I'm almost 100% sure that the winter lantern, in lore, comes from the enlarged head patients in the church laboratory.

both the choir and the school of mensis are derived from the church, the laboratory seems to be a time before the schism between the two occurred. the engorged head patients being early attempts to put "eyes on the inside". one group wanted to create celestial emissaries, one group got obsessed with "eyes on the inside" and left us with winter lanterns.

No, just having the Root Chalice is enough. What you do need to do however, is create your own Root Chalice with all three offerings. Doing so will allow you search all Root Dungeon FRC glyphs.

No problem. It's easier to just wait until you've finished all the story Chalices Dungeons (Pthumeru -> Central Pthumeru -> Lower Pthumeru -> Ailing Loran -> Cursed and Defiled -> Lower Loran -> Isz Gravestone -> Pthumeru Iyhll

Doing all these will net you enough Offerings to make a single FRC Dungeon. I recommend either doing any of the three endgame Chalices (Loran/Isz/Ihyll), once you create your own FRC Dungeon every Dungeon is open to you as long as you have the Root Chalice.

I fucking love the wheel but the hmls is doing nothing for me. But, wheel works just fine on a str build. So unless Kos parasite turns out to be fucking amazing, I'm just farming conversion gems over heavy abyssals.
Seems a waste of time and a lot of frustration for one weapon, even if kos parasite turns out to be my favorite weapon ever.

Playing Arcane fosters bad habits. I've been doing bosses in one shot thanks to Flamesprayer, Executioner Gloves, and A Call Beyond but then I got to fucking Logarius. Everything I have just tickles him. Ended up having to relearn how to parry which I haven't done since Gascoigne. I think I used up more than 100 vials throwing myself at him over and over. No PS+ is suffering.

Quick, anons. I've went through most of the regular game (at mergo's now) with 35 vit 35 skill. Still got final bosses, whole dlc, chalice dungeons and cainhurst to do. I'm hesistant to go 50 skill (though i own BoM) and want to mix it with bloodtinge or arcane instead to try new things.

What should I pick? Am I better off starting a new character than going though NG+? Levelling will be a cake, but getting the equipment won't. I'm not interested in PvP much.

I can only play the game while I'm staying at my uncle's place for vacation, so I probably won't have time to beat it 3 times and have to make these two worthwhile.

Aim for 40-50 Vit, if you really like BoM or other Skill weapons then definitely aim for 50 Skill. If you don't plan on PvPing, then it doesn't really matter what else you level. Skl/Arc isn't very common since there isn't any Skl/Arc weapons (the Arc on BoM and Burial Blade is negligible). So I guess go for 50 Blt if you don't care about meta level. 15/18/20 Arc is useful for non-damaging Tools too.

Hunter Tools do okay damage at 50, but if you want to get more out of them then you'll have to go 70+. Most enemies aren't resistant to Blood damage, so you can stick to 50 Blt and use Bowblade arrows instead. Most Hunter Tools only do Arcane damage, Tiny Tonitrus does Bolt but is pretty mediocre and uses lots of bullets.

I'm not the most knowledgeable gent on this topic, but I reckon the hunt happens only on special occasions, according to what closed-in inhabitants say (and why they aren't asleep at night).

The scourge might been around since forever (it's implied that it's inherent to human nature), but only started to manifest after umbilical cord weilders started bothering the Great Ones. That's about when the men with knowledge part ways. The worst happens either when the Mensis Ritual draws to an end, or when you remove Rom, who could've kept it in check. Oedon doesn't normally splooge in anyone, and that's why queen Yharnam was oh so special.

Gehrman wasn't so tired of the dream back then, when he had less graves in there. Mergo's wet nurse wasn't there or was unreacheable prior to last events, but Mergo was there alright. I think the game progression implies that either Micolash or Mergo caused everything to go to shit this night. Hunters typically saw the same dream, carried some marks for Gehrman and either died like Eileen (if that's even possible), went to some nightmare purgatory like in dlc, or woke up feeling it was all just a dream like one of the endings.

Having seen the secret insight-based plot of the game, I now doubt blood has much to do with anything story-related.

As far as game progression? MP is responsible for the dream, Gehrman, the doll, probably the messengers, basically everything on the Good Hunter's side of things. It being revealed only at the end is just for dramatic effect and hype reveal. And it keeps the game truly Lovecraftian; when you reach the end of the game and you think you have a devent grasp on the circumstances of the hunt, your entire understanding gets flipped on its head when MP reveals itself

CLERIC BEAST- 8/10 fantastic theme, teaches you dodging and rally well but the area can mess with the camera if you lock on, and he is far too easy on an arc build
FATHER GASCOIGNE - 9/10 another great ost, which matches the feeling of the fight perfectly, teaches the player spacing, positioning, parrying, and use of geography. only real downside is that the player may get stuck on the gravestones a bit too easily dodging around him in phase 3 contrary to popular belief, he doesnt input read at all. i tested it and it seems like he will alway follow up with an attack that will catch the player if they panic roll, and starts the attack even if they dont
BSB- 4/10 good music, but the fight itself can either be a chore of a pushover depending on your build. minus points also for him clipping through the walls and pillars whenever he moves too fast, and for the reliance on antidotes unless you kill phase 3 very fast
AMELIA- 5/10 borrows cleric theme, which works but is a bit lazy imo. fight is trivial on any character using bbp and a saw due to the ease of stunlocking, and can be incredibly hard if the player cannot out dps the heal. this said, its a fun fight with a variety of attacks and dodge timings
HEMWICK 1/10 boring fight that is painfully easy, forgettable theme and pointless roaming enemies that will hardly ever actually attack you
PAARL- 5/10 nice theme, cool concept of the boss becoming stronger after you stagger it but opening the chance to stagger it again. camera is almost useless locked on and again bbp makes it far too easy
LOGARIUS- 6/10 fun fight with a variety of attacks and dodge timings, nice theme as well. Can be annoying if he keeps backing up, and a bit brutal if he glitches and buffs through the backstab or keeps using the planted sword attacks

The Great One may be synonym for "I have no fucking idea what that is, but it's cool". Kin is surely a myconid/gray alien race. Not sure about Amygdala, having multiples of them is the most weird part about the lore imo. I think for them the dream is reality as well, so that one might have died for good. They also seem to have red blood in their veins, which is absolutely weird, but are still called legit Great Ones. Patches refers to one of them, though I'm not sure if in singular or plural, and sees it as a godly being. They also behave like they somehow guard the Yahargul, or even serve the inhabitants, instead of just being drawn to the ritual.

Why does Gehrman bails you out of Iosefka's? Would you become one of the experiments if not for him? If it's blood ministration that makes you a capable hunter, why aren't other poor shmucks spared?

AMYGDALA- 6/10 cool theme, concept and design but painfully easy on a skill build or anything with an overhead weapon with cheesing, and phase 3 is almost too much of a step up in difficulty from the rest of the fight with far more range, damage, and shorter punish windows

SHADOWS 4/10 forgettable theme, and massively favors characters with faster weapons. Nice enough concept of splitting phases by hp and not number of shadows left, but can lead to annoying situations if too much damage was done to multiple shadows. Gank nature of the fight almost forces the player to abuse the large tombstone, which then leads to a long fight, punctuated with the shadows reaching straight through it from time to time
ROM- 6/10 good theme, really cool arena and lore. Nice how the fight can be approached different ways depending on how good your dps/stagger is. Suffers from the limited moveset, and the spiders are mainly an inconvenience than a threat, until you get 1shot by a head slam
ONE REBORN 3/10 far too easy on any vitgouge build or weapon with good rally, and far too punishing on low vit build to to the amount of damage sources, requiring the player to spend the first minute killing maidens every time, not to mention the long run to the boss, during which snipers will often cost you vials
MICOLASH- 6/10 unique bossfight with nice, very fitting theme. Great lore and dialogue during, but suffers from lack of damage until he uses ACB, which can be a bit harsh if he uses it repeatedly after backing into a corner
WET NURSE 3/10 nice music and design, but not much of a challenge at all, until she uses nightmare, which pretty much puts the fight on hold for a solid minute. Very annoying in ng+ cycles where she may use it multiple times
EMMISSARY 3/10 ok theme and nice concept, but far too easy. Remains the only boss in the story that I have never died to despite thousands of hours and probably around 30 playthroughs on various ng cycles

EBRIETAS 8/10 great fitting theme and amazing design, wide range of attacks and dodge timings, cool arena. Only real complaint is that the charge can be very hard to dodge at close range, and the swoop slam is almost impossible to move out of the way of, and therefore must be iframed every time
GHERMAN 10/10 amazing music, lore, and setting. Varied moveset and fighting style as he goes through phases. Can be cheesed from range or parried a bit easily, but not enough to dock a point
MOON PRESENCE 6/10 nice music and really cool design. Has some very unique and cool attacks, but the fight is painfully easy. Its pretty clear to me that originally you were only supposed to have one chance to kill it, but that this was removed, but i feel that this would have made the fight a lot more tense and better overall. Using this feature, or just giving it 70% more hp would make a much better fight

DLC
LUDWIG- 10/10 fantastic theme, lore, dialogue, moveset, and arena. Almost two completely different but individually great fights in one. Wide variety of attacks, looks amazing to fight, and will always be a good challenge even if you know the moveset
FAILURES 6/10 absoulety incredible music, which in most cases syncs with the moveset. A bit too much on a build using a weapon like the wheel due to the sheer amount of hp and resistances, moveset is fine but a bit lacking, and the fight is far too easy with parries/backtabs
MARIA 7/10 great music, which is best in phase 1, then becomes more disjunct as the fight goes on to mirror the change in moveset. Probably the widest movest of any boss, with a lot of different timings. Phase 3 seems a bit to hard compared to the rest of the fight, and lingering fire can often be annoying. Certain attacks like the charged blast and sweep in phase 2 and 3 are very hard to dodge, and almost require trial and error to dodge due to the incredibly fast startup of the damage frames. Too easy in ng and with parries

ORPHAN OF KOS_ 10/10- great music, arena, and lore. Moveset is wide ranging and incredibly punishing of the slightest player panic or error, forcing them to learn and get better at the game.
LAURENCE 8/10 imo the best theme in the game, and really cool lore. Phase 1 is just cleric beast with fire, and although this is a cool moveset it seems a bit lazy. Phase 2 is great in terms of moveset, but can be a bit too punishing with rollcatches in ng+, and although phase 3 is a really cool design, the tracking on some of the attacks is too high, and the crawl attack is almost unpunishable depending on your position when it starts

CHALICE BOSSES
SCYTHE GIANT- 4/10 boring moveset with two far to strong attacks, the leap and kick, which will almost always instakill despite being quicker than the rest of the moveset
CANNON GIANT 2/10 same issue, but add to this the instakill cannon shot at his feet, with no startup noise and almost no visual indication
CHAIN GIANT - 3/10 lacking the leap and cannon, but instead with the massive range of the chains on every attack, which can kill the player after the attack ends due to them flailing with the physics engine after the attack ends
WATCHERS 3/10 boring fight that forces the player to either parry spam or abuse the arena to not get staggered every 2 seconds by shotty
HOTDOG- 7/10 cool theme and moveset, turns the fight into a series of baits by the player, and really teaches playing unlocked. Nice touches like how the boss staggers when hit in the legs during the start of certain attacks add nice detail as well
BPS- 4/10 fairly standard pve encounter, can stunlock 100-0 if it switches target during a combo, and is too easy to parry

BLB- 6/10 nice moveset and theme, and some clearly well thought out attacks like the between the legs grab. Lack of range on big attacks makes him a fun fight as its never really a threat
HBLB- 4/10 same as above, but with longer range and faster attacks, and without the clever attacks, somehow has worse hitboxes despite literally being a clone
AMYGDALA- 6/10 same as story amy but too easily cheesed due to either the ranged or visceral damage the player will have by the time they fight it.
BOAR- 2/10 boring fight of head slam baiting or repeated fisting, hits incredibly hard on every attack and can start its charge with literally one startup frame before damage frames start, which will almost always instakill
BRAINSUCKER- 1/10 boring fight too easily cheesed, and capable of stealing literally the most valuable resource in the game with no way to get it back
MADMAN- 5/10 fairly standard hunter fight with a nice concept, and in an arena that benefits the player. Too easy with range, parries, or shaman bones
BSB - 5/10 same as story bsb, but benefits slightly from increased hp and the abundance of antidotes to the player

He's very good at punishing heals and greedy hits. Dodge foward+left for most of his attacks, get 1-3 hits depending on the attack and how fast yours are, then dodge back to avoid getting slapped and repeat. Never heal more than once consecutively, same goes for blood-bulleting.

This coupled with his aggressiveness makes it so he completely dictates the battle.

For a standard Str build, a Heavy Abyssal from HBLB and two 32.6% Blunt Adepts from Watchers (very rare). You cab settle with just two 27.2% gems until you get the Blunts. Glyphs are in the OP.
