The war does not go well boys. Ever since the extra dimensional horror pulled itself into my universe it has slowly been consuming worlds. Its already consumed three empires. My federation declared war on it to protect the galaxy but its mulched our fleets. I just now finished rebuilding but my federation members have not. I think were going to need to pull in a fallen empire but none of them have awakened yet and probably wont for a long while.

I'm so frustrated that this happened. Everything was super fine, and I was Terra-forming everything to be barren to only allow robot life. My custom species was set to religious and both industry and war made them more religious too, so it was fucking foolproof until some god damn event.

Aight so, for people who don't know what C2C is
Observe the top right and notice the date.
Anyway so, since I start on caves, I research Nomadic Lifestyle. I do this because Nomadic Lifestyle leads directly to Cave Dwelling, which is very important to get rid of the Housing (Homeless) you see was automatically built in my first city, and gain the massive buffs having caves next to me should give.
You'll also notice that my unit has a 'promotion' that gives it +1 movement at the cost of strength. I'm using this because early game, scouting is more important than fighting, and because aggressive animals don't spawn until later (and this guy can't beat them anyway). There's another version that's +2 movement for -50% strength, but it's too risky because he'll get unironically killed by a monitor lizard.
I'm also building an Alpha Male, because it gives me an early hammer, and in C2C's early game the hammer is king - food just gets wasted by Unhealth, and there's no easy ways to boost commerce.
>>
>>180330920
building redundant happiness buildings is an effective, though somewhat expensive, method of combatting overexpansion penalty
also, if you're planning on going as wide as 25+ planets, you should try not to over-rely on the religious forced contentment law because events and shifting game states can force it out of the government - especially since the religious party is obnoxiously difficult to get in power
don't knock the transvine system improvement - 25 happiness is a lot, and two instances of it in your improvement plans means it just nullified the effects of 5 whole systems over the cap

Got a free healer unit from a goodie hut. Healer units obviously heal your troops, but more importantly, they can reduce disease. Since a Wise Woman is a shit-tier early game healer, she can't do much - but it's still better than nothing.

So animals have started spawning. This means that next turn, I'm taking off his fast movement promotion, as he might fokken die to raccoons otherwise.
Also, in between this shot and the last, another goodie hut gave me Language, the other starting tech choice; this means I made my first civic change so my people are speaking in, well, speech, instead of grunting.

We've finished our first building; there is now a huge chinese guy in the middle of the tribe taking Wu's ass every morning. Now, I'm going to start working on an Alpha Female, but in reality this is just putting the hammers to use; as soon as Nomadic Lifestyle is researched, the build of greatest import is the Wanderer, which moves fast (ergo a scout) and has a defensive bonus against animals.
>>
>>180332856
It depends on the game. Older games often have no way to come back, so you might as well GG and give up.

Newer games have comeback mechanics, like
>other races befriend you because you are weak and no threat to them.
>small races get huge boost to economy/tech
>smaller races can win fights though stupid ammounts of micro.

If you are playing an older 4x...just give up. Or stellaris. In stellaris each "war" has one real fight, that then decides who will win that war. You can only war once every 10 years and you can't take more than like 10 planets per war.

Stupid mechanic to compensate for the pointless combat mechanics imo.

Now! Exciting things.
First off you'll notice my city is no longer a one-tile thing. In C2C, you need 80 Culture to have a city radius at all. Now that it's expanded, the city is able to actually work tiles.
Furthermore, I've selected the Evolving Leaders option with Start with No Traits. This means leaders gain positive and negative traits over time.
Right now I'm going to take humanitarian. By giving myself more health, I can leverage my Caves to grow to actual complete health very quickly, and begin growing a hundred or more turns ahead of schedule. This obviously puts me ahead of the competition caves fucking broken as shit

>goodie hut gives me 210 research towards Cave Dwelling
Epic
Also, notice why I call it broken. This is in an era where +1 hammer takes 10+ turns to build and there's not that many buildings to begin with. This is for FREE. The other two "housing" autobuildings, Tree Hollow and Animal Burrow, give nothing and +1 unhealthiness respectively - better than the +2 unhealthiness Housing (Homeless) gives, but a far cry from what this is giving me. And it's free.
We move to Gathering now, which is the equivalent of Farming. You'll notice there are no resources visible on the map (the things that might look like them are actually map features that allow certain buildings in your cities). Gathering reveals a shitton of agricultural and otherwise "lol just lying there" resources.

I have Barley, which is okay, and LEMONS, which is amazing, as it permanently disables Scurvy outbreaks / autobuilds for my ships / cities.
Now, notice the gatherer sitting on the barley. Gatherers are Workers, with two differences - firstly, they're girls and kind of hot for being low-poly models. Secondly, they're consumed when they build, as presumably they sit there picking at the ground forever or some shit. I got a free gatherer from a goodie hut, and Gathering gives you a free gatherer (or two, if you're the first to discover it).

It was the dawn of the third age of mankind – ten years after the Earth-Minbari War.

The Babylon Project was a dream, given form. Its goal: to prevent another war, by creating a place where humans and aliens can work out their differences peacefully. It's a port of call – home away from home – for diplomats, hustlers, entrepreneurs, and wanderers.

Humans and aliens, wrapped in two million, five hundred thousand tons of spinning metal . . . all alone in the night.

It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last best hope for peace.

This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is 2258. The name of the place is Babylon 5.

whats the cheesiest victory you can grab on the higher difficulties of ES2? I assume economy doesn't work that well with all the bonuses the AI gets.
>>
>>180350457
Nah, economic is still it. AI is not really making good use of trade routes compared to what a knowledgeable player can accomplish.
>>
>>180350457
Economic victory is still broken easy to achieve on Endless difficulty. Despite the AI bonuses they're still not good at optimizing trade routes. You'll probably get one or two "nearing victory" warnings for fucking AI Cravers due to combined difficulty and depletion bonuses, but once you get your own trade routes going you'll surpass them easily. For added cheesy bonus get Pacifists leading the senate and peace treaties with everyone, because the AI are easy as shit to bribe friendly for the entire game.

>>180351182
Obviously. They have +Dust pops, their quest gives fucking +7 / turn on every single luxury deposit (that you can sell to market and use the Dust to upgrade trade routes even more) and they can build one additional trade route. You'll be swimming in Dust and hitting 999 cap of luxury resources every few turns, even if you don't buy luxury resource freighters. Unfallen are also good for economic victory due to starting with Pacifists in the senate and having pretty much permanent empire wide Ecstatic (for +30% Dust bonus).

Not that Economic victory is even remotely hard with any other faction either, those two are just even better at it.

Generally you want it every game, but sometimes, very rarely, you don't have excess dust or resources and as such you can't take advantage of it. I haven't played EL in quite a while so I can't give you a solid example, but ES2 I sometimes skip it when playing factions that focus away from dust like riftborn and empire because I'm simply not making enough dust and lux to bothe trading it.

Each ES2 faction has one victory outro movie, but different voiced narration depending on whether you
-didn't complete the Academy quest or completed it on Defender side
-completed the Academy quest on Rejuvenator side
United Empire is the only exception and they technically get three outro movies, but it only changes Zelevas' uniform depending on whether you went UE / Sheredyn / Mezari path. The narration again depends on the outcome of the Academy quest. You can open the .xml subtitle files normally and they're stored in the same path as the video files themselves.

>>
>>180358961
Yeah. What bothers me the most about the Academy quest is that it seems the Unfallen are literally the only faction who could have a real motive for siding with Isyander's scheme considering their Heart is a Lost as well. All other Rejuvenator side faction outros are basically
>"lol we just resurrected gods for NO RETURN whatsoever, let's ignore them and let them do their thing / let's try to surpass them anyways"
Fuck, the Riftborn and Craver endings in particular basically say that they simply don't care. Kind of beats the point of picking Rejuvenator side, doesn't it?
>>
>>180358769
Usually I'd recommend playing vaulters until you can curbstomp Endless AI with them but since you already seem to have some experience, I would instead advise faction you enjoy playing most and not switching to others from it until you are very comfortable with it. This is because while there are similarities expansion and development patterns, are different for different factions but tend to be more or less the same. between games of the same faction. 2nd era is pretty early so I advice making sure you follow this general rules in early game:
1) Minor factions can be of great benefit. If you can snag one with an easy quest prioritise that region for expansion.
2) Build your capital in industry rich area. Not having enough industry can be an early game death sentence for a run.
3) Try to have your first expansion just after your first empire plan.
4)Make sure you have strong enough army to deal with any interference from neutrals/AI

Once you can reliably follow these your playstyle should noticeably improve. If you tell us your preferred faction someone might be able to provide more detailed advise.

>>180358495
In endless games - there are different bonus and narrative results of faction quests but but oucome of campaign at large is usually inflenced by meta story, assuming you win of course.
>>
>>180359256
Thanks anon, already from those videos I've found something that'll improve how I've been playing (don't beeline anomalies with districts, make sure your districts level) and I'll try to focus on industry a lot more for my capital.

I don't really have a favourite faction yet, but I'll take your advice for Vaulters as I try to git gud.
>>
>>180359251
Here are some factions that might follow rejuvinator side narratively:

Heretic Vodyani
Rage against machine Cravers
Pacifist riftborn
I'm sure there are other factions for whom it would make sense, but I haven't yet finished ever faction so who the hell knows.

But gameplay wise I agree, the whole thing feels halfway cooked. They probably should introduce scaling rewards based on how many people are in your faction vs total players and joining factions should be done publicly in order of score so that you could have insentive to join faction opposite of your enemies.
>>
>>180359251

>>
>>180359574
I think gameplway wise they should tone the number of lodestone systems way down. If it was just 1-3 star systems in the center of the galaxy it would actually feel like king of the hill instead of "whack-a-mole with stars".
>>
>>180359635
...steamapps\common\Endless Space 2\EndlessSpace2_Data\StreamingAssets\Movies\Factions

>>180359760
I am not sure what the number currently is and whether or not it scales with galaxy size, but I disagree with the idea that low number of systems is good.

This quest is supposed to be the culmination of the meta story. IT should feel galaxy spanning the sides should have to fight tooth and nail to accomplish it.

Last time I bothered with it I really liked how I had to deal with multiple AI's some of whom hostile having lodestones in their areas of inflence. To accomplish it I had to bribe some of them, outright declare war on others etc. And I thinks that's the way it should be. The biggest problem right now is that AI isn't active enough in it and thus it feels like you are doing a solo quest.

In an MP game or against a decent AI it would take way less effort from any one player since there are others trying to accomplish the same goals, hence idea of rewards scaling with number of participants.

Well? Who should I play first?
>>
>>180359574
Yeah, the biggest issue with Academy endgame is how pointless it is gameplay wise. Sure, it has three whopping cutscenes dedicated to it and also changes your own faction's outro movie narration, but the actual rewards are so minuscule they may as well not be there.

>1000 Dust, 800 Science, 75 of Adamantium or Anti-Matter (fucking second tier strategic resource)
>no changes in the galaxy
>that's literally fucking it

No point whatsoever in dropping whatever you're currently doing. In comparison EL's final quest was a victory condition that won you the game if you completed it first. If not outright victory, ES2's endgame Academy quest should at least give some sort of massive unique rewards or pose big maluses on the losers so you'd actually have some incentive to participate.

The quest itself also triggers way too late in comparison to non-militaristic victory conditions and the game is pretty much always already over before the last step triggers unless you're purposefully delaying your own victory.
>>
>>180360556

vaulters and wild walkers are the babbymode no effort factions
>>
>>180360605
That's not quite true. Playing either right is very hard, much the same as other factions. The reason they are good for newbies is that playing them wrong is hard too.
>>
>>180360556
if you click on your faction portrait you get brought to a more in-depth faction select screen
if you don't know shit about EL, wild walkers and vaulters are the most basic factions; once you learn how to play the game properly with one of them, choose whichever faction you like the sound of most
>>
>>180360556
Wild Walkers are the easiest faction for beginners. Their Industry bonus is really easy to understand and something that is always useful no matter what you're doing and their starting ranged units are fantastic, easing early game fights as well. Vaulters are also on the easier to grasp side, but their Holy Resource mechanic and Technolover trait on all their units are more non-standard.

Also, Mezari are literally just a Vaulter reskin, they have the same main quest, units, techs, unique abilities etc.
>>
>>180359574
What do we even know about the lost other than that the endless murdered them to take control of Dust? I havent played the Vodyani heretic side or any of the Unfallen campaign so I dont know if they reveal anything

The academy quest also sucks because it screws over hero recruitment and thats a very interesting part of the game.

From Vodyni Heretic arc: apparently the Dust, in it's origianla form was part of the Lost physical form, probably after virtualisation of their own, tho that's me speculating . So they the endless din't simply kill them to control it they did so to gather dust from the corpses as it were.

Haven't played Unfallen either so can't comment about what can be learned from their quest..

I haven't completed the Vodyani faction quest (neither path) even once because their last chapters have such ridiculous demands. Unfallen faction quest doesn't reveal anything other than that their Heart is a Lost survivor, but the Unfallen themselves don't know what its motives are either. The quest ends at pic related.

The Church Vodyani side is basically them being extremely intolerant of any form of questioning their faith, or even philosophical discussion and explanation of it to lesser races. They grow ever-so-fanatical and the church is extremely oppressive towards anyone who does not follow the orders perfectly to the letter, and it just ends with them proclaiming the supremacy of their church and how it is their divine right to do whatever the fuck they want as they become the new gods. We learn nothing about the Lost other than they are considered demons that spout heresy.

No idea what the heretic one is like.

The game is clearly not realistic when it comes to humans.

All OP needed to do (if the game was realistic) was to prove that the demise of his foes would make lots of money to the kikes. The FE would fall during the next 5 years. Not sure how but it would (a fleet of 300 million would magically appear).

Neanderthal Culture is actually kind of unique - instead of actually giving you any specific special units like english longbows or keshiks, it gives a bunch of Neanderthal versions of early units, which cost more hammers (~30 more it looks like) but have +1 strength. They didn't "hike" the prices, they've just adjusted the price to the current exchange rate because the ruble is in rubbles since 2014. Valve itself didn't adjust and instead region-locked russian-bought gifts completely, but in the end the publisher decides if it wants to adjust or not. Besides, the swedes need A LOT of money to pay tax-funded refugee asylums, so they didn't have problems adjusting the price for some 3rd worlders.

The effective income of the Russian citizen has not grown, the price hike was real and nearly doubled. For most people as far as I can tell, there was no increase in disposeable income, and there may have even been a decrease. It was, in fact, a price hike. That Pillars of Eternity jumped something like 60% in China was also unjustified, considering our currency has absolutely not devalued 60% against the dollar since 2014. I honestly sympathise with the Russians, I think the Russians were actually justified in annexing Crimea but people spewing bullshit about sanctions to make people feel sorry for them not being willing to pay is a whole different thing.

If he'd said "Paradox raised the prices in my region and its not reasonable to pay so much of my wage for something that I could lose at any time" instead of sperging out over how the sanctions pages are wrong for consumer services, someone probably would have given him the mod.

It doesn't even make sense for them to keep sanctions secret, our governments want to make a big song and dance about how they are sticking it to the Russians.
>>
>>180366641
Civ 5 isn't really as started based as some 4xes, a shitty start on EL will cripple for the rest of the game but pretty much any non-tundra/snow start can be salvaged in Civ 5.
>>
>>180366829
Depends how wideranging the sanctions are taken to be though. Sanctioning shit like bread is kind of over the top because it hurts the common folk, while this is "dude fuck the guys on top" to uproarious cheering from the crowds.
>>
>>180366248
>The effective income of the Russian citizen has not grown, the price hike was real and nearly doubled
Guess what, the ruble exchange rate doubled compared to 2014, maybe the swedes found out about it only now due to negligible fanbase which pays with rubles.
>>180366605
>Yeah I know, I'm not entirely buying it, but I could still see where he's coming from because honestly from certain points of view, to Russians, it must feel like the US and EU sometimes have nothing better to do than fuck with Russia.

Depends on your civ and game speed a lot.

If you fell for the 4trad tall meme and only play on quick a shitty start can be really devastated.

If you're playing on Marathon and you're gonna go for 100 cities anyways, then you have an easier time to manage.
>>
>>180366897

It's more that it's boring. Your own island in civ 5 gives you dick all to do since they are usually small and nothing but you on your own or a couple city states.

The snow is just aids. It means you spawned in the polar north/south of the map and the majority of nearby land is tundra, which is just shit since you can't build farms on it unless it has a river, which is pretty rare.
>>
>>180366943
>How is it "fucking" with Russia when they do it only when it tries to annex something?
Think about it the events leading up to the annexation and think about why the Russians might believe they haven't done anything wrong.
It's like when you people shout at us for Tibet - from our point of view that's Ming territory that declared a CSA, was never acknowledged, was kicked aside by major powers who recognized it was part of China - and now when it's convenient you shout about how it should be independent. It is literally as if we were saying that the US should release the CSA or that Cornwall deserves to be freed from their English oppressors. Try swapping viewpoints.

The idea behind sanctioning shit like bread is to force regime change, make the conditions as shit as possible for everyone there and apply a bit of pressure in other ways and you force them to either back down or they install a foreign dictator. Thats why you often see medical supplies on embargo lists for countries they really don't like.

NATO allies aren't trying to force a regime change and know its out of reach so they have no reason to embargo every last Russian citizen, the economic and diplomatic damage from it just isn't worth it so the sanctions are aimed at powerful individuals, the military and corporations.

Yeah I know, that's why it's basically there for North Korea.
Which is dumb by the way; the reason NK is so rigorously pressing for nukes and the reason why even us pressing wouldn't work is because Kim feels threatened and thinks the west wants a regime change, and he remembers what happened to Gaddafi when he gave up his nukes.

You people. Fine you want to have this discussion at least get it right. We are engaged in a trade war because the usual kind is not fun with Russia. Your govs sanctioned a bunch of irrelevant shit like Crimean companies and cooperation on Oil matters, tho they later reduced it from a complete ban to denial of high grade tech toys we don't have. In response Russia hit Europe with sanctions on foodstuffs, which we used to import by bucketloads, our gov used this trade war to prop up domestic production, with mixed succes. Yes there was a price hike on food, no it isn't important anymore since it's been replaced with imports from other parts of the world and/or domestic produce. All of these kind of sanctions with EU have long been subverted because, unlike US, EU doesn't update it's sanctions list when russian capital rebrands and relocates their legal HQ from Cyprus to London.

The sanctions that hurt russian economy are the ones on banking since it pays quite well to fuck around in European markets But ultimately, while painful, they can't hold a candle to the hit Rouble took from falling oil prices. And that was a saudi project to fuck with US shale oil ventures, that only hit russia in the form of collateral damage.

You should also be aware that course of Rouble is a largely irrelevant number for purposes that aren't selling oil and buying foreign tech/products, because we are very close to an autarky, compared to most nations, hell our central bank didn't even try to prevent Rouble fall when it was happening because Kremlin decided that it would be more useful to have Oil exports still bring as much roubles as before 2014, since internally value of the currency hasn't changed nearly as much as internationally.

After what was evidently a temporary *mistake* in allocating wonders to players, work continues, and we get our fourth (the third is technically Neanderthal Culture) wonder in Luoyang. Luoyang now houses five hundred people (4 Pop); the closest rival is at a mere one hundred (2 Pop) while the majority of our competition is at fifty (1 Pop). The Chinese will breed everyone to extinction; blame Wu being an insatiable slut.
We've finished researching Trapping and Dance; I don't know what we're dancing to, as we don't have Music yet, but probably just some sort of merry tapping around our firepit and Captured Fire.
Also, we're making money! In C2C, most buildings that boosted commerce instead boost raw gold value (ergo banks do not somehow improve your research). This means I'm actually making more money than I'm spending despite spending 2 gold a turn in building maintenence (lookout post and something else).

I suspect your propaganda outlet forgot to mention Putin denied ANY involvement in Crimea thing. Even though there were soldiers present with russian military equipment during the "referendum". And the "rebels" had access to russian (not USSR) military equipment which they've just stumbled upon in a Ukrainian military depot.

Finally. Not /pol/ discussion. I rejoice. I don't remember where the get rid of religious laws is in the line so I'll just sum up entire thing.

After showing up alone to the heretic "holy site" the hierarch recognises that heretic is kinda right, decides that the Vodyani faith is false and starts working to undermine the Churches hardliners influence in Politics. After doing so she starts consolidating her power and looking into heretic beliefs in more detail. Discovering that endless slew the Lost so they could gain dust for themselves she becomes outraged and starts a campaign of extermination of endless relics, culmianting in destruction of a couple planets. She then conquers the academy removes her brother from power and installs a hero to rule in his stead.

What happens after that depends on your actions during the Academy quest line. The faction quest is deliberately open ended.

The last quote of her in it is of note:
"All must obey my laws", replacing the usual "All must obey the laws".

No shit. The point was that the "lol 5x better" doesn't mean shit when the quality of life of Russia is still incredibly low for how much the natural resources are. The "lol 5x" is one of those "it sounds good" things that state controlled media/propaganda would spew, while conveniently ignoring that Russia's people are somehow incredibly poor compared to how much wealth the country has.

Besides, most of the "russian" elite either have children living abroad or are citizens of EU/America themselves. They won't allow nuke launch even if they were placed on every square meter of russian territory.

The new Thief is terrible to be honest
Now that I've researched both Ritualism and Theft (>researching theft), I can implement both Folklore and Banditry as civics together. Banditry, in particular, is a very good military civic that remains useful all the way to renaissance, depending on your playstyle, as it allows you train criminal units - which are broken, not because they're strong, but because they're invisible, nationality-less, and cause huge debuff on tiles they stand for a long time in. Said tiles include enemy cities.
>>
>>180371572
Singularities aren't really as involved as you might think. It's mostly a drain on your strategic resources that you build to boost your FIDS on a system and forget about until it expires.

Personally, I rationalise it as less of being literally the research of theft, and more of reaching the point where you understand theft as a societal concept - ergo the beginning of private property, "this is my basket, you can't take my basket".

Win the peace.
Currently playing Pacifist, 140 years in, no war, I have one vassal. 20+ worlds. Only FEs are more powerful than me.

My last game in 1.2 I was fanatic pacifist and I ended after 200 years without a war, tons of worlds, tons of tech and like 4 protectorates.

Be influence efficient and use your frontier outposts to grab systems that you can colonize, and sometimes more importantly so that others can't colonize them.

Just before 25000 BC, Luoyang grows to a total headcount of a thousand men, and the borders have expanded yet again. Also, we can choose a new trait (no drawback this time). I chose Philosophical.
Currently, research is heading towards Raft Building, to begin exploring the coastline with Rafts, and also to begin to see if we have any ocean resources to harvest. The Cave of Altamira you see being built will be our 7th wonder; there are two other civilizations with one wonder each.

Why can't we have a mod/update where you set a fleet size and composition, press a button when they need to be replenished, and planetary production will be queued up for you - priority to build ship type given depending on presence of assembly yards.

Ok, but then you would do literally nothing but colonize new planets and then add the colonies to your ALLSECTOR. THere is nothing else to that game. The events don't matter, nothing matters. You just need to colonize everything and focus industry until you can build a fleet big enough to survive the end game crisis.

FFH 2 and C2C are the only reasons I still play Civ 4. It has a lot of overhaul mods. You may as well pirate it, try both those mods, and if you like it buy it off steam or GOG, whichever you prefer.
I personally like it but C2C is one of those "it's either shit or it's amazing" mods.
>>
>>180392125
Not really, its a decent mod but theres far too many features and you'll probably never manage to finish a game with it. Its effectively an expansion for Civ 4 as well so you'd need a few games under your belt first to really enjoy it.

The biggest one is how intrusive the story missions are. I like the idea behind them but they take center stage so hard that its hard to sit back and just manage an empire for me. I like Stellarises approach a lot more. Out side of a few things none of it is timed and the stories told are pieced out to you in bite sized chunks instead of getting 3 screen wide messages every other turn.

From there custom races feel neglected from 1. I loved making races in ES1 but in 2 it feels a lot more toned back and overly balanced.

From th4ere its just a lot of little things that just detract from the experience.

Bribing AIs permanently friendly in ES2 is too easy. Assuming you haven't been annoying them in other ways (colonizing too close, cold war hostility, flying armed ships in their space etc), accepting their tribute or pressure demands usually results in Happy modifier and you can sue for easy peace the next turn, which will turn them into Cordial for the rest of the game. AI in general overvalues luxury and strategic resources even when it has the power to just take all your systems.
>>
>>180407503
This really is a study in contradictions for me. Not only do i find the heavy presence of the quest line pleasant, I find that custom factions are not balanced enough. Don't take this the wrong way, I just find the degree to which our tastes within the same genre diverge amusing. Thankfully with Stellarism ES2 both existing, not to mention numerous other, older, titles, each can find a game more aligned with their preferences.

For me unique questlines and their importance truly breath life into the empires of ES2, turning them from statboxes into societies as it were.

>>
>>180408169
I do to. I actually loved the quests the FIRST time I played ES2 as each faction. I just wish I could I don't know minimize them? Have them take a step back? The reason the rub me the wrong way so much is they make every game as a faction feel really samey. Stellaris has the same events every game but their randomization and chance of popping makes each game feel different while being the same content. I want each galaxy to feel separate. I want each game to be its own story.

Ehh, After first couple playtroughs and exploring all branches of the faction quest I treat them no different than build orders for tech or colony development, so they don't bother me. As to Stellaris - I try not to talk about it too much in any context because I utterly despise that product, for how bland, empty and lifeless it is to me. Not to mention how mechanically unsound it is.

So I'm playing the Caveman2cosmos mod for civ 4 thanks to the lovely anon posting his game and I'm already snowballing. The AI doesn't hunt. I share an island with another civ and noticed he has animals EVERYWHERE on his side of the island. So I took a quick peek at world builder and the fucking map is saturated in animals. I'm building every wonder unopposed and I'm dominating in tech. I was having so much fun up to this point but I can already see how its going to go. I'm just going to utterly steamroll every AI.
>>
>>180366556
For gameplay purposes, no. However, I sometimes play with an RP in mind, like playing some nation like Japan and some shit and I expect to start with some conditions (like starting beside the sea, in some specific terrain or otherwise)

The "quality" of starts don't bother me much since expanding into greener land is always possible (early on)

It has no, scratch that, very little, gameplay worth talking about. Fleet management is pointless chore ultimately involving either baiting retarded AI with transports or just smashing death stacks against one other with no thought involved in combat. Just this thread there was a discussion about how tiresome and pointlessly micro intensvie fleet management is, and the main counter argument was "they won't remove it because iyou won't have anything to do if they did" Given heavy focus on war this is a major issue rendering at least half the game unpalatable for me. But while the most disruptive, this is in no way the only issue I have with stellarises mechanics.

The thing they got more or less right - the planetary management minigame, they decide to kneecap by introducing sectors because for them scale is more impportant than substance here much like it is with fleets. Crucial aspects of it like slavery and ethics drift hasn't worked well for the longest time, and I honestly have no Idea if they fixed them by now, not that it would save the system from plague that is sectors and their retarded AI overlords.

The one aspect of stellaris they did well is exploration, it really does feel good. The only problem for me with it is that after a couple games, no matter how much you randomise those events, it's still the same 3 events over and over, given that mechanically they are almost always boring and unimpactful I find that they quickly become yet another chore.

I appreciate that people who enjoy stellaris enjoy ability it grants to the player to live out a fantasy, in a good sense, of their empire in their own head. The problem with this is that I see no need for an aide to daydream, and for meaninful RP I need human companion(s) or at the very list well scripted storytelling. Neither of which stellaris offers to me.

You don't wanna do that. Cruisers are your main damage dealer, so either 2 kinetic artillery and 2 M plasmas or 1 KA and 4 M plasmas. Best flak is destroyers - 1 L 1 M - kinetic artillery, flak or 2M2S - flak/flak/autocannon/autocannon (or plasma instead of autos).

I have two different destroyers.

L:KA, M: Gauss, and I can just replace the Gauss for flak I guess.

The other destroyer has 1M: Autocannon, 2S: Gauss, 2 PD

Buy a shitload of minerals from the Trade outposts and build everything you'll ever need.
This is how megaengineering works btw
>>
>>180429601
I don't think that's how it works. Vodyani can only work the the normal number of slots on a planet, however, the population cap is determined by system development. This means that even if all the planets in a system are full, an ark can still keep growing population, it's just that the population won't do anything til you move the ark to a system with bigger planets.
>>
>>180430286
So they can have a fixed population on any given Ark, but planets work like everyone else.

What's the maximum pop cap from system/Ark level?

So what?
If they run out, you go to a different empire, if they're also out then you can go to the trader, it's still better to start with another empire.

Your worry is incredibly irrational as it doesn't factor into the result.
