Actually making a thread before the old one drops off edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

At wildlife sanctuaries, the loss of an eye is considered a sufficient disability to prevent the re-introduction of a raptor to the wild. This grizzled old bird was living in the wild, however, thanks in part to the fact that the squirrels in his area were fat and stupid.

Mostly because giving away info about your teams can be a problem if the enemies get it.
That's how everybody knows that RPGCodex has Steel ovens.
>>
>>173774780
Do you guys test this stuff by manually playing both nations involved or is there a faster way?

Is Vastness as powerful as it seems?
>>
>>173793254

No, it dies to pd easily.
>>
>>173793254
pretty much, yeah
>>
>>173793291
Does the damage reversal at all make up for the utter lack of protection?

If I were to graft on a copper arm, what would I put in that arm?
>>
>>173793793
Your best shield. Or the one that let's you have awe.
>>
>>173793793
Damage Reflection means that whatever is attacking it needs to make an MR check or fail to deal damage. That's pretty nice. If it's had Divine Name cast on it, then it also has S paths, so it can toss up an astral shield to make things paralyze themselves on it (but also adds magic duel vulnerability). If you order it to Fire, it will also spam S spells while it's mindblasting.

Its functionality as an SC really depends on what it's up against. Its limited slots means that it's harder to gear against specific enemy matchups, and its reliance on reflection and ethereal means that units with decent MR and magic weapons can chop it right up.

Against MA Ulm (just to give an example), I'd equip it with a a fire res ring and a regen ring. If kept way at the back, it will be out of range of ulmish evo and would basically die only to fire elementals. If the ulmishman reacts by having priests scripted to attack / iron blizzard, then you can swap out the fire res for an air shield item

>>
>>173790680
Rpgnet has a disciple maneater and vampire hero left in a besieged capital.

Dom4mods is down to a handful of territory-mostly just their capitals. They may have lost one.

Florida is sieged down. Lemurians are good at sniping holy SCs.

The Last Fantasy is down to land caps, but has most of the sea. Turns out that mattered less than certain people predicted.

Vanheim, Clockwork, Teamliquid, and toshidar are all doing ok.

Trow and codex are the game leaders.

>>
>>173793254

Vastness is kind of weird. Sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it dies from running a tugboat into it.
>>
>>173805450
They're also doing alright.

One of two teams with multiple caps.
>>
>>173805536
Multiple other than their own, I assume?"

Glad to know our teams are doing okay, even if it would be better if it was /domg/ and /v/anheim as the leaders in my opinion. It's nice to see dom4mods and Florida get blown out since the former have an (undeserved, in my opinion) reputation as good players left over from Dom3, and the Florida guys just rub me the wrong way as individuals.

And TROW and Codex are both composed of good folks, from what little I know of them.

Domg has successfully sieged two caps. Vanheim is currently sieging two.
>>
>>173806908
You're going 2 points the wrong way and it will still swing even more to the wrong way in winter or summer. Better just go temp3.
>>
>>173806908
IMHO no.
going from temp2 to 3 is almost free points. going from temp2 to 0 is double the points, but a more than double price.
if your nation has temperature 2 native scales it means it's better off with that than anyone who is going to invade you.
cold3 and heat 3 can be quite protective against certain invasions.

There is a game I'm interested in looking for more players. It's on the Clockwork Hounds Discord group, and it's run via their server (IE; not Llamaserver; you finish your turn and it sends via IP address to a server, and each turn you download from the server). All the mods are provided by the server.
You can join by clicking this discord link; https://discord.gg/q4SFeme, then PMing @Mokou to join the Cancer Game channel, at which point you can post in that channel.
Here are the details; I've bolded some of the crazier stuff. This is sort of a thematically bizarre game.
Map:
Oeridia (adventure version) --- 1225 provinces, or roughly 60/player if we get the 20 people the game is attempting.
Settings:
Middle Age
Independents Strength: 9
Sites Frequency: 75
Events Frequence: Common
Story Events: Enabled
Hall of Fame Entries: 15
Score Graphs: Off
Research: Hard
Banned: Ermor
Diplomacy: Pacts binding, 3 lies permitted.
(You can publicly declare a pact to be nullified up to three times. Otherwise, all pacts are binding, including trade.)
Turns: 48h
Victory Condition:
50 throne points required.
20 level 1 thrones.
10 level 2 thrones.
5 level 3 thrones.
Alternate conditions:
Conquer everyone.
Agreement by all surviving players.
Mods:
Magic Enhanced - 1.4.1 ---> Adds substantially to magic; downloads with a PDF that lists all changes.
More Gems - 1.02 ---> Just adds +1 to all gem sites, +2 to all thrones
Lucid's Thematic Gem Gen - 1.02 ---> Adds more "temp gem" items. Usually following the scale of 5 gems = 1/combat, 10 gems = 2combat, 15 gems = 3 /combat.
Weapons of Mass Destruction - 0.04 ---> Makes Con 8 Artifacts more valuable
Worthy Heroes - Most recent ---> Adds a long list of heroes.
Mu.'s Throne Mod - 1.02 ---> Produces insane thrones.

Special Note: High Commitment
By signing up for this game, you are pledging to either stick around for it and keep playing for however many months or years it takes, or to find a substitute should interest wane. You shall not stale, you shall not walk off without saying a word.
Extensions will be granted if needed, so if something comes up, ask for one.
Special Note: Fun
As might be inferred by the format, this game is intended to last for a while, and generally be fun, excepting all the micromanagement. Fun enough, at least, that people will keep playing.
Wrecking the world by wishing for armageddon, or other such effects, damage that sense of fun for everyone and make it more likely that the game will be closed due to half the players leaving. As such, I request that some moderation be shown in this regard. Thank you.

Fear and awe combo well together, however mindless units can ignore both. A Vine Shield is a good general defence but not so great against high MR units. Fear 18 is probably the weakest option as it isn't that much stronger than Fear 13 and doesn't provide any defence against attacks.

nah. it takes few extra turns for your armies to reach the right critical mass but once they do they can take 9 strength indies over and over again.
>>
>>173871438
yeah, except a few extra turns is a few extra 48 hour cycles in that game and youre going to be fighting nothing but indies for months of real life time. and 9 indy strength can wear down some factions, like bandar log and bakemono
>>
Ulm can you come to the steam chat?
>>
All he said about armageddon is to show some moderation. It's implied that you shouldn't do it just to ruin fun

However, a gem based nation benefits more from Armageddon than a blood nation. It is a perfectly viable strategy for wholesome, non-demonic nations to cause a genocide. Similarly, Asphodel for instance will want to put up Burden of Time because they are hurt the least by it. It's all perfectly respectable
>>
>>173871747
shin should be fine
>>
>>173879530
the main point is all it really accomplishes is punishing weaker nations and less skilled players by slowing their expansion. even if just by a bit.

>>173876986
you should never trust a fucking discordfag meme game to have any reasonable rules.
>>
So who should have the best expansion?
Sceleria, Jotun, Ermor, and asspoodle all should expand with ease, but things like BL and Ashdod might do well depending on their bless.

Most LA nations are around the same power level. Ragha is higher in the early game, but falls off later, while R'lyeh is shit all the way through. Lemuria is weaker than other popkill nations, but is more fun imo. Even Jomon can do well if there's no Atlantis, while Atlantis is the undisputed king of UW and can perform adequately on land. If you're playing Summod, Pythium is aight, but if you're not they're shite. Same for Man, though Man can at least do things if they're lucky unlike Pythium

Ragha most certainly does not 'fall off' lategame - more like fall into the middle of the pack, but they don't become *bad*

Xibalba dominates the lategame of LA if they aren't jumped on though. Their biggest weakness in LA that stops them from being as good as EA Xib is lack of abundant F/B path to jag summon, giving them an extended period of vulnerability (basically from when SoG bats and HoS stops being battle winners until the get some F/B Onaqui summoned).
>>
>>173901849
This isn't true. It isn't full efficiency, but if there's 100 corpses in a province you'll generally get at least 2 death gems per air gem spent. Does cost a mage turn though, and I'd never use it unless you either really needed those D gems or had an absurd amount of A gems.

Blood hunting is affected by site frequency a bit.

Apart from that, the manual seems about right.

>>173906063
Much better than wolves.

Wolves have lower hp density than humans, while lions are higher. With wolves the most you can do is throw them out ahead of your army as chaff to tire out enemy mages, but lions should still pull spells away from your troops when both are a similar distance from the enemy mages.

Lions don't have high enough hp density to pull spells away when further back than your human troops, unfortunately.

>>173906537
Vine men cost gems, war lions do not.
>>
>>173906063

war lions are 40 hp per square vs Wolf 24 hp per square. MR is the same. Lions have a higher morale (12 vs 13) but cost upkeep and gold.

Vine Men have 51 hp per square, do not cost upkeep/gold and do not route. Vine Ogres give you 55 hp per square and also do not cost upkeep/gold and their morale is 50. Every nation wants gold, and nature gems are pretty cheap.

Further, Machaka gets 2n+ mages pretty easy. You're far better off getting Vine Men, or even Vine Ogres, for evocation catchers than you are War Lions. If you have a surplus of gold and are facing a weird early war with Magic3 Abysia, maybe war lions would be useful as fireball catchers. Realistically though, use vine ogres.

How many B1 mages with sticks do you hunt with in a province and how many wolves do you patrol in that province?
>>
>>173952432
4-8, and I generally do 10 patrollers / hunter
>>
>>173952432
At least 8, more if I'm lacking in provinces to hunt.

I haven't ever kept count, I just add a bunch and keep adding more if the unrest doesn't stabilize.
>>
Also, do you use cheap scouts to ferry your virgins or are you lazy and just blow 500 gold on a lab so you don't have to micro
>>
>>173952939
Scouts, spending 500 gold on a province you'll abandon soon is a waste.
>>
>>173952432
4 B1 with rods. That's like having eight B2 mages, which is kinda fine.
I usually use 10 wolves per blood level (so 80 for those 4 mages) but I think I tend to overkill in patrolling. I've been testing and three or four B1 mages with rods can keep the unrest low with 55 wolves in a commander with a star of experience, so that way i dont need two commanders.

Maybe more than 4 blood hunters if I'm starving in slaves or I'll have a big battle soon, 8 blood hunters instead of 4 in a province and 4 in other one doesn't sound fine to me.
>>
>>173952939
scouts. but hopefully some of the bloodhunting provinces will be forted+lab or have a lab for recruiting indies, so the pathing of the scouts won't be horribly long.

yes if it had the ability to host the blitzes and processes the turns fast enough to call them blitzes.

please note that feature parity with llamaserver implies having a webpage where i can see game status before joining it.

i like play by email a lot because the little time i spend receiving and sending emails it's also used to copy the savefiles into an history so i could revisit the old turns. On direct connect it would take longer to open the savefile directory.

Against equal gold of troops they get outnumbered a lot and then die.

290 gold 100% to get EFSD and then 10% to get EFSD again. I hadnt planned on getting any for a while anyway though since I have other things I want right now. They are also priests.
>>
>>173973925
Yeah, stick with S1E1 as much as you can.

Those are way too pricey to have more than a few (mainly for casting big spells or rituals).
>>
The thing about E1S1 is that it's incredibly versatile. Yes, you can communion up GfH, and like Bogarus's T-strike communions, it's amazing in army v army combat once both sides field forces of sufficient size. It'll smash through just about anything, regardless of how elite the enemy is.

However, that's only one application. You can still just use them as S mages (cascades and soul slay spam), you can use them as buff/debuff mages with all the great E magic that they can scale up to cast (LegoS, SoG, MW, WoS, and then also Destruction, Meld, and Maws on the enemy), you can also use them for elemental spam if you're lacking on front line, and you can even make a more bottom-heavy communion to spam earthquake.

What all of this means is that you can swap between different battle tactics with the same mages, which lets you both answer enemy tactics on the go and makes your armies very difficult to prepare against, because what works for one won't work against another.

In vanilla dominions, the weakness to this strategy is a vulnerability to battlefield clear on all of the nations that can field it, since they use squishy humans for it and moving around stacks of 8+ mages makes it worth deploying. However your mages are far hardier for a very reasonable price increase, meaning that people can't just RoS/equake trap your casters away.

Add onto that the versatility added with recruitable thugs, DIRT cheap archers, and hardy sacreds that will carve right through magic beings (elementals are one of the better early-midgame power spikes) and you have a nation that's going to be very hard to take on solo.
>>
>>173974539
For the record, though, I don't think that your nation is grossly OP or anything - it's just very strong and versatile even with just your primary paths, and with your efficient troops, it will require people to gang up on it to beat.
>>
>>173974539
>and you have a nation that's going to be very hard to take on solo
Theoretically. In practice I'm pretty shit and didn't even think of half that stuff. I even forgot about summon earthpower for a bit.
>>
>>173974804
seriously, you can stop trying to diplo, it's fine
>>
>>173974804
too bad? You're the strongest nation, and if people let you live you only get stronger over time.
>>
>>173974539
Communions are amazing, but do remember they're quite limited in scope if you want to use them right.

If you want to go beyond 12 or so people casting (and even that's pushing it), you're going to need mages who can cast outside a communion or to be okay with quickly burning out every single communion slave you used quickly.

E1S1 can spam cascades while not in a communion, but they're a lot less versatile in large fights.

E/S communions are amazing on a small-medium scale, though. An 8 master 4 slave communion can put out 8 casts of gifts per turn for basically the whole fight if you do some tricks to manage fatigue properly, which is an extraordinary amount of firepower for 12 cheap mages.

>However your mages are far hardier for a very reasonable price increase, meaning that people can't just RoS/equake trap your casters away.
Also, this is an underrated attribute. What I wouldn't give for tanky cheap mages on every faction.

>E/S communions are amazing on a small-medium scale, though. An 8 master 4 slave communion can put out 8 casts of gifts per turn for basically the whole fight if you do some tricks to manage fatigue properly, which is an extraordinary amount of firepower for 12 cheap mages.
12 mages is a pretty good number. Giant mage blobs shouldn't be a go-to for anyone, honestly, and these guys can easily punch above their weight using both GfH and other scripts.

If you really do need to deathball for whatever reason and already asked yourself what the battlefield-wide answer is to the enemy and didn't find one, then you do need to kill your com slaves, yes, but you'll get a TON of mojo out in the process.
>>
>>173975878
uh, Phuidh has acid bolt into acid rain into acid storm and literally nothing else except some decent Fomorian sacreds
Pheaha has Vanadrotts on steroids that can change into cave crabs as well as storm power 4 sacreds
Caolbasagh are Fomorians, that much I remember, but nothing else
Lumbuor has 40g S1s and 6 resource axe throwers, so they're going to be using Marverni tactics probably
Gaeni has a cap only str that has 1 in every elemental path and B2, so they're going to be sabbathing it up, I think. They're also birds
Vancirony I remember being the Foulspawn nation that was "literally why would you pick this: the nation". Beyond that I don't even remember their paths
Mexco has really good sacreds and has access to Xibalba summons and pretenders, so they might actually be good.
>>
>>173952432

One province, one hunter. Walk them back to your lab when they are full or just build a lab there to pick up slaves automatically.
>>
>>173976840
Why would you say this? I thought that meme about intentional bad advice wasn't a thing.
>>
>>173976121
In late midgame onwards you're absolutely right, but I've found earlier than that it raiding is harder and who can do better in a straight fight is often more important. Obviously if your or your enemy is elves or bats or birds, disregard this.

>then you do need to kill your com slaves, yes, but you'll get a TON of mojo out in the process.
Say you put 50 GfH casters on 8 communion slaves. The communion slaves will be dead in 4 turns and you'll have cast gifts probably about 170 times. That's impressive firepower, but then your mages are no longer in a communion.

By comparison, a 12 master/8 slave communion will have done 120 casts (well over half of what you get by burning out your communion) by turn 10, and they can keep going (plus, no dead mages).

Sustainable is the way to go, I think. If you can't use the other mages in a fight without a communion, just don't bring them. Burning out a communion is only valuable if you need extremely front-loaded firepower.
>>
>>173977137
If deleting 510 squares of bad guys isn't enough, you have issues.

Firepower sooner is often better than firepower later, and I'd gladly sac 8 com slaves for A HUNDRED SEVENTY rock drops.
>>

why waste money on the upkeep for essentially useless mules?
>>
>>173969091

>Carpenter of the Insides

What?
>>
>>173977298
It's only 510 squares if nothing misses. In practice, I'd expect much less.

Still, I've never actually tried dropping hundreds of rocks on an army, only less powerful evocations. You may be right about immediate firepower in this case. I could easily see that many casts shattering an army so badly no further mage support is needed.
>>
>>173977053

That's how I've always played blood nations. I hadn't even thought to use more than one hunter per province because of the unrest.

covers the gist of things, but to give more detail -

Phuidh is fomoria with acid instead of lightning. No morrigans either, but acid storm is cool I guess. Not a lot to say about these guys, though.

Caolbasagh has great SCs with death recruit 50 (150g rebate with death 3) and 9 attack/square berserker sacreds with E2X1 mages to buff them. Expect death scales and a giant bless for a strong early game, then self-buff research for midgame. Great snowball nation, and a very scary neighbor if you don't have early magic or tough guys of your own.

Pheaha is an elf/hoburg nation with flyers, rec anywhere A2 and cap rec up to A4 (with the cap guys. Expect normal elf stuff when fighting these guys (elementals, t-strike, tons of raiding). They can thug about as well or better than vanilla elves because they have great forging paths, a good chassis, and their cap guys turn into turbotanks, but they also lack cheap researchers. The flying hoburgs have surprisingly decent damage, but they're glass. Sacreds are mediocre without a storm, but supergood with it.

Lumbuour is, yeah, probably gonna do S1 stuff. Their non-sacred cavalry looks okay, and they have S3X1 up to S4 out of their cap, so they can mind hunt as well. Their S2 out of cap makes LotNS really easy to cast too, and when they need bigger guys they can teleport in when needed. The F random guys can astral fires too, which is cool I guess. Not super impressed with them, since they're like Marverni with 5g archers instead of its boars. I guess they can flaming arrows with 5g archers for THE STORM.

Gaeni has one awesome cap only blood mage and is otherwise just worse MA caelum with their big A mages being cap only (and competing with the blood guys) and their A2s being more expensive. If they can leverage their blood, though, then they'll be able to supplement their armies with storm demons which is something that all the other caelums wish they could do, and they can also use those guys to RoS and stuff
>>
>>173976425
Vancirony is the foulspawn nation, and is so far the only nation with out of cap blood. Their foulspawn are a bit RNG dependent, since you don't know what you'll get. Within the same unit type, you'll get a heavy armor and magic, AP lifesteal attack guy, multi attack dudes, and trash. Their big mages aren't cap only, which is nice, but they're relatively expensive. N3X1 + either A1 or B1. Some will RoS, others will often be hard to use efficiently for stuff other than N buffs.

Mexco has no recruitable blood mages, but they have 'puchis so once they get some blood, they can get a lot more quickly, and of course spam out the assassination which is a massive pain to deal with. Pretty solid D2 mages out of cap (which are even thuggable in a pinch, if skellyspam, nether darts, and shadowblast won't cut it) and bigger D/E mages in cap for buffs, earthquakes, and rigor mortis. Probably the best scaling nation in spite of the fact that they need to summon up their bloodhunters to snowball, since once they do they can grow their blood economy quickly and eventually do the full Mictlan demon armies with onaquis and ozelittles.

It is MUCH easier to manage 3-4 blood hunters in one province - just keep throwing cheap chaff to patrol. In my opinion it is also more raid and assasin-proof.

Keep two scouts and shuffle them between lab and BH province.

Making a pretender for Bandar Log and this might be the first time I've ever considered a rainbow but I really really like this one.

>W9 for tiger rider blenders and gandharva + 7 defense with celestial music
>B6 to add to the tiger riders killiness and to have high blood super easy
> E4 for reinvig and blood stones and EBDW if my yaksha rolls are shit
>A2 for easy dakinis and trapeezing.

So I'm a fan of this guy but am questioning:
1.) the E4, it's kinda unnecessary but with dom 6 sloth 2 doesn't matter for expansion and I don't want to turn down free points. Open for suggestions on the minor bless, or if just getting a few x2's for classic rainbow booster forging/site searching. Just a huge fan on all my mages having reinvig and my tiger riders too with the fatigue they can get from 6 attacks a turn.

2.) So I went with blood 6 instead of blood 9 because I wasn't sure if the major bless was worth the points. There's not a huge difference in the blood hunting between B6 and B9 and the strength boost is only decreased by 1 and it opens up a lot of points. Though having my mage blobs have blood vengence is a fun deterrent for battlefield clears, not sure it was worth it.

3.)The fucking chasis. I hate how tiny and squishy this guy is. and the fact that he isn't even immortal means no suicide battlefield clears. But I'll have strong chassis's available from astral and blood once I transition to late midgame so I don't think I'll be in too much trouble early on with my tiger riders.

4.) the sloth. I think it'll be fine if my start has a reasonable amount of connections, I'm just not sure what I would want monkey troop wise.

Any opinions would be welcome, not familiar with this nation but it's combo of Lanka and Kailasa is super appealing to me.
>>
>>173986348
Seems okay to me. Not a huge fan of the cold, but you're buying a ton of magic for your bless and so, which makes getting good scales expensive

I've always been of the opinion that a cold malus is basically free growth unless your troops are affected by it i.e. Abysia,NifelGiants, cold blooded. I mean you'll take an income drop but the growth will make up for it and the supplies still end up being positive.
>>
>>173987487

Why cold instead of hot?
>>
>>173987225
That actually is pretty cool I didn't consider taking him dormant because I figured I wouldn't include blood in my research goals till later, but it would be nice to have him awake to get the blood pumping early even if I'm not on dakinis yet he could do some other summons if I get pressed. Or of course site search. Still gives me Ebdw on 1/4 yakshas. The magic 2 has me a little meh, but that's not a deal breaker. Will give him a SP or blitz spin to see if him popping out provides enough value to ditch the e4 and magic 2.

dom 5.

Consider Sloth 3 for either neutral order or magic 1. Also would probably recommend O3Mis1 instead. You get 10 points left over that you can put into any magic path, nature wouldn't be a bad idea, if only to raise max age.

Gets you high water, all the blood boosters, all the air boosters, all the earth boosters, staves of elemental mastery and archmage robes.

The bless is a pretty okay mage bless and a pretty good troop bless.
>>
>>173991181
I choose to interpret it my way.
>>
>>173992668
Ohh I didn't think about the magi robe to get me to blood 8. Hell that'll get me to rings with an S4 Rishi. And now that I think about it the additional point of strength blood 6 gives may not be worth the points even though I like how crazy the extra damage gets with strenght of giants. B4 still has 100% success rate for blood hunting. Also the only time I'll be using the super high blood summons will be when I'm in a position to make robe and all the boosters.

I'm kinda meh on the A4 bless but between the staves and the air helmets for dakini to cast fog warriors with just a 4 yogi communion it is very tempting.

Let's use the term in a very restrictive sense. Magic = magic rituals and battle spells. Ignore item forging, blessings and dominion effects.
It still looks impossible to win without magic against human players that aren't playing for the first time.
>>
>>174009652
You can easily win against the AI without using any of the restricted magic.
Unbeatable SC, unkillable sacreds, freespawn nations, nations with reanimation.

assuming similar skill levels and a uniform terrain I think Xibalba could probably win a smallish game, or any large game they aren't ganged up on, since they could easily create shitloads of N9B9 beastbats, ozzies, thugs, and assassins

Ermor also tends to win games with little to no battlemagic; relying mostly on Lictors and overwhelming skellington force.

More importantly, why would you want to? For the same price you can get 3 niefel giants and a priest commander - which should be enough to expand with E9N9.
>>
>>174014793
I dont know man, niefel jarls are pretty top tier for thugging and shit. Liquid body would let one handle most things no problem with E9N9.
>>
What are some good ways in fighting massed B9 beast bats? Xibalba obviously/.
>>
>>174015812
depends on what your nation has
>>
>>174015390
They're pretty good, but a lot of that comes from buffs. Without them you'd be relying heavily on armor+hp+regen to tank through. While niefel jarls have excellent stats for those, taking 20+ attacks per turn (especially with DRN rolls and afflictions) can really be a problem.

Additionally,
>expansion
>using alteration 4
Pick one.

>>174015812
>>174015982
Also depends what xibalba is doing with the beast bats.

Is he throwing them into armies on their own? Buffing them up? Using them as chaff to weaken your army before ozelotl sweep in? Something else?
>>
>>174014793
>More importantly, why would you want to? For the same price you can get 3 niefel giants and a priest commander - which should be enough to expand with E9N9.
Theorycrafting, mostly. If I get a gold surplus and can queue a jarl and use an indy priest to lead giants, I can maybe get more expansion out. Also having a higher jarl count would be cool, since they're my only cap only and I want to use them as SCs later

I went back to my parents' for Easter holidays, but then they decided they wanted to do a spontaneous family trip to the middle of nowhere, so I'm going to be in a place where I won't have a computer and will have to walk 10 minutes to get any internet conexion in my phone.
I'm out until Tuesday afternoon, so I'm afraid I'm going to extend those two games for 72 hours.

Yes, I'm sorry. But more than me being sorry for you, you should be sorry for me.

Rip.

See you next tuesday.

I'm also in the Clash, TheLaundryFiles and House_of_horrors.I'll need extensions in those too, but they aren't domg games, I'll try to tell them in discord.

>>
>>174060059
Lemuria absolutely should build forts on every province they can, otherwise you just get soulless. Lemuria should take always take an average dominion strength and having some money making scales isnt an awful idea since they're so gold starved. It wouldn't work at all with summod since then you have to push your dominion as hard as possible and kill the population as fast as possible but that's an awful change and you should avoid lemuria with summod

Elves do cheap sneaky thugs the best. They don't have forge bonus, but EA and MA Vanheim have cap-only mages with master smith, which lets them forge more difficult items.

EA Ulm has warrior smiths, which have a forge bonus and an interesting variety of paths. They don't have stealthy thugs, but they have stealthy mages and good stealthy troops which you can raid with.

LA Pythium isn't bad, just slow to really get going. Making the most of your diversity of paths is key. It's a nation that can cast grip of winter, rigor mortis, and heat from hell + spam stellar cascades and that's fucking hilarious.
>>
>>174127564
How would they capitalize on that?

They don't really have any undead, demons, or semi-decent death mages.

The ISSUE with pythium is that even their good mages are unreliable. They're like Jomon without the dragons.

Jomon's mages are unreliable, but even if you don't get exactly what you wanted they're usually at least decent paths.

LA Pythium's mages tend to be 50% useless.
>>
>>174133284
Yeah, it's not a perfect analog. Jomon's also has for SURE reliable StR mages (but you can't really spare the turns to get them until later in the game, since you need to be ahead in RP to be even with better nations), but Pythium has foreign rec troops and lots of shields.I was using Jomon as an example, because if they didn't have their sea stuff they'd be really sad and vanilla Pythium is like that but worse.

I had it quite effectively used against me once by someone who just brought mages with a few troops guarding each.

It seemed to tend towards going for the more numerous army, and the troops guarding each mage tended to delay any which stuck around long enough for a quick D2D.

You probably would need to do some testing and figure out how they choose targets.

>>174145772
If going from luck 0 to misfortune 3 is literally the only thing you need to do for that bless, almost certainly yes.

Blesses aren't that cheap though, and if you're planning to put 6+ points in a path without getting a bless you might be doing something dumb.

What nation are you playing, and what's your current pretender plan (without this extra bless you want).

Remove the E4. It's costing you more than 3 scales alone.

I don't think you need that much dominion, drop it by a couple of points.

That should leave you with enough points to at least go up to luck 0, magic 1.

If your expansion can bear it, take more sloth in return for magic scales as well.

>>174148028
Though I actually notice that a dom6 N9B9 can be done by the Raksharani chassis with the same number of scales.

That way you get additional N9/D1 crosspath (good for a few spells), and movement.

Can I get some beginners tips for this game?

How do I build my pretender?
Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot?
What magic should I research?
Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap?
>inb4 "it depends"
>>
>>174173354
>How do I build my pretender?
Highly dependant on your nation and choice of strategy

>Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot?
Depends on how you intend to use them; they gather money from all provinces around them, so it's very useful to put some at regular intervals; you can also use them to defend a choke point or a province that's important for other reasons (ie: throne); finally, some nations can unlock special units from forts located on specific provinces (example: Therodos with coastal forts, Jomon with underwater forts...)

>What magic should I research?
Obviously depends on what you can do (and therefore, on your magic paths) and on what you want to do
Construction is usually a good choice though since it lets you build magic path boosters, but alone it's not enough

>Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap?
Some spells are definitely crap, but most of them are just situational, not crap.
>>
>>174173354
Your first tip is that when asking for advice, specify the nation you plan on playing. "General advice" will not help you most of the time, because every nation does and wants different things.
>>
>>174173354
>How do I build my pretender?
Depends on your nation and overall strategy. Your pretender will change how you play your nation, because they are such a versatile thing. But generally you should build a pretender that buffs your strengths rather than shoring up your flaws. Nations that have good sacreds should take at least one x9 magic path, while nations that have good rec anywhere mages and troops should take full scales. The only situation where I would take a pretender that fixes my flaws would be if my nation expands poorly, in which case I would take an awake monster. For noobs, an awake earth snake with E6 and good scales will generally be a good choice, though it is very very boring.
>Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot?
On high income provinces, thrones and good magic sites. You only need to worry about resources in your capital, really, since once you have two or three forts you become gold capped rather than resource capped as all your gold goes to mages.
>What magic should I research?
Probably the most complex question in the game. Depends on your nation, but basically look at the spells your mages can cast, you figure the good ones out, you figure out the best spell that is the easiest to get and you beeline for that. For Ulm, they beeline for iron blizzard, while Pangea beelines for Mother Oak.
>Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap?
Most ritual magic is shite or highly situational, but battlefield magic is generally pretty useful, even if it is just "throw stones at the enemy and hope I hit one of them in the head". Also, always remember that gems are for combat and globals. There are very few rituals worth spending gems on.

A good nation to learn with is Agartha, any age. They always like scales, and MA likes N9E6, so use that as your starting point
>>
>>174173354
It depends.
>>
>>174173354
>inb4 "it depends"
But it very much does depend.

>How do I build my pretender?
It depends on what nation you want to do with that nation.
With that said it's generally bad to take too many magic paths and unless you know what you're doing it's b est to leave dominion between 7-9.

Many nations are good with a bless and N9 is generally a good bless.

Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot? At strategic places including thrones, at or near rich provinces, at least two provinces away from the nearest fort unless it's at a throne or a mountain pass or you're playing a weird nation.

What magic should I research?
You use what magic you nation has available to your best ability.

Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap? Much of it is situational.
Horde of skeletons will always be better than raise skeletons but you get raise skeletons at enchantment 3 and horde of skeletons at enchantment 5, so you can start using that spell earlier.

>>
>>174174824

>>
>>174174824
A4E4 for boosters and globals
And maximum scales.

Logarians are your cheapest heavy hitting mages and you want a ton for buffs as well as evos, but your witches are good for spamming Tstrike/Elementals, and for throwing up fog warriors
>>
oh god xibalba just went AI
just me and Bandar Log now
>>
>>174173354
>How do I build my pretender?
To supplement your strategy.
>Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot?
Generally with a province in between them, and on thrones, but it's also good to put them in chokepoints, on important sites, and anywhere else you really don't want to lose.
>What magic should I research?
The magic you planned for ahead of time, which will make you very difficult to counter, or the magic that will counter what you expect to be seeing on the battlefield soon.
>Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap?
The idea behind summod is it's all useful in someway, and the mod generally succeeds, but in vanilla there's a fair amount that's just crap, and even in summod a lot of it is pretty niche.
>>
>>174173354
>How do I build my pretender?
various degrees of empowering your nation strengths ( the scales that give you what you want, the bless your sacred need) and/or covering your weaknesses ( expansion acess to certain amgical paths).

>Where should I build castles and fortresses and whatnot?

where they won't get knocked down during construction. go the cheapest option that isn't palisade.
if your nation cares about resources far apart, otherwise it has zero relevance.Always fort the thrones.
place them in such a way you can react to the opponents trying to conquer a fort in due time OR that you can reinforce timely if you are the aggressor.

>What magic should I research?
the first spell you should research are the ones you intend to use for the first war(research levels 3-4-5), it depends on what your national mages are good at.Look at the highest path the mages you use for research have.
>Is all magic useful in some way or is most of it useless crap?

there is more useful magic than in any other game i've seen. Some spells are the best option and will get used 10 times more than others, but given the right nation, the right situation and a certain amount of research points 70% of the spells will be good, and there is a ton of them.
most spells get replaced by a better version after a certain research levels, especially when it comes to use gems to summon stuff.
>>
Reason why I can't filter spells both by ritual/battle + thier path:

So that I can filter for all the nature ritual or nature combat spells and whatnot.

Summon succubus's or use horde from hell to get demon commanders. As an actual blood nation you can afford to spend slaves. Alternatively you could summon ice devils until you got Bune and get him to summon mound kings.

>>
>>174210494
I would have joined if it was a OneAge game like it should have been.

But apparently the admin decided the map was more well adjusted for 20 players than 60-70. Domg already did a 20 player MA Oeridia after all, and it was an epic fail (basically everyone AI'd, no one ever actually was removed). 60-70 players would at least involve an absolutely amazing first 4-5 years or so, whereupon around somewhere in the turn 60-70 range, agreed upon before the game started, whoever had the highest thrones claimed should just be declared the winner instead of dragging the game out into a super boring endgame of stales and AIs.

Hey I need the summod A8 general picture
>>
Hey, would anyone be interested in playing this mod - http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/index.php?showtopic=2963

Basically, instead of recruiting stuff specifically, you recruit from categories of things (sacred, archers, weak/medium/strong mages, etc) and then you get a random recruitable from that category. EG when you recruit a strong mage, you can get anything from a lion king to a sauromancer to a high seraph
>>
>>174225573
That looks pretty crazy. Just to check, there's none of the usual cataclysm sites that allow you to recruit units, right?

I think I'd be willing to at least try one game with it.

If I can make one suggestion, though, it would be that you separate unit sacreds into greater and lesser varieties. Lesser would be currently non-cap sacreds (plus some of the weaker cap-only sacreds maybe) and come with a lower pricetag and no cap-only requirement. Greater would remain cap-only and more expensive, but stronger in general.
>>
>>174197870

Who needs studies when you've actually been bullied? People tried bullying me back in school but they all gave up eventually because they didnt get a rise out of me.
>>
>>174282949
>just ignore it!
Do you have easy access to any journals? I can link studies that show that ignoring bullying doesn't actually work. The only way to stop bullying in children is to get the parents to improve discipline, but often it's because the parents are too chickenshit to discipline their kids, or because they go too far and abuse the kids, or because they're completely uninvolved and expect the teachers to raise their kids for them. One of my m8's whole PHd thesis was on how parents are controlled by their children. Even me I was bullied, and my method of coping with it was to fight back, which also eventually resulted in the bullies backing off, but it's left me with anger management issues. Bullies have lasting effects on kids, that affect them long into adult life. Often, victims of bullying will, themselves, become bullies as a coping mechanism, which also results in problematic behaviour later on in life

Hell, bullies are the whole cocking reason the US has such a problem with mass shootings
>>

Dragons -40 pts (Eastern, Western, Azi, Dracolich, Carrion)

Not sure I agree with giving caelum a free scale
>>
>>174295913

Actually, this mod is basically everyone gets another scale if you're not running a monster. So it's just a monster nerf patch, except it buffs everything else instead. A handful of his nerfs make little sense, like Father of the Sea.

This kinda reminds me of his other balance mod, which is basically just changes one player feels like. Some of it's good, most of it's unnoticeable, some of it's bad. Feels really unresearched/tested, if that makes sense
>>
>>174295224
I think that any pretender balance mod has to focus first on making pretender selection among nations balanced; IE giving underwater nations more than 8 options.

other than that like most anons said, it doesn't seem super relevant since it's mostly just minor point adjustments
>>
>>174296089
Honestly how about just making the Erf Snek cost 40 more points, and then give everyone 40 more points to play with base?
