Bow in MH is nothing like bows in any other game, for one thing. Don't use it in 4U though, it does no damage.
Anyway the key thing to remember with ranged is don't just point at the monster's general direction and shoot, if you have any amount of time go in to the scope view and aim for weakspots. Being able to consistently hit weak spots is one of your strengths as a gunner.
Also learn the recipes for combining ammo types and bring them with you, the full stack of ammo you can bring is often not enough.

Eh, it's the best bow for plenty of monsters, but not all of them. Elemental bows shine in plenty of fights, like

and some others. You need a custom set to go with all your elemental bows though, which can be a pain.

His weak point is his chest, which is difficult to hit with weapons that have lots of overhead strikes like hammer.
If you want to melee him you're better off using something that hits low to the ground, like SnS, DB, lance etc.

His head is only a 20% hitzone for impact, so hammer isn't really a great match for him.

But since you're a FU friend, I will tell you that Hammer against Basarios is a poor choice.
Are you Hammer only? If not, try a Dual Blade or a Sword and Shield.
If you're only into Hammer, try picking a Elemental one, might help.
If you have ESP, you can go with any Melee you want.

Also, tell me if you ever want to play Online.

Honestly the only thing that bothers me about World is that there is no blood except for when you remove a limb.

Been playing mh3u on Wii U lately . Never been a fan of the damage sponge bosses and ceaseless Korean mom grind of these games but I'm coming around. I always liked the core combat mechanics and controls. They're nice and weighty. Anyways I've been using Long sword, seems it's frowned upon around here. Why is that? It's nice to have a clear indication of when the monster is close to death since limping only happens on area change and often times the monster will die before even trying to do that, but I would have preferred if they'd just added more "I'm dying squirtle" type animations.

but it's a common newbie trap weapon. People get used to just mashing wildly with it but when monsters have higher stagger limits and do actual damage you get shit on. I know because I used to be a longsword shitter.

I like to recommend hammer to new players, you might spend your first hunt spinning around like a retard, but once you knock out your first Rathian you'll be addicted. Just try it out, to start with just charge pound something in the head until it falls over then triple pound combo it in the face.
