so you have to get a master book in order to learn a level 30 recipe for making the glamour prisms. but the only way to use the master book is to be level 50 in that class. so you're seriously telling me that i have to hit level 50 in every single crafting class that i want to make gear for?

Glamour is unlocked AT level 50.
Crafting classes ALL work off of each other and you can have all of them on one character with absolutely no downsides.
In this game it doesn't exist to just level 1-3 crafters. If you want to craft, you're leveling ALL of them.

First of all, if you want to craft gear worth anything you should be level 50 in every crafting class ANYWAYS, to reap the cross-class ability benefits.

Secondly, yes you must get the master books to craft even the glamour prisms. However you can always buy the prisms off the market board, you don't have to be a crafter to be able to "transmog" your gear. Most people just buy the prisms anyways.

(You use a prism to show the appearance of the piece you want over the look of the piece youre wearing. You keep both pieces but you consume the prism.)

6k should be nothing to you then, if you know how to save/spend your gil.

And if you do end up spending the dozens (and dozens) of hours grinding crafts, you'll be making so much money you dont even have to make them yourself, you can just buy them anyways.

Some prisms dont even cost that much, but if thats too much for you to handle then choose what you want to glamour more wisely. Its been in the game since 2.1 and considering there used to be FIVE PRISMS PER TYPE OF ARMOUR/WEP INSTEAD OF ONE, its easier than ever.

Not really there are a few classes that are doing above average in PvP. DRK and MCH are really strong right now if you know how to play them right.

Any melee DPS is kinda meh atm. MNK and SAM essecially when it comes to large team fights.

Though you are right in saying that the balance is pretty good. Compared to most other MMOs out, XiV is likely the most balanced when it comes to PvP.

You can get them from doing A-Rank and S-Rank hunts in Stormblood zones, and you can get them from the Adventurer in Need bonus on the Leveling Roulette, as long as you're level 60 or higher (the latter is available as many times as you want to run it, not just once for a daily bonus).

I've had MCH at 70 for a few days now and I don't know how the fuck you guys play this class. There is SO much shit you have to be paying attention to. Keeping heat in check, making sure Hot Shot is up, reloading and quick reloading the second they're off CD, managing your procs, managing your OGCDs, making sure you fit everything into Wildfire, making fun sure to line up Overheat with Wildfire when Barrel Stabilizer is up. Fuck up the timing of one of these things and your Wildfires are fucked the rest of the fight. I can barely look up from my fucking bars to pay attention to mechanics. Jesus.

So I just healed my first trial roulette as Ast, and like a minute into the fight I was close to being oom, despite only using Benefic1 and dpsing.

Hien's dad's name was Kaien, which is how you're supposed to pronounce Cyan, and Hien's mom was named Mira, and Hien's childhood nickname was Shun, which are the name of Cyan's wife/son in the Japanese version of FF6.

I thought that was kind of a cool way to make that reference, because Hien being Kaien/Cyan's son kind of acknowledges that FFXIV is a successor to the older FF titles.


Also the post-credits scene with Gotetsu and Yotsuyu waking up on that island is a reference to Celes waking up with Cid on an island in the World of Ruin, right down to Gotetsu having to run out to the beach to catch fish to nurse her back to health.

well, the first raid tier this expansion is FF5 themed. also some heavy FF6 references around.

you can play the trial as long as you want, it's capped at level 35 though, with gil/chat restrictions. just to see if you like the game at least. the game is slower paced than WoW combat wise. that's offputting to some people. it's also heavily quest/dialog driven in comparison.

I am not sure it is possible to run out of MP in the first minute of a trial if you used Lucid Dreaming and gave yourself at least one Ewer. If you actually ran out like 2.5 or 3 minutes in (and it just seemed like a minute to you), you've got to remember to be diligent about using Lucid Dreaming and extending it with CO where you can. Also I don't know what level trial it was or what sort of gear you were wearing but you need Piety. People like to talk about how AST has great MP management but I think it's a bit diminished now and really imo you could never function properly with a 3.X scholar gearset with 450-500 piety, esp if you're spending a lot of gcds dpsing. And let your regens tick if you're Diurnal. If you get scared and throw out a bunch of gcd heals after you put a regen on someone you're wasting MP and GCDs-- unless you're sure they're going to take lethal damage unless completely topped off in the next few secs
