You're supposed to time your heal between his attacks, which is why he's annoying to use too.

His TM is great if you run with Dark Veritas later, or with Orlandeau you can chain dark when light is resisted.

What qualities am I looking for in a chainer\finisher? I assume chainers want high number of htis and finishers want big damage but am I supposed to be checking the frame data of every attack to see how well they connect? That's the thing,
For hard shit, you don't use a finisher.
Survivability is the name of the game, finishers are best left to DPS races (which do exist occasionally).

2chainer/1wol/1cecil/1rikku/1tilith is objectively the strongest party in the game right now. The finisher is only there for easy bosses that don't take as much to survive, or for non-evoke missions especially.

Ramza will further drive finishers to the point of obscurity. Sometimes you don't even get two DPS, you just have to use a finisher.

If I could just get my Orlandu to 6* I think things might be better, but I still don't have any equipment for my characters that's worth a damn. I'd be in such a better spot if my phone hadn't died on me after getting Y'Shtola from the Titan event right after I'd started playing, and I'd been able to get an emulator to work.

Well on the first turn I'm actually going for a Crush Weapon on Orlandeau (the other sets up the imperil) while WoL does Light with Us. That way I'm fairly safe and the next turn is the real deal.

But that's why I've got trouble with Rikku's TM, I'm not really convinced he has the time to use it in real fights unless I slow down the damage and crush weapon again.
Or I put it on a finisher but the loss in atk is really annoying.

so am i missing something about this spherimorph fight? It says that it will switch elemental resistances when hit with his current weakness...but, he never stays weak to the element when it switches back to my turn and im barely scratching him in terms of damage. I have Zyrus and Freyvia and a friendlando. Trying to use flare so he uses fire then makes him weak to ice then i can use flower blitz, but the weakness just dissapears when my turn starts.

The real answer is they're probably putting him on a solo team as leader then using that team to power grind, however they are too stupid to assign a permanent leader party in the options and thus their leader changes when they swap parties.
One of my most powerful whale buddies still hasn't figured out assigning a permanent leader, it sucks when he's TM grinding and I have to look at his useless Shines/Snows/Whatever.

It has wonderful characters, plot (if you bother to pay attention to it), atmosphere, world and aesthetic, and IZJS fixed most of the problems with gear/loot and the licence board.
However, the battle system is hit-or-miss for people. You might love it or absolutely not, but you really need to play it to find out. It's also worth noting that using gambits is completely optional, so if you want to ignore them then you can.
Overall it's a wonderful game, one of if not the best in the main series, if you enjoy the battle system. If you don't then it's still worth a playthrough for everything else, but it probably won't be your favorite.

The next big poppa is the very next banner when Balthier bursts onto the stage as an excellent finisher, along with Ashe and Rasler as budget chainers.
After that we cool off for a couple banners, then the FFT part 3 banner should come with Merc Ramza as a solid tank and Knight Delita as a mid-tier chainer. Immediately after that should come the Veritas banner which is absolutely deluxe, as Veritas of the Dark is chocolate-flavored Orlandeau and Veritas of the Flame is a world-shaking finisher. There's also Veritas of the Earth, but you can forget about using him. However, all 3 Veritas have absolutely top-of-the-line TMRs.

I actually got the impression Prompto is in reality a lot more distant from Noctis than the main game actually makes it seem. Episode Prompto makes it come off that Prompto sees Noctis more as a source of validation than anything else, and as soon as Noctis does something that's not the case, he immediately places doubt on him and is all too ready to believe this guy he thinks is a friend wants to kill him. Which even if he has extremely low self-worth doesn't reflect well on what he truly thinks of Noctis, to believe that Noctis would be capable of this. Noctis cottoned onto the fact that it was a trick really fast. Prompto, not so much.

It takes Aranea telling him to stop being a brat and realize that no, Noctis does give a shit about Prompto because he's a human being with feelings and not a living crutch for Prompto's issues. Noctis cares a lot about Prompto's wellbeing because he's a kind person who hates it when people are hurt because of him, but Prompto is too concerned about wallowing in self-pity to do the same. I appreciated all the development the DLC gave him, but on the other hand when Prompto's end of the friendship is this fragile it really undermines the whole "bonds" theme the game is trying to push.

I got back to 50 mythrils, and this banner 3 is tempting me too much, since I have Lightnig USB but not her BSB2. Plus thunder is my favourite element and have good characters/relics for it, so that Shantotto CBS is just as tempting to become a thunder memelord.
However.
I have five dupes on the banner and only 3 real prizes (TGC's SSB, Lightning BSB2 and Shantotto CSB. Fuck you dena for removing Desch in favour of that XII slut).
Banner 4 interests me highly for Cecil and Terra's USBs Relm's BSB and Ramza's Chant.

And then there's FFVI which is my favourite game, huge nostalgia boner, have honestly mediocre synergy for the realm, including no medica. And Celes is my favourit VI character, but for her I only have Indomitable Blade.
My mines are for all intents and purposes, dry. I might have 16-20 mythril left, maybe less.

I'm guessing it was probably Prompto's adoptive parents. No reason they would hold onto him otherwise if they didn't plan on taking care of him. There's a billion possible reasons for why they might've stolen him (from Verstael's comments it's implied people were trying to gain intelligence on the Niflheim empire's capabilities; perhaps they were spies), but it's implied Prompto always had some idea he was a foreigner. So whoever found him in the first place was in communication with him. Likely the Argentums themselves.

They probably were also the ones who told him to hide the barcode, since while they were distant, he doesn't seem to be afraid or hiding anythign from them, and it's also implied he's on good enough terms with them that he thought it was worth making them proud.

One last brag post for me.
Finally after persevering for so long with merely Chizuru as my best attacker, I calmly and quietly assembled TMRs and rewards and support units (Ramza, Marie, Tilith) and even to-be finishers (DKC, Firion), missing out on passing trials as they grew too difficult.
But no longer! With WoL, Rikku, and almighty Orlandeau I will revel in the spotlight!

Garnet and Agrias are both late, late term payoff units. Agrias will be mini-Orlandeau and Garnet will be summoner in chief once Bahamut, her 6* form, and the rework to summoning arrives.

I was dreading the fight against Despair UGLY, but I actually managed to beat and even master him on the first try. Tried to skip his second dispel but couldn't; I only survived thanks to being at mostly full health so last stand triggered on the last instant spell attack.

With that said, only idiots have fully benched Cecil for now. He synergizes fantastically with WoL to mitigate virtually 100% of the damage on a team. For trials where you value survivability above all else, he deserves his slot still.

It's only once we get singers that you should kick him out for good.

I haven't played this game for very long and to my understanding Orlandeau is generally considered to be the best unit. My friend on the other hand how has play much longer claims something else and I'm pretty sure he is wrong. This is his apparent reasoning:

The highest magic stat and highest attack stat in this game are both around 1100
And that's with min maxing bis etc
Fryevia can get her magic to 900+ while simultaneously having her attack be 700+
Which is unheard of meaning she can hit harder than Orlandeau
And that's before getting buffs from supports.
And ice isn't a commonly resisted element and apparently global is going to have more physically resistant content than JP
So overall I'd argue that Fryevia is better than Orlandeau

Surface level, that's correct but only if you consider using them in a vacuum with no other support. Fryevia can potentially deal more damage than Orlandu, but chains much worse and is locked to the Ice element. Meanwhile Orlandu can easily double chain with another Orlandu to deal insane damage, and he can use multiple elements so his potential chain friends are huge.

No no, you misunderstand the hybrid formula. Ever since Memegod's BiS hit over 1000 (Greatsword Mastery), he hits harder than her in a vacuum.
Hybrid averages both your stats and the defenses of the enemy, so it ends up basically always being inferior than standard magical or physical moves by a WIDE gap.

And while ice may be a less common resist, it's also completely devoid of any good weapons aside from Fryevia's own TM. That means no finishers.

It's generally agreed that Fryevia deals more raw damage with a perfect setup, but Orlandeau is both easier to use and more reliable due to Fryevia's propensity for breaking her own chain. Plus Orlando has future synergy with Agrias and Veritas of the Dark, and enhancements are a certainty in his future but an unknown for Fryevia.

She is the strongest, most capable finisher in the game right now when you don't account for buffs/breaks.
The only reasons you wouldn't run Rem instead of any other finisher would be
A. the battle is so short and you're trying to OHKO (rem needs 2 more turns to reach her peak)
B. You don't have ANY mage gear, but tons of physical.
C. You have a really strong ATK buff but no MAG buff

C. is resolved entirely by the time Ramza comes around, and B. is just a case of git gud.

Mate, that'd matter of the Hybrid move had the same modifier, but Fryevia's, like Veritas of the Light's later, has a tremendous modifier to compensate. Hybrids are viable in JP for this reason.
It's the fact that her needle, along with Power of Creation and the Genji Glove, raising both her ATK and MAG simultaneously that allows her to deal crazy numbers, especially with D. Fina's Swimsuit.

That math was before Orlandu got Greatsword Mastery to push him an extra 20% base attack above her.
The gap closed a little bit more when we got D. Fina's Swimsuit, but she's still behind a ways.

And that's before you account for the practical things you mentioned.

The fact that you mention Power of Creation tells me you have no clue how hybrid works. 50% more MAG from Letters and Arms is leagues stronger than 30% more ATK and 30% more MAG.
You don't want to raise them simultaneously, you only want to focus on ONE stat.

An 800% hybrid skill, for all practical reasons, averages to less than 400% with Fryevia's stats.
