EO5 is really good. The difficulty curve is a little off, with the second and fifth bosses being much harder than any of the others (may have just been my team though).
The balance is good, a contender for the best balance in any EO game. There are a couple of 'dud' classes, but everything can shine if you build your party for it correctly; I'm using a potato reaper (debuffer), and blazing through the post-game right now.

Afaik in EOU it's a skill randomly pulled from enemy skills, passives of the character and the active skill the character uses on the turn of the Chance.
If you use no skill and the enemy has no skill you always get a passive.

EO2U has seperate Grimoire chances for actives, passives and enemy skills and a Premium Chance that works like the one from EOU but gives better results (higher levels).

Is EOU2 the perfect game? After many tries in many things, it feels like they perfected everything.

I like EO2U very much but it definitely has some flaws especially coming so late in the series.

First, lack of Portraits.
EOIII and EOIV gave us recolors for all portraits and I don't see why the Untolds could not have done the same. Even with the portrait DLC you still only have four characters per class (except for Sovereign) to chose from just in different stances.
Also Beasts and Highlander don't get any additional portraits.

Boss design is pretts repetitive.
You can hate or like the overreliance on patterns but the summons are just annoying - mainly because they are not something you can deal with as you wish since they are a "you lose" condition.
Doubling Flame Demons elemental blast, binding your legs, overclocking dance while also exploding and blasting your entire team with quickly rising elemental damage - these things need to be taken out fast.
Which makes a lot of classes and party compositions no longer viable.
Have two single target melee characters and a Gunner for your damage? Good luck getting rid of backline summons before you die.

Also they had a strange way to work around the huge HP pools.
A lot of HP means long fights and accumulated resistances mean binds and ailments become less and less useful (especially since EO2U's bosses seem to have a lot of immunities).
So instead of lowering HP pools they boosted damage by classes relying on binds and ailments - Dark Hunter and War Magus.
So now controlling your enemy is the single best way to deal damage outside fo feeding Fafnir steroids.

And the high damage average of Fafnir, Dark Hunter and War Magus makes other classes pale an comparison. Ronin, Landsknecht, Highlander and Survivalist damage is not bad (even though Survivalist needs the help of Affection Collar or Power Gel) but they are completely outshined by the characters that rip through massive HP pools like they are made of paper.

If you want your Protector to Scapgoat himself use Hit-Taker instead.

Generally using Front Guard and the Walls should be enough for your Protector to reduce the damage to manageable levels.

Link Order is extremely strong.
It has an awful damage multiplier but that doesn't matter because it copies 40% of the attack that activates it and 50% at 20.
So you get an extra 50% Fafnir damage with a little cherry on top that gets amplified one additional time by Attack Order.
Not to mention Link Order II just melts summons thanks to copying Fafnirs damage.

The only buff Arianna needs to use is attack Order. Prevent Order gets outclassed by Barrier and Protect Order is not needed because Vampire heals enough.

But the sixth stratum is fucking awful for pop-in. It genuinely makes it difficult to map since:
The whole startum is a series of floating platforms, with no walls seperating them. There could be a corner on that path that looks like a straight line, or even another platform alongside your own and you won't see it.

EOIV has some elements that are not pure dungeon crawling such as an overworld and side dungeons. Also it only has three floors for the main dungeons.

I prefer it over EOIII as it is technically more sound and way, way better balanced - but it's also the easiest in the series (unless you only run cheese parties in the DS games).

It's not that it's hard, just annoying. Lots of returning to town because of RNG, lots of waiting for paralysis to run out, lots of stalling with walls of apllette-swapped enemies.
And lots of missing hits. Oh god, I hadn't missed so much since EO3.
It's like the game is trying to stall me in the same place wasting resources for... whatever reason, since it's not like it's short on content either.
I know pokémon is at the bottom when it comes to videogame difficulty but at least its MD variant didn't go out of its way to be annoying and unwelcoming toward those who aren't familiarized and accepting of MD's vices.
