A lot of stuff, actually. The first game's great in a lot of different ways, from character design to story to atmosphere to gameplay to premise to setting. It's wonderful and I rate it as one of the best indie games and horror games of the 2010s. None of the other games manage to get everything right like the first one did, but they all have their strengths. 2 also had some strong character design, and in the early nights when things aren't so frantic the atmosphere is great. 3 kind of dropped the ball character-design-wise with the Phantoms, but Springtrap is a good animatronic, and him being Purple is great. Fazbear's Fright might just have the best atmosphere out of all of the games, as well, and the story of 3 is the only time Scott hasn't dropped the ball after 1. FNAF4 definitely has the most weaknesses out of all of them, but the added wrinkle of being forced to listen for the Nightmare bots really raises the tension higher than it's been in any other game, and as edgy as most of the designs are there are still some good ones. World is a great RPG, much better than a spinoff has any right to be. Even Sister Location, which rightfully gets a lot of hate, has plenty of positives. It has some of the best "moments" of the series, for instance. Crawling through Ballora's auditorium, listening to her music and the terror that comes when she walks across your field of view, or trying to fix the power while Funtime Freddy teleports around everywhere in a tense sequence supported by the flashing lights of sparking electricity, or the feeling of panic when BonBon goes missing when you're getting F. Freddy's chip, are all moments that are nearly as strong as things like seeing Foxy run down the hall, Freddy move for the first time, the Puppet leaving the box, and Springtrap waiting at the door. They all leave strong impressions on the player. Disregarding the cutscenes, custom night was a lot of fun, too.

I really enjoy most of the content made here, no matter how dumb or stupid it may be. The FNAF universe is ripe for OC, and nearly everyone here delivers. Plenty of good art is drawn, plenty of good stories are written, and other content like the occasional voicefaggotry, quest, or even Bev's game are a lot of fun. This thread's even a nice place to hang around in when there's not a shitstorm brewing or drama getting posted. On top of all that, I still enjoy the official FNAF content we get. I just gave my opinions on the games, and even though the books are shit they still have interesting concepts, even if they never actually deliver on them. I'm excited for the movie, I'm looking forward to more games, especially spinoffs because I feel like they offer more enjoyment than the admittedly shallow gameplay of the main FNAF games, and I'm hoping we get more official stuff like a FNAF comic or something. Also I really like making OC for this place, even though I haven't posted any in a while. This series and this general have stimulated my imagination and creativity more than anything else ever has, and the feeling of satisfaction that comes from even making something, let alone getting a positive reception to it, is really nice.

It really is weird. I've got some friends who work in game dev as a hobby or to make some money on the side, and they all have contacts and colleagues who they can rely on to help them out if they're having any problems. They'll do stuff like send code back and forth to each other to fix problems and streamline it, they'll critique assets, they'll even do a bit of bug testing if they've got the time and feel like it. The fact that Scott's been doing this for 15 years and has had 3 years years of being a multi-millionaire gamedev and still doesn't have any colleagues is astounding.

Because the first game was genuinely decent, and the content people create based off of the sequels are far more worthy of discussion and better at sustaining discussion than the sequels that are quite literally readit. No, it's pretty fair. The story is a major part of each game now, and takes precedent over the horror or gameplay. SL was mostly story and cutscenes, broken up by short gameplay segments. The scene on Night 4 is almost as long as the minireenas segment. Custom Night probably should've shipped with the actual game, as it's short as fuck without the RNG-based encounters like the Minireenas or Ennard's Private Room ending to pad things out.

So when I judge a story-based game based on it's story, I am not in the wrong

Not in the same "run from and hide from monsters" thing that EVERY GOD DAMN HORROR GAME DOES NOW but more like I guess FNAF-classic gameplay but sometimes you need to leave the office and try to reach another secure area to watch them. Like the under-desk in Sister Location but not a dumb minigame. Actually more like the premise leading up to the apparently noncanon ending to Sister Location where you do lock yourself in a room to avoid Ennards. That, where you need to give up territory to gain a new "base".

Or something, fuck me if I didn't expect to actually enjoy these games as much as I did, much less want more.

Note that the amount of story minigames and mandatory minigames increased between games. By 4 and SL, someone can watch a movie compilation of the cutscenes and get the same basic experience. Because reedit and youtube hooked onto FNAF for the same reason they hooked onto Undertale, DHMIS, ect. For the lore. And so Scott obliged.
What gameplay there is, it's shit. FNAF 1 was years ago. 2, 3, 4, and SL are all worse in the gameplay department in spite of the detailed models.

That's why what you'd want to do with a villain like this is make their outward motives understandable but portray their methods as utterly fucking heinous to the point of nullifying whatever positive aspects there were in their initial plight

A character who has goals with an ostensibly positive effect but is at their core a rotten person can be a compelling antagonist, and Honey would pretty much have to be made into a remorseless serial killer to offset her arguably just motivation which would be a clever parallel for Purple Guy in Snax's AU, actually

Alright, so in Snax's Burlesque story there was this guy who made animatronic burlesque girls, who made all the robots call him Daddy. It's already a bit creepy, but whatever. So, the first generation he makes are a Spring Bonnie named Honey and a Spring Freddy named Goldie. "Daddy" gives both of them free will, but also programs them to want to work for him. Honey, realizing how fucked up it is to give robots free will only to brainwash them, rebels and leaves, taking her "sister", Goldie with her. Goldie, unable to break the programming, attacks Honey and tries to escape to return to the burlesque parlor. Honey stops her, and finally manages to break her programming, but Goldie is essentially lobotomized in the process. Goldie gets put into storage, where some of the underlings that Honey hired wreck her.

This is the point where the story picks up. "Daddy" has made a second generation of robots, Snax's FNAF1 cast. They're all working happily in the parlor, having been programmed to. Things go well for a while, Mike gets hired as security, etc. Then, some guys hired by Honey break in to steal Goldie's schematics, because Honey desperately wants to fix her sister. Bonnie tries to stop them and somehow ends up kidnapped. Mike, the other animatronics, and Daddy go after them, armed with weapons, and there are implications that Daddy is planning on brainwashing Honey again. Snax, realizing that she had written herself into a corner, dropped her story soon after.

Springbon was pissed off that her friend and clone had been lobotomized into submissive sluts, so she kidnapped one of them and was trying to obtain the means to undo the programing. Or somethign liek that, it's hard to remeber it all.
Since the story revolved around the stripper bots and was told from their perspective, Snax painted Springbon as the badguy without realizing just how sympathetic her motives were.
That's why it's so infuriating to me. There were some legitimately intriguing ethical questions brought up in the story, but the whole thing was just supposed to be light self-insert fanfiction about cute sexy robots being cute and having sex.

I have to disagree with you about Honey, honestly, I think a villain can work when they're the hero in their own eyes but evil in everyone else's. I obviously didn't write the story or create the character, but I see Honey as someone who used to be genuinely good at heart and cared about her sister, but after the things that happened to her she's become so consumed by the desire for revenge, and so dead set in her convictions that all humans are cunts, that she's been corrupted from the inside out. Whatever altruistic intentions she started off with have slowly corroded over time until only this hateful husk remains, lashing out against everyone and everything, and even if she somehow achieved her goal it wouldn't change anything; she's too far gone

I find that captivating in a character, personally, because it could really happen to anyone

Just a quick reminder that the actual canon ending to Burlesque according to Snax was Mike punching Honey in the face and taking back Bonnie, the power of love and friendship prevailing, and Mike lying away at 3AM staring at his bedroom ceiling in a cold sweat 5 years later, rabbit waifu lying next to him after a night of passionate lovemaking, as he suddenly realizes just how fucked up the whole thing was/is.

If you need further proof of why I need a break, then look no further than MY own posts today. I've handled this situation very poorly. It's not the first thing I've handled badly here, and it won't be the last.
I love this community, and I hope that my actions, comments, and creations as a whole will speak louder than my words today.
You are all right. I needed to make a serious post a few days ago, but couldn't, because I'd made too many troll posts in the past. That led to people getting upset, confused, angry. It was my fault, and there was no easy way to fix it.
But regardless, for me to say that people who are unhappy here aren't real fans is just absurd and disingenuous. I, of all people, should know better than to accuse people who are simply critical of what I make, as being dishonest or being haters. If it weren't for criticism then FNaF wouldn't exist in the first place. I'm shocked that I let myself fall back into that way of thinking. It's a self destructive mindset.
And I lied. I can't move on from trying to make this community happy. I do want to make the community happy, to set things right, and to make something that everyone really enjoys. But first, I need you guys to forgive me.

A bit late, but that's not being fickle. You're implying that the thread's general distaste regarding the sequel/prequels was purely due to a shift in bandwagoning public opinion rather than a growing disillusionment with every new installment to the series.
Back in 2014 people loved Scott and the games because people enjoyed piecing together lore and discussing their own guesses and theories with each other. The vagueness and ambiguity that existed in FNAF 1made it seem like Scott was a clever writer who had a strong grasp of telling by omission and cryptic details. Even with FNAF 2's silly prequel plot twist, people still gave Scott the benefit of the doubt. FNAF 3 raised some questions but was overall well-accepted.
Really, I think the tipping point was FNAF 4 and the release of the book "The Silver Eyes", where the existence of another bite that put a big plothole that conflicted with older lore was a sign to many that Scott /didn't/ have this all planned out as he implied, and that he was making things up as he went along. The addition of SL which implied that the Purple Man was William Afton, who is a mad scientist/evil genius/CEO and was taking cues from the terrible books was what began the descent from curiosity and optimism into cynicism and a withdrawal into the worlds and universes that were inspired by the first three games.

Ghost kids aren't bad, conceptually.
But using that as an explanation for every antagonist in the series except William Afton and maybe Purple Guy gets old and boring. Does anyone else feel the same? If 6 did come out, it probably would've had another possession twist with the older brother from FNAF 4 being the focus, just as how Circus Baby and Afton's daughter were the big thing in SL. It's so predictable now.

Similarly, we're always expected to sympathize with them, which clashes with the horror genre. FNAF 1's different from the other games on this because it's the only one to actually depict the animatronics as horror characters.

Maybe I'm just grumpy. But it would've been much more preferable if the children had remained a background element, in favor of a stronger, less twist-reliant narrative for the sequels.

Afton's set up as the big bad guy in SL and 6, and Michael seems to believe he's "put her back together" even after getting scooped and hollowed out. Introducing Baby as a third party to the Michael vs William arc Scott seems to have set up would be too complicated for a hypothetical sixth game. It's more likely that she's the daughter. Additionally, the kidnapping programming only kicks in when the robots freeze up and go into a zombie state. I don't think the animatronics are aware of their abilities, really. You don't see any of them use it during their own sections, and Baby seemed confused.

I think it's more likely that Baby got ejected by the animatronics for being a controlling bitch, and then found her way back to Michael for 6. At least in the original outline, Scott's apparently starting from scratch when he goes back to it.

As far as putting her back together, the only other thing it could be other then Afton's daughter being put back together is that Baby tricked Michael into helping her and him thinking that in exchange he put her back together. Although if Baby becoming Ennard and wearing him like a skin suit is putting her back together then Michael is not all together there in the head.

I do agree with you about Baby being ejected though. Ballora and Baby were already at odds with each other before the Scooping happened. So I guess Ballora managed to convince Funtime Freddy and Funtime Foxy to help her get rid of Baby.
