>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Age of Decadence, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

Help me remember the name of a game:

A bit like Rain World but it came out a few years ago, sidescroller where you control an animal with physics-based controls. Had a monochrome silhouette art style, somewhat like Knytt Underground.

Interesting how Oneshot gives you the possibility to "replay" the whole game again from a fresh start after the solstice ending except Niko is only a memory which is displayed by Nikos sprite and avatar looking like a bad video recording.

Also quite interesting how the game itself is a character with the solstice content and even tamed.
The Solstice update really adds a lot to the world and game.

Hollow Knight is pretty fun. The mantis boss fight was pretty cool.

That ending hit certain people really hard. I can't think of another game that managed to have so definitive of an ending while also going out of its way to make sure you were incredibly attached to the main character before the ending.

It's been almost 6 weeks since I finished OneShot and I only stopped being sad about the ending a few days ago because VA-11 HALL-A drew me in. Now I'm sad because I got to the ending of that game. Not even because that game had an ending like OneShot's, but because I really wanted it to last a little longer.
>>
>>181484090
At least you didn't feel the pain of coming to /vg/ to check out the thread and finding it as the last thread on page 10, unable to post in time to save it.
>>
>>181485239
I found a OneShot thread on /v/ a few days ago and that actually happened when I tried to post in it.
>>
>>181485312
If you find a thread dangerously close to death, don't waste time, bump it. You can write something better after.

Although it hurts when you arrive too late to do even that.
>>
>>181485040
>I really wanted it to last a little longer.
It really felt like the game should have kept going for a little more. The rest of the world deserved at least some more closure.
>>
>>181485829
If they made a sequel (and they could EASILY make a sequel due to how the story was handled) I would buy it in a heartbeat.
>>
>>181485614
It was a bit different. I saw the page number was 10, but I am so used to /vg/ that I forgot threads go from [9->10->ded] very quickly on /v/.

I clicked refresh to confirm the thread still existed, typed a post, tried to post it, and then learned that I was seconds too late.
>>
>>181485614
I was going to mash my keyboard and post to save the previous thread but captcha fucked me.
>>181485909
Same here. Do you know about the secret drink that gives you extra scenes? If you ever want to do a second playthrough in the future that's a little bit of encouragement
>>
>>181486112
Does it involve giving the idol a tea like drink? I haven't done it, but I'll figure it out.
>>
>>181486205
Nah, the Idol tea drink is something you do to get her ending I think. I was talking about a drink that you can make but isn't listed anywhere in the game. You serve it to specific people during the game and later on secret characters you've never seen before will show up at the bar. It's called the Flaming Moai
>>
>>181477986
That doesn't reflect well on the actual game.
>>
>>181485829
I had absolutely had no idea that the meeting with Gaby was going to end the plot right then and there until 4chan for girls gave a completely out-of-character message directed towards the player. I thought the game would last for 5 chapters at the very least.

Apparently when asked if there were any plans for a sequel, the dev basically said "of course".

It isn't like OneShot in that it would be borderline impossible to make a direct sequel. I'm sure you'll get your Valhalla sequel eventually.

Am I a shallow cunt if the only reason I won't play Guacamelee is because of the memes?

Looking at the SGDQ run and it seems fun, but I really can't get over the memes and forced references.

Yes. Get over it or be a hipster
>>
>>181496149
Yeah.
>>
>>181496149
It's honestly not a particularly good game. It's very, very easy until the extreme lategame, the combat is shallow, so story is bleh.

The aesthetic is good and that's pretty much it.
>>
>>181496149
See, I hate it too. I really, really hate how low they shot for their references.

You probably have too many passive coolers. You don't need that much.
You don't have any sas anyway.
>>
>>181502412
I thought I could bring the temperature down further but it seems to stay at 70, which is probably the setting. That was the first set of coolers so I'll tone it down.
>>
>>181503028
Passive coolers can only lower the temperature to 15°c.
Making more of these only keeps it to 15. A shame you didn't ask you, you could have saved up some wood.

Don't hesitate to build corridors and airlocks to keep the temperature in check too. And keep using wood, stone is solid and not flammable, but takes more time to open.

Otherwise... nah, seems okay. Get yourself some food, praise the potatoes and the rice.
>>
>>181503209
I put my colony pretty far from raiders, but I feel like that's my biggest problem. I'm working towards building guns and then I should be okay.
Was gonna use turrets but I don't like the idea of putting wires all the way out into the woods. Maybe I'll make limestone pathways for them.
>>
>>181503581
Well, you're supposed to have pathways anyway. Both to speed up your colonists, and also to stop woodfires.

I was gonna say to make a dumping zone, but you have one.
See ya later, gonna sleep.

Never unlocked the firearms, for example. I did unlock incinerator once, which you need, because you have a shitload of graves.
>>
>>181506628
Sounds like you should pick up some new games to me.

>you have a shitload of graves
kek, I'm guessing you can't deconstruct them? I'll have more foresight for when I turn up the difficulty.
>>
>>181506839
>Sounds like you should pick up some new games to me.
Yeah, but new games are all meh. Like, Oneshot is fun, but is it even a game? It feels more like an interactive book or a walking simulator than a game.
And don't get me started about strategy games.

You can deconstruct them, but your colonists are retards, so the moment you dig the body up to incinerate it, they'll immediately bury it again.
>>
>>181507029
>Oneshot is fun, but is it even a game?
Ehh I wouldn't say in the traditional sense, but it's still a game to me. Try some new genres of games. I recently tried out some Cataclysm: Dark Days ahead, but that's a discussion for /rlg/.

>colonists are retards
I agree.
>>
>>181507242
Oh yeah, I recommended Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead to a friend who liked Rimworld. Since he mostly played the Call of Cthulhu mod, I figured he would like it.

And colonists are so dumb it's infuriating.
I stopped counting how often I had one carry some steel to make concrete floor, fail to build it, and walk aaaaaaall the way back to the stockpile to recover one more steel while another was recovering the steel he just dropped.

As far as games that play themselves, I think I prefer it to Civ. And honestly, I do feel I am making decisions, as boring as they are.

Chill, it'll came when it's time. Let them work. As long as it doesn't take another 6 years we are good.

The only question is, if an expansion takes them at least a year and a half to finish, and they might make more than one, are we going to see North Underrail before 2027?

That'll be one long train ride.

> i still dont know how tanking works in this game so my dude who has the highest dps is always getting shit on constantly
PoE combat is all about 2 things: Tank n' Spank and using chokepoints.

Simply build one of your guys as a tank (Eder is perfect for this), build everyone else as DPS glass cannons, put the tank in a doorway so enemies cannot reach your glass cannons and nuke them away. Works 90% of the time, the other 10% of the fights doesn't have any doorways so you gotta improvise and somehow aggro the enemies with your tank.

PoE in general feels a lot like a singleplayer MMO. Lazy balance that makes all the classes homogenized, distinct tank/dps/healer roles, aggro mechanics, items give mainly small stat increases or effects that last a few seconds instead of game changing/playstyle defining bonuses/abilites, etc.

At least the way they implemented guns was cool. Pretty much the only thing that made me finish the game.
>>

>>
>>181556979
Yes. Not the most optimal way to play but it was fun.

thats sad to hear; i wanted to build a party of charaters from berserk. currently i am trying to make eder a tank but he doesnt hold agro no matter what. my other melee guy always draws agro. ill try the door thing
>>
>>181557437
>currently i am trying to make eder a tank but he doesnt hold agro no matter what.
Enemies will usually stay and fight the tank if they get engaged by him, unless the tank deals very little damage (since then they can afford to get hit by the disengagement attack), then they will ignore him and go after someone squisher.

So the tank should focus on defense but have enough damage to make sure enemies can't just ignore being engaged by him. Some of the fighter abilites help keeping enemies in place too.
>>
>>181558034
i must be doing something wrong. i gave him the strongest weapons i found. but whatever ill figure it out probably.

>>181581191
i know they had backer stuff ingame, but what does that mean here? that the backer wrote the story?
>>
>>181583680
Sort of, but not exactly. The backers could decide on how their NPC would be called, their appearance, and what their vignette should be about (they were given guidelines, and if needed were changed to not go against lore the backers did not know about). But the vignettes themselves were actually written by Obsidian.

They are completely irrelevant to anything, and the quality of writing usually hits rock bottom with them.
>>
>>181585769
>and the quality of writing usually hits rock bottom with them.
man. i thought this game was highly regarded? did i totally just misunderstand or something?
im having an OK time 20 hours in(slow player), but i figured its just cause im slow and shit at the game and still really early on in the story
>>
>>181585954
Initial reception was overwhelmingly positive, but the truth is closer to mixed. When it comes to writing, the quality fluctuates a lot. There are over 100 backer NPCs, and it's incredibly obvious that the devs just wanted to get over with it, so they never really put any effort into them. The story on the other hand is a first draft that never went through an editing phase. So it has its high and lows. How well can you tolerate the lows depends on your threshold.

The game also went through a lot of post-release rebalancing, with every patch nerfing and buffing dozens of skills, weapons, spell, etc. every time. Not every player was happy with the game constantly messing with their build when they just wanted bugfixes, especially back when respec was not an option. This shouldn't affect you much though, now that the game is more or less finished and not likely to change while you play it.

And a handful of other issues on which the playerbase is very divided.

Your character attacks by bonking into things (a lot of roguelikes operate with that mechanic to cut down on amount of input needed for regular attacks).

There's a lot of hoping backwards and forwards in the game (you have to reposition yourself to hit a monster at the right beat so you don't get hurt).

Still probably awkward when you're just trying to walk in a longer straight line with no enemies around.

The series is about as old as Donkey Kong or Ultima. For reference, Rogue was made in 1980, or about a year earlier or so.

>>
>>181619863
I'm not asking about where to find Lithium, I googled and found.
I'm just annoyed that the game doesn't help you. There's a difference between holding your hand, giving you small advice, and dropping you with just your dick and a knife.

I find it especially aggravating in Subnautica's case, since you have an analyzer. And being a Metroid Prime fan, I immediately analyzed EVERYTHING, but most of the stuff is just fluff, the only interesting parts are the ore nodes.

I was really happy when I discovered what bladderfishes do, because I was struggling to rush to bleach, and I was out of water.

>>
>>181620512
If you haven't made a base what you're calling sharks are probably the stalkers, you meet sand sharks later who are much more fierce

The reapers are these huge ass fuckboys with big appendages on the front of their mouths, I've glimpsed them only around the Aurora - apparently they can rush you and kill you / destroy a seamoth in an instant, so I always NOPE away. Think, maybe 30x bigger than a stalker, with red/white coloring.
>>
>>181620637
Never went near the Aurora.
I don't have thalassophobia, but I'm deadly scared of falling through the map and arriving in the void, and I wasn't even sure the Aurora was supposed to be reachable or if it was just a background item.

I don't know, in ARK, I don't have any problem, but Subnautica makes me uneasy, so I never went far from my spawning point.
>>
>>181620858
You need a lead suit or the radiation will kill you as you try to approach the Aurora. Be careful, there is a reaper leviathan that is always patrolling the waters near the Aurora.

Once you get inside it, there is a lot of loot, blueprints, and log entries to find. Also you can repair the core so that you no longer need a lead suit to be near the ship. Additionally, going to the aurora is necessary to advancing the (currently incomplete) main plot.
>>
>>181620858

You're naive if you think that an expansive dungeon crawler wouldn't have tweaking after launch. The only flaw in Blakemore's plan is he didn't release sooner instead of sitting on his game for twenty years. I've never played the original - this is a brand new blind playthrough - but the area where you spawn in the current version is in a nice shallow plateau, but there are sea cliffs down into lower areas, I built my base right on the cliff above the red seagrass area

Biomes seem really important so far

Can't prove a negative, but I have no idea where to find that last part - this wouldn't happen with a guide. I had the other three before I got that far into the plot. I might look it up if I can't find it in the next 24h.

Right now I can only think of two interesting places I haven't explored much: South end of the underground "river" near Segasi deep seabase and inside Aurora (I couldn't find the third door code in the living quarters area)

I don't know what you butthurt faggots are on about, Subnautica's current version is perfectly playable blind. But it IS buggy, so you might need to read up on the console commands. Cyclops is not strictly necessary, you can upgrade Seamoth up to 900m. I found the Seamoth pressure upgrade blueprints way before I got them for Cyclops. You probably want the upgraded Seamoth for that part anyways, since the facility is flooded and you have to spend some time diving inside.

And did you explore the island completely? You should've activated one of the teleporters that leads to another island. It's not critical to the ayy plot, but there's other interesting stuff there plus planters and great food that make survival mode easy.

>>181644390
Enable the console from F3 debug menu (use F8 to get mouse cursor)
Open console with standard console bind (~ § ö or whatever your regional equivalent is)

That'll dig 1m around you, freeing the item from terrain. Unfortunately there is no console command for noclip.

No one's going to care about Grimoire being a real RPG because nobody can recognize real RPGs anymore. When people think of RPGs nowadays they think of games like Fallout and Mass Effect. They wouldn't know a real RPG if it bit them on the ass, which is why you got journalists calling everything that's hard (to them, of course) "roguelikes". Sorry to burst bubble but many of the early "RPGs" had barely any roleplaying elements, they were just glorified linear hack&slash games that involved a bit more math and borrowed their systems from actual tabletop RPGs.

BG is a good game, not the the best RPG.

Pretty much everything except reputation is completly irrelevant outside of combat. No one gives a fuck if your INT is 8 or 18, no one gives a fuck if you are lawful good or chaotic evil, barely anyone cares about CHA and you can bump it to 18 with a single ring found early on in the game, Thieves Guild has no problem with offering work to a fucking paladin of all people, I could go on and on.

Something that for years was thought to be an insane retard trying to troll the Codex for shits and giggles. No one has ever heard about the game he was talking about, Cleve had nothing to back his claim about ever working for Sir-Tech with, and no trace of this supposedly long lost original Wizardry 8 existed.

And then this happened.

I really liked the characters and I really was interested in many of the stories the various bar patrons told throughout the game. A lot of the dialog is obscene and I personally thought most of it was pretty fuckin funny, though some people might not like it as much as I did.

As for the minigame, there are actually different bits of dialog and different endings you can get depending on what drinks you serve to people. Some of secrets you probably won't get on your first playthrough because you'll get the information needed to figure them out after the fact. The game is clearly designed around replaying it.

If you call yourself something obscene, Niko will comment that he isn't supposed to say that word, but gets over it and starts calling you by that name. If you call yourself something flagged as "disgusting" he will be grossed out. If you call yourself "mom" or "dad" he will state that the situation is confusing because he already calls his parents by that name. If you call yourself "Niko" he will be amused by the coincidence that you have the same name as him. If you call yourself something that sounds like "Niko" (Nikola for instance), he'll comment that your name sounds like his.

It was more painful to find out ill never see Niko again. I'd really like a sequel of some sort with Niko in it. I really miss him. Its just not the same if i do a full reset. Its like im wiping his memory of it and bringing him back to experience the torture all over again. Its like im forcing him to break his promise of never forgetting me. Id rather see him again with something new to say to me instead of the same thing. Its just not the same and its so painful. I'll never forget the little guy. I vow that i will find a way to meet with him once more without dragging him into that same story and wiping his memories of me. It's too soon for goodbyes! I can't just leave this hole in me unfilled! I understand it could be considered selfish to do this but i must fill the hole in my heart that meeting Niko and never seeing him again has left in me. If it's one shark attacking he can basically go all day and never get past the overshield

If I draw the attention of 3-4 (which I have in the past), they can cause hull breaches. I'm playing blind so I'm still learning all this myself, last time I panicked and took off at flanking speed to get away, started an engine fire.

Going straight up is roughly the plan but need to navigate around the eighteen (18) floating islands above me, without spooking too many sharks.

Those thugs are pretty easy with a somewhat decent build, a piece of cake with an optimized one.

Imo the hardest fight in Teron is slaughtering the Boatmen (without the stimulant) after betraying them. Clearing the outpost without poisoning it is pretty hard too.

>defeat them with my superior speed and agility (aka kiting)
Kiting works very well when there is a lot of space, but in vast majority of fights you won't be given that much freedom.

If you are playing ranged, liquid fire is your best friend as you can throw it into a chokepoint and prevent the enemies from chasing you for a few turns. Yuo can also stand in a corner and throw in next to yourself to prevent anyone from reaching you.

Did you find the Aurora survivor PDA and signal?

Your blueprint struggles sound pretty normal. I also unlocked the tech tree in weird order when playing blind. I found vehicle modification bay right at the start, but it took me a long time to find moonpool fragments to make use of it. Finding the modification workbench also took ages and its fragments are easy to miss among crates of similar size and shape. I never liked the prawn and only used it for minimal mining when necessary, but you can easily get its fragments inside Aurora. I recommend doing that in any case, it's one of the more interesting easily accessible locations. You will need re/propulsion gun to get in tho.

If you can build scanner room, you can use it to locate fragments and wrecks within 300-500m radius. I never used it much though.

Cyclops protips: Enemies are only attracted to the noise it makes. Use silent running and fast speed whenever going through long stretches of hostile territory. Don't bother with emergency speed before you have the fire suppression system, your engine WILL catch fire. Slow speed and careful navigation also avoids aggro to an extent when you're not in a hurry. Turn off the engine whenever you want to park the sub safely. Literally nothing in the game is a danger to the Cyclops if you know how to manage aggro.

Yeah, these are good tips, sadly I actually learned most of it since that last post. Here's a tip in return: if you turn on emergency speed and mentally count to ten before switching back to normal, you can make it out without a fire every time. Silent running is great, but when it's on cooldown, its back to shanking sharks if you want to move forward at all.

Scanner room is the best by the way, I keep the materials for it in my cyclops lockers and just build one on site, and either use a single solar panel or put together a biogenerator room to power it. Combine with the HUD chip to guide you straight to fragments or whatever. Also great for tipping you off to big cave systems. Main drawback is you have to actually know there's a wreck to visit first.

Today I did the Aurora and looted it fairly thoroughly, built my PRAWN, still no vehicle mod bay but I did get my workbench. Haha, time to do plot.

Fortunately the thermoknife doesn't actually require a recharge ever. Battery charging station is definitely a plus, you definitely want one (and a power cell charger too later when you use those)

Have you played Age of Decadence already?

Because I dare say it's the best RPG of all time when it comes to the sheer amount of unique paths/options/roles you can take and I'm not exagerrating when I say "best". You could make dozens of playthroughs and it's likely you still wouldn't see everything the game has to offer.

Other than that, Underrail is really good, but much more combat-centric. It does have factions to join, choices to make and different endings, but it's nowhere near AoD in that aspect. It more than makes up for it in build variety and the amount of unique ways you can kill stuff in.
>>
>>181769079
I just want a game a bit like Fallout, where my choices actually matter. I liked new Vegas and I still haven't explored all my options, but I want something with magic, and spells and shieeet.

>I just want a game a bit like Fallout
Both games fit that criteria.

Underrail is basically Fallout+Deus Ex+System Shock. It doesn't allow you to solve things with talking as much as Fallout did, but you can solve some quests by talking and you get ending slides that describe the fate of all the settlements/factions you interacted with, exactly like Fallout.

Age of Decadence is something different, it offers significantly more roleplaying and different decisions to make than any other RPG I ever played. It easily beats Fallout in that aspect.
>>
>>181769315
>I want something with magic, and spells and shieeet
Underrail has psi powers. It's not technically "magic", but you can throw fireballs and break the laws of physics with your mind.

Age of Decadence does have magic in the setting, but it's largely forgotten old-world stuff. You won't be able to cast spells in combat, but you can interact with old world tech like flying ships, portals, etc.

>>
>>181770417
>The only problem is that Underrail will not give him the same amount of important choices as Fallout,
Maybe not as many, but close to it. Underrail is very focused on combat that is true, but it's not short on choices/consequences either. There is quite a bit of different endings, 3 factions to choose from in Core City, Protectorate/Free Drones conflict, relationship with Faceless, etc.

I think the biggest difference is that Fallout offers significantly more occasions to resolve quest via talking. You can do that in Underrail too but more often than not it will involve combat or at least some sneaking by enemies.

>But how do Underrail work for speech? Is it the player's common sense who's tested, or the character's?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but it works basically like Fallout. It's just that resolving situations entirely via talking is much less common.

There are 3 talking skills (persuasion, intimidation, mercantile). They need to be high enough to convince NPCs. Some checks are traps and won't work regardleas of how high your skill is, for examplea some NPCs are just too strong-willed to be intimidated. Trying to reason with a bandit leader that has you surrounded is not likely to end up well either.
>>
>>181771000
Choice and consequence in Underrail almost always revolve around the player's actions and common sense, not things the game hands you on a silver platter in a conversation. Speech skills themselves make only minor long term changes. Maybe a slightly better outcome here and there, but the main decider is almost always going to be your actions.

And I simply doubt that anyone who goes in wanting to play a talker would be satisfied with this, no matter how much sense it does make.
>>
>>181771614
>I'm not sure I understand what you mean
Because, there's Fallout's approach, where it's either a roll or a skill check, and then, there's the VN approach, where it's entirely up to you to determine what's the best answer.

For example, in New Vegas, it's like that :
>"Lmao you suck cock."
>[COCKSUCKING 90] "I'm an expert at sucking cocks."
>"I gotta go".
So it's up to the character to roll and succeed.

In VN (or Deux Ex Invisible War), it's something like :
>"lmaaaao I bet you suck cock."
>"You have no hope to escape, put that weapon away."
>"brb fag, gonna clean your mom's mouth with my cock."
>>
lel, the Grimoire thread on /v/ got deleted.
did someone start a porn dump, or do janitors hate neanderthals?
>>
>>181771873
Underrail does a bit of both.

Best example I think is one of the end-game situations where a certain faction ask you a specific question in order to confirm you are one of them.

You can either equip their faction armor and answer the question correctly if you paid attention to in-game lore (or savescum) and actually know the answer, or you can simply pass a persuasion check.

Hah. Those are dirty peasants, if you have a few points in Dodge you can let them surround you and they still won't be able to even touch you. But damn, dirty peasants they may be, but does it feel good to kill them all.

Also, I see that you didn't invest in strength. That's not necessarily bad, but it determines damage with the bow. You should consider grabbing a long bow or a scythian if you don't already have one, because with base damage the short bow won't be able to damage anyone with heavy steel+ armor.
>>
>>181775691
I picked up some acid vials to counter that hopefully. Not sure about the long bow since it takes 6AP to fire a fast shot and I like to keep my distance.
>>
>>181775691
Also armor-piercing arrows would work hopefully.

Do you know where to find somewhere to smelt weapons? I want to make more arrows.
>>
>>181775691
>with base damage the short bow won't be able to damage anyone with heavy steel+ armor.
Well, he could with high investment in alchemy to make top tier poisons. But I don't think he invested in it. Crossbows would be much better for that, too.

I was actually thinking about making a high alchemy repeating crossbow build. Due to it's low AP cost and 5-shot magazine it's the ideal poison applicator, you could easily poison 5 enemies in one turn with it.

The problem is there are a few enemies that damage over time is not that effective in small cramped spaces where you can't kite. My other idea was a high alchemy 10 CON shield/hand crossbow build that could simply outlive everything. Add the Bolter and Power Armor with HP regen and it could be very potent.

But then you can't use the repeating crossbow and frankly I just wanted to find a use for the damn thing.
>>
>>181776054
Acid helps if the damage goes through, but you'll be forced to normal/power attack if they have over 10 DR anyway, and those cunts often carry shields too. So that 2 extra AP you have to spend in it isn't that bad.

Just keep one in your inventory, just in case.

Open the crafting menu and put whatever item you want broken down in the window, then hit "decompose".

Keep in mind there is a material loss that gets lower the higher your crafting is, so for example there is no point in decomposing steel items until you have 6 crafting required to actually work with it.

even if he worked 4 hours a day at, say, $8 an hour, thats still $640 a month($7600 year) he could be making at a gas station or other similar job.
not justifying it, and since it happened over two decades, its really hard to come up with a price for something like this unless he documented all his work hours and such very well. even then, thats assuming he gives a shit about stuff like that. $40 could be an arbitrary number be pulled out of his ass.

Yeah, you need to go deep if you want to progress, although there are some other places that you will get radio signals for that are relatively shallow like the bulb zone or mushroom forest, most of those signals are triggered by building stuff. So keep teching up.

>>181807443
Scanner room is your friend, get the range upgrade and set it to look for limestone outcrops. Always worth it. Get the HUD upgrade and you can swim right to every one of them.

Note that searching for copper ore will send you to the large deposits you need mining to harvest though.

Whole game is an allegory for purgatory and trying to escape it. I'm really glad I took a chance and bought Has-Been Heroes because this game has some really fucking fun synergies.
>Rogue does 3 hits normally.
>Use spell to double that to 6 hits.
>Use a full Soul Orb to cast any spell without cooldowns and use that same spell to double that to 12 hits.
>Do the same thing with my second Soul Orb to put the Rogue's next attack at doing 24 hits.
>Rogue starts off each run with an increased 15% critical hit chance.
>Over the course of this run, pumped enough critical chance up items to bring that to 50% critial hit chance.
>Each hit has 20% chance to deal additional lightning damage to target.
>Boss is soaked so Lightning damage is doubled.
>Each critical hit has 10% chance to deal 500 fire damage to target.
>Cast a spell to add additional lightning damage at the end of the attack just because I can.
The beginning of each run goes a bit slow but once you get to the second zone, things start getting interesting.
By the time you reach the final stretch, things just get fucking crazy.
This attack ended up doing around 3000 damage to the boss when the base attack for the rogue at the start of the game is 25-35 damage per hit.

overkill refers when you deal more damage than the enemy had HP

I was thinking about a way to make a good survival game while I was showering. Think I hit on something good (and I forgot about it until you posted). Will write it down now!

Anyhow, it's basically: You start the game filling out your backpack, and after that you can't even scavenge or anything (or perhaps something really basic) and you have to make the whole game with the shit you decided to bring along.

I imagine it'd have to be a shorter game / round based... but there's probably a lot of neat things you could do without being a god awful hunger bar chore game, but also not being completely devoid of fun resource management and impending doom that a survival game should have.
>>
>>181825057
I think there's something like that, a small game where you take as much stuff as you can to the shelter because the atomic bomb arrives.

Maybe you can have the second part being like some kind of puzzle where you try to leave the city while fighting/avoiding/sneaking by monsters or other survivors, with the items you picked determining your approach.

What makes a "good" survival game?
I understand it's mostly subjective stuff (for example, Don't Starve keeps you on your toes and is extremely challenging but lacks in comfiness and takes a few liberties from realism), but I can't seem to find a good one.

Or rather, I played a few survival games, but it's always the same thing, as soon as I understand how to exploit the game, I lose understand and I end up restarting.

>>
>>181830370
I meant "I lose interest".

I've been playing Don't Starve for a while now, probably years. I visited the caves maybe three times, and I never reached the ruins.
>>
>>181829937
Subnautica is a good survival game.

As you make progress and get better gear, you have to dive deeper and deeper into the abyss to make more progress. For a while you are swimming into areas that are increasingly difficult to comb because of more dangerous predators and oxygen limiting how deep you can go. Then you are using a hand held propulsion engine to quickly move through the water and enter wrecked ships on the bottom of the ocean and finding as many blueprints as you can before rushing back to the surface for air. Eventually you are piloting vehicles into creepy and dangerous areas that you would probably be terrified to swim in without the hull of a vehicle protecting you (not you mention you wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting that far down with just your oxygen tank).
>>
>>181830902
*not to mention the fact that you wouldn't have a chance
>>
>>181830902
But is it really survival? I mean, food is not a problem, and as soon as you understand what bladderfishes are, thirst is no longer one either.

Energy and oxygen can become issues if you go deep or aren't careful with your batteries, but otherwise, it feels like you're just describing an exploration game.
>>
>>181831072
>But is it really survival?
You are starting to get annoying.
>>
>>181831072
Well you did say it was mostly subjective stuff. I guess I define Subnautica as survival because you need to progress through a dangerous world alone full of things looking to kill you, where the survival comes from more active threats than passive ones like hunger and dehydration.

I guess the fact that you can easily choose to eke out a simple existence eating fish and using bladderfish for water instead of getting ambitious and charting the darkest depths might make it more of an exploration game than a survival game. Is this why you wouldn't consider it as much of a survival game?
>>
>>181831492
I'm just asking. If you don't want to talk, don't get on 4chan.

>>181831540
I'm not saying I don't consider it as survival. I'm just trying to analyze why I can't have fun with these despite being really interested in survival IRL.
>>
You know what? I'm adding Rimworld, VA-11 HALL-A, AND Subnautica to the next OP.
>>
>>181831763
Please do. Since I can't talk about Rimworld on /civ4xg/...
>>
>>181831720
Just for clarification, do you not have fun with Subnautica or do you consider it different from other survival games, which you don't have fun with?
>>
>>181831983
I don't have fun with any survival game.
Or rather, I only have fun when discovering the game. As soon as I find out how to get food/water/sanity/warmth/light, I lose interest, and usually, I don't even bother exploring.
>>
>>181832113
Then I guess the problem is that you like the big unknown that a game has and this feeling goes away the moment you actually know how it works and can simply game the system. Is that about right?
>>
>>181832285
I guess so.
I was really scared of Dead Space just before the Necromorphs spawn and are revealed to be pushovers.
>>
>>181832389
So would a survival game that is legitimately difficult to figure out be something you'd like? You did already mention Don't Starve, but would you consider the problems you had with that game different from the ones you have with other games?
>>
>>181832724
Don't Starve is a bit of a special case, because I never went far with it.

I mean, Subnautica and ARK are a bit similar, you spawn in the middle of nowhere, and slowly explore the area around before settling down and researching.
Don't Starve is a bit different because of Winter and the hounds, who put pressure on you.
I have yet to survive a single winter without starving or freezing to death.
So, to that regard, I can say that Don't Starve satisfied me, even if you're dependent on gold and manure to settle down.
>>
LMAO at disconnected CRITICS.

>>
>>181831072
Surviving solely off of bladderfishes and peepers for an extended period does eventually get rather difficult though, as they don't respawn and you'll eventually have to trek out further and further from your base to find them

Of course, the moment you find alien containment fragments/indoor/outdoor growbeds food/water pretty much only means you can't stay away from your base for too long
A thermoblade could also make that a non-issue as well, since it automatically cooks food, though even when cooked it'd take a lot of fish to keep your water levels up
Thermoblades really should require a battery and just act as normal knives when the battery runs out

Well, Subnautica just climbed up in my esteem.

I mean, it's possible to build a water tank to grow your food, but it's not something you can do when the game starts, so you're bound to explore first, and then get comfy later.
That actually sounds like fun : reward exploration by making it easier to survive.

A fish tank's a really inefficient way of sustaining yourself, though
A single plant pot with 4 marblemelons is enough to sustain you indefinitely, provided you've visited the area where you can find marblemelons
And you can even build them inside the Cyclops, which if you don't know essentially acts as a mobile base with limited power and some other restrictions
>>181833593
Personally, I have no need for water filters
I only use one because it's the only way to get those +50 big filtered water bottles, which are the most efficient on inventory space

You know, something really nice to have would be a big 2x2-sized canteen of some sort that you can take smaller water bottles and use to fill that up, maybe up to 200 water, and when you click on it you drink just enough to fill your water meter or empty out the canteen
>>
>>181831072
Surviving in Subnautica is basically just a mild annoyance. The only difference between playing on Survival and Freedom is more time spent on menial tasks and building a dozen containers and eventually a dozen fish tanks to hold food.
>>
>>181833504
Ok, so you want the game to not let you get comfortable early on and make you fight tooth and nail for survival, but you ultimately want to be able to overcome the odds and earn the right to be comfortable later on. Is that it?
