06, simply because people somehow think there's things worse than it even on a technical level. No sonic boom, while abysmal, was not worse than sonic 06. sonic 06 had loading screens that literally took up ten percent of the game time.

sonic 06 is annoying, it has some of the worst designed boss fights in the franchise, if you get a game over you're kicked back to the title screen, silver the hedgehog is as slow as molasses, the ball puzzle is god awful, the mach speed sections are bullshit, the story is god awful to a painful degree especially involving Elise, the dialogue has NO intentional value to it, there are mandatory time wasting side quests, OMEGA RUNS FASTER THAN SONIC, and to top it all off they had the nerve to call it sonic the hedgehog as if this were to be some crowning achievement worthy of surpassing the original.

I'm fucking tired of people saying any mediocre game is worse than 06. Hell I'm upset if you call a moderately bad game worse than 06. Unless a game is PAINFUL TO PLAY, DULL, DRAGS ON TOO LONG AND HAS ATROCIOUS CONTROLS/PHYSICS... it's not worse than 06.

This is one of my biggest problems with it. I'm more prone to motion sickness in 3D games than most people, especially in first person games or third person games from the 5th gen. Sonic 2006 is one of those rare third person games from the 7th gen that actually makes me physically ill to play for longer than an hour.

Sonic Boom. Sonic Colors and Generations managed to earn a sliver of respect for the franchise again, and while Lost World wasn't great, it wasn't like we were sliding back to a string of terrible games.

Then Sonic Boom happened.

Fuck me raw running down a hill with rusted razor wire if Sonic Boom didn't fucking happen.

A perfectly average - maybe just mediocre - game ruined by a string of events that doomed it to discount bins and memes. Now no matter how good future games are the franchise is pretty much still cursed.

Cartoon was alright though. Just wish the game was given a LOT more time in the oven.

I'm with you. It was one of the first sonic games or game in general that made me just drop it after I lost a ton of lives to a single section in Sonic's Kingdom Valley due to how buggy it was. I had a dream about Sonic Mania last night. The game had a massive character select that looked like a Sonic-themed MUGEN roster, and the penultimate zone was a three-act zone that took place over the entirety of Sonic 1, like act one was half Green Hill and Marble, act two was Spring Yard and Labyrinth, and act three was Star Light and Scrap Brain.

Just thought it was interesting enough to share.

I had a dream that the Special Stages in Mania were all themed based on different Sonic artstyles. The one I played was a 2D sidescrolling thing like the SegaSonic Popcorn Shop minigame and Sonic was staring me down the whole time in his Sonic 1 cover art design.
I also saw CD and Sketch hog artstyles.

Sonic Mania looks nice but the fact that the remixed Act 1 stages are still vey very similar to their originals kinda bugs me. Chemical Plant and Flying Battery are like the same save for a few extra platforms and some monitors scattered throughout. I'm guessing they did that so they could introduce the new level gimmicks and reworked visuals/music in the second act, but that just seems kind of dumb.

3 & Knuckles is probably my favorite. Has some of the best levels, boss fights, and by far the most content, not even including the extra stuff you get in 1-3 if you own all the games.

Level is hard, but I really liked Chemical Plant, Hilltop, Sky Sanctuary, and Stardust Speedway, and the Castle/Theme Park levels from Sonic 4 II.

Soundtrack is really hard... Probably Sonic 2's overall. Especially Chemical Plant and the Boss music.

Art Style would be 3&K for sure. CD and Sonic 4 kind of shit the bed.

When Generations, Mania and to an extent Forces are being sold primarily with the focus of nostalgia and clearly marketed towards franchise veterans (ie adults) then they're not aimed purely at children as you suggest.

The last games primarily aimed towards children were the Boom games and to an extent Lost World.
Which makes me think Sega actively hates children.
