might also depend on the player, but if you play wild with hwo vs someone familiar with him, you get punished and launched a lot for trying out wild stuff before getting much info, and these alone can lose you short sets. like, there's a lot of complaining about hwo here, but a fuckload of his stuff (strings in particular) is risky and/or not real. but if you play conservative, then you're playing a slow game in a short set, which is also not that great for the tournament setting.

Look, just find a launcher that works for you and then start experimenting. Thats what I do. Then you start throwing your custom comboes in matches. Then you start practicing the best comboes to use them.

Juggling is simply this game's versions of max damage combos. The same as jump in combos in SF and so on. If you can't learn your character's juggle combos, especially from WS punishes or whiff punishes, you're missing out on significant damage, especially if your character happens to play around conditioning and punishing / counter hits. This also results in you never pushing to the wall and gaining wall pressure and securing rounds, creating 50/50s, etc. You're essentially asking them to make 6 mistakes to lose instead of 2 because you choose to punish and damage for significantly less than what you should be doing.

overall, yes. not to say hwo doesn't whiff punish well or has to go to the wild stuff to do well, but it's just cutting a chunk of the character that makes him great in a longer set and as an overall character. but you make for that in being really smart on defense and movement in neutral, and luckily hwo has pretty good tools for those compared to previous versions of hwo.

he's a better tourney char now than he's ever been (which speaks volumes to how good maddogjin was back in tekken 5 and 6 in tournaments), but his weakness still shows especially from lesser hwo players who can be reliant on the wild stuff or who aren't so stellar on defense.

i think he's very hard to learn when you're playing to improve. i consider him my main and i still don't play him in tournaments because even though i practice him a lot and play him a lot, i still never feel like i'm at a good spot where i can beat someone with 100% solid hwoarang play. but i can do that with feng, shaheen, or even bryan.

but if you're looking for aggressive high damage because those are part of your strengths as a player, i think you should pick hwoarang immediately. i picked him up because i am a generally patient and defensive player, so hwo's ridiculous offense makes up for one of my weak points and i can shore up his weak points by playing him my style.

it's going to take a long time for me to be comfortable enough to play him in tournaments or it might never happen, but if you want to take hwo's strengths and bulldoze people, i think you should start now. either way, you will learn a lot, and i don't think you can ever hit a plateau with this character.

feng is like...paul but safer and less reward but also has access to two of the best whiff punishers in the game and some stance stuff and oki setups that are pretty interesting. he's a super versatile character i recommend to anyone. extremely good at playing basic and simple with lots of cool stuff for lab monsters. his damage from fast counter hit pokes is absurd because of the guaranteed hits you get from them and his combos with wall carry do like 55-60%. he's not so hard on execution, either.

i play steve and have trouble with almost everything except hit confirming and combo execution.

i don't know what my opponents characters full strings and lows are, so i'm always getting launched, ch, or chipped, i can't break throws even if i react to it because i don't know if they're 1 or 2 breaks, i have trouble getting off the ground even when going for safe options, i always get hit out of side steps, i almost always get hit with dickjabs when i go on the offense, or get hit with opponents wake up option, even if i'm trying to space far away from it, and just overall confidence in my pressure.

i'm pretty sure most of the things i have trouble with are experience related, so i can't do much other than keep playing.

i honestly don't have a good answer. playing Paul just never felt super enjoyable. like i said, i'll go back and take another look at him. maybe i was just getting matched up against people who didn't know how to fight Paul so I felt like I was winning because it was easier for me to pick up a simpler character like Paul than for the guy who has spent the same amount of time on the game but is trying to play Devil Jin or something so I felt like my good wins were kinda whatever.

You sound like me when I first started playing tekken. Steve is a character where u can't just pick up at level where u have no fundamentals.

He his very different as he doesn't have good generic lows, no fast launchers and is based around counterhits and small pokes.

Try Bryan he's easy, with a high skill ceiling, is a character that will teach u fundamentals and snake edge is always fun. He doesn't have a fast launcher like the rest of the cast (jet upper should be used to punish) but orbital goes a long way

I feel like rushdown just has me getting a reversal, power crush, one of her 20 million throws, a launch for free, whereas poking... has the exact same results.

Asuka has ok damage. She usually gets around 57-70 in juggles depending on the launcher and the move you use after the launcher

I think the most damage you can do in a juggle is off a CH ff1 > 4 > ff2,3 > 2, 1, 1+2 > ff2,1

But I haven't tried it yet because CH ff1 is super unreliable

Paul is borderline broken but he is what you've asked for being heavily reliant on yomi and rushdown. If he doesn't cut it I'd have recommended armor king but he's not in T7. You can try heihachi or Dragunov. They're both pretty offensive characters. Law is another great one and he's pretty hard to learn with all of his dss stuff. Miguel is an offense character as well with good pokes and ch launchers

The thing is you can't learn tekken fundamentals with him. It's VERY difficult because he is a character that is just strange for the reasons I mentioned before. He has stances, no fast launchers, moves that need to go into stance and be stance cancelled.
