So what exactly made Mjolner kill

Like I know it's significantly weaker than it used to be, (only 40% as much DPS as it used to have), but it's still 12 spell casts per second on top of your main damage skill. That's easily 20k base DPS. I could see you breaking 50k on spells alone with two of them. It's not broken, and it's not double dipping, but I can't see it being that bad compared to its alternatives.

that's not my point though, you need decent experience of the game to adapt quickly to the new changes, otherwise it's just overwhelming new information on top of already overwhelming information you didn't have years to gradually assimilate

so the real question, do you want to be out the loop now and get back into the groove before 3.0 regardless of the changes it brings, or be out of the loop then for several weeks

My Witch was my most tragic character, I had a really well equipped MF LL spork build, then you know what happened to spork, and I've been rebuilding her ever since with each new major patch while I still played, but it was all shit (I remember doing flame totems, incinerate totems, and that ice rain skill, forgot what it was called).

clear speed is emphasized nowadays, you run more maps, you get more loot, you earn more currency/hour, days boss farming like piety/dom runs are long gone but there's still some targeted mfing possible with things you have once gain no clue of, like atlas sextants + prophecies stacking

some builds can abuse IIQ gear but they're more niche than the norm, IIQ/IIR gear as a whole tends to be garbage but you have some exceptions that work well on builds that already clear fast

A piece or two of IIR/IIQ (especially IIQ) can be great. Personally, Bisco's Collar is sleeper and super under-rated. Assuming you don't need a different amulet. I think the main reason this is under-rated because most ESfags won't use it.

bisco's is actually primarily used by ESfags

because they can get away with a gear slot that has no ES while it's much more penalizing for life builds to start running 0 life uniques

I don't have to imagine, that was me. Pretty sure it was more since it was the actual legacy one, not the one with the nerfed proc rate.

I never really played the market to amass wealth so with each patch I pretty much always sold all the stuff from all my other characters to fund the one with the new FotM build and then did maps with it to gain some of the currency back.

To elaborate on this, look at fucking double dipping. Double dipping wasn't just popular because it was lots of damage - you can disintegrate packs of mobs with far less damage than you get from double dipping. DD was popular because, unlike basically fucking everything else in the game, it actually let you deal respectable damage to bosses, and even "scaled up" against bosses in the case of poison - because they could actually live long enough to receive multiple stacks.

But nothing else does that. Basically everything else has had all the single-target patched out of it. Spells that shotgun haven't, and summons haven't, and obviously namelock or any other "dedicated" single-target skill hasn't, but that's basically it. And single-target skills barely deal any more damage to bosses than AoE skills do.

Summons are going to be the next OP thing, mark my words. They scale up against bosses. Bosses can kill them for instability and instead of swarming the enemy pack with lots of single target, they can concentrate their efforts on the one boss. They "scale up" in damage against bosses because they all attack the boss instead of all attacking different enemies, so they'll be used by everyone. Count on it. With the usability changes, they'll be the next hit thing.

I didn't say instability was good. I said that it was available. Summons aren't going to end up doing anywhere near as much damage as DD did, but they will end up having better single-target than most things, just because they actually have options OPEN when they encounter tough single enemies rather than CLOSE.

If you attack a large group of monsters with 10 SRS and each SRS attacks ONE monster, then each monster is taking ONE SRS of damage. If you attack a boss with 10 SRS and that boss is attacked by MORE than one SRS, then it is taking MORE than one SRS of damage.

It isn't literal scaling, but, again, it is a concentration of damage, a "single-target mode", which is lacked by the vast majority of skills. There are things like Slower Projectiles and Decreased AOE, but they're swaps. Summons concentrate damage as-is, out of the box.

I'm not saying it's anything near DD, but it is a functionality, a versatility, an openness, lacked by most other skills.

Crafting noob here trying to get my head around things...

So I have a Bone Helmet (+40% minion damage), with +2 minion gems (prefix) and a meh strength roll (suffix).

I wanna regal it, with the aim of getting either Life, +all attributes or +dex, and then craft on whatever I didn't get.

Presuming I have access to all master crafting, do I just bite the bullet and regal it and hope I get one of them and craft the other, or is there some wizardry I can do with meta crafting to give me better odds?
