He's okay.
Situationally better on small maps with many lanes like Spider Queen, Blackheart, Infernal Shrine, Dragon Shrine. He's a two lane pusher, you kill minions, leave skeletons to push as you rotate to next lane, repeat. He cannot 1v1 hardly anyone and in a teamfight only serves as a root and basic attack slow cleaver. Don't go into playing him expecting OP shit, he has weaknesses and you should know them before jumping in.

Jokes aside just land your shit and don't die. Bully squishies and be opportunistic, don't engage on full HP Diablos or Alaraks and expect to win, wait for them to get low and pick them off as they are leaving and defenseless. When there's a fight going down, don't flank as Nova because you're a free kill, poke from the backline of your own team where it's safe, then go for the flank when the low HPs start to retreat them clean em up.

Never take Triple Tickle never ever and take One in the Chamber, get good at weaving autos and abilities for max burst, something like Clone-Auto-W-Auto-Q-Auto is a turn of damage.

In unranked dragon shire, we were having an endless fight over each shire up to level 12. Then suddenly our sole hero defending top decided to go down and do merc camp alone as dehaka. Enemy team got dragon, destroyed midlane gate and 2 towers. Fast forward to when enemy is 20 and we're a level behind, enemy took dragon cuz we got wiped, they pushed mid again, and gg.

Dehaka explained that it was to apply pressure to the enemy team, and endlessly fighting for shires were pointless.

As a noob who has 7/14 level 5 heroes, I am a bit puzzled by this. Perpetually denying the enemy team a dragon is more helpful than a few mercs, is it not?

Dehaka also said I was shit at defending from 1st dragon, but I was going through all my abilities over and over to try to take them down faster, only getting help from teammates by the time when dragon was 1/2 hp.

It's worth noting that the snipemaster buff makes snipe build decent if you're fighting teams or on maps where they all bundle up.
At 16 it's something like ~1,000 damage to one target and 500 to everything else in a decent AoE every 3 seconds.
It ups your burst significantly but it also makes it so you are completely useless if you miss one snipe.

One in the chamber is for if you can afford to get off the combo on a fleeing foe, but gets punished if the enemy team moves in a deathball at all.

Also nova's bribe talent is strong on Hanamura and Diablo maps.

Since his game is a cover shooter his trait is a meter that you can sped to become invincible and unrevealable while next to a wall. Also he's a guerrilla warrior so his talents help him become more slippery or deal extra damage after disappearing from enemy sight.

One of his skills should be the grav-o-bomb and it'd deal twice as much damage against any armored target or slide around walls or something.

Maybe a talent that causes dead heroes to drop potions, he can save up a couple at a time and gets one every time he comes back to base.

Another skill can be a remote wasp hive that starts invisible but when an enemy player gets close it continually spawns wasps until they destroy it.

Instead of having a mount he can run at 120% speed as long as he hasn't been hit or attacked recently. Activating it is a jump with a short channel that lets him cross terrain.

I don't know about ultimates. Maybe you get the levitator and you can use it on any player to lock their movement for 3 seconds but make them untargettable? Let your squishy mage unleash their spells, shoot down at enemies from on high, or stop the enemy Illidan from doing anything once he dives into your team.

Like I said, when you play more you'll start to get it. The issue on Hanamura is that they can contest the Payload by the Health Pack camps from over the wall where the Merc stands, so I've watched Azmodans and Kael'thas burn entirely through their mana bars nuking the completely wrong spots for minutes because they were simply new players and didn't get that. Again, not a bug but simply inexperience. You get over it with time.

I feel like Illidan is a shit hero. He only works on teams that are made directly for him and vs enemy comps that come at him like an underhanded pitch.

I now see why he's so shit. He's countered by literally any CC, anything that makes him lose attacks = less cooldwon, less sustain, less escape, and less damage.

Even missing a second or two of attack time turns him into a squishie target.

He's also a selfish hero. He basically has to have a team that will win for him and basically keep everyone busy so he can come in 3/4th of the way through the fight and get kills.

You're right, it's not worse than Triple Tap.

Triple Tap is just a highly telegraphed self-root that does a shit amount of damage that you would never ever use in a real fight. It's there for shitters to get one kill on somebody who's probably dead anyway when the enemy team has zero ability to interrupt it. Also when said shitters can't land a fucking global for shit. A shitter Nova will learn very early on to never use Triple Tap unless it's at the end of a fight because she's going to get dunked in the face rather immediately. And so they will basically never use it except maybe 2-3 times per game and be all smug about how they got some kills with it in their Bronze QM game.

Triple Tap is one of the biggest hallmarks of a shitter and you really have no business losing to a Triple Tap Nova.

Same for all the shit ults vs superior skillshot ults.

Why is it so difficult for people to just draft and ban correctly? I'm pretty sure about 80% of the games I've lost today have just been bad drafts. Maybe 3 or 4 had feeders.

Trip Tap is telegraphed easily.

Precision Strike however has the following pros.

1. Long Range means you don't have to be close to the team fight to use it.
2. You can combo it with a Pin shot before firing the laser to make sure the enemy Hero can't get out in time.
3. Even if it doesn't kill it's still going to do damage in a team fight, enough so to make them consider running and risking their own lives to gamble an escape.

Plus Trip Tap can be body blocked by minions or other Heroes you didn't want to target. EVEN THEN, Nova really isn't one of those Heroes where the Heroic ability(abilities) are their trademark. Nova is a ranged stealthed roamer. Bombard is like mini catapult with great ranged damage and lane pressure while assault just cleave and explode

If the enemy team is going to be grouped up a lot you want to focus on spreading your trait as much as possible. Probably throwing shade, I like mortality and massacre because it keeps up your marks and does a good bit of damage to everyone in range.

And if the enemy team is more spread out I'll focus more on pulse for the single target damage, slow to gank with, and the range increase to live in fights or momento mori to really kill one guy.

Of course you want the healing reduction talent if you're up against enemy malthael or butcher or someone, and your defensive talent is always up to the enemy comp.

I think tormented souls is usually the better ultimate because it gives you tons of survivability and keeps your dot up. Last Rites is a cool one but if you think about it the damage is pretty garbage considering you need to use it on a target at 33% health that has absolutely no way of healing or reducing damage. Something like Pyroblast has a similar delay but instantly one shots a couple of characters and will kill a bunch of others if they're under 70% and most characters will have just killed the target without a big deal ritual. Also the level 20 talent is broken and only gives the CD reduction if you've finished the quest after hitting 20, it does not double the CD from kills retroactively.

Is Alarak an odd character for everyone? His E is mainly used as a healing source and his quest is awkward to complete even if you know how to position yourself. His Q does pitiful damage and has terrible range on top of being delayed, also a long cooldown. His telekinesis is his best skill and his ultimates are pretty much both shit. I feel useless after using up my skills and waiting for cooldowns, most of the time the fight is over by the time I can Q or W again. He gets shit on in the laning phase and can't reliably gank, he only excels when you are against heroes like rexxar and samuro.
