The issue with any generic weapons besides Brave/Firesweep/Raven/Gems are gimp as fuck and almost never worth it to the 99% percentile. The reduction in MT is just too heavy in their cases. The four above get to shine because the first scales hard, the second literally lets you lolno to counter attacks, the third gives you coverage of an entire color plus is always related to the fourth which lets you specialize in shitting on a certain color super hard.

Everything else? Killer weapons, Armor weapons, Horse weapons, it doesn't matter, they all have way too low MT to sacrifice and to top it off there's way too many fucking good melee PRFs like Distant Counter or Falchion as opposed to ranged PRFs which is like Naga and Ragnarok that's it I think? Basically I don't think it has so much to do with blade tomes and shit being too strong, but the other generics being too fucking weak. Just look at killer sword/lance/axe, I don't think you can even find 10 cases where -1 cd is worth 4 more MT of a Silver weapon, let alone the weapons I mentioned above.

Not really, it's more based on whether or not your entire team is 5* units. With a full 5* team you can easily hit 4800+ and that's the key, 4800 guarantees you passage into 19 and probably even 20.

I just use Rein, Xander, and then Hector is there only there to offset the low BST of Rein.

It's definitely very impressive for its time but I feel that it has been surpassed. I don't mind the simple gameplay and there is some great level design and cool features such as dismounting, but I most certainly would not describe FE3 as "challenging". The story was effective enough, no complaints there.
I guess you give FE3 a lot of credit for being good relative to its release date whereas other people assess it for what it is.

Killer weapons let you use Luna/Bonfire/Iceberg once in every skirmish that provokes a counterattack, which is often enough to cripple if not outright kill things. The way it gave some backstory and relevance to most if not all of the secondary cast while the events of the story unfolded really fleshed them out. It was pretty ahead of its time in that regard, and you can see some of that in Echoes.

My big problem with dismounting is having units forced to use swords in the first place. It makes zero sense. At first you think it's because Kaga is being historically accurate and lances typically weren't used in indoor combat because of tight corridors but then that gets thrown out the window when nonmounted units like Soldiers use fucking lances indoors anyway. The stat penalty is also stupid, if Cavs have better stats naturally then instead of a penalty, just fix their bases instead? Don't make some arbitrary penalty, fix the problem at the root. The only thing dismounting should do is get rid of the horse so you don't FE6 the shit out of the indoor maps. Everything else just makes the feature more of a nuisance than anything.

I think the stat penalty is a good idea (also note that different classes have different penalties). It's supposed to nerf your mounted units. The idea is that you rely on mounted units outdoors and focus more on nonmounted units indoors so you overall use more units in your army and ahve more variety

Try running calculator checks with the typical Fury/+spd or +atk/Hp seal/etc on the enemies, Killer setups almost always lose to Silver weapons unless the hero has dog shit attack to begin with and enormous def/res, and this isn't even counting stuff like brave weapons etc etc.

Eldigan and Minerva work exactly because it's a 16 PRF, that's literally 5 more damage than Killer weapons, more than a hone attack.
