This is AGDG's Loli Jam. In short, the theme of this Jam is cute little (anime) girls.

There are no restrictions about the genre etc. but try to make an effort and make a game where the loli's presence and her role make sense. And remember: Lolis shall not be sexualized, so NO LEWD STUFF.

Not strictly video games, and more to do with social media, but...

A very long talk about what tactics apps and websites use to grab and retain attention, why they do it, why it works, implications for the future, AI, and so on.

I'm not overlooking any built-in functions in GM:S for formatting a string so it'll fit in a textbox properly, am I? I don't mind writing a script to do it myself, but it seems like a common feature a lot of games would need so it's a little strange to be absent.

>>
>>174507453
Hey! We're a team of programmers looking for an artist.
A quick introduction so you know what you'd be getting into: there are ten of us, and each of us are working on the same game in several different engines for a concurrent release across several flavors of code. We're using everything; Unity, all four Unreals, GameMaker and 2, Godot, Pygame, all versions of RPGMaker including the PS2 release of the game, several dozen different small libraries in a number of languages, and six of us are simultaneously working on our own separate engines in sixteen dfferent languages including COBAL, Assembly, and raw machine code.
We only need one artist to make assets to be shared over all the different engines we're working on. We're willing to pay $500 upfront, then a commission per asset you make on top of an hourly salary as well as a 50% cut of all future profits once we release (since artists are the most valuable member of any gamedev team).
We're really flexible with the content, too. Do you have an email we can discuss this over?
>>
>>174507910
Sorry, I'm not interested in working with those engines. Good luck though!
>>
I'll program a game for you as long as you provide me with esoteric original memes every day.
>>
>>174507943
Which ones? Did I mention we're also using the engine you're interested in working on? We also have a coder who's not even working on the game.
>>
>>174507976
Sorry I'm not interested in working. Good luck though!
>>
>>174507293
Oh, duh, it was built into draw_text_ext.
>>
>>174507992
That sounds perfect! We also have a slot for an artist who won't work. It's an avant-garde west coast approach to gamedev we learned about in a seminar. The salary still applies. What's your contact email?

>Sorry I'm not interested. Good luck though!

Hey guys, Chad here again. Still looking for the following for my game:

- 4 programmers (C++ only)
- 5 3D artists (Blender only)
- 2 concept artists (GIMP only)
- 2 sound makers (Fruity Loops only)

My idea will redefine video games as we know it. I've had a few emails from people asking for the game concept prior to joining the team but I just can't give that information out in case it gets stolen. You'll have to sign a contract and NDA first.

As for payment, 40% of the total game's profit will be divided between the team.

Please contact me at [email protected] if you're interested

Good luck!

Chad

It's become part of my workflow to restart Photoshop every 2 hours or so because it slowly leaks memory.

Even my fav devs seem to be absent for months now.

Other than that, comparing to other creative generals, /agdg/ is more like a chatroom which obviously leads to a lot of offtopicing and shitposting, inside jokes and so on. Not to mention that game making had become something very available to the masses, and since nearly everyone who has ever touched a game thought once "hey, I'm gonna make something cool like this once", we have a flood of "how do I into game dev, what engine should I use" etc. kind of posts.

Does it matter as much for parts that won't really get deformed ? I can see why it's bad on the belly/back/chest and I know a human won't have any really static part, as we have muscles everywhere.

You mean the elbow ? It's cut in three loops so that it doesn't collapse when the armature moves.

Yes absolutely. The texture and unwrap would just look dead wrong. Imagine wanting to animate it after you're done modeling and it's completely fucked up.

No hard object modeling doesn't require such a topology. Organic objects do.
>>
>>174511730
do you have to use gamemaker?

gamemaker is really hard to debug

visual studio is much easier because you can just step through it

also I saw in their features list it allows you to step through the draw passes on the gpu and debug how it assembles the final screen, that might be useful

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh873194.aspx

I would just write in C# or C++ targetting some easy library like maybe sdl or cocos 2d

Views and surfaces in GameMaker aren't very intuitive to use, but I think I got it figured out well enough to do integer scaling for pixel games. Surface-based approach should simplify a lot of things in the long run since I can just treat the game as running at a set base resolution. Hopefully it doesn't interfere with mouse positioning when I get to that, though. Also made a basic dialogue box, but I'm going to have to write a script to handle long strings that require multiple pages.

Using a base resolution of 640x360 so it can scale perfectly to 1920x1080. Think that looks okay? 16:9 aspect ratio seems pretty common these days.

Have you ever marvelled at how the internet basically exists for porn and people will pay these amateurs hundreds of thousands a year to WORK on a porn game... yet porn games are basically verboten everywhere on the internet and it's basically unthinkable for even an indie studio to make a porn game unless they're japs.
Seems like there is a massive untapped market out there, especially with VR in its infancy.
>>
What if I promised a Steam key once the game is finished to everyone who donates at least $1? Seems like a good deal.
>>
>>174517531

>>
>>174517213
It's really not intrusive at all. For anything that can happen on the planet, there's some asshole who'll get triggered by it, but it's highly, highly unlikely that you would lose a statistically significant amount of downloads as a result of having a donation prompt. More likely people will just ignore it like they do with every other itch download.

That's a common tactic. I assume it's some level of effective.

Of course, even that's not one-size-fit-all. If you've got a really promising project, you can double tap people, both getting them to donate AND buy the game.
>>

Most of the vidya porn involve loli, rape, and other extreme fetishes that would be difficult to run a legitimate company around in the US. To be fair there hasn't been an /agdg/ game released on Steam for a while now. Monolith looks like it's going to be the next one released.

They WILL post keys right?
>>
>>174518460
No, they asked developers already on Steam and they said values $100 - $5000.

If you're telling us your new name then it's not new at all and you are still the brown manlet posting on reddit.
>>
>>174520141
All right, let me outline how this has a slim chance of going.

You make something under the name Sundiata. Miraculously, it is something people end up caring about. Some faggot from AGDG feels like pulling you under, so he pulls up this thread from the archives and refers people to the conversation where you admit to your old name while picking your new one. Now people know your old alias, and associate everything linked to it with your new name, and someone ends up bitching because you made some insignificant post about redpills and women on reddit many moons ago.

All of this is relatively unlikely. Most people here won't ever be cared about by anyone beyond agdg if that. Even if they are, chances seem decent that they can get by without anyone trying to go deep into their past. Even if that happens, chances are slim that anyone would sincerely give a fuck about some redpill reddit post.

But it could happen and you should be aware of that.

Whichever you want. The compo is the "classic" style, you have to make everything from scratch (except for engine or libraries) during the 48 hours you have to make the game, you also have to release the game's source code.
The Jam is more relaxed, it gives you an extra 24 hours, for a total of 72 hours. And the rules about using content you've made before the jam is less strict. You also don't need to release the source code.

You could just aim for the compo and if you don't make it in time, finish up and submit to the jam. That's usually what I do.

Okay bro, I get it. You want a gameplay jam. And I totally support you. But if you want a gameplay jam the least you could do as a jam creator or even as a "person that want a jam to happen" is to submit at least a SINGLE game to it so it doesn't end with LITERALLY ZERO GAMES like the PREVIOUS GAMEPLAY THEMED JAMS like:
It makes it seem to everyone watching that there are LITERALLY NO ACTUAL GAME DEVELOPERS here in agdg that want a gameplay jam which is of course it's not true because you are an agdg game developer that wants a gameplay jam so, yeah, go make it happen buddy.

Basic inventory functions are working. Items can be added, equipped, and examined. I've got the classes set up for stackable items, such as ammunition, so the next step is probably adding weapon capacities, and some functions to automatically stack ammo and such when you find it.

You guys. If you consult an expert you'll find that gogem is suffering from personality disorders and is literally mentally handicapped. He has a really poisonous and rotten personality so it's easy to be hard on him and forget that he is literally mentally disabled. He can't work a job, he has to live with his parents, and if you think his games are "ironically" bad or that he really thinks they're good you don't get it quite yet. This is very complex.

The solution is simple though. Filter him, ignore him, and if you see him getting too much attention at any time in the thread just gently remind anons of his condition and move along. We need to help gogem by helping him leave agdg. It begins by accepting that he is not well.

Im only about a year late and I'm sure it will be deleted promptly tomorrow now that I have finally did it. I've been too busy to post lately in between keeping up with all the extraneous shit, so I guess for anyone that remembers me; you can go here to bully me ;_;

He is an openly homosexual game dev who doesn't seek attention for being gay. So in some ways he is reserved and does not speak about being gay, and I have never seen him say anything else racist.

You shouldn't try to decipher the beliefs of someone with a personality disorder though. He will say anything he thinks will either upset people or bring them on his side. He is never unbiased or impartial on anything and takes argumentive stances on everything. Personality disorder. There's nothing there. It's like a robot who has been programmed to be an asshole.

If we could get a look at his parents and their mental state and saw what genes this guy is playing with I think gogem would suddenly make a lot more sense.

In the mean time I've been writing out everything idea I had, I've looked at other stealth games for inspiration and I've tried writing on paper the code structure of the main systems like AI.
During the weekend I'll actually start coding the gameplay and modeling the characters. I had already set up player movement and enemy patrolling but I will probably rework them somewhat.

Pixel art is pretty much drawing at low res. It's as diffcult as drawing/shading what you want plus picking the right colors.
>>
So in old Resident Evil games the character will turn their head to look at objects on the ground and such, like dead bodies on the floor or an item on a table. How could I go about doing this in UE4? I was thinking give each item a trigger volume and whenever the player overlaps it call a lookAt function. First where should said function be: on the player or the item? Second how do I make the player's head only turn up to 90 degrees left or right before looking away (because we can't turn our heads to look directly behind us)?

You can draw hideous things at normal res and then use nearest neighbor to downscale and they may end up looking better pixelated. What your left with can be your baseline and then you can touch it up to improve it.
That's what I'm going to do for one of my games.
>>

No. The only thing that's difficult is finding what classifies as respectable, which just doesn't exist.

Drawing? Colors in general, find a balance.

I'd put it on the player because that's quite a generic function, you might want an enemy or an objective to also be able to trigger that in the player.

If that >0 then the player is facing within 90* of the object

Take core, learn Gamedev online by yourself.
Why? For gamedev jobs all that matters is a portfolio, for systems and all the other stuff you might end up doing the courses you took have a slight relevance. You can learn both online, but the credentials of Track A are more valuable.

but those are brick layering anon, they just decided not to show the brick texture over the entire house because its already implied. its an art thing

put it on the player so you don't have to worry about not attaching a function to specific objects - jusst tag the objects (can UE4 use tags or something?) and when the player enters the trigger(collider or whatever it is called), you run the lookAt.
> Second how do I make the player's head only turn up to 90 degrees
Get a vector looking straight, then when you turn your head compare the angle between your straight vector and current looking one - if they're outside of -90/90 range, go back to looking straight.

Do you know about this procedural music generator?

You can select a style and length and it just makes a track for you.

Thanks guys. But now how will I actually turn the head of the character? I haven't messed with rigs yet and have only been using the starter pack UE4 character for animations and such. I also don't want the head to instantly snap to looking at something. It should quickly turn then keep looking at it.

I don't know what that is.

There is a "Find Look at rotation" node which does that for you. Then just feed that vector into a rotate node with a timeline as the alpha track.

error 1: username must be 5 chars or more.
error 2: password must contain 2 of each uppercase lowercase special char numbers chinese things your mom's name..

Jesus Christ I just want to check it out not perform a bank transfer.
>>
>>174545639
It's funny because forcing the user to use a minimum amount of special characters and shit only decreases the amount of possible passwords, making it easier to bruteforce it.
>>
>>174545757
anon, think about what you're saying for a minute

forcing certain things in passwords means there is a much higher minimum number of bits of entropy for a password

I hope to god you dont have a password with your first name and your birthyear or something

Long passwords are far more secure than a shorter random string with special characters.
https://xkcd.com/936/

Requiring special characters is utterly useless and actually detrimental since users will naturally choose shorter passwords if they are harder to remember.

It's neat, but the lack of any movement in the song is disappointing. It doesn't seem much more advanced than any of the other procedurally generated music tools that have been out there for years, except for the decent quality of the instruments samples.

Yeah sure using common dictionary words is stupid but so is requiring special characters, the article says literally the same I did:

>Password validation heuristic rules, (e.g. minimum length, forceful use of alphanumeric characters, etc) are largely ineffective and are often counterproductive.
>These heuristics are inadvertently leading users to the repeated use of very common solutions, which can be easily remembered, while still obeying the requirements. In fact, users typically circumvent the imposed pseudo-randomness by using a few common tricks ("p@ssw0rd" being a typical example), which are then used repeatedly.
>This leads to the repeated use of what are, in fact, very weak passwords, highly vulnerable to statistical guessing attacks (a dictionary based attack ordered by decreasing probability of occurrence).

The only difference is that the author is shilling for shitty password managers that generate unrememberable passwords, it's a really fucking stupid idea to put all your eggs in one basket.

there's much better ways to prevent password bruteforcing, like having the user reset his password via email after 5 failed attempts.

Password rules like those are ridiculous and lead to people having to remember shitloads of random passwords, which leads them to write them down somewhere (digitally or on paper), which can cause way much more damage.
