This thread is basically space-/gsg/ but we play along being under the guise of for being for all strategy games that do not have their own thread, focusing on 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate).

Finnaly after 50 years of terror the source of doom has been shut down the fleet Last hope led by admiral Pablasch have driven them back with a fleet of 70k and had taken losses well into 200 corvettes over 70 cruisers and at least 20 BBs. While this has cost trillions of lives and at least 1million force power worth of unbidden remain the galaxy takes a sigh of realif that the worst is behind them now we rebuild. Dont worry it is doable just very hard and very long dont give up hope I lost 2/3rds of my empire and they were at my capitol before I started to turn the tide.

There's more stuff to do early game now. The problem is that all the cool shit they've been adding lately only becomes available when it's past the point of it being useful. Or it just takes way too long to build for the benefits.

In 15 games I've had the Robutts once (and they were bugged and auto-purged themselves) the Prethoryan twice (and they were bugged both times and just sat there), two were on small maps where I won pre-crisis, and every other time was the Unbidden.
And out of those 10 Unbidden they have become threatening exactly twice, but neither of those times did they get to any more that maybe 5% of the galaxy territorially.

Crises are shit in general. AEs are much more dangerous.

Paradox has a habit of knowing there are problems with thier games they even know what they are. They just have no idea how to fix them. Sometimes they get lucky most times they dont. If it sheds more light keep in mind that they have some insane idea that people play thier games multiplayer only. Its why HoI4 shipped with essentially no AI AND STILL HAS NO AI. The next DLC for it is mainly centered on finnaly almost a year after realase giving the AI a major overhall.

I feel like this has got to be one of my mods fucking with something, no way you can seriously get that this early or cheaply normally.
>>
>>175340847
I get it sometimes too. Its cheap because its the start of thr game and you have 0 extra planets and pops.
>>
>>175340847
terraforming is a meme
>>
>>175340847
You can get it pretty early now. They seem to have cut all the pre-reqs, or if not all then most of them, so you can see it in the first few years with some luck.
>>
>>175340847
>Let's make terraforming accessible earlier so people can colonize differently
>Make the tech cheap
>Keep the insane price

It should be a gradual thing and a bit cheaper. Instead of paying 1500-3000 up front, you'd have a steep maintenance for a long time. You could stop it at any time or lower the maintenance paid (and slowing down the progress). Shit, EU4 has that system with colonization and it makes much more sense.
>>
>>175340847

I don't have a problem with terraforming being expensive and hard. It's not that easy to terraform a planet.

I closed that fucking portal ages ago, why are there so many unbidden still? Do they keep spawning?
>>

Just add a note. I even take missiles sometimes because playing every game as kinetic or lasers just gets boring. It's not like this is some MLG airhorns game where you need to leverage every statistical advantage to win. I just pick what feels right for the race. Hyperspace is a fucking pain if you don't force it for everyone though.

Probably because those are fuck-huge doomstacks that kill whatever gets into range. No portal no new ships but the existing ships don't go away and if that portal was open for a while the unbidden will have 1-2 million in fleet power.
>>
>>175352991
I know, but I design the FAQ with new players in mind, so it's better to tell them what's stronger, they'll try the rest of the stuff once they're experienced with the game.
I suggested hyperlanes because it's more newfriends-friendly, but apparently it's counter-productive and jump drive/hyperspace are simpler in the end.

I'll just change the pastebin to explain that kinetics are usually better but that they're for flavours in the end. That should fix most stuff.

Let me make it clear : you lose EVERYTHING but one colony ship and your technology.
EVERYTHING ELSE, be it stockpiles, leaders, admirals is lost. You're basically back to square one, and to top that, you create an unstoppable nemesis AND everyone on the map hates you.

So what determines if a planet has an anomaly or even what resources it has. Is it decided at game start? Like if I were to reload right before survey is complete could I savescum into all perfect sectors? Cause ive noticed once in a blue moon ill survey a planet well within another empires territory hell in a sector they have a planet on and I find an anomaly.
>>

there is a hidden event where if you fight it with a single corvette you have a chance of crippling it, a la Finarfin and Morgoth

You'll still die but the rest of the universe can defeat it
>>
>>175337746
If you have 50k and you can rush their portal before they expand you can wipe them easily. As long as the fleet is built properly (pure battleships, max large kinetic artillery), you will shred ~500k of unbidden fleet power at long range before they can even hurt you, but be careful where you jump in because you become a lot more vulnerable at close range.

Also they can't spawn until 150 years after the game starts, so if you get jump drives before then jump on that shit, you should easily be ready for them by time they can spawn.

Battleship fleets shred cruiser and even mixed fleets every time, where did the cruiser meme even come from? Have any of you actually tried it or do you just blindly follow whatever the reddit meta is?

I spent hours testing different fleet compositions and I couldn't find any fleet that would win out against a stacked BB fleet. I tried all the meme compositions here, pure cruisers, corvette spam, balanced, etc. Battleships are simply too tanky, anything smaller than a cruiser simply cannot dish out the necessary damage, and cruisers are just flat worse than battleships so a cruiser fleet will get annihilated by a battleship fleet.

Synthetic evolution got buffed
Megastructures other than habitats aren't worth the build time and investment but they come so late in the game it doesnt matter
Battleships aren't worth their costs but aren't actively bad either.
>>
>>175375969
Synthetic Evolution and Battleships being bad is kind of a meme, but megastructures are genuinely bad. They're far too expensive and lategame for what they actually do, and their effects can be replicated more cheaply and easily using habitats. Battleships are quite poor at destroying anything smaller than themselves, though, so they really only trade efficiently with other battleships or fallen empires, and synthetic evolution can be good but is just not as flexible as biological evolution.
>>
>>175375969
Synthetic Evolution is legit great.

Habitats are the only great Megastructure.

Ring Worlds and Nexus are neat but sort of useless except for showing off your big space dick.

Battleships are not minmax-material, but they are cool. Besides, it's a single player game, do you really have to push every last drop of advantage to beat an already simple-minded AI instead of, you know, just RPing and having fun with a little flavor?

Ensuring the survival of the state and the defense of the greater good can be lauded as an honorable decision. Dissidents can be handled in any number of ways, not necessarily death or imprisonment. Having a unified direction for the people to go in can arguably be better and more efficient than having an extremely flexible national focus.

Do you really want to know?

Don't keep a fleet there. Don't bother fortifying it, just keep a fleet ready in a nearby system.

Do you REALLY, REALLY want to know?

After you start activating the third obelisk the system and several nearby ones will have some lovely rape ships spawning in, with an especially big rapestation in Arcadia. It'll be a tough fight but focus on the stations in the other systems, destroying them will weaken the rest. Once those guys are down you'll be told to destroy the obelisks. Right now you have to do it to progress but the author is working on adding an alternative outcome if you keep those things up. After a while you'll get your hands on some of those lovely ships that were raping your fleet.

All in one or multiple? Because I agree, but I've been hesitating making ones with huge numbers in case something goes wrong, like if you stack -70% and another -50%, either you're at -100% or -120%, have no idea how exactly the game calculates it in some cases. You never know with paradox.

but yeah, none of those are super dangerous. -Science isn't bad due to orbital stations, same for minerals. Plus, if you make some garbage negative race, you can RP a sort of mind control species that lets the other races do everything for them, which I've always wanted

How such a basic feature was missed by paradox is beyond me.

Also you should probably make a pastebin account so that it's easier for you to edit and update the same pastebin instead of having to make a new one each time, it can get confusing trust me (I manage the pastebin for another general)

I'll think about making an account, but the truth is that I want things to be easy to change. If Stellaris suddenly get a major change making 90% of the pastebin outdated, it would be nice if anyone can modify it.
>>
Alphamod looks fun, but those incompatibilities kinda throw it out of consideration.

here's some more bad traits then

subject to change of course boys

>grounded, locks out all flavors of adaptive
-40% habitability

>non-combatants, locks out Powerless which is also in the mod so you can't hit -100% army damage, that'd be broken I think
-60% army morale and army damage

>impotent, locks out rapid breeders
+50% growth time

>depraved
-50% happiness w/o slaves, locks out decadent since it's a harsher version of the same word

>fractured, locks out conformists
+75% ethics divergence

>mentally deficient, locks out all flavors of science trait
-50% science on science tiles

>disloyal, locks out conformists
-25% unity, +25% ethics divergence, -25% army morale

Any suggestions? Disloyal seems weak. Gotta remember army penalties are borderline free because ground combat is so avoidable and exploitable.

>If Stellaris suddenly get a major change making 90% of the pastebin outdated
>implying

And also, if something like that actually happen, it would be as easy as someone making a new one and pasting over what is still useful from yours. It's just a quality of life thing for you to edit it easily in the time being and add suggestions if you want, and also so that it's not confusing for everyone else to see which is the current version

Also I'd suggest adding a version number/date and a changelog so this is further cemented. Nothing too fancy

I do it like this for the /r6g/ pastebin for example
https://pastebin.com/Wi0PwtYw

In case you didn't know, typing @h@ before a line highlights it. But the highlights are gone after every edit, so I'd recommend you just modify it in a notepad file on your computer and just copypaste from there so you don't lose any highlighting you wanted.

What do you guys think of the space piracy event?
I think it's dogshit and want to remove it, but I want to hear opinions first.

Also please respond to >>175388989
>>
>>175391656
Okay, I'll add a date.

Also, I admit it.
It was an excuse. The truth is that I don't really care about Stellaris, I just want OP to have a pastebin so that we don't have constantly the same questions over and over again because I'm tired of seeing people asking about the covenants, or begging for people to rate their edgy fanatic purifier species, or shitting on spiders or whatever else.
I'm fine with Stellaris discussion but I'm tired of seeing the same shit over and over again, and since I don't really care that much, I don't want to be put in charge of a pastebin that I'm only moderaly interested in.

Beside, I know that if I'm entrusted something important, I'll end up filling it with jokes and unfunny, forced memes. So while I appreciate the trust, I'm not worth it, and I don't want the responsability.
>>
>>175391920

The numbers are in the pic but are subject to change.

Some give low numbers due to how negatable they are. For example, Depraved is easy to counter with Caste System so anyone with that gets free trait points, so it only gives +2. Disloyal gives 2.

>>175391797

Trying this now, won't be including it if it modifies all leader costs. Want it to be species only
>>
>>175392070
Its effectively a nudge to remind you to build a fleet, if you've done what you're supposed to do its not a concern. Also it gives some nice tech progress at that stage of the game.
>>
>>175392129
Fair enough man, at least it's good to be honest
>>
>>175392070
it's shit as fuck
once you kill the first stack and the stations with 10 corvettes nothing happens

either remove that shit completely or make it so every 10s of years or so pirates come and raid your shit, increasing in power every time they do
>>
>>175388989
I'd make me build one on a big planet.
>>
>>175392070
It baffles me that these random fractious pirates scraped together enough resources to build a base and three corvettes completely undetected.
>>
>>175392279
I'll make the new OP soon, with the lastest pastebin (https://pastebin.com/abGgZJnT).

After that, I'll give up my rights on it. It'll be all yours, mate. Or whoever else wants it.
>>
>>175392208
>Its effectively a nudge to remind you to build a fleet
Yeah, and I get that, but I find it pretty irritating, especially since the pirates can spawn outside sensor range if you haven't done much expanding, and then you're jumping from system to system looking for them.

>>175392330
Especially since it often happens before you've even colonized a single planet. Where the hell are they coming from?
>>
>>175391030
Hyperlanes cucked.
Keep it alive, it will keep you alive, I have a Drake on a system that is the only way into my territory for that half of the galaxy, so it's either fight Drake or go 500ly out of the way.

>>175394465
When you shit in a river, you don't lower your butt until it touches the water. The spider was probably on the ceiling, and the little "ploc" alerted him.

Actually, it's quite loud, and it's not like the coffee was on the other side of the room.
There's also the motion of the coffee spreading, because velocity is more important than mass.
