I've been running them for a while and actually getting them ranked up is quite a chore

But they're so broken at high ranks, I'm at the very end of the force levels and a Magus can always 100% Insanity Great Archons. I've Flawlessed Snare missions because I kept mind-controlling Archons. It's great.

The Alien Hunters mission isn't too hard, but dealing with the rules afterwards at that low a level is a nightmare. What tier weapons/items do I need to do Shen's mission and the alien hunter one?

This is commander
So right now I just got T2 rifles, pistols, mgs, and snipers. The second I got all of that I took on the black site with a 5 man crew. Won and now I have a 6 man crew about to go on a retaliation mission. I have the Alien hunter weapons but the nest mission hasn't come yet. Shen's mission has been scanned and is good to go whenever.

I don't have a proving grounds yet. I've won the game on commander with no DLC, but never commander with the DLC.
Also does implacable refund your last action? Like with my sniper he got implacable, when he killed someone with his pistol it looks like it gave him back a blue move but I might have used lightning hands

I run themed squads depending on whether I need a scalpel or a blunt tool.
High aoe damage/alpha strike abilities and mobility = my timer outrunning squad.

As far as we know,

Havent actually played it myself, so im going by what i red and looked up on it

actual ethereals are floaty jellyfish-like things that latch onto hosts, (in this case the player character); and they were seeded 1-on every habitable world by someone. Earths one was dormant until recent fuckery, and didnt realise that it wasnt the host, but a separate entity until lategame, where you can switch hosts. The invading ayys used an another etereal, (or the ethereal was controlling it all), to fuel a spaceship-mindcontrol-doomsday-device thingy that attacked us, hence the conflict in the game. after said ethereal was offed, the earth ethereal took control of the ship, used the invaders to clean up their mess, then detached from the host to do.. god knows what, and the EU theme starts playing

well, in EU there was a refenence on vahlen digging up old classified data, on one of the research results, but seeing how avatars work by the same principle (latching on hosts), and the presence of ghost elders imply that they work like that.

Also the presence of the ethereal reaching out/rettracting whenever the commander is de/reattached to the network, the one line by an ethereal urging the comms avatar to kill the other elders, during the final assault, and the fact that during the end struggle the other ethereals seem to not actually adress the commander, but one of their own gone rouge ("betrayer..." and the rest of that line) also implies that somone other than the commander was present and contributing.

My headcanon is that at the end of EW the Volunteer was sent back in time when the ship went all black hole.

An ethereal at the end of the game blabs about how you didn't fail and that XCOM won which doesn't make sense.

In the original timeline XCOM won and the Volunteer sacrificed themselves and were thrown back in time to the Temple ship before they even arrived on Earth.

Ethereals used that information to locate and destroy XCOM.


It's all a spiral timeline with the Ethereals running from the original XCOM series humans who started spreading into alternate realities destroying Ethereals

I actually had to save scum recently when an alien ruler showed up in the middle of me being pincered by two pods. It was a retaliation, the map was this complex web of boxcar buildings with little alleyways between them and shit. Getting a Berserker Queen in an alleyway with all your troopers while you're stuck between two active pods and your best soldier is a lieutenant was fucking hell. I fought it out for a few actions, but after she killed two people, I save scummed a few times to not get trapped like that anymore.

I actually joined an Arma realism group once, did a training night and was basically with a bunch of ex-military dudes taking it way too seriously and demanding strict adherence to military protocol. I got into the first mission and immediately quit when I didn't remember how to operate the complicated radio and didn't want to get yelled at, and never looked back. To further expand on the idea of >>183353090 and show the "might" of the Aliens / Advent, you could make it a series of rally points you must fall back to. At each rally point you have to clear contacts, or keep falling back. The quicker you break LOS for 2 full turns the quicker you can go into concealment and call for evac.

If you fail to break contact by 3rd rally point - GG. Could also add a timer that Firebrand can remain on station for added pressure / fuck you to the player.

I've never modded XCOM dunno how hard that would be to make. My modding experience is mostly art side and in simpler games.

the game isn't built around this kind of stealthy behavior, the mechanics don't support it. What you get in the end is a really frustrating experience that misses the mark. When LW2 was first released, there was a heavy focus on stealth, and it was frustrating for most people. The game is about killing ayys first, stealth is just a side part.

How do you expect the ai to work with that kind of mission? Is it going to just stop, or is it going to keep moving in the direction you were last seen? Is the detection radius going to be the same as normal or reduced? Are the ayys just going to stack up on each other, because their normal behavior is to spread out and they can create a situation where they block you from being able to get to a spot to evac. Breaking los for one turn is easy enough, but they are able to easily re-engage the next turn. Either you will have to make it too easy and people can just farm the reinforcements or you get LW2 levels of retarded reinforcements.

As far as stealth goes it's just really there as a condition of escape in this case. I'd want the reinforcements to be of sufficient quality that farming is not an option and escape is what youre after.

Not him, but the way i would do a mission like this in a really large map, imagine it divided in half, on one side there is a huge ayy armor, multiple sectopods, mutons instead of advent troopers, archons and andromedons. It's just a horror show, in the middle there is an allied force, resistance, templars, skirmishers, reapers, whatever, and on the other side of the map there is you, you have to complete an objective of some kind before the full might of the ayy forces crush your allies, because otherwise there will be multiple mutons and sectopods after your ass.

Maybe the objective or part of the objective is to stop Advent reinforcements from flanking your allies too.

I know it might be a longshot, but the Resistance Warfare Ranks mods might be messing with it since it is piggybacking of the perk pack and changing the ini in such a way that the shadow ops might conflict with.

Another thing I would do before doing the fresh install would be to get a save to a point that you can test for lag and disable everything but the shadow ops class,the LW perk pack, and ignore missing content mod and see if it still lags. If it does, you are going to have to do a complete fresh install of xcom2 as a whole. If it doesn't lag you have to start loading the mods 1 by 1 until you find the culprit. I know this might sound tedious, but it is the best way to find out what is causing the problem.

Can we talk about the Sustain Orb for a minute?

In case you hadn't heard, it's an item that's one-use like Overdrive Serum, but auto-triggers on soldier death, saving their life by putting them in stasis for a turn or two.

That's obviously really fucking useful; of course, the downside is it takes up an item slot. It'll probably take Priest corpses to manufacture too, but they look like they'll be showing up early on.

So, do you plan on using it at all? What's the maximum cost in supplies for you to consider its use? Which soldiers would you give it to?

I think it's almost a must for all my most expensive troops: leveled psiops, faction heroes, and maybe sparks. Especially the Templars (if they can't actually buy something similar with Ability points) since they won't have time to use grenades and won't benefit from special ammo.

Agreed, I like the struggle in their animations, really makes it look like they have to fight with their power since they don't have a psi-amp to make it easier (just their shard gauntlets which are ghetto amps doubling as melee weapons) but they manage it anyway.

Yeah, thye're psi abilities look great. Read on reddit a list of their confirmed powers. Like when they use their Rend (melee) they can either get 1 movement action after (whether or not if its a kill) or be able to use Parry which if you unlock in the skill tree can deflect attacks, so it's like untouchable. Also they have this skill which can swap position with either your teammate or the Advent and its not turn ending.

Well there's no full vid of it yet to my knowledge but it showed the break out scene and a bit of the warlock. Also showed a reaper passive which basically marks enemies they've seen so even if they're in the fog of war you can see them.

There's been a couple streams. The first was a scripted narrative mission. The second showed a new procedural mission that was kind of set up by the narrative mission, then started a fully procedural mission that crashed the game after a few turns.

So, assuming they pick up where they left off, there shouldn't be any spoilers in the next stream.
