is it possible to do laneswaps in LoL?
for example, in dota2 the lanes are very flexible. you can send two people mid, in the case of tiny+wisp, send 3 heroes to one lane to guarantee the hard carries farm, send just one person to each lane with two people roaming, etc.

is it possible to do this in league, or it is simply impossible due to lack of money/experience from kills + constantly getting reported for not going to your ""designated"" lane

just from a cursory look at different heroes, Cho'Gath, Jayce, Pantheon, Rammus, Nautilus, and Xin Zhao all looked like they would be good at being level 1/2 roamers. In dota, you would smoke onto the midlane, which means that you use an item which makes you invisible until you get close to an enemy, then kill the enemy midlaner, or at least harass them into returning home

additionally, why is teleport+cleanse not used by everybody? is CC simply not used very much in LoL? BKB is a huge part of dota, making you immune to CC and magic damage for 10s upon first cast, and teleportation wins games. if anything, the support players should take teleport in order to help their midlaner/offlaner when they are getting ganked

Cleanse isn't used every game because a lot of the cc in the game is pretty weak or doesn't last very long. Also, people tend to layer their spellso on top of each other. Removing one spell doesn't mean much when you have five move flying at you.

why are lanes so static?
it would seem like some heroes would do better in a 1v1 situation, and yet it appears that the midlaner is always a scaling magic damage dealer.

similarly, why dont midlaners get items that heal? Redemption seems similar to mek in dota, and since it costs no mana to use, why not get it on a large tanky midlaner who just wants to sit there and take a tower? there was a period of time in dota where rushing mek on your mid hero was so powerful that mek was nerfed extremely severly, just to prevent midlaners (who traditionally didnt have very large mana pools) from purchasing it, freeing up gold and slots on the support

it just seems like everything is supposed to scale in LoL, whereas in dota there are heroes that are essentially designed to fall off later, albeit with a timeless ability such as Ice Blast, Flaming Lasso, Chronosphere, Black Hole, etc.

Xin might be the easiest with the earliest map pressure, and he's undualable early game as a plus. His clears are slow as shit til tiamat however so you'll really need to get kills on your early lvl 3 ganks. WW, Vi, Elise and Zac if he's not banned for some reason are all good too.

Items are champ dependant, red smite is usually first rush for everyone though. Routes are 3 camps and a gank or full clear, saving a smite for krugs because they take forever early clears. Don't do krugs for 3 camp gank clears, don't do raptors early if your champ doesn't have aoe and/or you suck at kiting. Raptor start is most experience if your midlane has an aoe though (galio, ekko etc) or you can solo it.

League with bkb would be broken because as I said before cc is much much weaker than in dota. Everything is much more reliant on mid-fight positioning and sidesteps than item effects. Even if you get memed on by a devastating combo, you have Zhonyas and guardian angel to negate the effects. also, depending on the champion, sometimes splitting alone is NOT what you want to do. particularly as a squishy ad carry, advertising your position to enemies and also going out alone is dangerous.

mobility creep is a huge issue in this game, which is why it's balanced around flash. it's a vicious cycle in a way

Mid lane is the shortest and safest lane to farm in and putting a mage there allows them to scale with both level and farm over the rest of the map. Top lane you generally have a tank/initiator because they can survive the longer lane easier than a squishy mage.

Mages also do usually as much as the AD carry if not more because of their AoE potential so building heal oriented items on them is wasted damage potential, particularly since it isn't really much more efficient than just getting healing/shielding items on your support.

And we've gone through various rotations of tanky midlaners or buying tank stats on all mages because it was so broken. That's why Athene's/Rylais was changed and why MR runes were nerfed. But right now since mana costs are nearly non existent on a lot of popular mid laner champs you would get poked hard out of lane if you pick a tanky melee not named Galio.

You have to realize that mobility is king in League. Having a short range blink to get on to an enemy carry or for a carry to get out of range of enemy abilities is far more important than the splitpushing potential that comes with TP. Also TP generally requires some level of coordination for your team which doesn't exist outside of pro play.

League also doesn't have buybacks, so running the risk of dying mid/late because you have no escapes can literally end the game for your team incredibly easy. Very few carries have hard CC or invisibility to start with, and its usually on a very long CD, or takes time to activate.

duo bot lane came around because it creates more pressure on dragon since it's easier to take with 2 laners + jungler than 1 laner + jungler. this was back when dragon gave global gold so it was really imporant.

now depending on the dragon type it's not always as important as the rift herald (which is borderline retarded, but that's another issue) but now you essentially have to go 2 bot because there's a 99.999% chance the enemy team is going to send 2 bot and you'll be immediately putting yourself at a disadvantage if you send a solo laner bot.

also due to how strong towers are early, the 2v1 top lane won't really do much since the 1 can just farm safely under turret and level up quicker than the 2 without having to worry about a dive.

Flash is better than it would be in Dota and cleanse is worse because most spells are skillshots or very positioning reliant. Not taking flash means that you couldn't guarantee to dodge a spell that would kill you and taking cleanse wouldn't be worth while outside of specific matchups because you can dodge most CC and in a lot of cases if you're in position to get hit by it in the first place you're already dead. In addition the way lanes are set up reduces the need to take cleanse. ADC always has a support that can protect them if they get CC'd and if they get CC'd they're usually dead even with cleanse; in addition heal is extremely useful there moreso than anywhere else because it heals two people and that's the only lane with two people most of the time. Even further ADC has access to an item that works just like cleanse. Top lane is either very tanky or very mobile and often takes a boot upgrade that reduces CC so it wouldn't be worth while there either. In mid lane ignite is needed to get kills in the early game because most hero's kits aren't capable of finishing the enemy off on their own before six or barrier is needed in order to prevent that. Mid laners that take teleport are almost always ones that are also very hard to gank due to a combination tankiness in build, mobility, CC, immunity and revival mechanics. Mid lane is the only lane where cleanse is used commonly because ignite and barrier isn't as useful in higher levels of play where people have proper damage foresight and it's one of the most susceptible to being ganked and even then only against teams with a lot of hard to dodge CC.

The trick is to never really try to win lane unless you're 100% sure your ADC is thirsty. Most low elo ADCs I've seen have been beaten like red-headed step children so many times that they're actually scared to go in, and they also are not anticipating you to create opportunities they won't fuck up.

To remedy this, play Leo and rush mobis and gank mid and top. Help your jungle counter jungle. Solo laners are extremely thirsty and will eagerly follow up any gank you set up even if the odds of success are suicidally low.

A good roaming Leo can easily carry herself to plat before you start actually having to stay bot

Wards are baseline on every champion and their cooldown is around the same as how long they last. Pink wards can be bought but they're also visible so they aren't worth buying outside of high elo because if you get ganked you can just flash to safety and people will just kill your pink wards and waste your money.

Even back when supports were ward whores, they had to have at least 2-3 Gp5 items to keep up enough gold to ward, and only a few of them were strong enough to not need many items (ali and janna come to mind)

at level 1 in dota you can probably take like 5 turret hits and walk away

lategame you can essentially ignore them on most heroes, they are only there to kill creeps. at that point the only thing that will give you trouble is the fountain where you spawn at, but even then it isnt uncommon for somebody to kill you over and over whilst tanking it

in dota 1 kill = ~10+ creeps, depending on how much money they have, killstreaks, etc.
except when you kill an enemy, they have to walk back, and lose out on all that XP and gold, which is why the #1 goal of the offlane is to simply not die, it doesnt matter if you dont get any gold since you will get XP which means levels which means you can just stun people in the midgame and get money from teamfighting/jungling

pugna is an immoble "midlaner" who pushes towers, is one of the weakest heroes in the game, and does fine without a blink/force.

All the wards in the world don't matter if you're an immobile midlane mage with no flash. Half the matchups can poke you under tower and if your flash is down, Lee or similar will just walk right up and dive you under tower once you get low enough. Every time this happens it becomes easier and easier for them to repeat, and then before you know it you've lost the game. Clearly youve never played any games of lol or you'd know this. Its why blowing an enemies flash is just about as valuable as a kill in pro games, because it sets them up to be fucked if they aren't someone like a leblanc, fizz or Ahri.

Trilanes fall off in experience really hard, an interesting question could be why we send 2 people bottom and 1 mid instead of the other way around. Well, it's harder to zone people out of XP midlane because of the length between towers, so the person that's alone bottom is going to be more fucked than the person that's alone in the middle.

Roamers work in DotA because getting a kill is worth the tradeoff of the loss of experience, it was experimented here for a while but the meta enforcers changed how gold generating items work making it way less appealing early.

One difference with DotA is that the distance between lanes is shorter, so teleport loses a bit of value. Everyone has infinite free Town Portal scrolls that take 8 seconds to channel by pressing B. Flash + teleport is sometimes seen on midlaner and toplaner and it's pretty decent. Playing without flash is seriously hell on most champions and if you play 50 games without it you'll see why.

Cleanse is seen rarely midlane, and even more rarely bottom, agreed that they could be underrated and having heal on the support while the ADC takes cleanse deserves a closer look. However, there's an item called Quicksilver Sash that has a similar effect to cleanse, while effects like Exhaust or Barrier or Heal (remember that it also gives a burst of movespeed) are more unique.

Everyone except low elo already uses wards. You also have to realize that not only people are more mobile in league but also faster. Its very common that come midgame people can rotate from mid to bot in 15-20 seconds max, so you have to really be paying attention to the minimap. If someone has been gone for over 10 seconds, they can be anywhere
