I have no idea how the fuck to survive in CDDA, I've tried following guides and such but almost always get overrun trying to scavenge any kind of supplies before I get to the boring end game

Nope! Mounted crossbows are rail mounted crossbows. So I could have both a crossbow on my crossbow AND a flamethrower.
Haven't found the grenade launcher attachment, just a standalone single shot 40mm.

Actually monsters can spawn with equipment.
I mean of course it would never generate an aux armor piece since those are never generated on mobs, but a shield would be good.
In any other case it would also create an actually good armor and weapon in case of hell knights/etc, but you can win crawl with any combo without even bothering with that

Also I'm pretty there's always a chance for mobs can spawn with rings so OODs could do that

Or you know, abyss scumming. Now that you can kill trash mobs to spawn an exit, abyss scumming as a mumo is theoretically possible, if horribly degenerate.

Player turns != game's arbitrary time system.

Any single action you take is considered one player turn, so swinging the maul would just be one player turn.

Resting is just pressing "s" or "." for however many turns in a row; taking off armour is just doing the action for 5 turns in a row and then finally being successful at it, and same goes for putting on armour; and so on.

So, no real way to hit the limit.

DCSS UI is really good compared to many other games. You literally have all relevant information, plus an actual useful map without losing much screen space. Another thing is you have your FULL LoS and then some, and almost nothing relevant happens outside of your LoS. So more screenspace for the actual game area is wasted. Its really well done.

Any suggestions for something that won't tax a 1.6ghz Netbook with 1GB Ram? I love Dorf Fort adventure mode, and how it's almost Peter Molyneux levels of "You can do anything!", but it runs like hot garbage on my Netbook. I have a vacation coming up, and want some stuff to play when I can't sleep at night.

Nethack, Angband, and their direct descendants can easily run on garbage hardware. Hell, more generally, the ASCII versions of most roguelikes can run on almost anything.

If you're looking for sci-fi/survival stuff, maybe try CDDA (although whether it's a roguelike or not is debatable).

Just finished my Obsidian Axe Naga run.
My weaponfu did not leave my hands a single time from the moment I found it on D:7.
Honestly it's such an amazing weapon. The +14 is great, the base weapon type is great, the demon summoning effect is amazing, the mesmerizing effect is only truly annoying during the very beginning of the game before you get some nice defenses and weapon skill. Of course some tele scrolls or a wandbloat are needed and I wouldn't use it that early assuming you didn't have some. It's only truly dangerous at the beginning or extended provided you were man enough to not have necrobloatation or bloatform or worship one of the two extended bloat gods.
Anyways, just who isn't swimming in tele scrolls by extended.
Really, for about almost everything that's not a pan/hell lord if you touch it with the weapon, it dies or is left to be ganbanged by an army of angry tier 3-4 demons.


Overall it was a very fun, neverending ride filled with NON STOP ∞ CLIMAX moments.
I also scored top 10 this time so I hope you are proud of me, AAAA

Basically the times I came close to dieing were all on the beginning, it had been ages since I last found the Obsidian Axe so I wasn't really used to it, but I also had an early wand of tele so I said fuck it
D11 had this insane frost multiple cyclops and hill giant vault with a frost giant at the end that I kept teleporting into, and later an hydra that was eventually gangbanged by the summoned demons
Also a Hell Sentinel got me close, literally the only enemy in the game I sincerely despise

* poison status (although not the degree)
* haste status
* enemy summons
* enemy weapons carried at a glance
* weapon types in piles and on the ground at a glance

If anything, uniques and other dangerous monsters are clearer in console, since uniques and high HD enemies rise up to the top of the list.

So you have to grind quests just to have enough dosh for food, plus each quest rewards you with platinums. You use platinum to train your skills, and learn new ones. The first grind is learning every skill, and gearing up enough to actually go into the first dungeon, which involves getting the requisite combat skills and slaves. And gear for those slaves. This takes fucking FOREVER, and after that you essentially have to lay down infrastructure by buying property and investing in businesses to gather rare consumables and cool shit. Its pretty interesting, but like anon said, its more autistic than runescape but without the social aspect.

Fug. If ever there was a build hurt by the loss of consistent haste, its the 27 stealth/Cbow sniper-in-pan build. Honestly, I'd just buy the robes/ring mails until you got an end game tier one. Those gloves are nice, but -2 strength is actually kind of lame when your strength is right on the cusp of what you need for ring. Maybe only get them if you want robes instead.

It does really high stabbing damage and has a super vampirism effect which also satiates vampires

Vampire's Tooth has special vampiricism, where if you get the roll where the brand activates, it heals you the full amount of HP that you dealt, as opposed to healing 1d[damage dealt].

Still, it's just a dumb vamp dagger, so it's not like you'd be doing great damage except via high-skilling and stabbing.

its vampirism is special cased either to be twice as much healing or to be 100% proc chance instead of 40% (the vamp demonblade unrand is the other of these two)

and the nature of stabbing means you'll usually be doing it while at full hp
