Skyrim Classic™ doesn't crash either, unless you fuck something up. Both crash like, once in every ten hours or so even vanilla, but that's just Bethesda for you.

Probably the reason Ordinary Edition is crashing is that there's actually mods for it which also means there's mods that cause crashing, which you have installed.

Great Chaos Fireball Test #2.

Need to tone down the brightness of the fireball core a little, but otherwise it looks pretty nice. The lava it leaves is actually animated, so it flows pretty nicely. The area is about twice that of a wall of flames, and walking through the lava slows enemies, meaning you could potentially use it to kite large groups of melee foes at once.

The spell reads:

Lobs a heavy fireball, dealing 50 damage in a 10 foot radius. Leaves a pool of molten lava that lasts 4 seconds, dealing 25 damage per second and slowing enemies.

Cost: 300

Compare that to Fireball, which is 40 damage in a 15 foot radius for 133 mana. Or Incinerate, which is 60 damage to a single target for 300 mana. The main balancing issue I guess would be how much damage can you get out of the lava pool, and how much utility does the slow give you. But compared to the other two fire spells this one is also dreadfully slow, has about a third the effective range, and is affected by gravity - although that could be a benefit too, letting you shoot over cover like a mortar.

Originally the plan was that it would ONLY generate the lava pool if it hit a stone or dirt surface, but that felt a little too gimmicky to me.

Speaking of balance, I'm almost coding another spell.

Tell me if this sounds balanced.

Conjuration,

Consumes 2 dragon souls. Then summons a Soulbound Drake for 90 seconds. Repeat until the caster has less than 2 dragon souls.

My spellcasting playthrough has gone less than smooth, but i've managed. Faralda didn't recognize my Weak Fire Atronach, my regular Fire Atronach, nor my Potent Fire Atronach. I had to buy the spell from her and cast it, getting the same result. It's all a collusion i swear.

The thesis system to create spells feels nice, but at the same time it's far too specific, i am guessing spell compositions hoping to match some known spell. It does not recognize my spells to summon skeleton horses or Spirits of Order either.

Armour has chinks, the point is that loose cloth catches and redirects arrows well (which is why greek hoplite armour and shields were depicted as having so much fabric hanging off) and weighs fuckall. Also means you can keep many of the chinks in the armour (eg the divides where the armour is actually strapped together around your body) on the back, and build it lighter in the back. And historically capes were used as a convenient cloth barrier in case you somehow lost or couldn't carry your shield- throw it over your shoulder and hold it in front of you and it can be used to hide the position of vital bits and snag arrows or even swords if you're lucky.

Though as others said, the armour is also the armour of dragon slayers, so grappling and arrows are both fairly irrelevant. Their whole purpose was glory and religious fulfillment so it makes sense for their armour to have something vainglorious and impractical on it.

No, no. It doesn't summon once every 90 seconds. It drains all your souls right away. And then summons dragons equal to your souls/2.

Granted, that might be a lot of shit, so the dragons are only around 1/2 usual size and much simpler scriptwise. I also might put in a limit of, say, 5 dragons max or something. But being able to spawn an army of mini-dragons raining hell down one at a time could be a lot of fun.

The "chinks" are not covered by the cloak. You said back, and the cuirass completely protects the back. The gaps that are vulnerable in the back area, would be mainly the armpit, are not covered by the cloak. It would mainly be used to protect the unprotected butt area

Even then to protect against arrows it would need to be silk. And that doesn't nullify the arrow, it just helps in removing the arrow. The silk doesn't break so it makes it easier to remove the arrow from the hole it pierces into and protects from infection. The arrow will still go into the bodd, you can just pull on the silk cloth around the penetration to help remove it in one piece.

Also the cloth redirects is a bad argument because the armour is built to do that by design. That's why there are lips on the ends of armor and they are curved and not flat. If anything, an arrow catching on the cloth would transfer more force onto the wearer than if they were not wearing one at all. Instead of redirecting the force in a glancing action the force will be directed and pull on where the cloak is attacked to. If that's the neck, jarring the head area like that is not good.
