As far as my experience with dota 2, dota 1 and heroes of newerth goes:
They are way better balanced/balancing is done more frequently.
Heck, back in dota 1 there sometimes were balance passes weekly/daily.
Gameplay offers both unranked/ranked modes, and ranked gameplay itself doesn't lead to everyone camping at the edges of the map.

All content that affects gameplay is either readily available, or is not stupidly expensive and not behind some bullshit flash sale/single lifetime opportunity (such as the mutant).

WoT is too slow for the average monkey. It is in fact a very slow-paced game that requires more strategy than "skill" (reaction time, aim and such things are largely irrelevant compared to reading the map, positioning, vision control etc.)

Don't worry about being red when you're new man. Your stats will improve as you learn the mechanics and concepts of the game, and when you know those you can put in effort to farm more damage to improve your stats.

Learn to angle your tank. If you can't pen something, look up weak spots at tanks.gg after the game. Get a good crew, 100% trained (you can start at 75% for anything up to T7), then get sixth sense on the commander. This will help you to know when you're spotted and when you are you have to assume people will have shots on you. It'll help you to learn the camo mechanic too, and you should also look up how vision works.

Reading the maps is a skill that comes with time. Looking for spots is basically "do I get shots here without being shot?" and also takes time to learn.
