The reviews are kind of on a bandwagon.

Most of the memorable moments that people love about the game came with the sequels regardless of what people openly admit, because it's easier to work with an already established universe. What people admit have more do to with their taste-identity than with their real opinions. The real opinions are more portrayed by fanart, most of which are post ME1.

The current opinions of MEA will only stand until it is a trilogy of it's own, not a single game trying to compete with the combined weight of 3 concurrent games.

Only ME1's overall story made me feel anything, but I acknowledge that it's kind of generic. I didn't like ME2's and thought the suicide mission wasn't all that exciting. ME3 had moments that were great but overall it was a mess.

Andromeda's main story plays out fine but it's pretty generic. They played it completely safe and the end result was underwhelming.
