishes to spawn, etc. Even excluding learn time, entrap sucks because of it's really bad range and really bad accuracy.

Mae and Celica easily 1 round or even 1 shot terrors with seraphim. Even against non terrors it's still a good spell to use because of it's good damage and low weight. Mae and Celica will have more attack than Sonya so they can out damage her with any spell as well. Sonya has to rely on excalibur crits to even do good damage and her crit rates will be in the 20's at best which isn't even reliable. Even Celica is a better excalibur user than her.

I didn't learn of the arena until chapter 2 which probably set back Azel, the Christmas knights, Jamke, Midayle, etc a lot.

I used Alec as much as I could but he just couldn't keep up with Beowulf or jesus on wheels Sigurd. So I benched him. Noishe has been on the bench almost the entire run.

I've got Lewyn and Sigurd ready to fuck up Silesia so he'll get his tome. Thankfully, Jamke and Brigid are so based they practically destroyed the whole Pegasus Knight squadron going for Thove by themselves. I've forgotten how much stronger/bulkier playable units have been in older FE's.

She comes at an even lower level than Sonya, except at the beginning of act 4, while Sonya is recruited mid/earlier act 3. She also has lower attack and speed than Sonya when recruited and no excalibur. Also, seraphim doesn't help her since you fight almost all humans that chapter.

hey, I just finished chapter 11 in awakening, killed whatever his name is, the plegian king fucker was tough, killed like 4 of my characters, thread me off-guard when he started running after any characters isolated far away.

Any fast sword unit with Moonbow, especially combined with Desperation. Hana could probably make amazing use of it as a "kill literally anything any time" button. So yeah, pretty much what this guy >>183449337 said.
A lot of units love Fury. Extra stats are good and the drawback is not a big problem.
Fast Blade mages are a good option. Also, Bride Cordelia if +Spd. Any fast killer, really.
Same as Fury, pretty much. I don't like it quite as much as other people do, but it does help secure a few KOs.
Sword units want it the most. Or slow blues, if you really want.

When Delthea joins almost all of the maps from that point on have lots of armors that she easily 1 rounds. She also has the 2nd highest base resistance in the game so she can deal with arcanists and witches with no problems since they'll tink her. The speed ring you'll get in the fear shrine lets her 1 round anything with aura/seraphim that isn't a dread fighter (she's the best candidate because everyone else would rather hold another weapon/item). By mid to late act 4, her speed will be high enough that you can give her the mage ring. Also worth noting is that she can 1rko Rudolf as well. There's also the fact that her high growths in all the relevant areas allow her to eclipse all other mages in the game except Celica.

You also have to keep in mind that in Alm's route you're kinda strapped on magic so Delthea has far less competition. Besides the villagers, you're only other mage is Luthier. And of the Ram Village Crew, the only one worth a damn as a mage is Kliff. Meanwhile in Celica's route you're swimming in mages; Celica, Mae, Boey, Nomah, potentially Atlas and Sonya.

So yeah, that strawman isn't very good.

He'd be a good DC unit, but not great. What give him his distance tankiness is Aegis + Shield Pulse 3. Good against low Def mages, but then he runs into the same trouble as any other DC user (Merric, Robin, Henry etc) without an offensive special like Bonfire/Ignis to eliminate the threat (or Vantage to pre-empt it).

It makes him wonderful support and someone to rely on in a clutch, but he's still not strong or versatile enough to be given a DC (over the half-dozen units who use it far better, like Zephiel, Titania, Lloyd, Est etc)

Chrom is by no means worthless. He doesn't fight mages well unless you SPECIFICALLY build him to have Distant Counter and Vantage 3 but other than that he's:

#1 Brave Sword+ user in the game with a potential 40 base Atk and no real wasted points in Spd or Res. HUGE damage, HUGE tankiness in melee combat.
Top 3 (I think, #1) of "Falchion Healers" who, with Falchion/Reciprocal Aid/Renewal 3 can trade off his huge HP to the team easily maxxing out their HP bars and refilling his own while removing enemies in-between heals with that massive Atk stat, including Dragons.
Extremely versatile in melee combat. He's just not mage friendly. Falchion is a Dragon-Killer, so only full-health Nowi is worth a second look.

Chrom is very good. Here's mine (he has a Brave Sword, but not a BS+, so I just use him as a generic attacker with mild Falchion Healing)
