Took my 10 hours or so spread over a couple of months. What were your biggest roadblocks on sl1 run? Which bosses did you have the most fun with? Which were suprisingly easy? Share sl1 stories.

Did you know that you can just walk under her at the start of phase 3 when she does her dark corkscrew into the air and backstab her after she comes down? Made the fight a lot easier. What makes the fight a bit of a nuissance is that you have to play phase 2 really patiently if you dont want to get punished big time and lose a lot of estus or straight up die.

Which boss got cucked the hardest by DLC weapons?

Is it Nameless King? I haven't though too hard about it, but I was getting a bit cucked myself trying to hit the King of Storm's head with the door shield's short range, but the door shields are actually really good for phase 2. I was also thinking how Lightning Bow would really fuck up King of Storms (Sunlight Spear killed him in 4 casts for me) and all the weapons with fire or dark damage that could fuck up Nameless King himself.

Because it's really not a good game. It's barely above Lords of the Fallen. The enemy variety absolutely kills that game and while the combat is nice, it's about the only thing it has going for it. The atmosphere, level design and everything that makes Souls games great is sorely lacking in Nioh.

Honestly most indie games are better souls likes than any big name soulslikes since 90% of what made the early soulslike games good was accident and coincidence anyway. Use literally any shield and just block then pressure them. Even Llewlyn works. Katana swings are slow; you've always got time to parry anything that they might throw out after you block a running poke, and even if you fuck up the washing pole is only going to hit you with one R1 instead of two unless they call your parry out and go for a backstab. Wolf greatshield + longsword fucking deletes katana users unless they're using the frayed blade, the one katana specifically made to not get completely boned by shields (though it has enough other weaknesses compared to other katanas to be considered "fair"; it's just more well-rounded).

Heres a trick though, and you can do it with a medium shield too: block the first r1 and parry the 2nd hit. It works with most if not all weapons.

It's actually not so bad. I suggested the build only because I've done it and had fun with it. Heysel pick is underrated and so are crossbows.

Once you get good at unlocked aiming farron hail you can do some decent damage with it and use it to bait people into melee range to chunk them with the pick.

How are you expected to beat the second boss when all her attacks one shot you and you do dick for damage? I can spend 7 minutes getting her to phase two then spill my spaghetti and die

Crossbows have always been great in ds3 and a fine alternative to shields for defense. It defends you by staggering enemies and continuing your offense from a distance, to say the best defense is a better offense. It's great to tag a bolt every time someone tries to parry or right after attacking before they can. Even better when someone has more range or hyperarmor than your mainhand, you shoot them whenever they whiff on the edge of their range.

SaS is simplified, easy Souls with no pvp (couch co-op instead), frequent platforming, and soft collision physics. to roll past a large enemy, you have to roll from up close, not far away. a significant fraction of the roll animation is standing up at the end. 60 fps.

level design is alright. there are one-way doors reconnecting a lot of paths. there are "brands" you get on your hand for abilities like walljump, most mandatory to explore fully and progress.

soul collection is split into gold and salt. most enemies give equal amounts of each. to regain lost salt, you have to kill your killer, not just return to the location. death costs 10% of your gold. gold is used at merchants and salt is used for levelling. choosing stats/upgrades is separate from levelling. see pic.

it has a post-rock soundtrack which is pretty unusual, if a bit repetitive.

Its still good. Not as meta as a few straight swords, but decent. Biggest weakness I find is I get parried often when I used it. I think its parry timings are easy to get used to. Its not as bad against hyper armor otherwise as a lot of people think. Still kind of low damage though without the leo ring.
