It's not just one line that's a problem (there's a few other problems, a couple of which I mentioned here >>173206267), but calling the entire set of scenes "butchered" is too extreme too. Overall the scenes are intact, but there's some issues once you get into the finer details (with that one line being one of the more glaring examples, but not the only one).

I'm still working on finishing the comparison, but hopefully it'll be good to go sooner rather than later.

I'd say it's pushing it. And like I said in the other thread, the way it's worded in the localization doesn't feel like it should be setting Goro off the way it does. Being called out on simply not hating someone doesn't really have the same impact as being called out on being fond of someone despite claiming to be jealous of that person and being hostile toward them.

No. His Japanese VA sounds like a greasy piece of trash that hides behind his guards and indulges in his desires for his own pleasure. His English one sounds like a malevolent generic "evil guy" who is just evil for the sake of the story - and the subtle details like how his guards all have strong voices but he has a cowardly one in Japanese are completely lost now that every shadow in the English version is voiced by the same person as Kamoshida.
You may like the sound of his voice, but it's indisputably a completely different interpretation of the character and less faithful as a whole to what the Japanese side were going for.

I might agree if this were a Nintendo title, but a big part of Atlus USA's "localizations" is that they stay very Japanese, hence the honorifics, and the fact everything is kept very Japanese.
They haven't toned down any cultural references in places like the class lessons, or in regards to almost every other piece of dialogue - so inconsistent changes like this are just silly, and even if you can justify it, the justification assumes the rest of the game is making these same changes to make the game more accessible for those in the west, when it's not doing that at all.
Ryuji asking the protagonist if he brought shoes isn't going to confuse anyone, regardless of whether they know shit about Japan - but questions about Japanese folklore and the country's history certainly will, and they're not being touched.

Ryuji's voice is very good. Anne's is alright. Everyone else is mediocre, and Futaba's and Haru's are downright terrible.
The antagonists are terribly casted and have really poor performances.
It's a pretty average dub, and with how good the Japanese VA for P5 actually ended up, it just looks even worse by comparison.
Wouldn't advise using it for anything other than a second playthrough.

Most of the performances are good, but there are a handful of cringey like Haru which bring the whole thing down, and some of the characters are miscast and completely miss the mark even if they don't offend the ears. A dub is only as good as the weakest link.

And then you have the mispronunciations.

In short, I'd say it's on par with P4's dub, but this time the P5 Japanese cast is amazing, way better than previous games, so the difference in quality is more stark.

I'm reluctant to play on hard simply because it boils down to getting oneshot by a normal attack from a boss. The Heavenly Punisher took off 70% of my health even while guarding, so I imagine it's a one-shot kill on hard unless you keep tarunda and rakukaja up, which is a pain in the ass.

It really doesn't. The Heavenly Punisher miniboss is a tutorial on guarding, and the fight is designed where you're meant guard > heal > guard > heal and attack in the few gaps that are given. It's like that on Easy and Normal too.
None of the other minibosses are like that. The game has a tendency to also target your other party members with insta-kill and high damage dealing attacks before it does your protagonist. The only thing you're really at risk with is multi-target attacks, since they can kill the MC, but frankly this doesn't happen very often at all and it really does only tend to kill you when your MC is low on health.

English Ryuji has his flaws honestly. They're more a fault of the voice director though I feel. There are a lot of scenes where his Japanese VA puts on a far more sensitive sounding voice and acts understanding, but his English VA keeps up the punk act and comes across as insensitive instead. An example would be during the scene following Kamoshida's confession when Anne brings up she wants to tell Shiho about it, and Ryuji sounds genuinely considerate in Japanese, but has the same voice he always has in English. There have been a few scenes like this, and frankly they don't help make Ryuji seem very likeable in English.
Still, this is a fault of the voice director more than the VA, but it hurts his performance nonetheless.
