Working on a game mod to make ACLR on PC more balanced and play closer to ACVD in terms of movement and fast paced combat, and make the parts more distinct.
>>
>>180051463
So far I can adjust almost every stat in the game, even change shot types/animations if I wanted to, along with music, weapon descriptions/names, etc. What's left to figure out is:
>Weapon impact force
>inside parts / ECM
>Radars
>muzzle velocity
>some Missile stats (how many missiles fired per lock on, missile tracking, missile speed)

For a vertical stack test I need impact force, and muzzle velocity, that's all.
>>
>>180051463
>>180051908
Very cool, hope it goes smoothly from here for you
>>
>>180051463

Are you also gonna make some extra missions? I'd love to fight Nineball in the Internecine just for giggles.
>>
>>180053913
Can't do that, unfortunately. That would probably require access to the source code. I can change values and assets, just not change how the game is programmed.
>>
>>180054107
>>180053913
Couldn't someone swap out the models and stats for some AC in a mission to be identical to Nineball?
It'd be an interesting thing to see attempted down the road.
>>
>>180054420
You could, but then it would make all those parts (including for the player) to be like that as well.

The AI in last raven aren't separate characters, they're composed of a group of parts.

Holy shit, this guy is kicking my ass. Doesn't help i have to fight another AC after i somehow pull through, either low on ammo or AP. Or both.
>>

Try vertical missiles against the hover AC, just sit behind the dam and spam them, possibly along with orbit weapons.
>>

>all upgrades online
>Still shit compared to RATATATATA
I guess VD was the only game that made Energy weapons feel impactful.
>>
>>180067382
Stagger, impact, and "weight" to weapons, especially energy weapons, is something that is really only exclusive to V/VD.

Earlier games, laser weapons were "soft" weapons, especially pre AC2. Shell weapons caused stagger and impact, energy weapons (with exceptions like some laser cannons, rail guns, etc.) would hit with a high energy electrical beam, not some sort of physical force.

But nothing in VD feels as satisfying as the ACLR railgun or LX. Maybe giga cannon.
>>

hi pendragon
hope everyone's playing some enjoyable video games
recently i've managed to dig into my backlog and finally got around to continue playing through FFVI brave new world, which i remember you said you'd played.
i am a nostalgiafag, but i'm not a modfag and this was the first to hold my interest a significant amount of time (i am currently about to face the final boss)
i'm just wondering, what did you think of this mod? did you finish it?
so far, to me, it's given me a really well re-designed battle system that modernizes what was already great in 1994 (an amazing feat, when you think about it)
the script is absolute garbage, but since it's FFVI you still get the amazing art and breathtaking soundtrack so it's hardly noticeable.
i'd thought since nothing else is on the horizon apart from my front mission spiritual successor which i am developing on my own i'd see what you faggots are up to, you fucking faggots.
just recently finished the DSIII dlc. very challenging and good environment, but still i need the miyazaki touch.
don't fucking care if you call me a miyazakifag, go ahead. the man had nigh single-handedly made video games as a medium interesting again with demon's souls and i am excited for his next work, even if it isn't AC6.
but it better goddamn be AC6 - but it won't be. AC6 is coming, but it's not going to be a miyazaki production. which is a fucking shame.
i want for answer style world building with FROM's current resources and miyazaki's artistic direction. shame it won't happen.
what is likely is an expanded "MMO" approach like V-era. FROM'd be stupid not to attach miyazaki's name to it, as well

You played Brave New World? Coolio. I share the exact same opinion on this side. I loved how everything was rebuilt from the ground up, and above everything else there were two things I enjoyed:

>magicite being restricted to certain characters, so not everyone could just be the same mage spamming the same attacks
>Celes getting General Leo's sword and his shock ability

The story was funny in a fanfictiony way, but it doesn't have that spoony bard charm that Ted Woolsey delivered.

never played any of the new wolfenstein games. some look pretty cool.
is breath of the wild as good as people are saying? i figured a bunch of big franchises just jumped on the "open world" meme and BOTW was just late to the party. i'm convinced open world is just a massive waste of resources after MGSV and FFXV, two of the hugest most anticipated games in all history, which both ended up being kind of mediocre in the end, the open world factor largely contributing to that, in my opinion. what confuses me most is the folks round here saying they want open world armored core. it's like, what??
looks like the switch has good momentum now, and the metroid revival came as a big surprise to me. i'll have to consider picking one up if things go nicely for them. though i heard they might be upping the price of games to $99 in canada. what the fuck? no thanks.
>>180099342
the silent hill games are in my backlog too, i'd only ever played 2 - loved it, but also read everywhere that is was by far the best one (indeed it was a truly great game) so i lost the drive to play the others, despite owning them.
i'll likely be getting AC7 for PS4. i'm not much of a PC guy anymore, my PC is only used as a MIDI clock and a music folder and nothing else.
>>180105390
i loved the feeling of the hand crafted nature of literally every single encounter. i couldn't get enough of it. i also loved the equipment/relic total overhaul.
some of the AI scripts were a little TOO random (petty complaint, i know). there were a few situations where i'd spend like 12 turns in a row healing/reviving before i got a chance to attack again. and then of course that attack wins the encounter. i guess maybe that's what they were going for. i also remember getting annihilated versus a random encounter before even getting the chance to act, SMT style. that's always nice.
overall really nice game and the creator's passion for the original really shines through. i love that.

i took a break from P5 after i got to the final palace. the dialogue at this point (well, since like the halfway point in the game) was just retreading the same shit 10x. every. single. conversation. and i couldn't wrap my head around the "twist". i still don't know what exactly happened. and i don't think i care at this point. overall fantastic game, however. still feel as though it's actively wasting my time at this point. the latter half is unabashedly padded and stretched out. it's like, man, there's probably 30+ hours of straight-up filler. it really detracts from the good stuff.
haven't picked up nier yet, at this point it'll probably be worth waiting for a price drop. but man i want to play it.
never finished fates. i get all the children characters, upgrade them, and then lose all drive to actually finish the game. this has happened twice now.

>is breath of the wild as good as people are saying?
For a LoZ game, it's great. The LoZ formula was getting a bit worn, so a new game that subverted that was pretty nice. It doesn't last forever, and you do eventually get your fill, but for me I had a good long time playing before I felt I wanted to finish. Although maybe that's more due to the fact I haven't played a lot of open world games in the past, so it's still new.

>looks like the switch has good momentum now, and the metroid revival came as a big surprise to me. i'll have to consider picking one up if things go nicely for them.
The one thing Nintendo is doing well is keeping their systems cheap, so they can be bought as sort of an afterthought for just a few choice games. Either a PS4 or XBOX is just too pricey for that, you'd better know you're gonna get a lot of games out of them

Then again, I also have a sexual thing for actual tanks, which is why I like Armored Core in the first place. Perhaps a connection?

For answer is the easiest armored core game. As long as you change things around and try enough things, you'll stumble onto something that works really well.
>>
>>180131880
Post your build and control scheme and I can tell you what you're doing wrong.

It's less about doing something "right" and more about avoiding doing something "wrong". If you don't do obvious mistakes (no energy recovery, way too heavy, not enough ammo, etc.) then you can breeze through the game pretty easily.

>>180142154
Nope. If I was him I'd be advertising it for a youtube video. It's actually irregular but I like keeping anon when I'm not talking about LR mod related things, especially since I haven't been very active lately.

Side note: TBM's a cool guy but his commentary gets a little annoying at times, I think some of it has to do with the cultural barrier barrier. A lot of foreign youtubers seem to treat english very literally /obviously when speaking and lack much wordplay.

I feel like we need a really solid well-spoken youtuber for the AC community, like how Souls has Vaati and ENB.

Cheng has got a lot of the newer pvp stuff covered, Digdug is a bit TOO informal. So far I'm really impressed with Ostardva but he doesn't put out videos that much. He's a good commentator though.

But there's definitely a lower quality to the videos being made for AC compared to other games. I'm hoping between having game mod stuff to show and my new computer (crossfire GPUs. I can run Last Raven on 4k now with AA!) and microphone, I can show some solid 4k 60fps gameplay content.
>>
>>180143043
TBM is a pretty cool guy. I like watching his Your AC in LR videos and now beginning to watch his AA playthroughs.

>I feel like we need a really solid well-spoken youtuber for the AC community, like how Souls has Vaati and ENB

Is there really anything that can be done on this front? The last AC generation was pretty mixed.
>>
>>180143478
>Is there really anything that can be done on this front? The last AC generation was pretty mixed.

A major limitation is console exclusivity, which drags down the ability to stream and record your gameplay for people, the other problem is also platforming. I think there's a peak of about 1000-2000 views per video you can hit before you tap out the entire AC fanbase, which means to get enough views to warrant sponsorship or make money from your videos you need to be churning of 3-4 videos a day. The audience just isn't big enough.
>>
>>180143767
I don't think money should be the driving force for making videos. It should be people focus on making videos for more people to get into AC.
>>
>>180144164
"Should" doesn't really matter, but it does keep people from making more of them, which means there's a smaller pool of videos being made. Small sample size = lots of missing niches and harder to find quality content.

3.5 years is not a decade, anon

There's a lot of generals that haven't had a release in 5+ years. Animal Crossing's last release was before Armored Core but their general has been up for ages.

There is honestly nothing that wakes up my schaedenfreude more than watching someone go through last raven for the first time, and go from hopeful inspiration to battle-hardened monster as they realize behind each difficulty spike is another peak. Fuck, I love how relentless the difficulty progression is in that game.

Hi, /acg/. I'm a long-time Last Raven vet and I've just come around to getting a newer Armored Core after many years. I could say that I'm not a bad pilot, and I've weathered every single mission that the Last Raven campaign has ever thrown at me. But after catching myself dueling the arena ACs one by one with an AC armed only with a single laser rifle, I knew it was time to move on.

So today, I got myself Verdict Day. What am I in for?

A base game that works as a moderately difficult tutorial for a very different kind of challenge (PvP, Hardcore Mode, Online Super Bosses).

Verdict Day's base game isn't that hard, and it teaches you the basics of the rock paper scissors damage and accuracy system (CE weapons are high DPS but slow and long lock times, KE weapons are fast lock times with high stagger, but bad range and easily resisted, TE weapons are either very powerful or very weak depending on the build and range) and how to do basic movement.

However, the real challenge in Verdict Day is in the pvp, the Hardcore Mode, and the Unidentified Weapons, which are all hugely difficult.

It's a good game but really forces you to swap parts and builds much more constantly than ACLR, and has a very "metagame" feel to it, where less of the difficulty is in mastering the controls (though that does help) and more in figuring out how to optimize your strategy at a glance and internalize all those stats.

Overall I'd say it's less "hard" than ACLR, but the skill cap is much, much higher.

Short story: If you don't want to play online PvP, then you probably won't enjoy Verdict Day much. If you do want to play online, and IF you can climb the skill wall and fully grasp the game's mechanics, you will love it. Probably.

Long story: 5th gen AC was made as an online experience first, with a single player bit tacked on to it. The story stuff is enjoyable, for what it is, but there isn't much of it, and it's pretty shallow. You can get through all of it without too much difficulty, and without actually understanding most of the mechanics of the game.

Conversely, if you venture online, prepare to get crushed. There aren't too many newbies left in the game, so most of the people still playing WILL know how to play better than you, and probably won't show mercy. In addition, if you really want to get into the game's online scene, you're going to want a Japanese PS3 copy, as JP-PS3 is the only server with any activity in the Conquest/World Mode, team-based gameplay. The western server on PS3 only has activity in trivial freebattle, and I've been led to understand that both sides of 360 are all but void of life.

I agree with this but I also want to make the caveat that the unidentified weapons, UNAC, and Hardcore Modes are all offline and definitely worth the playthrough even if you don't do pvp.
>>
>>180163179

Wait, the unidentified weapons can be fought offline?

The last game in the series was Verdict Day, which will be 4 years old in September. However, I don't blame you for thinking it's been 10 years, given how much Bandai Namco advertised for the two 5th gen games in the west. (That is to say, they didn't at all.) Unless you're one of those guys who doesn't look at 5th gen as Armored Core, because "It's different!" If that's the case, then you can fuck right off with that shit.

To be frank, the possibility of a new AC game coming in the next couple years is actually greater than it was in the past couple years. FromSoft had signed a contract, years ago, to produce 3 Dark Souls games for Bandai Namco, who pretty much just wanted them to crank the cash out of that cow.

But, now that Dark Souls is concluded, and the contract complete, From is far more free to take on other projects, and seek other publishers for them. Not only do I think we'll see a new AC sometime in 2019, but I have a feeling we'll be seeing From branch out into more things, now that they have the experience and prestige from Souls launching them into the limelight, and the freedom to do things that aren't Dark Souls.

In ACV, no, but in ACVD I think they can. You might need a working internet connection but you can do normal and special sorties without engaging in PvP, just change the sortie settings.
>>
>>180163642

Huh. When did they add that?
>>
>>180164079
disabling matchmaking for sorties and special sorties has been a thing for ages. Turn off elite squads and set yourself to attack only. That will make you only attack territories containing NPCs, aka, UWs.
>>
>>180164326
What preferences do I set exactly? There's multiple "attack" priorities I can set, whether I'm attacking or defending, or whether I'm hitting a priority target. Also, is this special sorties only?
>>
>doing some math
>"How many possible builds are there in 1997 armored core?
>230,120,000,000
>not counting optional parts
>it's the least customizable, doesn't even have inside or extension parts.

fucking christ
>>
>>180165124
I can't remember the exact settings but I think it's
>enemy target: no preference
>Map: Attacking (not defending)
>target invasion: no
>target defense: no
>elite squads: no
>mock battle: no

invasion is whether or not you will go to the priority "war" locations (which are marked by arrows for each faction)

target defense is whether or not you will defend if another faction's arrow is pointed at your territory

elite squads is whether or not you will face humans or just MTs

Mock battle is fighting your own faction

so if I remember right, to fight UWs, you just set it to those settings and then go on a special sortie, so you are guaranteed not to face humans and not to attack your own map, which means you will hit a UW.

So a few months back I tried AC4 and was having trouble around midgame before I found a post on some obscure forum saying that the Tellus was busted, I used it and beat the game in a few hours, is this where all the hate for 4 and FA come from?
>>
>>180171527
What are you trying to ask here? Using a strong weapon/ac to cheese the game? Too short of a game?
>>
>>180171527
The hate for 4 and FA mostly comes from two things:

>1: They were aggressively marketed toward Xbox 360 players, meaning most people who played AC4 hadn't played previous armored core games and mostly "only" liked AC4/FA
>2: They were such a different style of gameplay that they felt like a completely different game after ACLR, instead of an evolution of the existing formula.

The changes it made also were mostly to make the games much easier and faster with a story focus, but they're also kind of a mess when it comes to gameplay. Feels good when you get it right, but awful when you get it wrong. I remember people calling AC4 "not a true armored core game" when it first came out and boycotted it. They did the same with ACV too, with dark souls fans and an even bigger departure with the controls and mechanics, so it's not a big deal. There are plenty of fans who really love AC4/FA (I dislike FA but AC4 was really unique in my opinion).

Overall though AC4 is REALLY short and REALLY easy to cheese throughout the whole game. It was mostly just a test bed for the fast-paced gameplay style and visual style. Most missions are just 30 second paintings to look at before you blow everything up.

I still go back and replay AC4 sometimes, more so than FA, just because it looks goddamn beautiful and is still a little more difficult and requires more customization than ACFA did.

On a 1-10 ranking of "style over substance" ACFA is a 10, AC4 is an 8, and every other armored core game is a 3-4 with ACVD being a 1. That wild difference of spectrum between sequels is what makes AC4 kind of unique.

also, a good example of why AC4 is too easy: You were able to just use the same build (Tellus) in most of your missions.

It doesn't encourage you to mix and match parts for the mission, it encourages you to pick a "company build" for your playstyle, because parts don't mix as well (or look really dumb when they do). A lot of the weapons (like grenades) are so absurdly powerful that they can carry you throughout the game too. They also give you enough credits to buy most of everything in the shop easily. The FRS points system also is how they made it so you can get stronger as you progress without actually having to learn the game or compare/contrast parts and strategies.

In the other AC games, you constantly have to balance your budget and change your AC for each mission, mixing many different styles and companies. You only got stronger because you knew how to customize and control better.

Also adding quickboost added a major reaction time element, so the gameplay became less about strategy and builds and more about just reaction time.

So the complaints are mostly
>"They changed it, now it sucks"
and
>"They made it so you didn't have to customize anymore, it's too easy"

But I also think that making the game easy was a necessary part of enforcing the visual style and reaching a wider audience. AC4 sold fantastic.

AC4 is still gorgeous even today.

I failed Swarm of Red Eyes my first time because of how beautiful the mission was, I was staring at the swarms too long as they floated past to realize I needed to shoot them. That's probably a top 10 AC moments of all time for me, because the visuals had me truly immersed in the game.

Personally, I think most of the hate for 4th gen comes from the fanboys. The ones that will aggressively claim that all other AC games are shit, because you can't go mach-fuckteen, and if you like any other AC game, for any reason, you're retarded.

I'm not the greatest fan of 4th gen. I dislike the art direction and the part design. The physics in the game don't feel right, to me. I absolutely hate the chosen sound effect, especially for any sound related to boosters. And the game is so streamlined (on the front end), while building the player up to be incredibly powerful, that it almost becomes mindless.

All that said, though, the games are still fun to romp around in, every once in a while, the story is the best that AC has ever had, and the OST is fucking god-tier.
