This. In DR1, he's basically a non-character that serves completely as an insert for the player character to experience the wacky SHSLs. Which is fine, because the "SHSL Hope" title he gets at the end anyway comes as over the top and not all that serious.

It's when they try to make him into a serious character in his own right that he falls flat, and because they established him with that ridiculous title, suddenly the world bends around him. To the point where logic (he really should be punished for harboring terrorists based on personal connections to him) goes out the window in favor of blind optimism and sticking to the status quo. He's one of my least favorite DR characters overall because of that.

I think that certain characters shouldn't necessarily fight for themselves. Not EVERY character can have a moveset, sadly, but I'd like if they were represented, somehow.
Like, say if Togami and Kuzuryuu sent out Sho and Peko; the two girls (in this case) would attack, while Toges and Kuzu "commanded" them from the background. The boys' models would react to the girls getting hit (with varying concern), and fall down if their fighter was defeated.
I guess the same would go for Aoi and Sakura, but Aoi would be their More to cheer Sakura on than command her.
I think some trios as one unit would be interesting, but maybe complicated and busy.
A unit of Sonia, Souda, and Gundham, with Sonia "controlling" and the two boys attacking based on different buttons inputs, would be neat. (Gundham might be unique/popular enough to get a standalone character, though, but I suppose Sonia controlling Souda is still viable)
The same system goes for Chihiro, Mondo, and Ishimaru, with Alter Ego showing up for the finisher.

Well, I would imagine they would pick costumes of characters that appeared in other clothing or just colorizations.
Example, Fukawa could have her DR1 appearance or DRAE appearance.
Kuzuryuu could have his normal appearance, his official art appearance and/or his DR3 appearances (both school uniform and SHSL Despair getup) etc etc. V3 characters could all have their normie clothes even.
