Honestly, there are a ton of redpill themes in the game, but because it's Japanese, it's subtle. Particularly the story stuff involving Noel, Jin and Sector 7.

I'm not going to spend money on CF, can I get a rundown on how much of a trainwreck the story mode was?

It was pretty great, most characters had their story concluded and it left enough hooks for an eventual continuation of the story to work. The addition of Side Stories in chapters helped give some screen time to additional characters, characters like Bullet being given time to resolve their issues without taking up too much time or focus from other things. Had more than a few pretty emotional moments, I always hated Celica for example but her departure was handled really well.
The 2 biggest flaws is that they didn't really explain how the mindwipe worked at the end, and that Noel turned into an obnoxious needy bitch again when she had finally become a tolerable characters in CP.

Villains are defeated, Ragna deletes himself from existence and all character development that may have happened involving him is forgotten.
