There are loads of guilds, check the elysum forum recruitment section, as well as several that recruit mainly just using in-game chat.
Mandate of Heaven is the /vg/ alliance side guild on Elysium. It has a pretty dogshit reputation and I'd suggest avoiding it, but pretty sure you can whisper anyone to get an invite. Worst that can happen is you hate it and leave, oh well.
Later on, assuming you stick with the game, you'll want to make sure whatever guild you're in fits in with your goals in game, whether that's premades, raid times that fit your schedule, no swedish people, etc.

Anathema is where the old nost characters went and the furthest progressed patch wise.
Elysium is a newer version of that, most populated.
Darrowshire is pve.
Zeth is newest and deadest, characters are all being transferred to one of the above servers soonish, elysium being the default choice.

There are uh, hellfire and wargate, i could have the names fucked up.
Both are different levels of fucked and i can't recall which is which. One of them actually achieved decent faction balance which is difficult for tbc but i'm behind so i haven't kept up on how it's doing - and again, i get them confused since the names seem similar in my head. There is the warmane tbc server opening and it will probably be pretty decent, but with a fair amount of cash shop shit. You'd have to look into it to see if that's something you were into. I think it sucks, but one good part of the way they do it is they can actually pay their people to they're motivated to make shit not horrible.

LC is a lot like communism, sounds amazing on paper but in practice is a lot more difficult. LC requires extreme effort to get right as well as the right group of people (who preferably know each other well and are in for the long haul).
No loot system is "perfect" but LC is amazing for full tilt tryhard competing for server first guilds - which MoH isn't. That isn't a knock on MoH, I honestly think it's more lame to be super tryhard on a private server anyhow, but with the patch elysium is on LC doesn't make any sense at all but even less sense for a /vg/ guild.

My main guild loot councils. Although I got fuck-all items in the first few weeks, once I was proving myself to be a reliable guild member I quickly found myself next in line for a ton of items and geared up way faster than I would have if I had to bid for each new thing against players who had raided a lot in the past but now only showed up sporadically.

A proper loot council requires dedication and time commitment to getting it right. You can't with a straight face tell me that anyone here has the capacity for that.

I raided with a dkp guild recently and pretty much that exact thing happened. Basically what happened was warlocks were bidding for less dkp than mages on average because they were loot counciling among their class and only bidding 1dkp each on warlock gear, so when an azuresong mageblade dropped one of the warlocks was able to bid all his extra dkp on it. One of the mages who had been forced to bid for more dkp on mage items was left unable to compete with the warlock's higher dkp so he raged super hard and eventually left the guild.

Was pretty funny though.

Loot Council works when you have a tight knit community like GRIZZLY does. Each member cares about making sure their own guild is better than every other guild on the server so they're okay with gear going to the player that will benefit the guild the most.
Otherwise, DKP with class priority is more fair and limits drama because people know what they're in for.

A Shaman might outheal a Paladin on the meters, but a Paladin is infinitely more useful.

Shaman's are limited by the ammount of totem buffs they can put out, since you can't buff your melee with flametongue and have mana spring totem out at the same time. (Also Windfury/Tranquil Air LOL)

Paladins on the other hand, can buff EVERYONE in the raid at the same time, not to mention, they can Judgement of Light/Judgement of Wisom AND have resist Auras, like Totems, but you don't need to recast every time you move an inch.

Not to mention:

Divine Intervention.
Blessing of Freedom.
100 mana Dispell.
Bubblepulls

Oh, and Paladins are better with Nightfall because they get 40% attack speed with Seal of Crusader.

There are several officers and class leaders who are in charge of distributing loot to roles/classes in the guild. I think they choose who gets the item and then discuss it with the other people in charge of loot if they have comments about it.

Manlett does loot for casters.
Madtii does loot for priests.
Valky does loot for tanks.
Lumikaru does loot for resto druids.
Babymetal does loot for paladins.
Threepwood does loot for hunters.
Artie does loot for melee DPS.

The superior method which is used by most guilds is Loot council with non-important pieces shared around but all important pieces given to officer clique first while they all shit talk everyone in the guild using /o chat. Only shitters join guilds as non-officers

You don't need to go so far into arcane at lower levels, just get 2 points into sublty then finish frost (imp frost nova, shatter, cold snap, Arctic Reach) you could even get frost warding too for more armor.

Farm DME at level 52 when you get a new rank of blizzard. You will be drinking a lot anyway so don't worry about clear casting fishing before 60.
