So I currently have a ilvl 865 Gushing Wound (increases damage of Rupture) for my rogue which is the type of relic I want for Assassination spec. But I just got a ilvl 910 "Fade into the SHadows" (reduces cooldown of Cloak of Shadows) relic off a world boss and it gives +13 levels to my Artifact weapon.

The ilvl 910 relic is better, right?

You don't have to. The way it works is

>leader puts in his +5 key
>at the end of the dungeon depending on how much time you took to complete it you receive up to 3 chests

you will also receive a Keystone yourself if you don't have one already. You could though just get a group together and plug your own key in there. The chest in your Order Hall goes by the highest Mythic+ dungeon you have done for the week.

If you did a +2 today and nothing for the rest of the week you'll receive loot around 875 and a new keystone next Tuesday. However if you did a +2 today and a +10 tomorrow you'll receive a piece of 905 gear next Tuesday along with the new keystone.

If you use your key and don't complete the dungeon in time (time actually expires) then you will receive 1 chest, but your key will be depleted and to recharge it you have to run that dungeon again and complete it in time (though you will receive no loot because the key is depleted).

+10 is about the max but people are going to want a hell of a lot higher than 886 for +10. Most people want at least 895-900+ for 10-15 the difficulty is so high and especially depending on the weekly stipulations.

I believe this week is Volcanic: enemies cause flames to form under your feet and damage you for even more

and Grievous: if you're below 90% health you take ticking damage until you're healed above 90% health.

so you'll want some good gear and have really good survivability to do a +10 unless you just pay some 200k gold and get a carry.

But honestly no there's no real difference between doing your key and someone elses. Your key will upgrade if you use it. If your key is a +2 Darkheart Thicket and you finish it in time then it will upgrade to, say, Halls of Valor +4 so on and so forth until you just fail and its depleted.

That's WoW for ya. You can't gear up unless you do Mythic+ but you can't do Mythic+ without gearing up. Shards are about the best option honestly. Just look for chests, do bosses, and clear invasions each day. Takes little time to get to 5000 surprisingly.

Invasions will actually give you at least a piece of 860 gear. World Bosses on the Broken Shore will grant you 900 gear (regular World Bosses only give about 860).

Its really just all about lucky Titanforging. You shouldn't need that high an Ilvl to do some Mythic+ stuff though. I did a +7 Nelth Lair the week before patch 7.2 (with the hardest possible stipulations) and got a piece of 895 gear in Order Hall chest. My warrior was only 883 or so.
