Is it normal for regular enemies to be challenging? I'm on Kaneshiro's dungeon right now and it seems like I can wipe before I even get a turn if I get ambushed. Barring that, I use up an absurd amount of healing items at the beginning of sections before I have a chance to figure out enemy weaknesses; it's gotten so I've started doing "dry runs" just to check enemy configurations and weaknesses before scumming back and redoing it so I don't waste so many items. Yes, this is a SMT game, not some pussy "press X to win" JRPG.

Learn the mechanics and git gud and enjoy the best JRPG battle system around or if you just want to play for the story and Confidants play Safety or Easy mode.

In general, if you just go into a random battle mashing x and not exploiting weaknesses, using buffs/debuffs, or switching to different Persona's defensively, you're going to get rekt. This is true of all of the Persona games.

Hands down, they are more accessible than P3, which is still a great game though.

Meh, I played P4 and I don't remember it being that bad. Also, it's not that different from other JRPGs in that buffs/debuffs are mostly useless on bosses and have a piss-poor cost/utility ratio in regular battles.

Though aside from a money exploit that I hear involves confusion, I don't think they're too useful on their own. If anything they're just nice if you happen to use something that may cause a status. For instance Black Frost was what I used at the endgame and Mabufudyne has a chance of Freeze. If it froze something then great, Makoto can hit harder with her Nuke skills. And if not... oh well.

I've been looking for a basic guide for P5 that basically tells you what activities and social links are available each day of the year. I don't want to look at walkthroughs, but want to know what's upcoming so I can plan accordingly. Is there anything similar? Even just a lst of what stuff is available each day of the week or activities that give bonuses on certain days would help.

Mainly for situations like, "If I don't hang out with this SL today, will they be available tomorrow." Or "Shop X sells item Y only on this day"

You can either take advantage of that by doing more damage, or killing them in one shot.

They have a niche, they always had a niche, introducing spells that deal damage doesn't overshadow that niche since insta-killing > any amount of extra damage up until their death.

This is more you realizing they were pretty "useless" to begin with because that niche is small, and that general spells fill a wider gap of versatility.
