I think Chloe was slightly more developed as a character. But the two of them are some of my absolute favorites.
It's gotten to the point where I look upon both of them as some kind of daughters that I wanted to help and see grow.

I wish Grande Dame and the sequel had less politics and religion in it.
The sequel idea is so cool. Chloe and Max's great-grandchild looking through their, finding Max's diary, and flashing into moments during it to see through Max's eyes. But the stuff I mentioned above, as well as the futuristic elements, just don't feel like Life is Strange.

In the first story technology progresses to a point where Max and Chloe can have a biological child with both of their DNA. Max carries it and they end up having a daughter named Rachel.
Rachel marries some Hindu guy and it continues the Price-Caulfield lineage to the point of William [Insert a bunch of last names here], their great-grandson.
Like I said both stories had really cool ideas for a basic plot but some really weird stuff started appearing. The future stuff, the Hindu stuff, and some of the dialogue.

For the first time in a long time, Chloe is happy and thinking about someone other than herself. Yeah, she was worried about Rachel, but Rachel also seemed to push her away when they got "too close".

It's probably Frank. I realize if you say the exact right thing he ends up being cool to you but the guys negatives far outweigh his positives. No amount of 'kind to dogs' will get around it.

The guy has clear anger issues and is one of the biggest forces that pushed Chloe into desperation that led her to Nathan and ultimately the bathroom. He sold date rape drugs. He had to know those weren't for recreational purposes too.

Honestly I was kind of tempted to leave him dead when Chloe shot him after he tried to choke Max. The only reason I left him alive (although still with a bullet in him) was because I didn't want Chloe to have to deal with the guilt of having killed him. Otherwise I'd leave him to rot.

Throughout the whole game, I found her very selfish and super annoying. She just treats everyone around her like shit. She was really selfish and rude to Max a lot of the time. She didn't respect her boundaries and tried to make her feel bad for answering a phone call from Kate. She was also pushy and selfish about Max's powers and would get mad at Max when she did something to get herself in trouble and Max didn't do something self-sacrificial to bail her out.

I couldn't hate Frank. He was definitely a scumbag but he had a huge shock and wakeup call when he learns what he was really helping towards.
As a dealer he didn't see how his drugs were used. He just thought he was giving students study to party with or that was helping them study (see Stella). He's horrified when he realizes he in a way helped kill Rachel and possibly others.
I like to think he was genuine in his claim that he wanted to turn his life around.
Plus, Chloe is extremely judgemental and trusts very few people. But she does stand up for Frank at first, they were friends to the point that she did say he wasn't SO bad.

The sad thing about Nathan shooting Chloe is one person doing something different would have averted it
-Sean not being a neglectful and abusive father means Nathan is more stable
-Jefferson and Nathan not teaming up means Nathan doesn't get the idea to drug Chloe
-Max contacting Chloe at some point may have made her slightly more happy and less reliant on Rachel
-Rachel being more honest with Chloe would make Chloe less paranoid when Rachel disappeared, she may be able to tell police something that leads to Jefferson and Nathan getting caught earlier
-Had Chloe trusted David she could have told him the truth about what Nathan did to her

Hello /lisg/ New person here. My first post. So I'll "introduce" myself.

So I finished the game a few days ago. I overall enjoyed it. The music was nice. The game brought back some good and bad memories from school. Some plot holes though. I liked that the game brought up some taboo subjects like depression, suicide help, losing a parent while you're young, bullying, etc.

This might not be a popular opinion around here, but I didn't like Chloe. Sure, she's a well written character, but I couldn't stand her. Too selfish and disrespectful. I didn't romance her. I saw Max and Chloe more like friends, but it was a kind of toxic friendship for Max.

The ending left me a bit sad. I chose to sacrifice Chloe. It was the right choice. The worst part about that wasn't that Chloe died, but she died without remembering the week she spent with Max. When she died, she was still unhappy and thought that Max had abandoned her.

I was also sad that I didn't get to continue playing as Max. She grew on me.

I didn't really think of it as similar to LiS, though it does revolve around a pair of women solving a deadly mystery with supernatural, time-jumping elements bringing them quickly close together. Obviously Twin Peaks was the Lynchian influence on LiS

I would cast doubt on the idea that the lesbian element "isn't really a significant part of the film" though. The movie is not part of the 'LGBT genre', but the recursive maddening love and jealousy between Betty/Diane and Camilla is key to the story.

I'll check out Muholland Drive and Bound. Lynch's dark fantasy atmosphere was a definite influence on LiS. Max's guilt for leaving Chloe was the main focus of the game. Their relationship drove the plot, but thematically the protagonists emotions took center stage. As evidenced by the original title of the game, the story, which was set out before Square Enix picked up the title, was an analogy for dealing with regret.

See that's the thing. MD is very much about how the world (specifically Tinseltown) affects people. LiS is about how people affect the world. There's never a question of "what if?" in MD, everything feels foreordained, as if the characters have no volition over their role in the story. As such, the characters just feel like extensions of the overall thematic goals. This is highlighted when Max and Chloe's relationship is contrast against Betty and Rita's. But I'll let you decide that for yourself.

I've heard they were considering putting a male protagonist in the story if they couldn't get a publisher to sign on to the "female lead thing". I'm glad they didn't because, lets be honest, no man would demonstrate the kind of stupidity needed to drive the plot.

Basically, all the trouble happens because Max is a dumb, emotional woman who keeps fucking with time. She's even dumb enough to change things five years in the past during a particularly strong 'female moment', and doesn't realise the magnitude of the change that will cause until she actually sees it.
