Bought myself a Saitek x-55 and have recently been getting into flight sims(IL2:BOS,DCS and War Thunder). The one thing I've still not gotten the handle on is trimming and flaps.

TL;DR: What is trimming and how do I flaps?
>>
>>181115832
Trim tabs are to help you keep in level flight without the need of an autopilot, flaps are for when you are dogfighting or takeoffs and landings.
>>
>>181116802
If my engines been shot out and I need to glide for a long bit without it, will raising my flaps allow me to do that?
>>
>>181117003
When flags give you two things being Lift and a bit of Drag, so you need engine power or some other form of thrust, otherwise you will find yourself bleeding more speed than normal.
>>
>>181117328
Or if you are flying the su25t your brick will suddenly have more lift than a helium baloon. This will make crash landing it much easier

Already asked in the last thread but i want to be sure before /simg/ dies.

I already have a joystick, but using the rudder with the "twist" is fucking horrible. Rudder pedals are pricey but would it worth it if i really want to get into sim ? (Il-2, Rise of flight, DCS)
>>
>>181142282
I would join, but I have only FC3
>We need to get something going to get more guys here
All we need is do ops. Some people come here from time to time, and if we do ops every x week/month they will start coming here more often, to discuss about next ops, experiences, and etc. At least that's what I think

Anyone here actually a pilot who plays Sims?

I've started flying in FSX about 3 months ago, ive logged 8 serious hours in the A2A cessna 172 (after crashing a few dozen times due to stupid shit in all the default planes).

I literally only know how to navigate with radios (did a 180nm flight with no GPS, and I only missed my calucated fuel spending by a gallon or two, fuck yea), I don't really know much of anything else.

(Besides memorizing the 172 preflight/startup checklist, ive got most of the pre-flight memorized thanks to A2A planes featuring a functional preflight procedure)

What books should I download/read before attending a class?

I'm hoping to start actual pilot lessons towards the end of July.

I just want to get into the sky god damnit
>>
>>181147836
Good luck anon, hope it goes all well
>>
>>181147836
I personally use the ASA private pilot and instrument books. I'd recommend going to a part 141 school so you get a regimented experience. If you want to bumble the fuck around fly at a part 61school. I'm a part 61 cock jockey for reference and my experience is very mixed

It depends on the mission, afaik you only need a beast pc if you are hosting those dynamic missions. Smallscale ops are fine
I still miss those GRACH ops

Does anyone play Motorsport Manager?
Is this even the correct thread?

While we're in here, is there a good game about merchant ships? I don't mind if it's a hands-on simulator or a top-down management game, both are fine.
>>
>>181148117
Someone told me before to do part141 instead, something about you might need less flight hours? Not sure

I just wish I was friends with an instructor so i didn't have to dann near pay $170/h (wet + instructor)

The biggest problem is all the damn money it costs to train (we appear to have a nice local plane club with $80wet rentals but they dont have instructors so no point in paying to join yet).

Ima buy those books after work though and start reading, thanks.

I have a CH products yoke- got it for civil Sims (I use it for DCs too) but it actually makes for a fantastic wheel for that game- the travel of the wheel is much more like an actual F1 car, and the button placement is great for F1 stuff
>>
>>181179660
Its old but with the massive B.A.T. expansion (50GB) its hard to think of the Steam sale price for 1946 as being anything other than an outrageous bargain.

In the sim area we are generally playing old stuff anyway. I play BMS and I don't think of it as reto gaming. I bought Falcon 4 in box when I was doing my Christmas shopping in 1998.

Prepar3d is still really FSX and DCS has never seemed much different than a prettier LOMAC to me.

Part of this is a lack of interest in the genre and lack of resources devoted to them, part of it is it seems they genuinely need to mature somehow.
>>

Read these books:

I personally recommend you get the private through p.61, then do the rest 141. Part 141 might be cheaper, faster, and more structured, but you won't learn as much decision making because everything is too well laid out. Your 61 experience will be wonderful in the 141 environment because you have a more well rounded education experience.

The A2A Skyhawk is amazing. Learn pilotage and ded reckoning in addition to RNAV and Navaids.. plus they will be more helpful for VFR training.

>>
>>181186727
I'm not the same anon, anon.
>>
>>181185781
Yes. I bought mine when Falcon AF came out.
I like it, its worked the whole time perfectly well.
Some reports here describe it as flimsy which I find strange because mine is obviously pretty solid, were they different after MadKatz got involved?

I don't understand why people think it doesn't have enough buttons and you can use the pinky switch to double up everything anyway ('shifted').

Only thing I don't like is the slider on the throttle which is a bit cheap.
>>
>>181186818
slider is terrible and so is the mouse nub.
Also the top rotary is a bit iffy, these things are best used as buttons

>>
>>181185781

>>
>>181187039
Got a chronometer and indicates you what "mode" it's in. (The joystick got a switch, mode 1 = one setup of butons, and you can switch it on the fly.)

Otherwise i seriously don't know if it can do something else.
>>
>>181187039
Not a lot. It tells you what profile is loaded, redundantly tells you which mode is selected on the three way switch on the right of the stick and tells you the time and the date.
>>
>>181187256
>>181187306
Thanks, sounds useful in some situations
>>
>>181186906
I think thats fair, I never use the joystick nub.
Obviously I don't like the way it looks and the LEDs are horrid.

At the time I bought it there weren't many alternatives and its certainly lasted better than any peripheral I've ever bought so I can't be too salty about it.
>>
>>181187454
It is useful confirmation of what profile is loaded.
It isn't actually a screen though, its three line LCD basically.

For everybody
>DCS World New Maps Update
Now that the DCS: Normandy 1944 Map has been released and we are in a tuning and bug fixing mode, some of our map team has shifted their focus to two other maps we have in development:

>New Caucasus Map. Based on the existing map in DCS World 1.5, we are working on a huge update that will include:
>Improved textures for all seasons
>Improved and higher resolution ground >elevation mesh
>Improved ground object textures for buildings, >roads, bridges, airfields, etc.
>Adding terrain shadows based on time of day
>New tree system for more and better-looking forests
>Additional map area in the southern portion of the map
>Added procedural grass
>>
>>181251181
If this works theorically you can upload your modules for us to test

The completion of this map is a critical component of moving all DCS World to version 2 and saying goodbye to DCS World 1.5.

>As this will update our existing Caucasus map, this update will be for FREE!
kek

>DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map.
>In parallel, our map team is hard at work on the Strait of Hormuz map and making great progress.

Thanks man, started reading some resources last night and now i know how to properly trim the aircraft, i cant believe how dumb i was, i was trying to work it backwards.

And i'm also getting a lot better climb rates now that i understand that Attitude != AOA and how drag plays a bigger role than i thought.

Going to keep reading and keep learning

>pilotage
This is like using landmarks and shit for reference right?
Downloaded a florida texture pack that makes it more realistic, starting to notice where i am around home when i start a flight.

(only works so well in a nearly flat state kek)

>ded reckoning and RNAV
this is where i'm currently falling short (besides knowing zero regulations)

Somehow when i was making my flight plan i wrote down the radial instead of the bearing angle, wound up 50nm off course and just landed at a random airport. Felt pretty bad, if i was paying attention to the to/from indicator i would have noticed it a lot earlier.

On a side note, is there any free alternatice to the "Garmin Pilot" phone app?

I just want to be able to plan a flight, and get frequencies for VOR/ILS/ADF, i dont need all of the other really cool tools it offers until i actually start flying. (besides the weather since i play with realtime weather, its fun.... in these simulations anyway haha)

I usually create a paper flight plan, with a shitty sketch on the projected flight path, but using the FSX map to find frequencies is a pain in the fucking ass to use.)

Sorry for blogging, i need to find a forum for this that's not reddit, like seriously, i've posted there once, they're honestly worse than /pol/+/v/

This second, short op was a failure. Our limited squadron of 2 SU-27 got overwhelmed by F-15 and our mission to provide TARCAP was a failure after a unit vital to the operation got removed by said F-15s. Against all odds, we still managed to body 6 F-15s after heavy cooperation as a bait-killer pair, plenty more remained to ruin our day though

Who the fuck knows what's going on with the Gazelle at this point.

They are still in the process of the breakup. Haven't heard anything about the sniper team since the posted some pictures of the models like 10 months ago.

Such a shame, I love the Gazelle, I wish it was in the hands of someone competent.

I'm very bad typist, so don't judge me, feel free to ask questions. Anyone feel free to correct me because I can be wrong.
DCS: World and Falcon BMS 4.33 basically

>BMS
>a proper combat flight sim game
In my opinion it is most proper one, there are groups who come together to play at set time. But its graphically old so if you're sucker for graphics don't think you will like it.
You're pilot of various F-16 blocks/variants, harrier and F-18 are made very good too I believe. Systems are very detailed in my opinion. It has very very sweet dynamic campaign, clickable cockpit, and it's free, you just need falcon 4 files(I will upload them to mega link in OP text). F-16 was a perfect choice for a game, because it's so capable bird.

>DCS
Graphically good. Holds monopoly over game genre. It's """Free to play""".
You get Su-25T and TF-51D. TF-51D is purely for trying prop plane(it's a prop plane).

Su-25T is
>CAS(Close Air Support)
>SEAD(Suppression of Enemy Defenses).
It's best at SEAD in DCS. It's hard to control, but you get used to it. But I bet you will want more.
So then it comes modules. You buy what you want to fly/feel boner for.
Modules are priced $20-$60, but it's because they're very detailed and ED holds monopoly over combat sims.

I suggest you to get this module first while it's on sale. http://store.steampowered.com/app/249320/DCS_Flaming_Cliffs_3/
>It contains F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29S and Su-25
Cheap, widely used and best in dcs(Not limited to, there are detailed single plane modules which are good as these are)
But it's less detailed than single plane modules, and doesn't have clickable cockpit. But they're good, and a lot of people find it enough.

Any questions?

It's pretty easy, the systems are mostly separate from each other and it's easy to learn them one at a time plus there's not lots of HOTAS commands to memorize like on the A-10C.
>>
>>181387221
Black shark is an attack helicopter. Very good if you have a target zone with expected targets and you want to remove the fuck out of it. Not very good for CAS but still doable because it's only 1 guy in the cockpit and the only sensor only aims forward.

A-10C is a CAS plane. Good for the situations where you have a general target zone but don't know exactly what and where to expect enemies.

>No tail rotor eases up things, no?
Yes in a sense that you don't have to fight much torque in a hover, but it does bring its own problems such as blade clipping in high speed manuvers.

In regards to ease of the module, any rotorcraft is very hard to pilot the first time, just remember that controls will feel laggy so you have to pre-empt them somewhat in order to avoid over compensating and getting yourself into pilot induced oscillation.

Just trying to stay in control and in one place will seem difficult at first especially since you will be fighting the autopilot. So, when you first enter the cockpit (assuming the aircraft is already started), look to the controls on you right, you'll see 4 blue buttons, 3 of which will be lit (pitch, roll and heading). These are your autopilot and stability channels. While on they make the aircraft more stable and easy to control, but the autopilot will always try to turn you back to the pitch, roll and heading settings programmed into them. You can just press the flight director button (bigger blue button nearby) to leave the stability on but disengage the auto pilot, but the other way to use the AP is with the trimmer. If you press and hold the trimmer on your joystick (you need to map it, also make sure you go into the options and turn on central trimmer mode), the AP disconnects allowing you full control with stability, fly the pitch, roll heading you want and then let go of the trimmer. The AP will now be programmed with these new settings.
The fourth blue (unlit) button is the altitude hold. It works the same way as the autopilot, but it requires a separate button (in the real thing it's on the collective brake so it's always set when the pilot moves the collective).

I would agree it is deficient in ATC/traffic elements but its looks great and the feeling of flight is bang-on and leagues ahead of FSX-derived sims.

even in it's awful state, default FSX is more then enough to navigate solely by reference to surface landmarks. No texture maps needed, works for the entire world.

Keep reading and trying flights, it will come together the more you practice.

If you're looking for VFR and IFR charts (where you can get real frequencies and plan routes) go to
>www.skyvector.com

Also, if you have never done so, read the Learning Center and take some of the flight lessons offered by Rod Mochado, the learning tab of FSX is a fantastic resource that is criminally underrated.
>>
>>181443781
I forgot to add, but the navigation situation is over 10 years old in FSX as opposed to real life. Some frequencies are different, some Navaids have been moved (many decommissioned) and some new ones constructed.

When there's a conflict with the real world, the FSX Map view shows what is actually being simulated in real time in the simulator.

It's still accurate %90+ of the time.

Operation begins. Ships energise radars and sonars. I've launched the JSTARS bird, an E2 sentry and 8 CAP birds out of Romania. The CSG launches its own AEW as well as 4 CAP birds and a hornet with a SHARP pod.

The Navy planes head for the Bosphorus, while the Air Force heads just off the territorial waters of Romania. We'll see what the response will be.

In the Aegean Sea, the Navy Carrier Strike Group and SSGN Ohio have FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN TOMAHAWKS. The Aegis destroyer USS Truxtun off the coast of Romania has 56 Tomahawks, and around 12 cruise missiles per each B52. Not to mention 14 F16s with HARMS and JASSMs, and 12 Hornets with Harpoons.

Adder inbound! One Flanker claimed by the 492nd Fighter Squadron so far. Three more targeted by missiles so far. The Hornets have come in range.

Currently I am thinking that the enemy is making a somewhat foolish mistake, since he has the numbers but as we all know, GODSPLEN and GODSMISSILE are superior. But still, they'd be gaining little even if they shot all my planes down since I can fire cruise missiles from the coast of Romania anyway.

So far, airquake has been a resounding success for the Americans. No planes lost and 10 Flankers swimming in the Black Sea.

However, the Hornets are in trouble as they expend their missiles and RTB with one flanker on their tail. More CAP Hornets have become available and i launch them for intercept. However for now, the Hornets (and the support planes behind them) are exposed with just their AIM9s available for defense.

At the same time I am thinking of a strike plan on the enemy SAMs. Any suggestions? I can't see any SAMs except a (presumably) captured SA5 to the east.

Ivan seems really angry I just blasted his flankers out the sky and is coming back for round 2. I launch 8 more F15Cs that I didn't realise I have.

The Sentry has also spotted what I can only assume to be a surface action group off the coast of Sevastopol. This slightly complicates things as that makes strike planning even more complicated. I'll have to coordinate Tomahawks from USS Truxton, the B52 strike, a HARM strike from the F16s and a Harpoon strike from the Navy planes. That is the initial blow. The CVBG and SSGN will deliver the killing blow with their Tomahawks later and a mopup from Maverick equipped F16s. I hope that will be enough to crack the enemy IADS.

Also if you're angry at me eating up the image limit let me know

But by then they're usually making an unscheduled water landing, looking for their missing wing and trying to cool down their burning engines.

Okay I have to end earlier than expected. Situation update: shit is hitting the fan. The SAG is approaching the Truxton and is shooting a strangely small amount of missiles towards me. I will have to attack earlier than I wanted.

The air war is still going great. I haven't taken any more losses and I am shooting down Russian planes like it's target practice. The combination of the SAG and the planes is worrying me slightly however.

Next time I come on I will defeat the air wave and launch a combined HARM and Harpoon strike at the enemy SAG, then reassess my options for a SEAD strike on Crimea afterwards. Hope you've enjoyed this. I'll post more DARs later as well since you guys don't seem to mind.

So, I wanted to buy some DCS modules in the steam sale for use with the standalone but am confused about if it can still be done. On their website they say:

>Yes, only DCS keys bought on Steam before 12th May 2017 can be used on DCS stand alone.

But then just below they say:
>Please note from 12th May 2017 DCS: M-2000C and all future DCS World DLC releases on Steam, will now use Steam Keys instead of Starforce keys. As such, these purchases cannot be activated on the DCS World e-Shop version. Previous purchases will not be affected. Please be advised that this only affects NEW modules on STEAM. Pre Mirage 2000C modules will be issued with StarForce serials.

Well youre in luck because I'm back.

The enemy air wave is mostly destroyed. I launch 12 Harpoon equipped Hornets from USS George H.W, Bush, with the aim of blowing up the SAG which is courteously bringing itself away from the ground based air defense network. When the antiship strike is close, I will launch F16s with HARMs out of Romania to try to get some shots in on the ground based AD.

However I expect little or none of these to actually hit. They will just help me get a picture of what I am up against in terms of the ground AD. Come to think of it I could try getting a JSTARS pass by bringing it a bit closer but that is rather risky.

The air attack was repelled. All that's left is a few CAP planes that the neemy launched a few minutes ago. They'll be dealt with soon too. The Hornets are about a third of the way to attack positions.

The enemy surface group is rather noncommitted towards an attack on Truxton; Aegis cruiser or not, there's still far more of them, they could easily destroy her if they wanted. Maybe they're waiting for some reinforcements or something. I hope I can get the strike going in time.

Splash. This engagement was really strange. The commander of the surface group had been running with radar silent the entire time, and due to this did not spot the missiles coming in until the crewmen of the ships started seeing grey smudges skimming above the ocean. But by then it was too late to utilise their air defence effectively. Only 2 Harpoons were shot down. The single remaining ship has been hit, and I am going to get the SHARP pod equipped Hornet to conduct BDA after it refuels. I assume it has been hit bad because no radars are emitting.

Now it is time to create a plan for the main SEAD strike. The main tasks are:
Locate the SAMs
Shoot the SAMs
We have a bazillion missiles of all descriptions available, including cruise missiles, HARMs and Mavericks. Any suggestions?
>>
Update. It seems the remaining ship is actually all fine and dandy. I fly the f16s into the air defence of the Slava and it immediately opens up. Unfortunately it destroys all 12 missiles headed in its direction. I am going to try again with the Harpoons. If it doesn't energise its radar like last time, it'll again be too late for the sip to respond as 8 Harpoons slam into the enemy ship.

The SHARP equipped Hornet made a quick pass about 50nm to the coast of Crimea and gave me a piece of intel: The rough location of the SA-20 site.

Meanwhile I am sortieing all of the B52s and HARM equipped Hornets to standby for an attack. The b52s will fire first, expending their MALD missiles. These are dummy weapons meant to saturate the enemy air defense. These will be supported by Truxton's supply of tomahawks to hopefully get as much of the Russian air defence radiating, giving me more intel on the enemy. After that, I will send in the rest of the B52s, Hornets and Vipers to destroy what pops up.

Sevastopol's IADS has come online. Two SA21s and an SA10. This will be pretty hard to pull off without getting our planes killed. As the Russians shoot missiles, I move in HARM equipped Hornets with a Prowler's EW support. Hopefully it will be enough to get them in range and out of there before getting popped by the very capable Russian SAM platforms.

Update. Unfortunately, the strike did not cause any damage . However I feel it was almost enough to crack the fortress. 70 missiles shot down, with 3 or 4 HARMs almost making it to their destination. Though it was a bit gut-wrenching. Four SA21 missiles tracked one of their Hornet flights on their way in. Fortunately all missed, likely due to the Prowlers EW assistance.

Next strike will utilise everything I have. I will reposition the B52s over the bosphorous to fire missiles in tandem with around 150-200 Tomahawks from the CVBG and the SSGN. The final target tally is Three SA10s , two SA21s. Also, an antiship missile battery to locate and destroy too. Quite a lot of shit.

Oh. It also appears that the enemy has decided to scramble more planes. I move F15s to intercept.

Time to start shooting for real. I will fire 3/4 of the tomahawks on the SSGN and about a quarter of the CVBG . This will be supported by a B52 strike which I will attempt to time correctly so that all missiles strike simultaneously. Hope this doesnt shit up my computer.

The Tomahawks will soon be in range of the IADS. If the Russians manage to repel this attack then I will be VERY surprised. I think I have timed the slower missiles from the B52 (the ones in front) well enough. The MALD-J will hopefully jam enemy defenses well enough to make them miss more.

Meanwhile, the USS Truxtun is about to be in range to engage the Slava class cruiser. I will attempt to soften him up with my SAMs, since I have no antiship missiles on this ship. The Slava slightly outguns me but is damaged from earlier Harpoon strikes. Hopefully this will be enough to prevail.
>>
>>181526765
10 SAM hits were enough to send the Slava on a one way trip to the bottom. As the ship topples over, vampires are dectected, inbound on the Tomahawks. Here we go.

>>
....Well nevermind. In a final furious volley they destroyed half of the tomahawks. However, soon a resounding silence emanated from the Russian air defence... they ran out of missiles.
Tomahawks are starting to splash.

The onboard seekers are detecting new targets. Those must be the antiship battery. I will have to fly out a Hornet with a SHARP pod to conduct BDA and recon on these new targets, if there's anything left after to conduct recon on this strike.

Strike is over. Complete success. All air defence battalions have been annihilated to the very last vehicle. The captured SA5 didn't even pose resistance as it got destroyed by seaskimming missiles. I am now beggining mopup operations, consisting of a 4ship flight of F16s and a SHARP hornet. In the end, the number of missiles I fired was just 10-15 higher than necessary to breach the defense, a margin I am willing to accept though I'm not sure the taxpayer will.

The OPFOR remnants were splashed in a textbook manner. After conducting a JSTARS pass of the Crimean peninsula I declare my objectives complete.

The operation went swimmingly. The unfortunate loss of one F15E was a 1 in 100 hit which I could've done little to prevent. I'm going to be hopeful and assume they have been rescued by USS Truxtun, along with dozens of Russian pilots floating off the coast of Romania.

Points to improve are:
- Improve micromanagement of AAW forces during the air engagement. This could've saved the lost Strike Eagle.
- Improve planning of ASuW strike. The strike did not destroy all of the ships in one pass because I accidentally left a 4ship flight of ASuW Hornets circling around the carrier. Perhaps using missions would help with this.

Points to sustain are:
- Good use of assets overall. The use of a smaller strike to locate the SAM sites meant that I could use one big strike to destroy all of the sites at once.
- Good tactics and foresight during the air battle allowed me to organise a successful defense, putting most planes at the important points in the battlespace.

I play DCS myself, because I just got into this flying stuff. I tried BMS and I love it, but I don't have that much time on hands to study f-16.

All I can suggest is try both, there is steam sale currently for dcs modules, so I suggest you to get FC3(F-15C, Mig-29S/G/A, Su-27/33/22.) for ~20$
If you like CAS get a-10c it's ~20$ too.
FC3 is easy to get in, so it's starting point for most people.
P.S. If you study BMS, check video tutorials, not pdf, because pdf sucks for newcommers.

Hunter-killer teams of recon vehicles and ATGMs are strongly effective in the right terrain. In the north, they've already wiped out a company of Scimitars and a platoon of Challengers.

The lead elements of Panzerregiment 22 attack from the south. A Mechanized Infantry Company was forced off of their positions and the SPz BMP company is expected to cross the river soon to capture Bergen. Heavy resistance is expected further west, and our T-72s are preparing accordingly.

Our hunter-killers run into the rest of the Challenger Squadron and are mostly wiped out. Only a recon platoon, SPAT section, and the AD section remain. They will be recombined into the last team, where they continue harassing Anglo support assets. They've done their job well of screening for the lead elements of MSR-9, East Germany's only BMP-2 equipped unit.

In the south we have joined battle proper. II. Abteilung has joined the fray and is ordered to rush into covered positions from which they can lay siege to Bergen. I. Abteilung is ready for the assault, but recon found that the enemy forces have retreated into Bergen in order to form a hedgehog defense there. So, instead they will pursue and attack directly into Bergen itself, hopefully supporting the BMP infantry as they struggle with the enemy there. Speaking of the BMPs, first Kompanie has been effectively wiped out, only it's PKM section remains. Second Kompanie has made it inside Bergen and dismounted, but has lost most of it's BMPs to MILAN fire. Third Kompanie is still crossing - here we can note the differences in movement types: Assaulting and Hasty units will use their amphibious qualities to cross a bridge, but Deliberately moving units will always summon the (abstracted) engineers to construct a bridge first.

A flight of Harriers attempted to attack PzR 22's HQ, but all were downed by Shilka and Strela fire before they could do any damage.

The last SPW-40P2 AT-5 goes down, leaving the north neutered for now. We'll worry about them again when I./MSR-9 shows up.

In the south, it's a slaughter. Dug in their fortifications, Challengers and MILAN teams are making mincemeat of our armor. II. Abteilung has been reduced to just 5 tanks (16% of original strength) and the third BMP Kompanie has only it's support assets remaining. Foolishly, I laid down smoke, forgetting that it is useless against NATO's thermal optics.

III. Abteilung has showed up and is being re-routed west to try and use Hasselhorst as cover so they can move in closer to the Challengers where they have some hope of wounding the heavily armored British tanks.

III. Abteilung reaches it's positions and begins supporting fires. They destroy a Mechanized Company, but lose 9 tanks in the process to the Challengers.

I. Abteilung finally moves in - the lead Kompanie is brutalized by MILAN fire and cannot advance. The two other Kompanies receive this information and automatically choose different routes to attack from.

MSR-9 is 9 minutes out. We need their artillery support.

MSR-9 arrives. Not only do we have a fresh BMP Battalion, we also have their full RAG support - 2 batteries of D-74s, and one battery of 2S1.

PzR-22's RAG has destroyed the enemy MILANs in the north. The way is open for I./MSR-9's BMPs to assault. However, their combat readiness is low and the troops are exhausted from the long road march. We know that Bleckmar is safe from prying eyes (And thus shells), so they will be ordered to rest and refit there, preparing for the assault. While they are getting ready, the RAG begins preparation fires for the next hour - their goal is to destroy any remaining AT assets, force defenders from their positions, and suppress anything else. With the enemy mortars destroyed and local air support shot down, the Anglos haven't a chance of counter-battery.

Meanwhile, I. Abteilung follows through with the assault and closes within 1km of the enemy - at this range the Challengers are finally vulnerable to T-72 fire. They can't be frontally killed, but at this range it is much easier to exploit flanks and achieve precision hits - the gunners will aim for mobility kills.

I./PzR-22's HQ is bodied. All Panzer units coalesce under II.'s HQ, and all are ordered to begin a full frontal assault as the British retreat deeper into the town. The remnants of PzR-22's BMPs regroup and push from the south. with two RAGs supporting us, it's expected that the artillery fire will suppress the enemy into submission. Regardless, we have sustained 50% casualties at this point and are not considered combat effective once the battle concludes.

The British units have all retreated to the town center right now. They've only made themselves easier targets for the artillery. All available guns are given Neutralizing Fire orders onto the same 500 SQM hex. Let's play with the math a bit -

36 guns are ordered to empty their (recently replenished) racks on target and can deliver these payloads in roughly an hour:
20 2S1s - 800 shells
12 D-74s - 600 shells
6 Tundschas - 360 shells

1760 shells. Each has an average HE payload of 3.675 TNT equivalent. We're dropping about 6.3 tons on their heads, still far short of a nuke, and also short of the BLU-82 Daisy Cutter.

Everything that's not artillery or a SAM has been told to push into the town center. We're now committing everyone and everything - all they have left is a handful of Mech sections, one AT platoon, and about two troops of Challenger tanks. We will drown them in bodies in addition to shells, now.

A BMP platoon moves up and and RPG gunner destroys the southern Challenger troop. The enemy CO is obliterated by artillery fire and their ATGMs are just too suppressed to do much of anything. On the other hand, we've lost 88% of our tanks and our entire force is at 35% strength. I am still confident that we will be victorious.

The remaining Challengers are destroyed by RPGs and T-72 fire, but not before claiming 5 more tanks.

MSR-9 enters the town from the north but faces stiff resistance from British stragglers. The BMP-2 Kompanie has not even seen any action by the time the objective is captured at 1154 hours. With this and the enemy CO dead, the game ends.

We achieve a 57% rating - although we captured the objective and near-destroyed the enemy force, we suffered far too many losses for this to be considered a real victory. Strategically, it is a draw.

27% of our losses are permanent and cannot be returned to duty. This includes dead men, dead crews, and catastrophically destroyed vehicles.
45% of our losses are merely "fallen out" - this includes wounded men, damaged but repairable vehicles, and other casualties that can be returned to the front by tomorrow.
Since we're Warsaw Pact, we're concerned about how many tanks we will have for the next battle: 64 T-72s were totally destroyed, 22 suffered mobility kills or other damage, and only 9 are unscathed. Our tank regiment has been reduced to one battalion.

MVP unit - RC/Panzerregiment 22. 3 BRM-1Ks destroyed 4 Warriors, 2 Scimitars, and 4 MILAN teams. At least one BRM was still on the field by the end of the battle.

there are cheaper games that are better at ww2 than dcs. i mean you can buy il2bos for 60 dollars, get 8 planes, and the map. dcs is 60 dollars per plane, 60 for the map, 20 for the map assets for the map.

My dream is for there to be so many mods for FSX that one day you can fly anywhere in the US or Europe and what you see will be largely indistinguishable from the real world buildings and topography.
>>
Okay, been looking at rise of flight, but:

Is it good? How accurate are it's physics and models?

Is it actively being developed, or are the devs done with it?

Is there a better alternative now, or in the foreseeable future?
>>
>>181610375
I'm still a big fan of Wings over Flanders Field over RoF. RoF is more accurate, I think, but WoFF is no pushover in that department and has a top tier dynamic campaign. It is getting old in the tooth though, its basically a supermod for combat flight simulator 3 iirc

We likely won't ever see any serious civil sims alongside combat sims. Most of the airline manufacturers have clauses in their licenses that state their planes must not explode in games.
>>
>>181638828
Oh so that's the reason there's no explosions in fsx
>>
>>181629223
Yeah it has quite the learning curve.
>>
>>181638898
Supposedly this clause came about after 9/11 but it's on a per plane basis. I'm guessing that the absence in FSX is more down to the fact that they don't really have a need to explode.
