You could try what either Birgirpall or Jerma (can't remember which off the top of my head) used to do, where they did the usual plays and edited videos so the most boring stuff wasn't there, and used 'subtitles' instead.
I say 'subtitles' because they were very fluid, dramatic bursts of text instead of the simplest possible, e.g. something goes blatantly wrong so the word FUCK takes up the whole screen for a second in all caps.

You'd have to be good at editing to make it look good though, and would have to come up with a lot to say if you tried to do full playthroughs uncut.

For flight purposes you might want to try to get the bee mount, it requires some queen bee farming but sweet jesus it's worth it. Also the hornet staff is quite valuable for this fight.

You should also consider taking a moment to go to hell. It sucks but expert progression is fucked and a imp staff, hellstone armor and the goddamn molten fury are things that make things much easier.

The best way is doing AFK, with Traps from the Jungle Temple... make a direct scape from dungeon guardian made by 3 or 4 teleporters way out to the dungeon... get the dungeon guardian out for a walk.. go straight line (previously made by you)... the structure where your traps will kill the Guardian should be about your screen length double size (maximun or you will get the Guardian unspawn... ), with a teleporter at each side, 8 blocks height max. with a wire line setted up to get power from a button, you will run into your trap and reach the second teleporter, you will let the guardian to almost reach you, you will activate the teleporter (along with the traps) you will get teleported to the teleporter on the other side and the Guardian will change it's direction to reach you, the 1 second timer will be the key, to the afk teleporting, and the traps activation... this will take almost 40 minutes if you are playing expert mode, go and get some cornpops to watch the Show of the Dying Guardian ... hope you can actually figure out this easy easy easy easy AFK Dungeon Guardian Farm

That's how it works right now, we used instances from super terraria world but we found out that we could just make rooms exist outside of the map area.
This also gives the big benefit of being able to make actual houses that you can enter without them being teleport traps to some sinkhole in the ground.

I like ranged characters, so I tend to go with the Minishark or Space Gun; the Hellwing Bow from the underworld (with piercing-type arrows) is probably the best pre-hardmode bow. I use the Minishark for WoF, and the Space Gun for crowd control during invasions.

The problem with Terraria is that you're working in a 2D space and natural spawns at best, so you either gotta make Parkour or Puzzle and give the player whatever to defend themselves.
I've only seen one Survival map and it was really meh, taking place in a fortress basically fully infected with Corruption with gating areas based on what you can kill cause nat spawns until you overcome the shit, spawn the Eater of Worlds, and win by killing it. Or something like that.

Should I start building in tEdit? Apparently you can copypaste single blocks in it, that would open many new possibilities.
