As far as I can tell, it looks like if there was any actual reason behind the delay, it must've been to manufacture enough copies and not to fix anything about the localization, because every issue present in the November livestream is still there.

Overall, it seems like they were forced to rush out the localization - the bulk of the actual errors are the type that's prevalent in rushjobs (missing details in a sentence, failing to make sure lines or phrases that are connected or show up multiple times stay consistent, messing up some of the trickier lines like Yusuke's poem during his awakening which just got a literal, wonky translation instead), and the stilted and sometimes grammatically off phrasing that plagues most of the script points strongly toward not taking enough time to edit and polish the initial translation.

It's not outright indecipherable as some have been claiming (and Burch's opinion in particular should probably be disregarded, considering his writing suffers from the opposite problem aka being punched up way too much), but it's definitely a flawed localization that desperately needed more time to polish it.

No, they're not. Caroline and Justine speak pretty much normally in the Japanese version. Even Igor's speech is mostly normal in this game, outside of lapsing into somewhat more archaic or flowery phrasing for certain lines. This isn't another case of the Velvet Room people intentionally sounding strange like Elizabeth did in Persona 3.

The first line in that image is fine, though I'd argue that the phrasing is awfully clunky (though that seems like it may in part be on the text box limiting the translation team). The second line, however, is outright grammatically incorrect and should not have made it into the finalized script in that state, and that has nothing to do with the fact the speaker is a member of the Velvet Room.

So /pg/ mind giving me a few tips?
First time playing P5 and fighting Madarame on hard and he's absolutely destroying me. Party is level 18.
Only two i have that can deal aoe damage is Akira and Ryuji, but i need Akira to heal as he's the only one with Media and Diarama, Ann only has Dia which is useless seeing as everything the boss throws at me deals 120dmg + (80 with resist or defense up) and everyone has 180-220 hp. I have no Ma-buffs, only singular heals plus the boss keeps going for weakness.

Been butting my head to the controller so far, I can't seem to deal with his second form, that stupid form as I have to constantly be on the defensive and heal.

Do I need to grind more? Would be problematic as I'm on my last day.

The problem with this localization isn't that the dialogue is "pretty much impossible to understand unless you're an english major." The problem is that it's a stilted, often overly literal translation that reads like it was most likely the initial translation draft with little to no editing done to make it sound natural in the target language. I figured something out, these dungeons fucking suck. Im having 10 times more fun when i don't have a dungeon to do, even if im doing tartar sauce.

They drag on, there's usually stupid roadblocks like unlocking madarames door and other shit that force you to stop doing the dungeon for 30 minutes to see wacky hijinks or whatever and then you leave the calling card which wastes a day and then the next day is wasted even though you just teleported to the boss fight and fought for 30 minutes.

The sneaking system is dumb and pointless and on multiple occasions ive killed a shadow and had a new shadow respawn right infront of me, in alert mode, right after coming out of a battle.

I prefer tartar sauce to this and even P4 dungeons because you could bang them out in a 30 minute grind without stoping for dialog every room.

THIS is my main complaint with this game.

As I said, there are actual concerns with the localization. Between stilted and often overly literal phrasing, inconsistent translation of certain terms, missing connections between specific lines/scenes and thus translating them inconsistently, missing parts of sentences in some scenes, and some translations that are just plain wrong, there's plenty to genuinely criticize.

But calling the dialogue "gibberish," "indecipherable," or other things like that IS hyperbole - if it really was that bad, and not just clunky, you'd see far, far more people calling it out. If you want to draw attention to the localization's quality issues, pushing that kind of hyperbole is going to make people take you less and less seriously.

I know the basic enemies aren't representative of anything: that's the problem. They should be. Atlus fails at literally the most basic elements of game design. The game gives absolutely no indication of whether or not you are underlevelled for a fight or an area. The best part is Hifumi being a party member, assuming her dungeon boss was her mother and wasn't changed, would give us an actual arc target that wasn't a murderer or rapist we're reforming to get them to send themselves to jail but someone that would actually be sympathetic and repair their relationship with.

He's right that some things can't be kept if translated word for word, either because they're impossible to translate, too long, would make no sense in English, or because nobody would speak like that in English. Same with text/time limits being a problem for some lines, and there's definitely been a few lines that seemed like they were affected by length issues.

I don't agree that they did a good job with that. Even only counting the scenes I've been comparing for you guys, there's more than a few instances where they left out important key parts of sentences, terms that are translated inconsistently (sometimes correctly, other times in a completely wrong way; the 暴走-related terms are a huge offender for this, as they start off correct in the earlygame and then start getting translated wrong when you get the actual explanation for them), lines related to a different scene (or even a line in the same scene!) that aren't consistent with one another, a few mistranslated words, a small number of lines that were translated wrong (one good example being "オマエ…ジョーカーの事、気に入ってんだろ。" becoming "And... you don't really hate Joker, do you?" instead of something that keeps the original meaning properly like "You... care about Joker, don't you?" in the scene after te first Goro boss fight) and even some sentences where they added extra text (that sometimes even contradicts something mentioned in the same scene).

Most of these errors are the kind that come two things: rushing the initial translation (and missing things as a result), and not taking the time to properly edit the initial translation (to catch those kinds of errors and make sure everything sounds good). A localization displaying those problems is not "authentic," it's a rushjob that needed more time to properly polish it.
