Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (Speccy screenshot), operating system, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

Dolphin devs once posted about how awful the drivers of mobile GPUs are, Nvidia ones are the best and they were just decent, Qualcomm ones are really bad, and how this was a major problem for any emulator on mobiles, how they'd get errors that would come from the problems of android + awful driver support that emu devs can't really do shit about.

Would that mean once the Switch is cracked, it would become easily the best portable emulation device? Since the other mobile stuff you use have those drivers/android issues with them;

Underpowered underclocked Tegra X1, don't expect miracles.

Don't expect some miracle API to make up for a huge divide in power. Game consoles will never be better than PCs for emulation , ever, no matter what pixie dust API is available for it.

How exactly do I perform the MGS1 Psycho Mantis controller swap in Retroarch (using mednafen/beetle)? I have all slots disabled except the first when I go in. I have that set to Dualshock so I can use analog sticks. Then, I open RA menu, disable slot 1 and enable dualshock in slot 2. It isn't working.

does anyone have an idea why "Mednafen Beetle HW" isn't working for me?
With opengl, the game seems to run normally (there's sound, I can press buttons), except the screen is black. If I go to change anything in options or change window size, pic related happens.

DirectX works, but the whole reason I'm doing this is I wanna play PS1 games without the wavy textures, and I need opengl for that.

And yeah, my rig has opengl 3.3 and above support

Probably not. By the time it's cracked there will probably be some high end tablet with a better Nvidia GPU in it.

>>175424854
Well they're still making new Tegra GPUs so a company other than Nvidia could still end up putting them into their tablets. Wouldn't surprise me if EVGA did it since they do crazy shit like shove quad core i7s and 1080s into thin laptops.

I'm setting up a new desktop and wanted to finally use bluetooth for my controllers since I've got more room (having always just used wired before). I'm using ScpServer and it's recognizing my device and is paired successfully and works fine as long as it's plugged in, but if I unplug it and try to use bluetooth Pad 1 goes to reserved and all lights on my controller turn off.

I followed the instructions in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_VzPpFHbCw

Do I have to use an actual usb dongle or can I just use the bluetooth in my network card? I've just been trying to use my network card bluetooth since I never use bluetooth for anything else anyway.

If you start tweaking shit, especially shaders, things CAN get a bit complicated, but it's basically as complicated as you make it even then. There are many clear preset-and-go options among shader lists.

Only thing that bugs me in the complexity is hotswapping media on certain systems, which it requires you set up playlists for manually.

It should just be an option to load a selected file without rebooting the system - a simple file selection wherein it automatically inserts 3 seconds of no-media running of the core in case the game demands there be an empty state between discs. Bam, smooth simple transition that is used exactly how an end-user would expect it to be.

>>
>>175443610
Contributing to an emulator without previous knowledge is literally impossible.
>>
>>175443610
People ask this question every now and then in r/emulation, so look for threads about it there. There's also r/emudev with some advice on this.

If you've never done any emulation work before, I'd advise starting out with writing something like a NES or GB emulator first. It doesn't have to be particularly good or accurate, but just getting anything up and running will already be one heck of a learning experience. Those are also thoroughly documented systems so you'll have a much easier time finding info.

That said, not everything from that applies to an emulator to a modern system like RPCS3, so you'll still get a bit of shock from the paradigm shift of emulating things in terms of hardware and cycles to emulating bits of hardware but also a lot of software HLE. Harder to practice that though, all those systems are pretty much inherently complex.
>>
>>175443610
>>175444692
Forgot to mention: In any case, hanging around the dev chatroom (IRC or w/e. I think RPCS3 mostly use Discord nowadays) is a great idea. Just reading the day-to-day discussion will give you an idea about what are the problems. Hopefully the devs won't have a problem if you ask relevant questions. Usually there's some kind of janitorial work that requires less domain knowledge to help you get started with the codebase.
>>
Is there an android emulator for 3DS homebrew?

why don't people work harder on 3ds homebrew emulators, it's the perfect system to play everything on the go and has the potential to play ps1, psp, n64, and all previous nintendo handheld games, there's no reason it shouldn't be completely broken down and made able to install android on to it
>>

Have you considered the 3DS has probably the shittiest hardware you can find these days on a portable thing in the market? There's chinese android trash all over the place that takes a dump on that hardware.

The only thing you can hope for is better PS1 emulation and that's about it. Or buy a fucking PSP for 40 dollars.

The only real frustration I've had with retroarch has been configuring my steam controller to work properly with it mostly because you're configuring it through three different layers. One through steam, one through retroarch itself and one with whatever core you're using. It can get extremely frustrating when a button doesn't seem to want to do what it's clearly programmed to do because somewhere in that line something isn't clicking. It works pretty good if you just go with the community setup from steam and don't fuck with anything in retroarch other than doing the bind all setup but even then it's given me a bit of grief. For example I can't seem to get the Z button on Mupen64 to register to my right trigger rather than my left even though I've clearly set it as that in all my settings. As to getting games to work though it's been a champ. It's played every 64 game I've thrown at it perfectly which from what I hear is pretty much a fucking miracle.

Haze is mad because the competition does an overall better job than him. They're too invested now to back away though. And even by emluator standards, MAME is incredibly insular and resistant to outside change.

MAME should be completely reworked. Make it an emulator focusing on 2D older arcade games. Then focus separate but sister projects for modern and 3D arcade systems.

btw, the "sharing" part is perfectly fine. That's why everything should be open source and documented. It doesn't mean you have to bundle everything into one project and one .exe.

It really goes further than that, he's mad that standalone emulators that do their own thing exist. Basically if you're doing something emulation outside of MESS you're cancer, doubly so if people prefer your software to his. I guess RA stings more because it appeals to the same "many systems under a single package" crowd that MESS might have been serving.

I had to force install in order to get the bluetooth driver installed and it's located at C:\Program Files (x86)\ScpServer\bin

This was done using SCP Driver Installer 1.2.0.160

I took jpeterson's old emulated motionplus branch and mashed it onto the latest version of Dolphin(git#54dcd3a). I'm not really a programmer so I'm amazed that I was able to get it to work, as a lot of Dolphin's code has changed since the branch was originally made.

I included my controller profile that I've been using with my 360 controller. I've played the game for about 6 hours without problem.
>>
Question: Do Virtual Console games emulated on Dolphin run worse than their original SNES emulated on Higan?

>>
>>175592703
Neat. Curious if this would work with Fatal Frame 4.
>>
>>175581616
Yes, when you go anywhere where you haven't been yet it's even much worse and very common. Only when visiting a place a second time, it's somewhat bearable.

You can avoid this by downloading some shader-cache from someone who has already played through big parts of the game, but it literally takes 16GB of RAM with a good shader cache.

>>175582375
They introduced graphical glitches in their new build which weren't there before and all that shit with the shader-caches just screams bad design choices. Just as they refuse to integrate something like cemu-hook. Heck, with so much money they could easily get someone to implement it.

But since everything is closed-source, we never really know what the heck is going on.

Non-open source emus really shouldn't be pushed with so much money.

Bittorrent is a flawed protocol simply because it needs a centralized tracker. Even goddamned emule and limewire were better in that regard. I have no idea why won't pirates switch to something else that's decentralized. Oh yeah, of course, it won't have a pretty website with comments and the community because an average pirate is dumb enough to download malware and fakes if there's nobody to tell them.

Extensions to a protocol build on the idea of sharing around lists of peers.

The Torrent protocol is brilliant for moving large files don't get me wrong but like Limewire and friends before it it's number is clearly up.

Something needs to be designed to be completely decentralized and built on the idea that you can't trust other peers on the network.

>>
>>175689173
better to emulate separately, the collections themselves are sort of like mini-emulators which means you're using two emulators to play simple 8 and 16 bit games. Also the collections introduced a lot of input lag.

There's also Mega Man Legacy Collection for the PC but that only has the first 6 games
>>
>>175604497
Not weird when you consider that PCSX2 is already the only PS2 emulator around so there's no incentive to improve it when they can just keep milking the support for a decade.

But coding for the PS1 allows them to enter that arena and potentially steal users from current PS1 emulators

That's how MAME (and MESS I guess) works. They make a CPU interpreter and then any machine that uses that CPU uses that same interpreter code. MAME/MESS seem to assume that every emulator is made from nothing at each step.

I remember a few years ago (well at least a good decade ago to be honest) I remember neogeo/cps2 emulation being a bit weird in the sense that you would need specific sets of ROMs for specific emulator versions and such. Anyways if I recall correctly, the PSP was good at emulating these games too. Nowadays, is there a need to hunt down these ROMsets for the PSP emulators available or does anything just work? I want to play some of the non-fighting games in there.

>>
>>175766127
The sensor bar is a bunch of infrared lights that the wiimote sees in order to orient itself. It has nothing to do with bluetooth. It has nothing to do with connectivity in general. It is also not optional.
>>
>>175753924
Kinda. Depends on the game and your system. For a lot of games to work, you have to find a specific unofficial build to get the most out of them, and then unless you have a very top tier computer, you'll probably struggle to keep 30 fps. And even then, things like some of the more special geometry shaders don't work, so some effects just won't appear. However, if you can get a game to run, upping the internal resolution a little bit doesn't seem to alter the game speed much in RPGs, and some of them look really nice in 720p (or higher, but much higher will affect framerate). But for the hassle, you might be better off buying a 2DS and spending the hour or so to hack it and not have to worry about game compatability.

18:25 <@Twinaphex> and just make retroarch-branded hardware ourselves
18:25 <@Twinaphex> because fuck it trying to align with these big publishers

>Says who?

16:40 <@Twinaphex> none of these emulator makers are ever going to get a single cent from me
>>
>>175773021
Yeah, no. Copy pasted IRC logs can be modified or fake, since that has happened before. Since we have people trying so hard to push "SP is teh ebil!!1!" memes by spamming our wiki, I'm inclined not to take such things at face value.
>>
>>175771859

No emulator developer deserves a single cent from RetroArch FPGA.

It's all the work of Team Libretro and theirs alone. The 'core code' is compartmentalized and besides, RetroArch as everybody knows doesn't come with cores.

You might as well think Microsoft should have to pay every game developer who might use the Win32 API or some crap like that ; that's about how much logic you're making.

Ask SP on twatter to confirm authenticity.
Oh, he showed and confirmed everything ;)
>>
>>175774739

Two shitty subsidiaries for some big publisher were sending e-mails yes and they wanted to either get a license to RetroArch or try to gain control over it somehow.

A demo was made and after they found out that SP didn't want to give up any rights or didn't want to go along with nonsense like 'relicense everything as MIT' (translation: so game developers can just take RA, rebrand it, make it proprietary and pretend they made it all), no single word was heard since.

The only thing that was done in one of those two subsidiary meetings was refer them to one of the Genesis emulator devs to see if they wanted to do something with them. If they managed to profit off it, well played. You will quickly come to realize that to most emudevs, BTW, it's all about their personal pockets and this whole supposed 'morality' is just a sham show; they are the same kind of selfish little people who just want to maybe make some money off their stuff.
>>
>>175774739

BTW, I told this on IRC because obviously I have nothing to hide and I don't mind telling this.

Zero fucks given on my end; I have always made it very clear to everybody that I want 100% independence and I won't allow anybody to neuter RA or gimp it.

>responding to the jelly pajeet
>>
>>175775689
Who, SP?
It's no secret he's jealous of the Cemu devs' success. I wouldn't call him Pajeet, though.
>>
>>175775814

Actually, unlike byuu, I don't go on some huge crusade on Twitter and say things like he does like 'Nintendo will close him down, sue him, blabla'.

I legimately don't care. Hell, when one Twitter user asked me when we are going to do a 'cemu port' (as if), I straight up told him - ask them on twitter to make a libretro port for you, entice them with money, whatever. 'Cemu' is not something you can get me to get triggered over. If I want to play Wii U games, the Wii U is blown so wide open you can run on it whatever you want with dodgy store apps. It will take approx. 4/5 years before any of your games will run glitch free on an emulator, so have fun with that shit, LOL.
>>
>>175776141
For someone who legitimately doesn't care, you sure seem to care a lot.
You're straight up salty as fuck.
>>
>>175776239

Salty about what? Cemu? Not really.

Actually, if we are talking about my saltiness, I'd feel way more salt towards some guy like Frank Cifaldi than i would towards Cemu.

My name is not called Byuu. Now there is a guy who is salty at Cemu. And he has a public Twitter profile that documents that jellyness.

So much for real hardware having zero latency. /vr/ would have you believe that real hardware on a CRT is the only way to play and that emulators always have 5-10 frames of latency.

I'll bet audio latency is the same story. I bet the 2ms-5ms audio latency that PC's can get with exclusive mode APIs like JACK or WASAPI is about the same as what a console would do.
>>
>>175776141
>>175776784
You're not SP.
>>
>>175776141
>unlike byuu,

Grep says that you used word 'byuu' 35 times in March and 16 in April.
>>
>>175776784
Why do you keep mentioning Byuu?
>>
>>175776935
Because byuu is byuu, and byuu does what byuu does best, which is byuu being byuu.
>>
>>175776904

Byuu is a guy that is a huge insufferable asshole yes.

Like Haze, he will take any opportunity to shit on RetroArch and have his koolaid audience believe lies and non-truths. This is without me engaging him or anybody really.

He acts innocent and he acts like a victim but he is the only one who does the attacks, nobody is provoking him or even mentioning his name. Like recently with his anti-bsnes Mercury rants on Twitter.

He is also an authority on 'nothing'. He claimed that SNES emulation intrinsically would add 3-4 frames of input lag and that this was impossible to avoid. Yet a core like bsnes Mercury running in RetroArch only lags behind the original hardware by 1 frame, and that is even comparing an LCD screen to a CRT one. I have severe doubts he wrote even 90% of bsnes singlehandedly; most of it was probably all heavily refactored code from Anomie, snes9x, zsnes, et al.
>>

>nobody is provoking him or even mentioning his name

You mentioned him 50 times on public IRC channel in last two months, mostly using words like loser and parasite. You must be mudlord level retarded if you think that doesn't count and you are innocent victim.

Can I emulate Banjo Tooie without glitches or should I go fuck myself for even thinking that's a possibility

Wait 2 more years or so till the LLE options are running well enough.

I haven't been following N64 related news in awhile. What's up with AngryLion and all that dev. autism?
>>
>>175771859
10k+ a year? That's a nice side revenue.
>>
>>175777274
t.b.h I've never seen him shit on RetroArch or libretro as a whole, just bsnes-mercury core. That may only be because he respects Themaister a lot though.
>>
>>175779694
I can't do LLE regardless, I have a 2.9ghz i5. I can do any HLE on this laptop.
