If you go into the /hg/ parties that are up at those times you see everyone on different games and one or two people on Halo Wars 2 most of the time. Now that's not necessarily a Halo party more like a party of people who all happen to be in /hg/ but those parties are still full of the same people who show up regularly to Halo game nights.

Anyone up for a 1 v 1 tournament this Friday?

I know people were up for one before but it never got past the planning stage and has been delayed ever since. Figure I can try to arrange something since I want one to happen,

If you're interested, just reply to this post with your GT and I'll throw the names into a pot and start randomly generating the first round match-ups and brackets.

If you could also post the times you can make it on Friday (and over the weekend if Friday is not a possibility) that would be great. Please include timezone.

Ideally I'd like most of the matches to take place Friday evening/night, but if people who get matched up can't make it then matches can be arranged for the Saturday/Sunday as well.

Not really got anything in terms of a reward for the winner at this point, but I'll try and think of something. Or if anyone has any suggestions/contributions that would be great. But for now the incentive to join and win is just to prove you're the best in /hg/. Or have fun. Either one.

Hey Backup, I would say just have it this week. One of the problems with 1v1 things is they intimidate people. So if you delay it you will get the same problem.

I say just set a firm date on it this friday and see how many people you can get. It might only be a small number but you can think of it as a bit of a prototype tourny for a bigger one later on. Once people see it's not a big deal, you're more likely to have success later on.

I understand it's probably going to lose, but I stand by my belief that Assembly is better than Heretic.
Heretic highlights the same issues that Blackout has. Just because a map worked well in Halo 2 doesn't mean you can copy/paste it into Halo 3 and expect it to play as well. They are two different games with different movement physics and sandboxes. True, the newer remakes like blackout and Heretic may LOOK nicer, but they play far worse due to not being designed around the gameplay of the new game. Last Resort for instance works because the map size has been drastically changed to account for Halo 3's movement, vehicles, and weapons sandbox (as well as to make good use of deployable objects). Assembly is a spiritual syccessor to Midship and was designed with Halo 3 in mind, and as a result plays better than Heretic, which is a straight up remake.

Assembly has the misfortune of launching in the 1st mythic pack, along side Sandbox and Orbital. One of which people adore and one of which people despise. As a result Assembly is forgotten to time. It's a good map, but due to circumstances out of its control it's just not memerable enough to compete against a remake of a fan favorite Halo 2 map.
Looks like it put up a good fight though.

You can disable the ammo boxes. You don't get the SMGs and pistols that respawn after each round, but it's better than nothing.

Does anybody else remember when they were younger and didn't mentally map arena layouts? I can remember playing Guardian splitscreen and having a ton of fun because I was just running round killing people and exploring what was round the corner. I can also remember the exact moment I was playing Epitaph and suddenly understood the layout was a cross with two levels and a bunch of paths winding in/outside. Somehow the magic faded after that. Once I'd realised it, I couldn't stop "seeing" map layouts. It's like the world had suddenly gotten smaller.

Try visualizing Chiron TL34. I actually made a map using the blue prints featured in the loading screen for Chiron in the MCC. I find it really strange that you can detect motion through teleporters and the nav points for objectives measure distance between two rooms.

Personally I loved the part in the 3rd last mission in Halo 3 when two Scarabs dropped down at once. I was completely in that, "Shit just got real" feeling.

We were fighting our way to bring down the last Covenant leader and to stop the galactic scale doomsday device, it was so fitting to have and unprecedented two biggest enemies show up at once there.

Why the fuck does the Ark look so shit? Like, why does the cartogropher look nothing like the one we saw in H3? Why do they use the shit new style for architecture?

Also what was the point of any of the "villains" besides atriox? They literally added nothing to the story. Are they just there to pad out the teams in multiplayer?
