Guts couldn't bear being just a tool in Griffith's plan to obtain his dream. Guts doesn't come back right after for no reason. After Griffith is imprisoned, Midland tries to kill the Band of the Hawk. Then we get a timeskip, where Guts meets the surviving members of the Band of the Hawk again by chance, and they tell him about Griffith so they go to rescue him.

He was initially forced to work for them, but in the end he just enjoyed fighting with no care in the world. When the Hawks were knighted and the war was over, there was no reason for him to stay. He was yet to find his own calling anyway.

What is the best faith build? Is 40/40 str fth good?

Miracles are arguably the weakest, possibly second-weakest school of casting in DaS2. It was pretty broken on launch, but now you'll have shit for number of casts for any type of Lightning Spear, so the only things you can rely on in the early game are healing and status recovery miracles (also Homeward can save you some souls since you won't have to buy Homeward Bones, if you care about SM). It gets better once you get Sunlight Blade though.

Pyromancy is pretty ubiquitous since you can soft-cap it just by going any of the other three schools (it requires a total of 60 between Int and Faith). The weapons tend to be more Faith-oriented in terms of wielding requirements (mainly the Black Knight weapons, and even then you'll need only about 12-15). Problem is that I'm pretty sure most things resist fire, and you'll have a shitty time in the Old Iron King DLC. Pyromancies are also quite short-ranged, so you definitely need a melee fallback.

Hexes are arguably the strongest, since very few things resist it. You gain access to utility spells of all casting schools as well since you need to level Faith and Int equally, but you won't be as strong as one who focuses into either school (spell bonus from 30 to 40 goes up massively, while Hexes cap at 30 of both). Again, you might have trouble in the DLCs, especially Old Iron King's boss.

Any good pve big weapons that I can bleed monsters to death with? I don't want daggers/ss/katanas/scythes but I feel like nothing else is good for bleeding.

the best faith builds go past 50 faith at least, usually up to 60. a lot of people are doing crucifix of the mad king builds with dark weapon, minimum required STR with 60 faith. Raw Dragonslayer Axe is another mainstay, with lightning blade. run lightning stake and lightning arrow, and maybe a heal or some other useful support spell.

Everything in the game will stunlock you for 2 hits. After 2 hits, you can roll out of the attacks. Hyper armor however exists and that's basically "poise" when attacking. Usually applied when swinging large weapons. It's what gives slower swinging weapons a way to actually hit people, so they can sort of rely on trading hits once in a while.

I've talked a lot of shit about DS3 in the past. I don't like much about it. It will always remain, to me, a disappointing conclusion to a pretty great series.

But I just fought Midir for the first time tonight, and beat him after maybe my sixth try. Used 14 Estus because, I admit it, I'm not really good. Be that as it may, Midir may have redeemed the game as a whole for me. He was a well-designed boss fight, with proper tells and openings, and I never once felt like putting the game down. Gael, for example, struck me as so derivative, so unoriginal, that I just said, "Fuck it" and bought NieR to wash the taste away.

But Midir? Midir might not only be the best fucking boss in the game, but certainly one of the best in the entire series, and definitely the greatest dragon section in all of the From games. I couldn't tell you why I find him less egregious than Gael, given that he is a dragon and therefore derivative in the same way, but I know a good boss when I fight one.

Midir is fucking awesome.

Hex builds are complete meme tier because there are barely any offensive hexes with all of them being sorceries unless you count the 'dark' pyros. Sunless Talisman isn't worth it since Lifehunt Scythe and Gnaw are the only dark hexes and both are shit in PvP. Murky Hand Scythe meanwhile is a pure INT staff for hexes but does less damage than Court Staff at 60 INT with hexes unless it has its short WA chant active.

I have no fucking clue why they did this but from split hexes into dark miracles and dark sorceries which sounds similar on the surface but which require you to carry 2 sets of gear to use your magic to the fullest, and this often includes ring swapping.

Meanwhile pyro requires the same investments for better results (chaos basketball + dark fire orb) but with only one (weightless) catalyst and only one set of rings and a fancy new sword.
