Limited pvp with the 2 hander stamdk, but rally will help to take the edge off of the vigor usage, and if you heavily invest in man at arms, you can pump out some impressive damage with your heavies. Against a dummy, heavies are accounting for almost ~20% of my damage, about 22k DPS sustained with unoptimized gear and enchants. That will change, and is in no way a real benchmark for pvp, but its looking like the changes aren't as bad as everyone thinks they will be, everyone will just have to change their rotations and enchants, possibly gear, but they will adapt.

My guess, worms raiment will be a necessary set on the buff bitch in trials, lich will be used for bosses that have heavy burn phases for the burst magicka regen, and this may be an interesting 5 piece, especially with how much damage you can now do with heavy attacks when perked correctly, doing damage and gaining resources at the same time.

The thing that will take getting used to is the timing, since staff heavy attacks are much slower than dual wield and melee heavy attacks.

pretty much, best to use a mage skill ability or other skill that gives empower before you do any big hits. Now mind you it doesn't really work for DOTs and Channeled attacks so the DOT portion of shooting star won't do more damage but that initial hit will. It also won't empower procs from set bonuses, but just your actual attack skills. Use it before big ults like shooting star (it will work on the first tick of elemental rage as well but not the subsequent ones) or Incapacitating strike, or surprise strike out of stealth, or crystal fragments, something like that. It gives magelight some use that way other than sitting on your bar for a passive. Actually the empower is half the reason gankblades slot radiant magelight, the other half is to spot other gankblades.

I've tried different stuff on my magicka NB and I just don't like it. Merc Resolve makes the rotations feel clunky as fuck and it doesn't flow at all like my sorc. How's DK? I read that the rotation is complicated, but that's not a big deal as long as it feels fluid.

It's quite a bit of bar switching, but it isn't too bad. More just making sure you cast the abilities that have similar durations at the same time.

So, in a boss fight, I'll let the tank grab aggro, then elemental drain the boss for magicka back. I'll pop flames of oblivion as I run towards the boss and drop an eruption under them from range. As soon as I get in range, blockade of fire, then I switch bars. I'll then use engulfing breath and embers (fire does more damage and another DoT), then I'll heavy attack to regain magicka, whip when I have magicka to burn. When blockade runs out, recast, and the next time blockade runs out I'll have to reapply it and eruption again. Besides that, its keeping my other DoT's up, kleeping the boos debuffed to fire, and watching my resources. With luck grothdarr will be going off all the time, and hopefully BSW will be proccing on cooldown or close to it.

Speaking of magdk, been thinking about trying VMA, and magdk is the character that I feel the most comfortable with. Have BSW in divines, grothdarr in divines, willpower jewelry, and gold sharpened fire stave, 300 CP. How viable would I be? I know that other classes have it easier, just asking if I'd have a shot.

Lol it's way worse than that PvE is completely dead unless everyone running heavy attack builds, all trials even on normal now require 2 tanks, not 1 tank and off tank but 2 full tanks because you literally can't stay alive anymore, healers are wearing 2 sustain sets and 3 cost reduc glyphs and people are dying because they have to stop to use heavy attack to get mag back.

vMA is full heavy attack like people who have ran it to point where they just go for weekly reward can't even finish it anymore.

This sustain nuke isn't "put on a sustain set or/and 3 cost glyphs and you're good" It's literally everyone builds for heavy attack because that is ALL you can do no, no matter there skill level, they can be 600k vma score or a random normal pug, you're just going to be heavy attacking mobs to death. No buts, no ifs you either heavy attack your way through a dungeon or you simply won't complete it.

Like the new trial right now everyone has to be running 20k+ health minimum, there people that did vMoL in beta who can't do the new trial with the same group.

They have lowered the ceiling and raised the floor at same time, if before it was like 3 floor house, now its like a 1 floor stilt house that you can't even see because it's in the clouds and everyone inside is hold their left mouse button down for 2.2 seconds at a time

Trust me if this went live as is this game would be finished within a month, old school runescape would have more engaging content.

How does the reward boxes' level scaling work as in is the level of the shit inside of them determined by the level you're at when you recieve them or by the level you're at when you open them for the first time?

Well its a good thing its not going live now and we still have a decent chunk of time before Morrowind for these changes.

I think the idea behind their changes is solid but the numbers are still off leaning too heavily on people not being able to sustain, however part of it also has to be around people changing mindsets not just gear sets. DPS race isn't going to cut it because its not going to burn down bosses fast enough to phase skip or end the encounter before tanks run out of health/healers run out of mana.

So i got to cp160 now and plan to collect my first gear set to let me collect other gear sets. My goal is to take my stamblade and be able to do as much pve content solo as possible.

To that end im trying to set up a pseudo-tank build.

I thought it would be a fun meme to stick 5 piece pariah on myself since the sets scaling defenses would stack with my vampire undeath passive. I can of course accomplish this with out taking up all my armor slots, and can have 5 piece open for medium armor if i desire.

I cant decide if i should go 5piece medium armor then, with a more dps oriented set (spriggan?) or just get another 5 piece heavy set and become some kind of 'tank' that stacks dots (rearming trap, poison injection, caltrops, endless hail on backbar) and then blocks shit with some kind of damage-proc tanking set perhaps?

You should look into more self recovery than surviving on the brink of death where a burst hit will probably still end you. Things like Vigor are important for stam builds since they don't have a lot of self heals, as a NB particularly you really only have heals based on when something dies (Blade/Mark) but if you want to kind of be a "psuedo-tank" then I'd look into Bahraha's/Leeching as they both help with self healing more than you'd expect. Briarheart exists but I'm not sure how much healing it really provides as a set.

I was looking into maybe medium bahrahas. Of course i have vigor.

The thought though is that if i get say, 30k hitpoints, once im down to 10k i should get about ~10% damage resistance from the vampire passive, -15% target damage output from my NB skills, and like.. an extra 8000 to both physical and spell resistance, as well as another 5k to each from NB passives, and another 2k from the pariah set itself, thats 15k more to both from just passives and set bonus, not counting the heavy armor passives, which will be interacting with flat percentile damage reductions in both incoming and outgoing damage.

I dont know, it seemed like a neat idea. Do you think pariah is a bad idea?

I dont really have a survivability problem vs groups of things already, so the NB class heals that heal on kill seem kind of useless to me. My main problem in my pure stamblade dps setup is just that sometimes i have to kite around more than id like vs bosses and it messess up my endless hail and rearming trap. Id much rather be more tanky so i could just stand there and let these things do the damage.

My idea is to basically let backbar bow+other dots do the work and then have sns on main bar and just debuff enemy damage resistance, keep my own buffs up, heal myself, and be a lot more free to block as needed and get attacks in when possible instead of now where i just try to frantically get all my stuff going as fast as possible because im anticipating having to kite out of it soon.

I basically want to be able to be as lazy as i was when i played a templar.

The issue I see with Pariah is that for it to really shine you need to be at low health. At low health if you get crit/hit with fire damage/some large hit even blocked then you might just die from that and the defense didn't do shit.

Compare that to a set that Bahraha/Leeching that is actively healing you and you are no longer worrying about floating around at deaths door but keeping yourself sustained. The idea with dots/sitting on s&b bar isn't bad you just need to be able to keep yourself alive imo.

Some sets are suddenly looking kinda interesting with the idea of sustain being a larger goal

I have those for fire and lightning, but swapped out my backbar for a frost staff so I could use frost blockade as my source of frost damage to proc the winterborn set. Unfortunately the frost staff is just purple and precise, and I don't want to gold up a frost staff just to experiment.

Then again, all the winterborn shit I found was reinforced, so really there is a lot that can be improved on this.
Still, the winterborn proc doesn't happen often enough and doesn't even show up on my parser. Running into sustain issues as well.

Yeah sure that the object of it and nobody is opposed to some sustain nerf to lower dps numbers but they complete gutted sustain atm and the only viable way to do all pve content is to hold left click. If this patch went through as is there will be no such thing as build diversity or being suboptimal, running anything but HA build on dk/sorc will not get through vet content full stop, it won't be possible for any player.

This patch as is would be most detrimental thing to happen to this game yet, damage numbers aside this would push two key roles to the mmo structure into the hands of the 1% as healers and tanks will become almost extinct, anything but meta won't be suboptimal but physically unfeasible to do most vet pve content.

5/5/1 with Necro, Julianos and a shoulder Molag Kena from the undaunted chest is better than any 5 2 2 2 combo, it's also pretty easy to get.

How much of a difference does a maelstrom staff make compared to a regular gold sharpened staff? I'm trying to increase my dps and more or less following the rotations that are out there but I can't get anywhere near the numbers everyone else is getting. You should have gotten a full allotment of enlughtened XP (this games rested xp), which should take you to ~CP 90. From there, you can craft training gear, but there really isn't a need. Just run the undaunted pladges in normal as much as you can, you'll get at least a level to a level and a half off the kills, and at least another level off of the mission turn in. Also, your fighter and mages guild dailies (fighter has to close 3 dolmens in a random zone, mages has you go and get an item from a random public dungeon, do the dungeon quest and kill bosses while you are there for more xp and skill points). Besides that, you could always spend some cash on psijic ambrosia and dolmen farm, but that is so fucking tedious. Only time I'd really recommend that is if you need to max out fighters guild. Alternatively, you could duo skyreach for mad XP gains, but you'll need a grinding partner. There are people who charge for carries, but they charge about 4k a level for normal levels, not sure about CP levels.

I ran dolmen untill cp 120. It was really fast till cp85 which is when enlightenment ran out but 120 was not hard either. I then crafted me some training stuff and i hit cp160 by the time i finished two zones worth of quests. You could probably just craft shit at cp90 and take off too but you may have to craft more stuff at cp 140 or something since my cp120 gear right now at 160 is kind of shitting out.

With the changes, stacking magicka will not be as effective, especially with the new trial mechanics (you'll need more health and stamina to survive and break yourself out of snares), so max magicka pools will be lower, meaning lower shields. With the changes to reduction and regen, with current gear sorcs can stack shields for about 30 seconds before going completely OOM.

Also, they are adding tweaks and more changes early this week. Expect some significant changes to dark deal to bring it in line with the changes to other classes (much higher costs and less return), streak, and pets getting taken out of the lime light. Pet builds will not be FOTM come morrowind.

Right now, the top trial guilds are finding ways to adapt, but everyone else is swimming in peanut butter. If you have a good group of good players with excellent communication using gear sets and powers that compliment each other's weaknesses, then you'll be ok. It's the pugs, especially tanks and healers, that are getting hit hardest.

I am so happy for the sustain nerfs that are incoming. Finally we may see some skill based play, not just endless, mindless ability spaming rotations. Completing dungeons will be an achievement on its own, no more carry, no more bruteforcing through mechanics, no more idiots not knowing how to block/bash/dodge. Players will need to cooperate, communicate and think in order to success in anything other than overworld. Moreover such change will make whole content harder for everybody and thus more interesting, No more BiS gear as You will need apropriate sets for specific situations. No more autistic DPS spam. No more faggots quiting the dungeon group after first wipe.
All praise ZoS for making the game harder not through new levels/gear expansion!

So, slowly going through motifs and getting them for my crafter. Newt in line is ancient orc. If what I'm reding is correct, the motif pages (and rarely the whole book) drop from enemies in the two public dungeons in wrothgar, half the pages in one and the other half in the other. I went into old orsinium for about 6 hours total over a couple days, cleared out tons of trash mobs and bosses multiple times, and have seen zero drops. Has this been changed, or is the drop rate just abysmally low?

I just hope that people understand this. Its already hard enough trying to find a vet trial group to run with, as they want you to do a 35k - 40k minimum DPS test while also main tanking and main healing after making a delicious baked alaska. DPS is going to go down, you won't be able to ignore mechanics like the lunar phase, and people will have to relearn how to deal with not being able to just nuke away the problems. It will take time, but hopefully some good comes from this.

I have always hated "DPS is king" in MMOs where it leads to burning through mechanics because it filters from the top players down and creates a terrible environment where players who are garbage demand the world from everyone else because "it can be done, this top 1% guild did it!".

Anyone have a decent resource on a rotation for magicka DK, preferably a video I can watch? I have pre trial gear, BSW/grothdarr divines and willpower jewelry, 275 CP, and I can barely get 20k on single target boss fights. People tell me that with my gear I should be getting 25k - 30k easy, so I'm assuming that its my rotation.

I know that mag dk is getting hit hard wiuth the sustain changes,so I'd like to enjoy the time that I have left before I'll need to probably re-gear and re-learn skills and rotations.

It'll take me months to farm a new gear set with new glyphs/etc. It took me months to optimize my current gear.

It just means players with gear and money don't have to do shit and can continue to be top dogs, while everyone else gets left further behind

That's why crafted sets exist as a easy gear set that you can do content with while farming for other pieces.

For some builds it could be swapping seducer in, adding reduce cost enchants, weaving heavy attacks in more, changing morphs to recovery/lower cost options. CP will also change because the system is more rewarding for lower point investments meaning you can grab things like recovery/tenacity and not be as dramatically affected as you were now.

It will encourage more socializing, you know actually talking(writing) to people, so before you start a dungeon run you talk over the boss mechanics and stuff like this.
New players will have more reason to join a guild, guilds will have more reasons to play toegheter, world becomes more dangerous so players become closer.

it just slows it down unnecessarily, and places a cap on skillful play. Meaning the better you are at swap canceling/anim cancelling etc, the sooner you'll run dry of mana.

at the same time, it punishes weaker characters more, by exponentially making sustain harder if you don't already have BiS gear to juggle

they are experimenting on a live social tissue it is hard to clearly predict an outcome of the changes you try to introduce, esspecially when whole legions of overreactive kids spam your feedback forums into oblivion, and you try to divine some constructive criticism while trawling for bugs

New player here, started in the free week. Most of my dungeons runs up untill now was just blazing through everything no skill involved and fucking mindless. I started playing with two friends and we did some dungeons at lvl 10, with only the three of us, pretty difficult but much more rewarding and fun.

Last night i ran crypt of hearths 2 with people of my own lvl range, we didn't blaze through it, had to figure out mechanics (all 4 of us we're new players) and it was way more fun then other dungeon runs.

Yeah, the 2's are much more challenging. Also, this is especially important now that you are learning the dungeons for the first time, get used to avoiding avoidable damage. For example, the last boss in spindleclutch 1, the spider lady, she uses her webs to pull everyone in, then does an AoE. If you block, you'll probably take a lot of damage but can survive. In vet mode, this is usually a one hit kill for everyone but maybe the tank, and will definitely be a one shot to everyone in hard mode.

You are in a good position, read up on mechanics and practice them in normal as if you were running vet mode, and when you get high enough to start running vet mode dungeons you'll transition smoother than Bruce Jenner.

think more about reactive gameplay where a good rotation might be that crucial burst that you need to perform during specific part of the encounter, the rotation (supplied with anim cancels) becomes more precious than now due to higher cost of a full cycle, a valuable power indeed
and at other times you maintain low cost rotation, if any; because you focus on attacking, blocking, bashing, dodging and manuvering

2's are much harder, normals you should breeze through unless you've got retards, ie tanks that aren't tanks, damage that cant even damage and a healer that actually doesn't exist and isnt there in the dungeon

There is currently one (1) viable playstyle for dps, which is to shit out as many actions as possible without considerations for resources for the full duration of every encounter. The common retort for criticizing this is to 'git gud', but all that does is cement linear thinking and remove flexibility from dungeon/boss design.

And yes, that's entirely the point. If you have an encounter where there's a burn phase as part of the mechanics, resource-ignorant game design forces you to meet the burn phase required dps for the the entire duration of combat, therefore eliminating the phase altogether. Adding in resource management as a concern means the burn phase doesn't just apply to the enemy, but to the player too, and gives the burn phase more meaning than it had before.
CoH2 comes to mind. Tanks can easily sustain themselves through the hm modifier, and a magsorc alone can maintain the dps necessary for the burn phase throughout the entire dungeon, not just during that phase

The changes also mean that last years HP buffs can get reverted; if groups lose 25% overall dps that means every boss can immediately lose 25% health, and probably more given that tanks and healers are getting hit by the nerfs too. There's no reason these encounters should take longer than they do now.

"Damage per second" as a concept is actually cancer, as it minimizes every encounter to how quickly you can empty a health bar and leaves no room for a dd to consider the rest of the game
