The protagonist should be a rich kid who is suddenly orphaned with most of his family fortune lost. Just like how Yu was the inverse of MC by being a city boy in a small town, P6-kun should be the inverse of Joker by being a sheltered kid who led a life of privilege and pampering. He's attending a fancy private school, which provides a nice contrast to the settings of the other games while still keeping the high school theme.

Story should surround a mysterious cult that's rumoured to perform human sacrifice and leave mutilated bodies scattered across town. Nice mix of the murder mystery from P4 as well as the dark religious stuff from P3. Protag discovers an alternate reality through playing a bizarre musical instrument he found in a dusty old attic or somewhere.

Social links include the protagonist's old-fashioned grandmother as guardian/Hierophant, a poor scholarship kid as Magician, a very proper Nanjo-type as Emperor, and a weird but cute bug monster girl as the mascot/Empress.

His entire fight was an enormous disappointment, since he was actually cooler in the first before becoming...that ridiculously cliche JRPG finale. Was he supposed to be, some metallic (close to humans like meta/sandal) angel + conductor? His fight was pretty shit too, and the music was worse after Rivers. It was just "don't use x move on y part" lolstatusailment each turn. And then once you win he curbstomps you anyway.
What happened with him? The other palace bosses at least had a gimmick here or there, save for Shido where it makes sense to brute force him.

Dug up the scene to check, and yeah, that's more or less what happened. The original text has both Yuki and Futaba using ドゥフ, which is just a creepy/ugly sort of laugh that's commonly associated with the creepier types of otaku.

The translator handling that particular line probably figured it was the closest equivalent to that in English.

The translation for this game is really weird because the side scenes like that, as well as all the movie references and stuff are completely adapted for Western audiences and it works extremely well for the most part, but all the translated dialogue for the main story is extremely literal.

I can see why they did that, for the stuff that's important to the plot you can tell exactly what the original Japanese said so there's no risk of things getting lost in translation, and all the side content gets reworked to provide humour over accuracy, so really you're getting the best of both worlds, but it's still rather jarring. It sucks that some people will just chock it up to a 'bad translation' without really understanding what's going on.

While it's possible that what the localization ran with is what Morgana was going to say before trailing off in the original version, I've never seen anyone guess that - most of the guesses I've seen since the original release were more along the lines of "I'm sure he really regretted how things turned out" or "I'm sure he really did care about [you/you all] in the end," which would tie more to the scenes surrounding Goro's boss fights.

That's because they hold Shidou more responsible for them, due to him being the one who ordered them in the first place (and whose shadow later even brags about being the reason Goro used his powers for that). They don't forgive Goro (and they have every right not to), but it's not too unusual that they'd hold the mastermind more responsible than the guy they know now was manipulated into becoming as warped as he was.

You can probably attribute that to different translators and editors handling different parts of the game. It shows with some characters' dialogue too - Morgana and Goro, for example, get a lot more wonky dialogue than, say, Ryuji (who stands out as one of the better-handled characters overall). Evidently whoever handled a decent chunk of the side content was more used to proper localization work (or at the very least rushed their work much less) than the people in charge of the main story scripts.

I'm not sure if this is why a lot of the main story dialogue skews more literal, though. A lot of lines look more like initial translations that weren't properly polished/edited for tone and sentence flow than intentional attempts to stay literal, and there's a fair few lines where they lost key parts of the original sentence, inconsistently translated some terms, added things to sentences that contradict later details (sometimes even in the same scene), or seemingly misread the original sentence (for example, there's a sentence where こんな is translated like you would この instead).

The impression I got from the scenes I've looked through so far is that the localization was probably rushed (as most of the errors I've noticed, and even things like the overly literal and/or stilted translations can easily boil down to not having enough time to do more than an initial translation), and having multiple translators as well as multiple editors ended up worsening the problem (having too many people working on a single translation project almost always causes problems unless you take the time to go over and streamline everything again after all the initial translation- and editing work is done).

That's fair. It seemed reasonable to me, but I'm admittedly used to the mastermind in cases like this getting more blame than those they used for their crimes, especially when there's an element of manipulation involved.

I guess what might've happened is that either the translator handling that line wasn't sure how to deal with an unfinished sentence (though this particular is pretty easy to translate), or they just interpreted too much into it (either because they thought that's what the line was going for, or because they really wanted to hammer in the "HEY GUYS HE'S NOT 100% BAD REALLY" idea).

Either way, it's not a good way to handle what was an intentionally ambiguous line, and the localization's take on it in particular feels... really ham-fisted, especially since this line is right after a chat where one party member mentions having mixed feelings and two others explicitly say they won't forgive Goro (even if they do blame Shidou more than him).
