It also works offensively to let her break past frailer TA Raven units like Cecilia and Sanaki. Might even get to kill a few Robins. You never use Bridelia for baiting because her defenses are garbo and most of the times she's running LaD anyways.
Her offensive spread is strong enough that Poison Strike is really just a redundant waste of time against everything but armor emblem, and you can just abuse Savage Blow chip for that.

I think it's inferior to both Firesweep and Brave Bow because you are introducing counterattacks into the equation to function properly. Bridelia is good for maybe 1 counterattack and that's only against some of the less potent enemies in arena.

Defenses are about having a team the player will willingly surrender against if they fuck up and accidentally sacrifice something because they need to restart their arena deathless run. Teams that get you defense wins are teams that are more likely to surprise the player with something they aren't expecting, like a WoM brave axe suddenly dropping on their Camus and OHKOing him. Distant Counter will get you lots of defenses because players rarely check to see if a unit is running something rare or unusual.

I have found also that running units with the "wrong" skillset can get you wins because people look at say Xander and know he has Siegfried, Bonfire/Ignis, QR, and cavbuffs. Run say Vantage on him (how many times has the AI been retarded and ran him at some unit he cant kill?) So when Camus and Xander were actually playable, they must not have realized how coveted and how powerful they truly were.
