Foot of the High Wall bonfire could probably be done away with. Vordt's bonfire to Undead Settlement bonfire is already pretty short in terms of distance, but the cutscene that actually takes you to the Settlement and the portcullis with the dogs both eat up enough time to be annoying.

The dogs themselves are enough of a threat to newer players on NG with relatively low amount of Estus they have at the time that I think the Undead Settlement bonfire would still be warranted. Not to mention ease of access when warping.

If your stats are leaning Str, the Battle Axe is probably the best weapon to be using now (unless your stats are high enough to 2h the Zwei). If you're leaning Dex, you have a few options, the best of which are probably the Spear/Winged Spear and the Uchigatana if you're willing to murder the merchant. If they're more equal, the Longsword.

Longsword and Battle Axe drop from hollows that wield them. Spear does as well, or you can buy it from the Merchant. Winged Spear and Zweihander can be looted from the graveyard, which means you should be prepared for a suicide run if you want them.

I'll be honest, I prefer Dark Souls 1 PvP to every other game, despite the backstab meta. It was flawed but the game just felt right, everything felt like it had the right weight to it. Combat feels good to me still.

Granted it is dated in some respects, but I kind of like that feeling to it as well. It's lack of polish is charming in a way, unlike later games, where I find it annoying.

I'm not saying Dark Souls one was the best balanced game, but I just find it the most fun. It's the most technically engaging to me, the fights I had in that game in it's heyday were the most enjoyable to me. I loved seeing all the silly builds too and the meta builds. After DS1 and DeS he got recruited to work on guides for DS2 and BB, his wife got two miscarriages while he was working on the BB guide and this caused him to not enjoy BB that much despite the game being good. I'm inclined to agree and it shows in what fights people tend to remember the most fondly. Artorias, Orstein and Smough, Nito, Gwyn from Dark Souls, and even bosses like Sif or Manus can also be thought of similarly, though they border on the creature/monstrosity side as well. Whereas bosses like Gaping Dragon, Seath, Sanctuary Guardian, Bed of Chaos, while remembered for being "cool enemies" are some of the more boring fights in the game.

Same in Demon's Souls, you've got False King Allant, the Old Hero, Penetrating Demon, which are fun and engaging fights. You've also got the Old Monk and Maiden Astraea which have you fight against "other players" as well. But fights like the Armored Spider or Dragon God, the things in the Valley of Defilement, the Storm King, while having cool designs or thematic presence, lack technical enjoyment.

But they served to break up the other fights so that ever encounter felt fresh. But it is harder to design such enemies and when your game starts to get exceedingly long, like Dark Souls II, you start to have less of those breakups, making the armored fights feel less unique. On top of that Dark Souls II had, in my view, some very poor creature/monstrosity bosses.

Extremely different games. Nioh is very fast and intense, and the combat is more about perfect timing and combos. Much more about gear than character build, think ninja gaiden mixed with diablo, with a tad of dark souls.

The attunement system feels much more unique than the generic FP bar the DaS3 has. I honestly like it, the clunkiness has a nostalgic old-school feel to it, and the only thing which ruined it in DaS1 was the inability to obtain multiple copies of most spells, as well as the fairly limited spell lists in general. DaS2 did away with all of that, and I think it was an improvement. The FP bar, on the other hand, feels like a streamlined and casualised addition implemented because it was 'easier'. Make WAs use weapon durability again, make broken equipment an actual concern (Though maybe less tedious than it was in DaS2), and bring back attunement.

Closer to the Bloodborne end of the spectrum. Level design is notably worse than any other game in the genre, enemy design is good, but extremely limited and there is a lot of copypasting of assets.

You also forget that hollows can be invaded, even if it's rare, you need to sacrifice effigies to be 100% safe.
The ideal way and how the game works is: default form has no online features besides messages, it can't interact with any players, the player can pay an item tax to interact with other players.
In DaS 2 you need to pay a tax to opt out of interactions, a tax to get those interactions back and a tax to control them. It adds needless mechanics to a system that needed no fixing without really making things better.

1. You have way too many wasted points in Vit and Str if you're only going to use those two weapons. Switch to Mercenary class instead.

2. You don't need that much Endurance just for the Crow weapons, drop it down to around 30 and put those points into Vigor.

I feel like there are a lot of pretty decent weapons/spells that are considered shit by a lot of the community because they aren't very good in 1v1 duels in flat small arenas. For example, Ive been doing sl60 aldrich invades with flashsword and pestilent mercury and have managed to get a lot of mileage out of them. Getting people in the small room next to the illusory wall, casting mercury, and going super aggro with flashsword. Its not amazing or OP or whatever, and t b h Id probably get faster more consistent kills if I just used a 40/40 greatsword build, but thats dumb, and this is fun.

What are some fun builds that you've used that work in world invasions, but maybe not so well in 1v1 arena duels?

It's actually false. You need to specialize in order to actually accomplish anything, but you also need to prepare to deal with things that your build is weak against.

Specializing is where all of the fun can be had in DaS2, because literally any build can be viable and fun except for Faith after all the nerfs it took. The one thing you have to worry about is, the DLCs laugh at spell damage so you need at least one reliable source of physical damage to not bash your head against a wall.

Pestilent mercury is good if you're creative enough to use it properly. Invasions are about whittling away at the hosts estus and phantoms anyway if you aren't using a high damage weapon or are pro as heck at criticals.

Using poison is basically playing a game of "does the host have moss or not?" Since if they have phantoms you can't really be as agressive as you need to be to keep them from curing it. A neat tip is that the WA of storytellers staff inflicts a poison based on max hp thats better than toxic and destroys bosses, and it doesnt need to be upgraded. If you want to use it in pvp then youll have to use something else to build up the poison, then trigger it with the staff, since the cloud it makes is tiny.

Faith is great once you finish your build but it's a struggle to get there since most of the best offensive stuff for Faith is in the Ringed City now. You can get the Saint Bident relatively early though and healing miracles plus Dorhys' Gnawing can carry you through most of the game easily until then.

My post is going to get a little confusing so please be patient.

The friend who did the Siegward quest strangely is the subject of this post.

He got Patches to rescue Greirat so he couldn't buy the Catarina armor until he beat Sulyvahn, then gave it to Siegward.

At this point, you'd meet him in the kitchen, but he forgot and went directly into Irithyll Dungeon. I mean no big deal, you only miss his collaboration with Yhorm, right?

The confusion starts now. He should be in his cell here in the Profaned Capital, right? He wasn't. He was in the kitchen in Irithyll.

Since i can't get a confirmation for another 9 hours, i wanted to ask if anyone knew if the quest will now proceed normally or if he has to kill him in the cell.

Just talk to him in the kitchen and move him, then check the cell. You shouldn't need to kill him, in all probability it'll just skip straight to the "Thank you, take this Slab" dialogue.

The only thing you "need" to worry about is if your friend went into Yhorm's boss room at all prior to this. Siegward only shows up for the fight (and brings his Storm Ruler and lets you get his armor and Siegbrau afterward) if you enter it for the first time and he's been freed from Irithyll Dungeon.

It's not so bad now that Bident has okay scaling, no offensive miracle is really worth the FP and Stamina costs until you get over 35 faith anyway.
But yes, caster builds are generally pretty terrible until you start getting to a high enough level where you can manage VIG, ATN, END and your magic stat at a reasonable level. It really sucks that stamina costs for many spells is so high when you're already at the disadvantage of having to pump levels into attunement on top of your other stats.

You'll probably have trouble with Dancer, Friede and Midir, but the rest are fine. If you forgo even fatrolling then Nameless King could probably also give you trouble because of how hard-hitting some of his attacks are, and then there's also Homoprinces with the massive wave beam attack that Lorian does.

But a greatshield build will trivialize a bunch of otherwise difficult bosses, like Champ, DSA, Demon Princes and even Gael.

You can get those from Irina if you don't mind the bad end to her quest, plus you can get Dorhys' Gnawing which is a direct upgrade to Gnaw right away in irithyll.

My Pyro build has been doing decently so far, only thing that gave me trouble was Pontiff due to how he danced all around the room and constantly dodged my fireballs. Pyromancies synergize well with melee combat so it isn't like a Faith build with only 12 Str that can't even wield a greatsword properly.

Part of the problem with Faith is, as highlighted, the PvE progression for getting useful Miracles is utter dogshit, you only get the useful shit near the end of the game. At least with Sorceries you get two scrolls and a decent trainer before leaving Farron Keep, and Pyromancies give you virtually everything by the time you finish Smouldering Lake.
