NU FTD UPDATE, ALPHA v2.0
Also know as: wow, it's fucking nothing
Probably it's just updating for the people who aren't in devtest. Those people should have heavy turrets and all that now.
>>181624213
According to the changelog, v1.0 was 1st Jan 2014 and v2.0 has been today 4th July 2017.
I hope the next thing in their priority list is fixing this weird trippy crap that happens when you go far away from the spawn point, because you can't even drive in a straight line if your wheels have the mechanical equivalent of parkinson

You first, anon, because whichever way you're implying to use raycasting is shite. If we're talking about combat between two competent ships, ideally they would have multiple crew members, and ideally they would both have taken to scripting. Even if if was just 1-on-1 against someone without scripts, anyone worth their salt wouldn't even consider stopping to take single-turret pot-shots at a target well out of their effective range, and an effective pilot should be able to line up main fixed weapons without just flying in a straight line at the target.
Even then, at range, dumb-fire weapons are garbage in a fight against anyone actually utilizing the tools available to them for combat.
And then, all of this is presuming that whatever you're firing doesn't despawn before it even gets to your target.
I reiterate: Any dumbfire weapon that has travel time is ineffective against active long-range targets, you're far better off printing PGMs.
>>181663665
>I reiterate: Any dumbfire weapon that has travel time is ineffective against active long-range targets, you're far better off printing PGMs.
Yet the USN surface fleet seemed to fare just fine and they work perfectly fine in CHoDE.
This is also under the assumption that your opponent has CIWS and not all of your missiles are going to get through. The idea that NO shells from NO amount of volleys from three or four triples however is asinine. That requires near clairvoyance of maneuvering. Any lapse in course changes for even a second would give an opening for the enemy FCS to deliver a solution.

>>181665497
Also that's a pretty small missile, it seems like one you'd use as an AA weapon or mount as terminal defense.
>>181664141
You're not going to do any significant damage with a few shells in Spengies, the game that this entire discussion on weapon types is referring to, unless you're using some of the retardedly OP guns, at which point you and your opponent are probably also shielded.
Unless you are bearing down with immense firepower, producing a significantly thick wall to cover the entire area of wherever your target can move to in the time it takes your wall to get there, and dumping bullets like they're going out of business, you're not going to do any lasting damage.
>>181664834
Area denial between them and you, flak, and playing for CLANG's blessing. Hopefully you have something to detect the threat fairly early, otherwise you're boned.
If scripted flak turrets can't damage the missile enough to stop it, you might be able to throw a cloud of warheads in its path and detonate them as it comes through.
Standard turret AI is way too basic to handle advanced warfare.
>>181665763
>You're not going to do any significant damage with a few shells in Spengies
In a couple of seconds no, but over a five to ten minute slugfest it'll absolutely do appreciable damage.
>>181666002
If you have a ridiculously heavily armed ship and enough ammunition for sustained fire for that long, sure. By all means, you'll annihilate your target, anything in the firing cone, the ammunition market, and the simspeed if the size of your ship hasn't already done that. >>181669554
I was referring to the maximum amount of change in its velocity based on its mass and thrust arrangement. Is you want to break this down into how this can be called 'potential', then we're talking about the chemical (electrical?) potential energy of the thrusters. And of course kinematics is anything at all to do with motion.

Yes you can you, it just causes you to go back in timewhich may or may not fracture things because no one really understand yet as to the intricacies of why probability waveforms do as they do.
It's all theoretical of course, you'd need an artificially created particle that goes faster than light to naturally go faster than light.

You can reach C, but only with a zero rest mass. Einstein eqs have certain solutions that allow connections between distant points in space but they have no been observed physically yet. kinematic (movement) potential (gee I wonder)
How hard is it to understand that this was supposed to mean how much something can move?
>>181671347
Also, this is just the current models. Maybe someone will look at reality in a diferent way that allows us to go faster than c. And some engishits will build it.
>>181671463What would the correct term be for the concept of "center of thrust," then?
>>181671347
Do you not understand why c is the limit?
It's because it fucks with time and space.
Going faster than C causes time to go backwards for lack of better wording which is why it's impossible to ever test it, even if a tachyon were created.
The fact that no one is actually properly sure what the fuck causes probability waveforms to stabilize into reality makes it all the more confusing.
>>181671724

>>181671537
>How much something can move
Everything up to and under light speed in every direction possible.
There you go, that's the 'kinematic potential' of everything in existence, because kinematics specifically ignores outside forces until you add them into the equations, at which point the future movement is the current kinematics of the object, so no longer 'potential'.
Just go fucking reading about kinematics for crying out loud, and you'll see why it's useless for the original silly bullshit this all started from.

That's debatable. I mostly get assists rather than kills since I can't deal any significant damage without the 57mm cannon combo, and people love shooting them off with their auto-cannons and rocket launcher spamming since they're close together. Somehow Gaijoob thinks its perfectly fine putting newbies to fight vets, and I have no means of getting generators to spam good weapons yet since I'm still starting out, so despite all the armor, I've been killed by said weapons + Cloack and Spear 1-hit kill combo more times than I can count today.
I put armor around the wheels since explosive splash damage were destroying them all the time, and they really started lasting longer, but I still get fucked no matter the range by people with 3 generators + tons of guns on them. And I'm poor as hell since I can't sell good parts yet for shekels.
I'm considering uninstalling for now until Gaijoob gets this game on its tracks.
>>181672185
This is a hard as fuck thing to explain goddammit because time dilation is a nightmare to explain while exhausted.
I forget what analogy I used the last time /egg/ had this discussion.
Basically time gets fatter and fatter the closer you get to C and if you were to pass it relative to another object the speed of your time would be so fat it would be going backwards.
It's all the same equations that work for normal time and shit so that's how they know its the case, if it's not true then the equations for how regular time works needs reworking as well.
>>181672636
>And I'm poor as hell since I can't sell good parts for shekels to buy decent parts yet.

>>181671781
nigger I don't need pop sci youtube videos,I just study what you are talking about.
>it's theoretical
>you just need infinite energy, imaginary mass and undertand the physical consequences of a imaginary lorentz factor
So it isn't theoretical, it is impossible by how we understand things. Alcubierre drive does **not** goes past c. Just as a wormhole (Which is actually possible under the space time equations) does not, even though you could go from a to b instantly.
>It's all the same equations that work for normal time and shit so that's how they know its the case, if it's not true then the equations for how regular time works needs reworking as well.
>they

>normal time equations
Which? The time dilation thing is very simple. You just add a factor to the speed, the problem is when you go past c the factor is a imaginary number, what does that mean physically? Who the fuck knows. Jesus christ people nothing stops you from taking a entry level book like halliday and skimming it up a little before talking shit on south american boat making forums.

At the start, just before the guys who are about to die for their lady waifus, there are some stairs with a guard going up and down, in the lower part of it you can climb the couch and then over the wooden beams (rope-vine also works), and you need to break some planks and you find the same sunburst from return to the cathedral, i think it was ment to be used in the armory that its near the angelwatch, since the key its inside the tower.

Nothing can escape a LIDAR scan.
Use the camera raycast, and can detect anything at render range, unless you are behind 7 roids.
Takes time, depending on the camera array and settings, but it gives coordinates of everything they see and paste it on a LCD, you can adjust how wide or how long will do the scan, making you able to track ships, so not even moving shit can escape from being triangulated, and eventually hit by something like this.

Probably the fastest way to get starting money is to make an extremely low PS TOW growl build with fuel and fuel+ tank and farm fuel. TOW 1hits low PS cars easily
Then you move on to market manipulation. Insider trading is good, talk to a developer and learn what modules will be nerfed or buffed next patch, use this info to make bank. Or, if you have a lot of money, buy out all the stock of a relatively low volume but still essential item (like some kind of wheel) and get a monopoly on it, then resell it at your jacked up price, buying any sell orders that are below that price. Like I said you need deep pockets for that to work, but it makes insane money.

Query, since with "rocket engines" you most likely include the nozzle, how does one calculate the speed of sound of a chemical mixture? I remember such number being important in designing the "choke" of the nozzle since it will compress the gas till it reaches it's maximum speed (and thus making the engine more efficient).
Also, how is the nozzle's geometry then calculated once you know the speed of sound of the gas mixture?

>>181770624
Importing an obj file from any cad software into any engine, say, unity for example, will skullfuck the scale of the object in question. Say you want to have a set of gears that mesh together with a contraption the player can build, so the gears are at scale '1', and the contraption base is also at scale '1'.
You'll then need to do some napkin math for every individual object that is differently sized, because then all the objects are litterally the same size based on the physical bounds, which is then further fucked if you attempt to scale it in the scene.
Fun fun stuff. Not world ending, just irritating.

1. Trying to use them at machine gun ranges like a retard

How to fix crossout
1. Remove flying drones
>hurr durr just kill the drones and then the car noob
They're still bad gameplay m8
2. Improve the netcode of the guided missile, so it doesn't spaz around being impossible to hit or predict.
3. Make it so you have to drive over your stationary drones to get them back in your car. This would add at least SOME gameplay/strategy to them
4. Generally faster cars at any given weight
5. Purple autocanon and shotgun needs to be buffed or have their PS lowered. They're useless now and nobody uses them
>>181831727
>1. Remove flying drones
Wouldn't it be better if instead of autoaiming the cabin, they'd target weapons first, then wheels, then fuel/ammo/radars/whatever and then finally the cabin?

>>181832256
It's similar to stationary drones, you only change the order of actions. Instead of pressing a button and driving randomly, you drive randomly and press a button, and then the stationary drones start shooting.
Or with TOWs: you sit back, shoot, aim a bit the missile and blow some tard to pieces. Then you run around a bit (or not) until it reloads, and shoot again. As with drones, it requires zero skills.
>>181832327
tested
>>181832558
That's why i had a suggested change for stationary drones too. If you have to pick them up again, you can't just drive and place them randomly like people do now.
The reason TOW require no skills is because of what I already said too.

>>181832869
What happens if the turrets explode? do you still have to drive back to where you put them? I don't see how this makes things any better anyway.
I use turrets all the time. The thing is you gotta be fast, so you can run away. Otherwise you just get blown the fuck up.
In order to go fast, you have to keep your vehicle light. This means you need less armour, so you have a lower health pool thingy. A cannon guy fucks you up, a shotgun buggy fucks you up, active melee fucks you up (they can just drive over the turrets). Heck, even hatchets can blow turrets up if you're going a half decent speed.
Dropping turrets, circling around while the enemy shoots them, and speeding into their wheels and running awayhonking like a maniacis pretty fun.
>>181832558
>requires zero skills
What does require skill then? The way I look at it, everything just requires different tactics.
>>181832256

>>181848857
aw shit mate, it doesn't matter how many combos are dead ends, the real deal is in how many paths lead where.
As you correctly shown, in this scenario there are four types of males and five types of females, totalling at 9 (since both pairs can be arranged in three ways)
Males are XYVV, XYVZ, YYVZ (kaput) and YYVV (kaput too)
Females are XXZZ, XXVV, XXVZ, XYZZ and YYZZ (kaput)
The thing you're probably not seeing right, is that out of eight possible mating scenarios, the only way to arrive at dead end is to have female4 mate with any male, because this is only way the kid has chance to receive Y from both father and mother. Also YYVV would be impossible due to need for two parents with at least one Y and V, aka males, akaprobablyno vagoo
So in order to have real insight on how many grills and dudes would be here I did eight Punnett squares for each possible mating scenario, and I arrived to conclusion that male1 would have mainly male2 sons, and mainly female3 daughters.
Male2 would have mainly male2 sons and mainly female3 daughters.
Female3 has equal split of female2&3 and male1&2 if mates with male1, and strong bias towards females AND towards children retaining parents type if mates with male2

Rule #1 of using two-way tracks is to ensure that a train never stops in a two-way section. Which means placing a (normal) rail signal on the "exit" track from a fork and a chain signal on the "entry" track. No signals are placed within the two-way section. IOW, the entire two-way track is considered a junction.
If there's space, you can place additional rail signals within the loops. That will increase the number of trains which can run on that network. If that isn't enough, you'll need to add passing places into the main track (i.e. split the two-way track into two one-way tracks).
Or you could just not use two-way tracks. Rail is cheap.

Problem with soy is that it reduces your testosterone, which turns men into traps. Okay for women, I guess.
Its intended to ""supplement"" your meals, (read: not every day because it causes health problems) but people running around making internet content aren't exactly blessed with a whole lot of free time so some of them drink these primarily for sustenance, causing a whole host of hormonal issues. What's the point of using three questions marks, one does the same job more efficiently?
Light engine is for light weight speedyness. Powerful engine is for pushing your teammates around while going half the speed.

Notice how the maximum mass number is higher with the powerful engine. BUT! the engine speed bar thing on the light engine is higher. Finally, the power bar is higher on the powerful engine. (who would have guessed)
Do you think you can puzzle out the implications of these differences? All this stuff can be figured out in a minute or two tinkering and test driving.

There is little activity about spengies because of the little activity on the development front. Remember last 5 weeks have been minor bugfixes for the multithread thing, and before that another 6 weeks of fixes. Guess that's part of the beta experience.
Otherwise there's Skywankers, the upcoming flavor. Like Starmade but new and O'Neill cylinders

Its pollution. I turn it off now and it doesn't impact difficulty if you set biters to high everything. Pollution is shit mechanic and even a little fucks with UPS and it gets worse if you use concrete because that has 0 pollution absorption so it just spreads over the surface and inflates the calculations needed when it hits non-concrete. Same thing with non solar power, solar power is calculated in one big chunk no matter how many panels, non solar power sources are all calculated individually , each boiler, each generator .

OPEN
>>181955595
what was the problem?
>>181967654
I fixed it now, didn't know how to use a global variable inside a function (global variables are used so a player can go back to a scene and get a different flavor text if they already completed something like opening a door or picking up an item).
>>181967886
>global variables
I seriously hope you guys don't instantiate thisThough honestly, doing it right is a giant fucking pain in the ass and nobody cares enough to bother
>>181968558
I heard you're really not supposed to screw around with global variables, but I can't think of any way to make a non-linear game where the player can backtrack and solve problems with items from multiple rooms without using global variables, or at least a global list as an inventory. The list does actually sound like it'd greatly reduce the line count, I should probably switch to that.
>>181964419
Gonna be honest, Skywanderers looks amazing so far. The guy is definitely dedicated and even competent, which is a nice change of pace.
>>181969176

>>181970074
I would keep a record of each room as a separate class / object and keep the text file locations and visit counter in theretext file locations, because I assume you are not hardcoding the fluff

>>181970357
Don't assume such a high level of competence, I've only been learning for 2 months and that's all been structured exercises rather than real-world problem solving.
>>181970593
they're different concepts. if you want to bundle things together like that you should at least go full autist and shill for functional programming
>>181969176
>I heard you're really not supposed to screw around with global variables
It's related to data handling. The idea is that a given object, method, function, etc should only have access to what it needs to, and only be able to write to things inside itself.
One example is if you're writing code for a self-driving car. You've got three main things going on: The speedometer uses sensors in the wheel and underbelly to determine the car's current speed, the interface module uses the current speed, GPS, and a street map to tell the passenger how long it'll be, the pathfinding module uses the current speed and radar map to decide when to turn.
If you just make "current speed" a global variable, it means that the interface could change the value of current speed. It shouldn't, of course, even TRY to do so, but you're not the guy writing that code and you think that Bob, who is, is a gibbering retard. If you used a global variable, then that fuckwit Bob could kill everyone when his shit code changes "current speed" and then the pathfinding code has garbage to work with.

>>181970817
oh my fucking god
ok listen, this is bretty basic but will get you on a better path for a bettercommunisttommorrow:
make an object for each room, doesn't have to be from a function or class or anything, you can do it manually, but get object for each room
let it have either X Y Z coordinates or a list of neighbours (second option is worse but easier), a function that will print out what you can see in this room from other room (ie. a door labeled chemistry lab) another function to print what you see in the room (without paths)
optionally a set of flags, those can be: visitCounter, looted, destroyed, lightOrDark etc.
then you need to remember the last decision of the player (to know which way he is facing)
lastly: when player enters a room, read this room's printout + each of neighbours what_it_looks_printout
later you will rewrite all the code so each room is a text file with strings and code will search for those files and autogenerate the objects, so you can modify the game without touching code

Simple and brilliant.
Realised I can use lasers and a very simple script to make logic gates in Algodoo, which gives me the basis for another calculator. It will still be based on moving rods (which either cover or uncover a laser) so still satisfies my mechanical itch. Since the lasers can be reflected in any direction I won't have to fuck around so much with linkages to turn horizontal into vertical motion and vice versa.
The moment a laser is uncovered it shines through the length of its path instantaneously, which solves the main problem of rod logic. The signal can propagate through the entire circuit without further fiddling with clocked sequences of rod pulling.
With the basic operations near instantaneous (hopefully), I'll finally be able to properly implement that system clock that computer architecture anon was talking about. Making a new memory system should be pretty CPU cheap as well.
