Ronin into Dark Hunter is used for speedruns.

The chances are not high enough to make up for the missing Curse Mastery. Their LUC is also lower but I don't think that is as important.
And of course Survivalists don't have the "fuck off" button that is Creeping Curse.

What you actually want is Elderevenge + Echoing Rondo.
If any of your guild members attack, they will heal themselves with Elderrevenge which activates Echoing Rondo and heals everyone else for about 50% more than Healing Lullaby.
If anyone else attacks after this the character that attacked first gets healed since Echoing Rondo only works once per turn per character.

All the JP wiki says that Soul Liberator takes away the ailment after the damage so you can still get the "kill while ailed" conditionals by killing something with SL.
It says nothing about accumulated resistances either way - maybe it's bugged with sleep? The hit itself removes sleep so maybe it removes the accumulated resistances inctead?
Not sure how something like that could happen but code can break in wonderful ways...

The ultimate sword skill deals actually good damge but disables all your skills for one turn.
So I'd say go Hurricance and Fencer/Double Attack for your off-turn. They are worth it - at rank 20 you will always attack twice and always crit for 170% damage. So 340% damage for no TP cost.

Well Hurricane needs 10 points in Sword Mastery and 5 in Tornado and Falcon Slash. So 18 just to get it (since you get free points in skills in mastery lines) and 27 to master it.
Fencer and Double Strike need 5 in Phys Atk Up so that's another 25.
To get the Chasers you need War Cry 3 and Triple Charge 3 which need HP Up/TP Up 3 respectively - so another 12 points just to even be able to spec into a Chaser.
Not impossible but it will be pretty late unless you either don't pick up Hurricane (and have no good single darget damage) or ignore Fencer/Double Strike (and have no damage after Hurricane)
You also might want to use a Charge effect for Hurricane but the generic Charge monster Grimoire is enough, you don't outright need Triple Charge.
I'd say if you go Chaser go full Chaser.
If you only want one maybe pick up a Chaser Grimoire instead?

Yeah I guess the investment would be a tad much. Guess if I ever need them rest is always an option however. Really you can go either way - with Picnic (you can change the difficulty settings freely while in town) grinding those two levels Resting costs back up is no big deal.
Btw. if you want go Chasers I would recommend axes. They have higher base damage and you can use Charge Smash for your non-Chaser attack.
It only needs Axe Mastery 10 so that is a 19 point investment to have an ok damage option if you encounter a situation where chasing is not the way to go.

I'd say go with IV esoecially if you have no prior experience with dungeon crawlers.
It is the easiest in the series so as long as your party makes somewhat sense you will be able to get through it - in the Untolds you can build bad parties even though they look functional.
So you can learn what the series is about without getting bogged down by relentless difficulty.
It also has an Overworld so you are not constrained to a single large dungeon but multiple smaller ones which might be more familier if you are used to more standard RPGs.
Stories are independent from one another - EOII and its remake EO2U even aknowledge that the other games exist in one or two sentences.
They all are their own contained experience.

Skill Seal is underwhelming because it only works for one turn. Null Action is better than Skill Seal.
Burn/Freeze are pretty good against bosses because they go off against every action which adds up very quickly when every boss has two turns. Blind and Paralyze have their uses but they were better in 2020-II since you had a class that buffed evasion to go with it.

First stratum has strong physical attack, every stratum afterwards has both strong physical and strong elemental attacks - both in random encounters and FOE/boss fights.
Without a Hoplite Buccaneer and Shogun die to almost all physical attacks and Gladiator and Arbalist get grilled by elemental attacks.
Since buffs and debuffs only effect physical damage there is not much you can do about elemental damage other than the Anti skills...

I kind of went pretty heavy into harvest and passive healing so I'd like to have something to cycle without needing to reset before I get non-combat grimoire sets.
Also are the rare item drops supposed to be this hard to find? Bar rumors have mostly run out and half of the rare item monsters don't have a clue in their encyclopedia entry. I still don't know for sure if killing a ragin boar with impact is what drops the thick boar skin and I still wouldn't have had even the foggiest clue if it wasn't for the item description retroactively hinting with "boar skin pounded thin" I still haven't found out the proc for the fanged vine's rare drop and I've been trying what could be triggers and still no dice.

There is story mode where you get Fafnir, Flavio, Arianna, Chloe and Bertrand and no one else.
And there is classic mode where right at the start of the game you can make up to 30 characters (25 if you import the story party via NG+).
You can make new characters at any time in classic and never in story (so all you have is reclassing).
The only hint you get about the Fanged Vine's conditional drop is that it is weak against panic (the swirl condition in its enemy data).
The story party has no inherent source of panic (aside from Random Disease - but just don't use that one; it sucks...)

Well, its not always working like this, sadly.
Bosses in general are assholes when it comes to their conditional drops. Often it's the stuff they are resistant to or some shit like "kill in one turn" or "kill with curse damage" (always a crowd favorite, that one...) so it's usually better to just use Formaldehyde.
In Chimeras case it needs to be killed with poison damage.
But its conditional drop unlocks post-game gear so you are meant to just blindly try out stuff when you are strong enough that bosses are not much of a thread.

Ronin is sadly pretty bad.
Their stances mean they can not contribute all that much in short fights, their small TP pools make them worse in long fights.
And their Force Boost gives them no damage...
You could swap Ronin our for a Dark Hunter - with proper Hexer support their damage is just stupid. Ecstasy is already the strongest damage skills with all three binds (and the third strongest with two binds) and Trance flat out doubles their damage against bound and ailing targets.
They can melt bosses.
Since War Magus with Ailing Slash has also good damage those two with a Hexer are easily enough damage - although you need to rely on RNG to inflict binds and ailments.
You would be a bit light on area damage to clear random encounters though.

Hexer is stupid good at inflicting stuff.
They have both Curb Atk UP and Curse Mastery which boosts infliction chances by like 20% each and their Force Boost is Creeping Curse which tripples infliction chances.
Basically instead of hoping to get lucky you just need to hope to not get unlucky - with how infliction works in EO2U it is more likely to work than not on anything that is not flat out immune.
Only a single boss is immune against almost anything but its not much of a problem as you can force her to end the fight early.
You should not really need to grind in the first place as long as you do all the quests. I never found myself underleveled in EO2U.
But to clear encounters you can use Venom Curse which will be able to kill most small random mobs up until the 5th stratum in one tick - but that means of course they are all getting a turn to attack you so you need to be careful.

Investing in gather skills is usually never a good idea.
EO is rather hard so you usually want your skill points to help you out in battle. Gathering doesn't really do that.
The best place for gather skills is on Grimoires so you can slot them in when you go on a gather spree and slot them out when you want to go fighting.

As opposed to all other skills the gather skills are exactly the same from level 10-20.
So having both the skill and a Grimoire does not help at all.
Also Natural Instinct is Take, Chop and Mine rolled into one and I don't think they stack on a single character - so having only Natural Instinct for everyone in the party is enough.
Also grinding out level 10 Grimoires on level 20 will take ages - the higher your level the better the grimoires you get so at a low level you will get more small grimoires.
But with enough of those you can trade like >>180441256 said.
Just make sure to give them to Regina to recycle - getting a lvl 10 Grimoire from smaller grimoires costs like a quarter as much if you recycle them instead of straight up trading. And all lvl 10 grimoires trade 1-to-1.

Using lvl 10 passive Grimoires or even active Grimoires early on can seriously screw the difficulty curve.
But gathering Grimoires? There is nothing they will effect much just making the gather chances less infuriating.

If you run WM + Hexer, always use Whip DH. If the Sword DH uses Soul Liberator (which he should, as it's his strongest skill) it ends the boosts to the War Edge skills. Meanwhile whip DH can spam Ecstasy with impunity without interfering with the WM.

Sword DH has anti-synergy with WM.

Really, it depends on the difficulty.
On the highest difficulty you need to keep everything pretty tight and optimized (except maybe in EOIV) but on lower difficulties you can mess around some more.
I mean you also can take non-optimized builds into Expert but it will often cause more frustration than it's worth.
I took a Ronin for my first Expert Classic run and I found her underperforming constantly...

There are a lot of Grimoire QR codes in the OP pastebin.
But if you are using a War Magus elemental damage is not that important.
Their Ailing Slash is Cut+Almighty damage meaning against all but two post-game enemies (one random encounter enemy and one FOE) it will always deal at least 100% of its (massive) damage, more against enemies weak to cut.

Rats are a small step above the braindead trash of the Old Forest Mine. Generally just trying to normal attack everything to death is not a good idea.
Have your Fortress Taunt up (the skill is pretty good early/mid game for drawing aggro) and use offensive skills with your Landy/Sniper to murder enemies faster. Dancer can dance to give some boosts but it should not be necessary.
(Also personally I would drop the Medic for a Runemaster and only heal with Medicas for the first two and a half lands but that is really offensive and ignores safety almost completely).

If you are playing a game that can make temporary saves it will ask you if it shoud do so. But hard saves are only possible at poles and at the inn.

Shiny monsters (rare breeds) have ten times their normal speed so they will likely go first every turn unless you have something that has priority (think Quick Attack of Pokemon).

Rare breeds have just a random chance of spawning.
And Baboons start coming out in the second half of the first floor of Lush Woodlands. You will encounter them more often but as you get stronger they get less dangerous.
And Baboons spawn all day and all night so you better find a way to defeat them.

Additionally arm binds cut STR in half so even their normal attack gets weaker (as well as any physical skills that don't use the arms).

And head binds cut TEC in half. Most TEC based skills use the head anyways so the defensive use for that is not great - but TEC is the only way monsters can take TEC based damage. There are not that many at the start.
Sniper has the binds and Nightseeker has some ailments. (You can have all three binds at the same time on an enemy but only one ailments. And they have a hierarchy so some ailments overwrite others.)
The true infliction class is the first unlockable class. I hope I'm not spoiling anything here - there were three free slots for the unlockable classes in the character creation screen.
You will get this class after the second maze together with two scrolls that each can bring a character to level 25 which is about the level you should be at the end of the second maze.
Since you have a Dancer (assuming you are the anon that posted his team recently) and the inflictor class has some healing itself you could swap your Medic out.
Btw. binds and ailments are actually useful in EO as opposed to status effects in most JRPGs.
You already noticed that random encounters can be dangerous so shutting them down is not a waste.
And FOEs and bosses are harder to hit with binds and ailments but they are not flat out immune against everything. Sometimes they are immune against certain things but usually not against all.
Certain ailments adn the right bind can just completely shut down bosses, buying you valuable turns to wail on the boss. They are still no pushover, though.

I have the only excuse I need: They suck at activating Links.
F/L/D S/R - you don't need an Arcanist if enemies just die.
And the Untolds also need no binds or ailments.
In EOU story I only use Simon's poison so he has something to do when on the first turn. I use no other ailments and binds and never had any trouble even on Expert.
EO2U Fafnir elemental cheese also picks no ailments and binds - although without Fafnir they are the best way to go since DH and WM are so stupidly overpowered.

Hoplite rushes for Line Guard - even your Gladiator will want it since the big random enemies hit hard.
2nds Stratum you want to get Anti Ice, 3rd Stratum Anti Fire, 4th Stratum Anti Volt all at 10 otherwise they are not much help.
Gladiator rushes for Blade Rave - so mostly Sword Mastery but they don't have the TP for skills anyways.
Princess I usually run in the backline at first so she gets targeted less often so Royal Veil stays in effect. Some Triumphant Cry, some Monarch March and you will not need to heal outside of battle for most of the game.
Then the buffing starts.
Zodiac goes one point into all the normal Stars and then for passives since the active skills get too expensive otherwise.
Arbalist gets Giant Kill. It's a bigger damage increase than some early skills and costs no TP so it's great all around.
For the first boss you will want Volt Barrage and since you are usually level 12 to 13 for that one you want to keep Giant Kill at 8, go 5 points into Bolt Mastery and pick it up.
Them more Giant Kill and maybe some Proper Form before going into the skills you want to use.

Skill builds are not only about what you have at the end but also what you take when. So just going online and looking at a finished build will not help much.
Depending on the game things that look good might actually be crap but as long as it works you can get going.
It is possible to screw you over with a bad build, very much so. That is one of the major strengths of the series - your decisions both in battle and outside of it are important for your success.
But you can reset your skill points.
The Guild Hall has the "Rest" option that gives you all your skill points back for a price. It used to be 10 levels, then 5 in EOIII and in the 3DS titles it costs 2 levels.
So it's not something you should abuse but resting your entire party once or twice in a run is something you can stomach (and in the Untolds you can just switch to picnic and regrind the levels easily if you are super worried about getting too weak...)

Shiny FOEs are extremely dangerous.
They will attack first almost always and become stronger every turn - it is unlikely that you will be able to defeat it in a few turns so it will soon reach the strength to just one-shot everyone in your party including your tank.

Physical attackers have low TP especially at the beginning of the game.
It gets less severe later on but in the beginning using the normal attack every now and then is not a bad idea.
As the game goes on you will use the normal attack less and less but it is still important to keep in mind that it exists when planning your turn. Every now and then will you find situations in which you can safe TP by not using a skill and just normally attacking instead.
And yes, FOEs are walking midbosses - only with higher levels will you be able to take them on one after another.
Usually the maps are build around evading FOEs and the gear their drops make is fairly high class. If you want to go FOE hunting the best time is often right before the boss of the maze/stratum.
The red bear quest is an exception mainly meant to show you that FOEs are indeed nothing you should fight just on a whim.
